  1. The initial issue with MESS was resolved. In addition to battling with the GameEx cache for control of my images, there were some minor path issues that needed to be resolved within MESS (when you move something, be sure to map to the new location... sigh). The sound issue was continued under another thread. This cropped up after upgrade, but turned out to just be coincidental (I had a bad wav file. It would play in WMP and WinAmp, but not in GameEx. After I determined the suspect wav, I renamed it, replaced it with another of the same name, then loaded GameEx - issue resolved!
  2. I changed a recent post to show [THEMES] in the title regarding a graphic I uploaded for Screen Resolutions and Aspect Ratio classes. I could see us using other headings such as [EMUS] for broad emulator threads, [MAME], [MESS], [DAPHNE], etc. for specific emus, [ATARI 8-BIT], [N64], [AMIGA], [GAMECUBE], [ATARI 2600] for specific systems. Having been a Sysop of a very active BBS a number of years ago, I know the difficulty of trying to setup forums for specific conversations or topics and "convincing" users to stick to them. So you just use best judgment, move things if/as you can to the correct area, kill the thread if it goes way off topic or becomes a flame fest, etc. when gentle nudging doesn't work. For the most part, this community is pretty good about policing itself and embracing change! .:.EDIT - I went through and edited my thread titles. For the most part, I try to "color within the lines" but what s life without a little non-conformity!
  3. Is it possbile to "merge" some of the 269 threads into others? We have quite a few referencing emulators, wrappers, registration, themes, new GameEx version releases, etc. And, if possible, would doing so break the links making reference to threads or replies within or could the links be redirected to the new location?
  4. I have started a thread regarding Working with Custom Menus. I am not aware of any tutorials hence the thread. I have posted a few pics that may help you to get started and will be glad to answer what I can to get you started. I think it would be best to install fresh those emulators that require making updates to your system registry to function. I would start one at a time, get it working, then on to the next. You should be able to copy your directories for your ROMS, Snaps, etc. to the same location on the new PC as the old. So long as you have your original registration you can install GameEx run it to register your copy on the new PC. I think it would be best to install fresh those emulators that require making updates to your system registry to function.
  5. chrisqc - thanks for letting me attempt to connect. Hopefully I will figure out why it isn't allowing me to do so.
  6. Anyone have any ideas why I am not able to connect to anyone? It is obvious I am not the sharpest when it comes to network issues. I have gone so far as to map the ports within the firewalls, setup rules within Norton Security Suite, disable all firewalls, disable Norton altogether, place my PC naked in DMZ, all to no avail.
  7. I actually understood what it is, have it installed and configured (can't get it to connect to someone yet...). What is confusing is what the author is trying to say about compatibility between 32 bit and 64 bit (32 bit and 62 bit what?) on the CSmame site when on another blog post he indicates being able to play cross-platform between 32 bit windows and 64 bit linux.
  8. YAY! Congrats! Can't wait to see what touches he will add... I am sure that once he reads this message he wi[CENSORED] my posts and [CENSORED] [CENSORED][CENSORED] [CENSORED][CENSORED]
  9. I looked through the blog at the 0.2 release in August. He notes that "Cross platform and architecture support: I was able to play a game between a 32 bit windows machine and a 64 bit linux machine with no problems." So not so sure he is referring to networking. No, only 32bit Windows. I reverted to MAMUI32 from 64 just in case. Still pretty much the same results. Have mapped port forwarding for 5805 to my PC and entered appropriate rules in software firewall. Tried playing Gigawing with Chrisqc again... no video issues this time. appeard about to connect and game loaded, but it was just me playing. Throwing in the towel for the day on this issue..
  10. What is your interpretation of "NOTE: Currently the 32-bit and 64-bit versions are not compatible with each other." Is he referring to the 32 servermame and 64 bit MAME versions?
  11. I changed the Advanced Mame from Yes to No. This allowed me to play the game solo. Next, Chrisqc and I attempted to play Giga Wing. I received the SAM prompt and the game began to load (saw the CP), then screen went black for a few minutes and then back to GameEx NetPlay menu... sigh.
  12. I received a play request and heard the audible prompt, but as the game began to load I encountered a video error. Here is a copy of my Log... Also - a screen capture from MAME
  13. Awesome! I take it you are testing a soon-to-be new release?
  14. If/When Tom adds an audible alert feature for netplay, I am ready with my Alert (Those of you whom may have seen the movie War Games may appreciate this most). playagame_wg.wav
  15. In order for port forwarding or port triggering to work, the PC must have a static IP to assign the port behind the NAT. URL will not work as the application is designed currently.
  16. What kind of router are you using? Many of the newer routers will allow for assigning of static IPs within the router's domain. Usually just requires inputting the network adapter MAC and then associating it with the IP.
  17. Unless I have it mapped to my PC's IP incorrectly (which it isn't to the best of my knowledge). I have gone back though and mapped a port range (5800-5850) for local and remote. Just need to test again...
  18. Does anyone from the states have Comcast? I tried disabling my Norton Firewall, made sure that Windows Firewall was disabled and router firewall is disabled. Some online tests show that I have 5805 open, others say Listening/Filtered. Regardless can't get past the connect phase... sigh.
  19. Should it be 5805 or 5085? I have opened both now
  20. OK added exception to UDP port 5805 to Norton 360 - this may have been culprit, just need to test now...
  21. Tom and Stu - I tried connecting to both of you but no luck. Game would load after accepting netplay request but still just me playing. I have my router ports wide-open and even disabled firewall but no luck.
  22. Tom - will net play also be enabled for MESS?
  23. Actually, there are quite a few "homebrewers" for the older systems, wiriting for the 2600, 5200, etc. There are times I wish that I still had my old reliable Atari 800XL. It was limted but it was lots of fun.
  24. Not sure if there is much interest in the Atari 8-bit systems, but it is somewhat wanting for updates according to the first page. Many of the titles released for the 5200 and 7800 also apply to them (The 5200 was actually the same chipset and code as was there for the 400/800 systems and rehashed yet again for the XL/XE systems. I once ran an Atari 8-bit BBS and, while I have forgotten much of what I learned, I am still pretty familiar with many of the more popular titles. I would be willing to give it a go taking over work on it if OK with you or Ben. Just let me know!
