  1. Eventually I will ask the same question again - you know this, right?
  2. Since I don't use a CP (yet!) not sure if I can help you with remapping, but I am sure there has to be some way to map a control to act as a "page up - page down."
  3. There are some basic tutorials on the link Dan provided along with FAQs (always a good place to start when looking at new software ). As you tinker, there are some links you may wish to explore on my sig thanks to a few of our gurus that will get ya going in no time. You can use the Advanced Configuration (part of your GameEx install) to point to your various folders for snaps, marquees, ROMs, etc. Play around and get stuck, let us know what is going on and be prepared for one of the best supported front-ends and application forums you will ever encounter!
  4. Please post a copy of your log file (under \gameex\log ) and copy your gameex.ini file into a notepad and save as a text file and attach it in reply to this message. Since this is the first we have heard of this we need these files to diagnose your issue. If you need further assistance, click on the Tempest link in my sig. Thanks!
  5. How's that cab coming along - pics and video please!

    Logos

I understand as I have in my logo pack many that I will probably never use but others may. One thing to consider is if you are creating a custom .psd (for Phot Shop) or .xcf (for GIMP) file if you have a unique button style that accompanies your logos. That way, the users can create more as they need them.
  7. I thought I would share this with everyone. It is an online utility called the Atari 2600 Label Maker. I created a new avatar that resembles the Atari 2600 cartridge labels. This could also be used for an Atari 2600-based theme where the logo and misc files are created to look like the Atari 2600 Carts! I promised my wife I would take a break from creating new themes, but I am a creative sod and this is so damned tempting... Ninja Theme Making Mode: ON
  8. Glad to be of help - I do that sometimes!
  9. Be sure to share your pics of your cab! You don't have to wait until you are finished and sometimes it is good to see a project in the works from start to finish. We have a section under the Pinned Topics for Cabinets running GameEx (HTPCs setups as well). When you post, be sure to give us a run-down of what's inside (OS, PC build, Monitor, etc.) as this is very helpful for those considering building a cab but might not know exactly where to start.
  10. Shut down GameEx and try re-running the WeatherSelect.exe file in the root GameEx directory. It will then update your GameEx.ini file (last entry I believe). Then boot GameEx again and let us know if it updates to the correct temp..

    Logos

You are doing well, my friend. I would not try building Rome in a single day, however. For most of what is on your list you will have to "learn" the logo you seek, then get a bit creative with either Photo Shop or GIMP to manipulate pieces into a reconstruction of the original logo as I and many others have had to do (hence why, in many cases, some opt to go for the system photos instead of the actual logo). Like you, I much prefer the original logos as they are almost as much a part of the history of the system as the systems themselves and if you end up reading some of the descriptions of the logos and their evolution for each, you may find a deeper appreciation of the system. I have to ask one question: Do you intend to emulate them all? To avoid being overwhelmed and stressed, you may want to start with those you are already emulating and intend to in the very near future.
  12. One thing that may hang some people up with using the GameExtender is that you have to set it to the IP address of whatever is acting as the server within the GameExtender settings. For testing on your cab or htpc, desktop or laptop system, or for displaying to another monitor, you set the IP address to 127.0.0.1 . This is also known as the local host address or home (there's no place like it from what I hear! ). If you want to be able to access it from remote, then you need to set it up to an IP address that is accessible via the web. Now this is where it can be a bit dicey and I will defer to some of the more experienced gurus in the forum to fill in as what i have to say now is high-level at best. If you plug in the PC's IP address on your internal network you will likely still be stuck in the city not far from home as most internal IP addresses hide being the firewall NAT (kinda like when searching Google Maps for a city without a specific internal address, the NAT is like the city name specific to the network and usually has an external or "public" access point. Once inside, information is then routed to and from the internal IP for the PC. So you will need to be able to get past this to be able to view GameExtender goodness outside of your local network. OK, this is where the more experienced gurus come in and torch my city analogy to the ground or add to it from where I left off.
  13. That is great! I much enjoy working with the Custom Menus (once you get the hang of them). Of course, it makes my themes a bit larger as I have to create custom screens and logos for each, but worth it in the long run. What theme are you using for your cab or did you create your own?
  14. No problem - did you re-enable custom menus or just gonna give a rest for a bit?

    Logos

Have you tried some of the other themes? Some are more logo heavy than others. I make most of my own and found them through themes, the logo packs, online, etc.

    Logos

You can find quite a few at GameEx.com as well as Retrobytes Portal and thegameconsole.com . Enthusiasts sites for specific systems are also a great place to start (i.e., AtariAge for all things Atari - consoles, handheld, and pc systems).
  17. Awesome addition, Tom! I look forward to trying this out tomorrow!
  18. I had a similar problem a while back and was able to clear it by deleting all files with cache in the file name or extension (in the Data directory), then rebooting GameEx. Under normal conditions, it will default to the last view you select.
  19. Actually, that may be an issue within the Change View options when you have GameEx running. Assign a logo in the logo field of the Custom Menu, then exit. Boot GameEx and then click on Change View in the menu bar at the bottom of the screen. You may need to cycle through a few settings but it should display the logo you selected instead of as the background.
  20. I forgot to ask also for a copy of your CustomMenu.ini file as well. .sorry about that!
  21. Do you have Show Start Page First set to Yes and Disable MAME set to No in Advanced Configuration under Enable/Disable Features? You may want to copy your gameex.ini file into notepad, save it as a text file, and upload it to the thread (the forum software will not allow you to upload an executable or ini file directly).
  22. You will want to go through the Advanced configuration first and look at Enable/Disable features to disable some of what you do not want to appear first. There are also options to Enable Yes/No in some of the main section headers there as well for News, etc. Try these first before delving into Custom Menus. Once you have disabled ALL the features you do not want displayed in GameEx but still see some items that you would like to remove from view or rearrange their order, THAT is where the Custom Menus program comes in. You will find it in the Configuration folder for GameEx when accessing from your Windows Start or you can find it in the Gameex folder wherever you have GameEx installed on your hard drive. There are not many how-to's so you will need to tinker about via trial & error but that is the place to start after you have done what you can in the Advanced Configuration first. You may want to look at the topic I started here and also those of others in the forum via search for Custom Menus.
  23. What OS are you using? You may want to upgrade your version of MAME to the latest. The current version is 0.141U2.
  24. I have tested the links and get #404 Page not Found errors with the exception of the MAWS links (went directly to the links from Stu's post). I also show the same errors within the news reader.
  25. Dan_Dan - thanks for sharing! I have just installed it myself. For anyone else that does, you can toggle toolbars on & off using F11 key.
