  1. Not sure but why reinvent the wheel when you could possibly adapt a solution already available for your needs? I found this site doing my usual "Googling" about. While this is primarily for adding front access to the usual ports via an empty drive bay, it could probably be easily adapted to your needs without having to hack and solder your existing connections.
  2. My first foray into a cabinet resolution theme - Joust!
  3. Seriously.. *sigh* And people ask why I don't go out much... it is because of people like that. Isn't it kinda like saying "If I cut you, so long as it heals, I haven't committed assault?"
  4. I would go with the War Room with the color vector outline graphics to be in keeping with the War Room displays.
  5. Ok, Grasshopper... do you want to know how to grab the pebble from the Master's hand? Find the case you are looking for along with the mobo, CPU, ram, HDD, GPU you are looking for. If you are like me, you probably have an extra DVD-RW laying about. Get that built! "Honey, it looks like this is gonna work out great, but would be really great if we could play Blue Ray disks on it..." "I found some really sweet software on the web, but it doesn't quite work as I expected or need it to..." Next, add the blue ray burner, and software (likely the items putting you over budget)! Now let any guy on this forum tell me that they have never, ever done this before and I will call them either a liar or an ugly virgin!
  6. Well just shoot my plans to Hell. Thanks, Buddy! LOL!
  7. No disagreement from me there. I have a P4 that is currently acting as a file server using Server 2003. It will likely become a cab PC one day as I plan to build a dedicated HTPC to handle the more recent emulations as well as audio and video streaming chores. I will probably dedicate the P4 to run MAME, Daphne, first and second gen consoles/handhelds, and Pinball on it when that day comes with XP Pro as the OS of choice for it.
  8. What is the preferred email address and format for this type of issue? This may be a good addendum to the Lost Key Policy thread in the Pinned Topics forum.
  9. Glad you got things resolved with both!
  10. Since most classic "military" displays tend towards monochromatic displays (usually green screen - green phosphor text on black background for the youngsters) I find myself drawn to the outline image, however, I also like 3 - soft scan lines as this is what I envision more modern systems using. Since WOPR was during the early 80's when monochrome phosphor screens were all the rage, I think I would prefer 1 to be in keeping with the genre. Is it possible to perform a soft scan line effect on the line drawing? It appears to have one already but would be curious to see how it would appear.
  11. Transfer speeds are much improved with "Internet over powerline," however, you do encounter some speed degradation the further removed you are from the base outlet (going to the router). Again, just need to consider what the end PC will be used for. If the PC is primarily used for web surfing, checking email, occasional vid streaming, then the lower data speeds are OK. If you are using for HTPC, streaming audio/video, then wired is great, esp if everything is gigabit. I am currently using IoP with my Xbox 360 and it works fabulously. Will probably by some more modules in the future for the web-connected devices such as the BD player and widescreen in the living room in combination with a small switch to share the same connection.
  12. Nice deal! I think if the most they do is surf the web, check email, and watch the occasional YouTube vid, the P4 oughta be plenty for them! BTW, are you going for Windows 7 X64 on the cab or sticking with XP? Would be a shame to waist the extra processing pipeline that Win 7 X64 will avail to ya! Besides, XP will not recognize 8 GB of RAM (4 max for x386 version).
  13. Best thing is to send Tom a PM and he will respond pretty quickly to your request. Be sure to provide your email address that you used for your original paid registration.
  14. Ian - Me thinks you are a few days late and a few pints slow!
  15. Here are a few logos that didn't make the Space Invaders theme - enjoy!
  16. A little detail regarding your video card might help as well. Copies of your log file (immediately following the crash) might be helpful. I had a similar issue with another program and it turned out to be a bad GPU (video card). Have heard of similar issues with a bad driver as well.
  17. Thanks! @ehuonder - still waiting on that WOPR! @Starbuck - Adultery speaks the truth on this. The only way I can think of possibly doing anything like what you would like would require setting up several instances of MAME setup as a separate emulator with the ROMs for each game you want to assign a separate screen. Not hardly what I would endeavor to do for the sake of a few custom screens.
  18. It is possible that it is trying to access a ROM that is not playable. I have mine set to display games from my Favorites only and have no issue.
  19. Hey Tom - I was referring to your response in this thread to Khara: That is the reason I asked as I thought there might be some differentiation between the two install methods I was not aware of.
  20. +1 for this request as well as adding Scroller, Menu and any other text items that currently overlay the foreground layer. It would be nice if Theme Editor and GameEx could work together to allow for a true 3-tiered layer of all display elements so that text, lists, and vids could be selected to run between foreground and background layers.
  21. I think the example you provided looks awesome! Will the videos just play once or loop in the final product? From a user perspective, my only concern is the amount of system resources it takes to run the vids as logos. It should not be much of an issue for modern systems but the older ones might be a little slow. But that is what disclaimers are for, correct? I can definitely see using them with one of my theme projects - would love to give you some competition on creating them but not sure I would know where to start or afford the software at this point!
  22. Theme Title: Space Invaders Theme Category: HTPC Theme Version: V4 Theme Resolution: 1680 x 1050 Theme Description: Theme based upon Bally Williams Space Invader bezel and elements and original game sounds. Theme Features: Large collection of original logos with system images. Scroller, Date, and Time features enabled. Color Key disabled to take advantage of "true black" and transparencies. Weather, Pop-up, and Select 1 & 2 disabled to avoid clutter and keep arcade machine "feel.". Date Submitted: 07/14/2011 Download URL: http://www.gameex.co...%20Invaders.zip Download Size: 94 MB Additional Notes: Special thanks to Adultery for providing the system sound files and to various members for providing encouragement and feedback! Also thanks to Celly for providing me with a copy of the theme in action!
  23. Tom - will the unicode support changes be available in an update or does it require download of the full version and install? Thanks!
  24. New Theme - Space Invaders based upon the Bally/Williams bezel and the first coin-op arcade game I ever played! Special thanks to Adultery for converting the original sounds for the theme, his friendship, encouragement, and constructive criticisms! Thanks to the other forum members that provided their feedback along the way and to Tom and Headkaze for their continued improvements on the best FE ever!
  25. That would be as you say.... awesomesauce!
