  1. We were at the beach Everybody had matching towels Somebody went under a dock And there they saw a rock It wasn't a rock It was a rock lobster
  2. Mike - will be glad to address your issues, however, I don't think you will find an author that does more "out of the box" testing of his programs than the one for GameEx. I had tinkered with this program and a few others including "kicking the tires" on the respective forums for almost a year before making the leap. Trust me, you will not find better than Tom when it comes to supporting and testing this frontend, nor will you find a better forum for support. In addition to the author, myself and a few others have multiple machines from which we attempt to recreate the issues the forum members run into in our best effort to communicate a resolution or workaround. Yours is defintiely outside of the norm for an initial install. My guess from what I am seeing is that the issue is not with GameEx. While it should work with XP Media Center Edition, there is something else going on here that I can't quite put my fingers on just yet. I would recommend that you install it on another PC (say, one running XP Home or Pro) to see if you run into the same results. I have a laptop with XP Home installed and just ran a new installation (GameEx has never been installed on this machine and it is a single core Intel P4 processor with only 512MB RAM. Absolutely no probelms - hits the nag, waits for a few (normal) then right into the program from there. I understand if you haven't the time to mess with what I am suggesting. My guess is that you will possibly run into issues with whatever program you choose, if not on install, further along, until you make the time to resolve whatever is causing this issue. Regards, Draco
  3. I have not used the Karaoke app with GameEx so cannot speak to it entirely. I would think that there may be some settings you will need to adjust with your sound card as well. By default, Windows tends to behave as the master to all controls and will slide them all unless you intervene. You may find yourself limited by your PC/Windows if you are using onboard (on the motherboard) sound vs. an add-on soundcard (Creative, etc.).
  4. You can read about CLRMame Pro here . The introduction (captioned below) pretty much says it all: "CLRMame Pro is one of the most useful utilities available to the emulation scene. I started using it about November 2000 and now I swear by it. Once I had it sorted I saved myself about 300MB of hard disk space and was completely surprised just how mucked up my rom files were. For avid emulation fans it's one of those "day to day" programs that you always use. CLRMame is a set of tools that manages your rom filles. Nearly all emulators use rom files to store their games. What CLRMame does is to check all of the individual rom files against a data file to make sure that they have the right information in them. Data files are available for nearly all arcade emulators and also some console games too. A word of warning though, because this program moves, adds, deletes and renames files it is best to have a backup of any files that you check because the author of CLRMame and myself take no responsibility for any lost files." You can download CLRMame Pro and the referenced DAT files here. I heartily recommend it's use and reading thoroughly through the documentation and backing-up your files first!
  5. Yeah GTB, it is a little compicated. But just to get the nag screens to disappear is well worth it. I have to agree with Adultery on this.
  6. Does anyone have the pixel coordinates for the Media Player button placements? I am trying to create custom media buttons for a new theme and need to know where to place each of them relative to the upper right corner. I know that the precise X-Y coordinates are going to vary by resolution. If someone can just tell me x number of pixels from the right-most vertical edge and Y number of pixels from the top-most horizontal edge for each button it would be an awesome help! BTW, this theme will be based upon "SINS of a Solar Empire," a recent PC game of which I am fond of (not to mention the Stardock MyColors theme from which I am creating a 1920x1080 theme for GameEx - YES - a true hi-def 1080p theme! I am currently running the theme for my PC, including Windows 7 boot screen and changes to Window Media Center to present a coordinated HTPC/GameEx feel throughout.
  7. All - I have been checking through some of the members that appear on, of all things, the Members with Birthdays. In doing so, there are quite a few with ICQ numbers posted, along with some questionable email addresses and websites listed. Often times, the show as Newbies with 0 posts. As I began to dig a little deeper, I have uncovered quite a few that are actually spammers at best just by "Googling" their email addresses and ICQ numbers. Please, be cautious and do not click on their links for their websites, etc, without doing some preliminary research first. I am not one that is very paranoid (even though I know that everyone is out to get me ), but as with anything over the Internet, it is better to be cautious now than scrambling to reinstall your OS and trying to recover the stuff we always back-up on a regular basis, right? I know that Tom and the Admins do their best to catch them ASAP and ban their entries. We just need to do our part and practice "safe surfing" to ensure we are not impacted (Note to self: submit patent for modem condoms).
  8. LTNS SIlver X as well! Looks like we are getting the whole orchestra back together! Ranzo - I look forward to reviewing your guide - lots of useful information for the novice and not so news alike!
  9. Ranzo, Evilforces and Wahoo - as with any troubleshooting issue, please provide a copy of your log file right after the issue occurs and gameex.ini file (may need to save as a text file by opening in Notepad and saving as a .txt file). This allows us to review the logs and your configuration. While you may be encountering a problem that appears on the surface to be the same as one reported at an earlier time, providing us this bit of info may show that a new issue has arisen that is actually different than one previously addressed. It may be one and the same. This will help us to know for sure. You do not note what you are using as your default media player. This info is also useful. Please provide the name and complete version number (found usually in Help > About XXXXX (where XXXXX is the name of the media player). Some times the issue is not a GameEx issue at all, but a problem with a setting in the media player you are using. You may click on the Applications and Guides by Tempest link in my sig should you need to reference the "How to ask for Help" guide provided by Tempest with a list of most of the common information tidbits the community needs to help you resolve your issue. Thanks!
  10. Brian - can you give us a little more info (how it is setup in GameEx, and any path-specific info for using this program)?

I would like for you to confirm within your MAME directory options what you are showing for your various paths to make sure that the paths match what you have in your GameEx setup. If not, then correct your paths within GameEx to match those in MAME or iwithin MAME to match those within GameEx and try running GameEx again. You can easily do this without opening MAME or MAMEUI32(or64) by locating the "SEARCH PATH OPTIONS" within the mame.ini (or mameui.ini if using the gui versions) - refer to mine as an example: # SEARCH PATH OPTIONS # flyer_directory C:\Assets\MAME\flyers cabinet_directory C:\Assets\MAME\cabinets marquee_directory C:\Assets\MAME\marquees title_directory C:\Assets\MAME\titles cpanel_directory C:\Assets\MAME\cpanel pcb_directory C:\Assets\MAME\pcb background_directory C:\Assets\MAME\bkground folder_directory C:\Assets\MAME\folders icons_directory C:\Assets\MAME\icons To clean things up a bit, since you do not have any other emulators setup to run through GameEx currently, let's also remove the additional emulators from the configuration. Once these have been done, please provide new copies of yoru log and gameex.ini files. I know it sounds like a pretty basic request, but have seen some pretty odd stuff occur due to a basic, minor detail. Since the log file is not forthcoming with what is causing it to not go beyond "nag" I don't want to rule anything out.
  12. Italian to English translation Beduino: Hello everyone sorry but I do not speak English (HI But sorry i dont speack Inglese) is there anyone among you who speak Italian? I have a problem with GameEx and mame. Sorry again Regards IMBERZERK: Hello, Maybe I can help. What is the problem with MAME? Beduino: hello I bought the license GameEx I find a very high performance. I have things set up with various emulators (mame, nes, snes, n64, atari 2006.7800, videopack saws etc. ..) qunado GameEx start in the main menu, I find myself with mame rom 3400. if I go there I found the game menu with 9000 rom mame but why? In addition, if configure Xpadder only works if I go to the games menu instead of mame from the main menu does not work. (This is solved by configuring the mame with the tab key. If I still would like to ask two things: - You can create different folders with different rom emulators in a single list? (eg: sports games mame, sega, nintendo all in one folder?) - where you can find snappack of Sega Master System, etc. .. (eg master system rom 1000 and I create the images becomes long to do) Last question maybe you're an expert, and can install GameEx popcorn hour on c200? Thank you so much Just thought I'd translate so that the search engine picks up on the thread if there is any resolution that may be useful for any non-Italian forum members.
  13. Another thing to consider is that if the file needs NVRAM, you will need to download NVRAM files to place in the NVRAM folder to "seed" the entry. Unless you have done so already, you may need to update your ROMs with ClearMAME Pro to ensure that they are current for the MAME build you are using.
  14. Have you gone into Advanced Configuration under the emulator setting and selected "Hide Desktop?"
  15. Does it work outside of GameEx? If so, please provide your log file. You may also want to go into the Advanced Configuration and make sure that VMR9 is enabled (Under Multimedia/HTPC) and save.
  16. Celly - You can update your 360 via a USB Flash Drive or burn the update to CD/DVD by clicking the respective link. Enjoy!
  17. Hey Vsilvalopes! LTNS! You are on of the few that have a good handle on how to do it best and was thinking of you when I saw this. I have not a clue on how to do it and would not want to encourage anyone to do so unless they have got some experienced guidance from a Pro!
  18. Might be fun GameExers together on a game - My gamertag is Draco1962 (surprised, eh?). RIght now still going through campaign mode on COD Black Ops. I have the previous COD game series for the 360 back to COD 2, however favor anything released from COD Modern Warfare and after. I have Halo from the beginning, but much prefer COD on Live. Just too many "kids" in the Halo Live games. I have to agree with Mesk - best to keep the younger ones out of there as there are quite a few asses on Live (hence why I usually plug in the headset and just mute the mike and turn the volume all the way down unless playing with a team. I have to admit to occasionally goading some of them into screwing up to my advantage..
  19. Yeah, they do frown mightily. I had considered "modding" my original xbox as an HTPC player (using XBMC and upgrading the hard drive) and, since you can only associate one xbox with one Live account, may actually go forward with it. Just have a few other priorities (house repairs, home network and PC chores once my daughter moves out and we have an "office" again, building a cab... does the list EVER end?) to take care of first. Does it still play the games (sans LIVE)?
  20. No need for an apology! We are here to help. Some of us are just limited and it helps to not have to translate so we can address the problem quickly! Can you try to open one of your .pdf files again, then attach a copy of your log file located under C:\GameEx\LOG ? Also, it may be helpful if we have an example or two of the .pdf you are attempting to open. The more examples we can provide for Tom the more quickly he may be able to determine why were are seeing these errors and find a resolution. We appreciate your help and if not noted previously, welcome to the forums!
  21. I wouldn't let an issue with initial install be a deterrent to donating for the full version. As you can see form browsing about through our forums that there is more to GameEx than being a great Frontend (which you will see once we get you past the the current dilemma). In addition to the log file you provided and answering Brian's question about your XP install, can you locate and zip a copy of your gameex.ini file(alternately you can load this file in Notepad and save as a text file - the Forums do not allow for uploading of raw .ini files)? You should find it at C:\GameEx\CONFIG . Thanks and Welcome to the GameEx Forums!
