  1. I found out, that if you dont use the GameEx Database, you will get rid off the menues. If you "dont use" a database in the Emulator Setup-Section in the Setupwizard: http://www.gameex.com/Support/SetupWizardconfigurationguide.aspx#emulatorsetup Try this, i think it solve your problem, at least for me, it worked.
  2. Like I said... the 4890 would be the best choice for a CRT setup, that is a tube-tv or tube-monitor in a cab. So my tip goes for all Tube-Lovers (like me ) . I know that it can be difficult to setup a tube, but if you have it, you will never want to go back (to LED, LCD). Arcade is tube, everything else is just.... dont want to say that here I am a tube-nazi
  3. I think NullPointer pointed you accidently into the wrong section, its not the flat menus in the display section... its the Interface Mode in the display section of the setup wizard. This setting changes the user interface of GameEx. Gamelauncher mode completely changes the way the user interface works is controlled and displays. It puts GameEx into a simple game mode, with simpler menus, simpler navigation, simpler navigating through your available game lists. Many of the menus are disabled by turning on this setting, and only games lists are available. Navigation is much simpler with paging by pressing left or right, and button 1 and 2 navigate the available lists. Button 3 launches game. Recommended for simple cab setups, where you want to lock things down or its for young children. It also supports low resolutions such as 320X240. Simple mode disables the menus in gameex so there is just a list and no horizontal or vertical menu. Paging can be one by pressing left or right. In addition the Shift1 (default control) key acts as a home button in simple mode. Simple mode offers all GameEx features but with very simple navigation. Options: Normal (Default)GameLauncherSimplewith these settings you will get rid of nearly all menue stuff. If you choose "Game Launcher" or "Simple", then be aware that you may need further adjusting of your theme, especially the font size etc. The "Simple" setting didnt work for me at all, as i fast tested these options for you, but Game Launcher looked good for your needs. hope this helps you.
  4. If you want to use a CRT-setup like "real" arcade does i can only recommend AMD/ATI with GroovyMAME. You cannot get closer to the real thing. The most powerful card would be the Radeon HD 4890, specifically the Sapphire Toxic Edition. It is the last model which works with the hacked ATI-Calamity drivers. If you want to use some modern emulators or want some modern games in your setup, this is the way to go. If you are looking for a Weecade/Bartop Setup, go with Intel-Onboard 4000 > upwards, as these models are a serious replacement to a real graphic-card regarding shaders and graphics power. Look specificaly for low thermal production processor-models, as you need less cooling and you have less power consumption . There are powerful processors with a TP of 30Watts or less which is really great. Imagine a full setup with a power consumption of less than 100Watts... this is very nice and cheap, especially when you get your power bill, you will smile big All other setups are just pure own taste and like IMHO. I would go NVIDIA in that case, because of innovations like CUDA and Physics, where NVIDIA always was first as a inventor.
  5. Hi rabidpuppy, Sorry to tell you, that you can not get rid of the star-ratings, but on the other side, if you make the description field a little bit bigger, you will get descriptions based on mameinfo.dat / history.dat, assuming you have setup your mameinfo.dat correctly in the setup-wizard of GameEx. Judging by your screenshot posted, i would say you did not setup it properly, as there would be a description for Baseball 2020. Check if your paths are setup correctly and if you do any changes, dont forget to update your MAME list, to see your changes. Hope that helps and good luck
  6. Yiiipiieh... good job and thanks Circo and Tom... like christmas here .

    EMULATOR HELP

My commandline for epsx 1.8 is: ePSXe.exe -nogui -loadmemc0 "memcards\[rom]" you need to set it up in the Setup Wizard of GameEx, which is in your GameEx installation-folder. in the Advanced Emulator Setup section of the Setup Wizard you need to find the lines Launch Before: there you enter: "C:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Lite\DTLite.exe" -mount scsi, 0,"[rompath]\[romfile]" you maybe need to change the path to your DAEMON Tools Lite, my example here, is a typical Windows 7 64bit situation. The quotes are important, dont forget them then you need to find the lines Launch After in the Advanced Emulator Setup section of the Setup Wizard (its below Launch Before ) there you enter: "C:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Lite\DTLite.exe" -unmount scsi, 0 Further you need to setup a SCSI-Drive in DAEMON Tools, i remember that it is important somehow, as the images wont be recognized by ePSXe. Dont think it is a problem for you, as you say that you can start games if you use ePSXe in a standalone setup. This is how it works for me, however ePSXe still pops up with dialog window to choose the image, i want to start... if anyone has a better solution.... be my guest . good luck, hope it works... cheers u-man PS: my roms are uncompressed .img or .bin and .cue files. I would like to use .rar or even better .7zip files, as they are much smaller in size, but ePSXe seems not to understand them or not to be able to handle them. the good side off course, games are starting much faster, but again, if anyone knows how to handle it better... be my guest .
  8. for the easy part: Coleco and Vectrex for the hard part: SNES two thumbs up for this
  9. just forget you, i am sorry.... off course also very nice from you Circo.... good job, please cooperate more... i very welcome this.
  10. I love you Tom ... great news, great update. GameEx becoming more and more awesome. In a League of Legends Style: PENTAKILL!!
  11. I can recommend my own thread here: http://www.gameex.info/forums/topic/13424-gameex-mame-roms-extension-list-update/ for even more games, that are in MameUIFX (or any other MAME) but not in GameEx (due to the definition of "imperfect") .... there are some nice Games in there, worth a try and easy to do.
  12. your link didnt work for me. if you have it, share it
  13. Yesterday I have fiddling around with Retroarch and what didnt worked for Higan, works for Retroarch . I must say, that this is a real, cool Program. many thanks and it was not so hard to setup.
  14. Yeah man, these are the best shaders available at the moment. If anyone else is interested, check also this thread: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=45026&start=420 and in the same thread, look at the INI Creator v0.3 for MAME.... for all the fiddlers outthere: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=45026&start=330 with the INI Creator you can create INDIVIDUAL HLSL MAME presets per game. the inventor NUeda, thinks about porting this to Retroarch . Those presets look really fantastic on a LCD.
  15. Nope... I tried it, Higan starts but doesnt load a rom... plus even if it would work, you have all the games with the same name . exactly.... we retro-nerds lives with those quirks ages, centurys people get used to this, so even if you (programmer) think its better to organize things in this or that way, it will cause only more problems. it will get worse and not better. so maybe even if this concept is good, there will still be a missing environment to use that full potential. the most painfull thing is the import one-by-one. Imagine a full SNES collection... you will need hours, maybe days. but thank you all for this quite usefull tips and advices .
  16. thx nullPointer, I didnt know this, latest version of BSNES was 0.91 and i will try that and see what happen. Honestly I cant see why someone who have done such a good Emulator, start with a horrible Rom-Management and include this into the Emulator . This doesnt make any sense to me, even if its meant in a good way. This single-rom import a mess.... duplicating roms a mess.... No usefull meaning in a Front-End etc. etc. Rick1974.. I have heard of Retroarch, but in a total different content... HLSL. I downloaded it but I didnt try it yet. Sounds very promising, as I liked the HLSL features too (up to 8 Shaders to generate a great Retro-Look and you can use it with MAME.... somehow ). I will look further into it.
  17. I tried this, but it doesnt work. Cant find the commands Higan understands. As good as this Emulator is, the Rom-management is a nightmare, especially for Front-Ends. Higan handles Roms in a special way. You need to import your Rom (one-by-one ) and then it creates his own rom in a folder named like the game, but the rom itself is always "program.rom". So in GameEx you will have tons of games called just "program". If you want to start this "program", it opens Higan but the cardridge is not loaded. I guess it dont understand it that way . I will try to find commands Higan understands and if I cant, my only option is to start it by hand .
  18. Hello Community, After playing all my loved SNES titles with the SNES9x-Emulator, I found out that there are some really annoying things with this Emulator. My setup is strong enough to handle this Emu . Win7 64bit, 8-32GB RAM, at least new i3-processors, 4th generation. First one is the mouse cursor, which randomly appears in Fullscreen-Mode, while I am playing. This destroys the illusion of playing the real thing and can disturb the gameplay as well. Second one is the accuracy of this Emulator. It randomly slows down, i can hear it in the music i.e. . So there is no fluent play-experience. If you play a title like Super Mario World, you will die quite often in situations, where i wouldnt die, if i would play on a real SNES or if it would be more accurate. First I thought, that it has to do with 50 / 60Hz Titles, which can be a problem, but it happened with 60Hz Titles too. So I decided to use Higan, better known as BSNES, because it claims to be 100% accurate. At least my two problems are gone and I can say it is much more easier to play i.e. Super Mario World. My Girlfriend as a test-person, has so much more fun to play it . I can only recommend this Emulator, if you have at least a CoreDuo Processor. Its really a difference in playing games. Now I want to setup this Emulator in GameEx and would like to have a working commandline. Anyone has one? If its even possible, it would be very nice to have one, that loads a savestate on startup, and save one on exit, like MAME does. Thanks in Advance, u-man
  19. I go Windoofs 7 64bit. Only thing i needed XP was GroovyMAME in my cab. As I have Beta-Drivers for Win7 from Calamity himself , i see absolutely no need for XP any more. Windoofs 8 is dumb as hell, like Vista was. Dont like it at all, especially this tablet-shit. They should bring out just a OS only for this. This Hybrid-Thingy is a pain in the a**. Dont see a single thing in Win8, which is usefull or better than in Win7, but just my IMHO.
  20. nullPointer is right.... I forgot the mapfile . and here is the Advanced Emulator Section, with the file which needs to be activated. It is because ParaJVE is Java based. JVE stands for JavaVectrexEmulator. So if you start the Emulator, GameEx needs to wait for a process called "Javaw". If the Emulator ends prior this process it wont start properly again . @Adultery: Its sad, that you will miss this great Emulator, but maybe you dont like Vectrex at all, so its ok to go with MESS . I own a real Vectrex and it is the only Console i kept, all others went to sale . It is the unique Vector-Monitor, that make me do this. I even want to buy a second one, to make a awesome mod like this: http://www.e-basteln.de/asteroids/asteroids_intro.html This is a good example, as Asteroids is a Game which looks lame on original MAME. Hack even AAE looks not as good as the Original. Vector based games are really something that needs more efford to look good on emulated systems. My aim in emulation, is to be close to the original as possible and MESS really falls out in this category in my own opinion. Yes it has many systems emulated, but many of them in a really poor way (i.e. Vectrex, SNES etc.). But thats a matter of taste. If you give ParaJVE a chance and compare, you will clearly see what i mean .
  21. for Vectrex, i would not going the Mess.route anyway. Its a crap emulation. Go ParaJVE instead, best Vectrex emulator on planet. Believe me, it is much, much better than MESS. Download here: http://www.vectrex.fr/ParaJVE/ Command-Line in GameEx-Setup-Wizard: ParaJVE.exe -Game=[ROM] -Fullscreen=TRUE -Menu=OFF -NoSplash use attached ParaJVE.ini put it in GameEx/CONFIG/EMULATORS In the Setup-Wizard, choose the ParaJVE.ini in the Advanced Config Tab. Thats all, good luck and have fun ParaJVE.ini
  22. for thermal paste i use the following : http://www.coollaboratory.com/de/produkte/liquid-ultra/ believe me, this is the best you can get. the only downside it have is, you can NOT use coolers with a aluminium base. but you will be rewarded with a extra -3 to -5 celsius , comparing to ANY other thermalpaste and i tried a lot . this is liquid metal, if you put this on, it looks like soldering tin when it melts . since i discovered this paste, i dont use any other paste anymore.... this is the real shit.

no there is no "offset" support for clones. you can have clones showed or not, but not with offset like mameui. who needs them anyway . GameEx has the nice feature "show no clones, unless better", which means i only see a clone if it is better or better working than the original.
  24. OMG.... well i am speechless, proud and surprised. Thank you all, for the nice compliments. This community is really awesome. At this point, i have to say that there are 4 persons, which i want to mention especially: 1. off course Tom and Headkaze, for bringing us this great Frontend and/or great tools for our hobby. 2. Draco 1962 for teaching me the right manners and behaviour , always having a good joke and sharing his knowledge with us. 3. Nullpointer for his approach to new people in the forum. I learned a lot of him and I have never seen a bad attitude. The solutions he brings in, are exceptional and right to the point. Accurate would be a far better name for him. It showed me why this forum is so awesome. I am glad to be here... elite or not I know that my comments sometimes sound harsh, but they never meant to be hurting. All the good people here, is what makes GameEx my first choice. I have seen a lot of other forums, but with no doubt I can say that this forum is outstanding in many ways. As the future is bringing us even more exciting stuff I am curious what will come next. Keep it strong, keep it vital.... as you guys rocks.
  25. In my eyes, everything what is done for a beginner, is a good thing .
