I had a similar problem a while back and was able to clear it by deleting all files with cache in the file name or extension (in the Data directory), then rebooting GameEx. Under normal conditions, it will default to the last view you select.

Actually, that may be an issue within the Change View options when you have GameEx running. Assign a logo in the logo field of the Custom Menu, then exit. Boot GameEx and then click on Change View in the menu bar at the bottom of the screen. You may need to cycle through a few settings but it should display the logo you selected instead of as the background.

I forgot to ask also for a copy of your CustomMenu.ini file as well. .sorry about that!

Do you have Show Start Page First set to Yes and Disable MAME set to No in Advanced Configuration under Enable/Disable Features? You may want to copy your gameex.ini file into notepad, save it as a text file, and upload it to the thread (the forum software will not allow you to upload an executable or ini file directly).

You will want to go through the Advanced configuration first and look at Enable/Disable features to disable some of what you do not want to appear first. There are also options to Enable Yes/No in some of the main section headers there as well for News, etc. Try these first before delving into Custom Menus. Once you have disabled ALL the features you do not want displayed in GameEx but still see some items that you would like to remove from view or rearrange their order, THAT is where the Custom Menus program comes in. You will find it in the Configuration folder for GameEx when accessing from your Windows Start or you can find it in the Gameex folder wherever you have GameEx installed on your hard drive. There are not many how-to's so you will need to tinker about via trial & error but that is the place to start after you have done what you can in the Advanced Configuration first. You may want to look at the topic I started here and also those of others in the forum via search for Custom Menus.

What OS are you using? You may want to upgrade your version of MAME to the latest. The current version is 0.141U2.

I have tested the links and get #404 Page not Found errors with the exception of the MAWS links (went directly to the links from Stu's post). I also show the same errors within the news reader.

Dan_Dan - thanks for sharing! I have just installed it myself. For anyone else that does, you can toggle toolbars on & off using F11 key.

OK I think I understand what is happening. The method I mentioned will not work as it appears that it is losing focus. What happens if you just go to firefox as a program and then try a link from bookmarks? Also, have you looked at things within firefox that might be taking away focus (searching for updated to add-ons or firefox itself, etc.)? Otherwise, if using the html links alternative in GameEx, it appears that it is defaulting to IE which is not uncommon for most programs to use as a default regardless of what you may have selected as the default browser.

This is not possible with the Custom Menus other than as ehuonder has suggested. I have put in a feature request to allow for the creation of Play Lists - the idea being that the individual ROMs listed would retain their values & features within the emulator category in which they are found (i.e. MAME, MESS, Etc.) This would allow for the creation of multiple play lists even across emulators while retaining the features that we have grown to love.

Bumping from a previous request - Allow for the creation of "play lists" not unlike what can be done within iTunes, WinAmp, or WMP. This would allow for users to create multiple lists of games across emulators so that they can group genres (example, all Mario games, Sonic games, mix & match for a child, etc.). This would be an additional layer beyond using Favorites and allow for even further flexibility and enjoyment of GameEx.

Likely you will need to run it as a targeted link. 1 - Create a shortcut on your desktop (or a folder location - doesn't matter as desktop is just another folder) and browse to C:\Program Files \Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe (or C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe if using Vista/7 64-bit OS). 2 - Click Next and then name your shortcut and click Finish. 3 - Right-click the shortcut and then Left-click on Properties 4 - Locate the Target field and append the URL for the site in question to the end of target with a space in between each. 5 - In GameEx Advanced Configuration, setup the shortcut as an external application. You can use these steps with IE, Chrome, etc. I hope this is of help!

Don't be deterred because a few had some issues. As it turned out, it wasn't always the codecs. Shark007 is one of the most comprehensive and complete that I have found, regularly updated , and compatibility with XP and versions for both 32-bit/64-bit flavors of Vista and 7,

To tag on the comment about piracy. Having been an owner of an Atari 800 XL as its parent company transitioned through several hands before the demise of support in the US, I have seen the arguments for and against it. For it because the system was no longer supported and titles no longer available in the public domain. Against it because of laws protecting intellectual property, copyright, etc. I can see Brian's point about buying from GameStop, etc. Only GameStop benefits from the sale of a used game. It can be argued that, with a game trade-in, perhaps, that the trade-in is a "loss leader" to get you to buy something else new. Sure they discount the retail price by the amount of the trade, but they still make a profit if you see something that ya gotta have and they only have it new. There's a good chance you may buy it. I was reading an online article by one of the programmers for some titles released through Steam. The discussion was surrounding the very subject of software piracy. Their views were pretty simple. "Why do we need DRM if our product is good?" Sins of a Solar Empire was one of their best selling games and they made so much more in profit for writing a good program than many that have their's heavily bogged with DRM schemes of one sort or another.

Have you considered setting it up so you can access it via Remote Desktop? This would allow you to remote into the machine and perform whatever maintenance you need form another system. Likely you would not even have to bring GameEx down to do so as you won't actually be in the same session as the main user (GameEx in this instance).

As far as I know for Mame, although if other Mame derivitives (MESS, etc.) support them then possibly for them as well.
