  1. You may need to confirm via your PC display setup what the minimum range is for the graphics card. Most newer support a minimum of 800x600. Try that resolution and see if the problem resolves along with reinstalling D3D.
  2. jpg and png are well supported. You may need to go into the Advanced Configuration for your emulators and "browse" to the logo file in question. You may want to post a copy of your gameex.ini file (zip it then upload to your reply) so that we can review your setup.

    VirtualBox

Where? As an Emulator or as an External Application? Where is the Advanced Config file to VirtualBox located? Where was it added in GameEx? Not trying to bust your chops (well, actually I am! LOL!) but if you wouldn't mind maybe providing more step-by-step detail for future reference that all interested can use should they decide to use this program. Not everyone is experienced and assume your audience is all n00bs when you provide instruction will help to avoid quite as many questions later! I think that using a virtualized environment, while not always the best for running all games, is a great way to provide protection to your system. Provided you make regular backups of your virtual environment, many of the VM products allow for restoring from backups (this varies by product with ease and process). Great if you want to add an additional layer to surfing the web (if virtualized session is protected by anitvirus and antimalware software) but should become compromised. You can often kill it, restore from back-up, and be able to go once again as if nothing happened! Thanks!

Welcome to the GameEx forums! As noted, we cannot lend our expertise to your request as we support GameEx Frontend and HTPC software. You can find some MAME Setup info here on the Hyperspin site. As noted, you would be best served by registering for the Hyperspin forums if you do not have any luck following the instructions at the link provided. Good luck!
  5. Some more suggestions for themes (most based on video games, movies or TV - where I spent most of my youth and a great part of my adulthood or second childhood according to my wife). The list is mainly those that included some sort of computer interfaces/displays that could be creatively adapted for theme use. A short list: Space 1999, Star Trek, Star Wars, The Last Starfighter, Dune, Tron (Original and Legacy), Wing Commander, Enemy Mine, War Games, Close Encounters, Iron Man, Transformers, Batman, Apollo 13.
  6. Is there any way to get past the 10 attachment limit?

    VirtualBox

OK so you are running it as an HTPC - have you considered linking directly from within MCE instead of GameEx? That might not be preferable but, depending on how you are trying to launch it from within GameEx, it may be the better alternative if we can't figure out a way for you to get it running launching through GameEx (and I think it is doable!).

    VirtualBox

Have you tried running it as a an external app invoking the exe file directly instead of through a link file?

    VirtualBox

Not sure about getting this to run through GameEx so wouldn't be the one to ask but my guess is that it would have to run as an external application and not as an emulator VirtualBox is Oracle's (formerly Sun) take on full OS virtualization, unlike DosBox which virtualizes a DOS environment. It is akin to Microrsoft's Virtual PC 2007 and VMWare products. To run anything in these requires a registered license of the Windows or other commercial OS that you are running as a virtualized system generally saved in an ISO format . Most Linux variants are free. Virtualised environments are fun to play with and, sometimes, you can get good results with some of the older legacy programs and games, however, there are limitations due to the GPUs, Sound cards and CPUs being simulated and really take having a pretty good knowledge of the OS you are attempting to run as a VM (Virtual Machine) to overcome these limitations.
  10. Actually found the system pic and logo on Wikipedia.
  11. Only 30? There are over 300! Maybe I overestimated the need... sigh. You're welcome!
  12. Thanks for the kudos! Here is your HTPC and the SG-1000. I appreciate the feedback and if you have any more logos and systems images you can provide for me that were not included already in the Logo Packs, please post them here! My latest theme is getting closer to completion and, in addition to the Logo Packs provided separately, additions will be included in the Logos for the theme,.
  13. Several questions for you: 1 - What type GPU and Monitor do you have? 2 - Have you tried installing anew the latest version of DirectX that your system will handle? 3 - What is the range of color and resolution that your GPU and Monitor are able to handle? Appears that you may either be exceeding the supported resolution limits and/ or have a bad D3D install.
  14. As far as logos go, I am with ya. I recently released some new logo packs and am finding where there are a few that I missed or need to correct, etc.. on and on. I guess determining when to share is a matter of deciding a cutoff point, zipping it up, and uploading to the site. For me that is usually when I get bored with a theme or have a new idea put a bug up my butt to create something. No theme is going to be 100% complete I guess. I have started working with .xcf files (GIMPs version of the .psd) when I finalize a change graphic to place within a foreground or background image. Other than the basic screens that are needed by GameEx "right out of the box" for a first time install, that is about where I would say it is finished for sharing.

to start, try plugging the HDMI cable into a different port on the TV. If still no sound, try a different HDMI cable.
  16. I had a similar error when starting a new theme as Theme Editor requires that you use another theme to "seed" for a new one. I would suggest going into the gameex\data directory and delete all files with cache in the name. You may also want to start with a fresh copy of the original theme to ensure that it is working correctly for you. You will probably want to avoid using Theme Editor to copy images into as much as possible and, instead, use an image editor to open the file, make any changes and Save As to the theme's directory to whatever file name you need it to be. GameEx will pickup the new file and display it if there is a proper path to is in the emulator's configuration section within the Advanced Configuration.
  17. When I first started, I just loaded a few themes in Theme Editor to get a good feel for the layouts. I later found that setting up the layouts in an image editor helped me to speed my creations immensely and Theme Editor to tweak where the size and location of where the images will appear in the finished theme. Using psd files (or xcf if using Gimp) on this latest theme I have started to combine the elements in one package to created the custom screens makes things even faster to compile. I think that the interest and the need exists. I have other theme ideas that I have considered in the past and I am willing to throw out if someone wanted to take off with them and run! ehuonder already flew with one I had entertained with his WOPR (War Games) theme (and, from the screenshots I saw he far surpassed what I had toyed with in my mind). Other themes could include the arcade machine from The Last Starfighter, Tron (Tom has a fantastic Tron theme - other takes I am sure would be welcomed!) and Tron Legacy, Weird Science.
  18. Thanks, Ben! Will give this one a go!
  19. The one thing I wish we could see more themes developed and submitted but the users of this community. I know some probably prefer to keep them to themselves due to the time invested to tweak them, but I think that the more themes we have available for share with the user community, the easier it is for those new to GameEx and Arcade Emulation in general. I appreciate the functionality of GameEx immensely! I think that with more themes available to the new users that chance upon us, we have a better opportunity to sell the product on the eye-candy aspects as well. What I would like to do is start by throwing down my next theme in development (Enter the Dragon) and challenge the user community to a contest. Perhaps Tom, Circo, and a few of the other admins or mods wouldn't mind sitting in as our panel of judges. They could possibly determine several categories for an initial "semi-final competition" and the winners of these categories move on to the finals to determine the top 3 themes of 2011. This will give everyone plenty of time to brush up if it has been a while or to pick up the programs and skills to show their creative flair! Give your thoughts on this. I think that this can be done fairly and I know that the talent is out there!
  20. That is EFFEN sweet, ehuonder! Great job on the theme as well from what I can see of it!
  21. But does it play the same?
  22. Must be one helluva prenup she has with you! Alimony in advance!
  23. Glad that worked! OK for us to mark as resolved for you?
  24. I have the same issue. Just the way it is so, unless working on a large image, usually size & drag my window where I want it or hit the window/fullscreen toggle as needed.
  25. Alpha - you may want to delete the cace files and let it rebuild the list. Give that a try. I beleive that initiailly the stations rebuild on a thread. You should be able to see quite a few stations under each genre. I have tested on my system and had no problems, same as fReqEnCy.
