Not sure about getting this to run through GameEx so wouldn't be the one to ask but my guess is that it would have to run as an external application and not as an emulator VirtualBox is Oracle's (formerly Sun) take on full OS virtualization, unlike DosBox which virtualizes a DOS environment. It is akin to Microrsoft's Virtual PC 2007 and VMWare products. To run anything in these requires a registered license of the Windows or other commercial OS that you are running as a virtualized system generally saved in an ISO format . Most Linux variants are free. Virtualised environments are fun to play with and, sometimes, you can get good results with some of the older legacy programs and games, however, there are limitations due to the GPUs, Sound cards and CPUs being simulated and really take having a pretty good knowledge of the OS you are attempting to run as a VM (Virtual Machine) to overcome these limitations.

Actually found the system pic and logo on Wikipedia.

Only 30? There are over 300! Maybe I overestimated the need... sigh. You're welcome!

Thanks for the kudos! Here is your HTPC and the SG-1000. I appreciate the feedback and if you have any more logos and systems images you can provide for me that were not included already in the Logo Packs, please post them here! My latest theme is getting closer to completion and, in addition to the Logo Packs provided separately, additions will be included in the Logos for the theme,.

Several questions for you: 1 - What type GPU and Monitor do you have? 2 - Have you tried installing anew the latest version of DirectX that your system will handle? 3 - What is the range of color and resolution that your GPU and Monitor are able to handle? Appears that you may either be exceeding the supported resolution limits and/ or have a bad D3D install.

User Submitted Themes & Media (Uploads)
Draco1962 replied to Tom Speirs's topic in GameEx Media Projects
As far as logos go, I am with ya. I recently released some new logo packs and am finding where there are a few that I missed or need to correct, etc.. on and on. I guess determining when to share is a matter of deciding a cutoff point, zipping it up, and uploading to the site. For me that is usually when I get bored with a theme or have a new idea put a bug up my butt to create something. No theme is going to be 100% complete I guess. I have started working with .xcf files (GIMPs version of the .psd) when I finalize a change graphic to place within a foreground or background image. Other than the basic screens that are needed by GameEx "right out of the box" for a first time install, that is about where I would say it is finished for sharing. -
I had a similar error when starting a new theme as Theme Editor requires that you use another theme to "seed" for a new one. I would suggest going into the gameex\data directory and delete all files with cache in the name. You may also want to start with a fresh copy of the original theme to ensure that it is working correctly for you. You will probably want to avoid using Theme Editor to copy images into as much as possible and, instead, use an image editor to open the file, make any changes and Save As to the theme's directory to whatever file name you need it to be. GameEx will pickup the new file and display it if there is a proper path to is in the emulator's configuration section within the Advanced Configuration.

User Submitted Themes & Media (Uploads)
Draco1962 replied to Tom Speirs's topic in GameEx Media Projects
When I first started, I just loaded a few themes in Theme Editor to get a good feel for the layouts. I later found that setting up the layouts in an image editor helped me to speed my creations immensely and Theme Editor to tweak where the size and location of where the images will appear in the finished theme. Using psd files (or xcf if using Gimp) on this latest theme I have started to combine the elements in one package to created the custom screens makes things even faster to compile. I think that the interest and the need exists. I have other theme ideas that I have considered in the past and I am willing to throw out if someone wanted to take off with them and run! ehuonder already flew with one I had entertained with his WOPR (War Games) theme (and, from the screenshots I saw he far surpassed what I had toyed with in my mind). Other themes could include the arcade machine from The Last Starfighter, Tron (Tom has a fantastic Tron theme - other takes I am sure would be welcomed!) and Tron Legacy, Weird Science. -
Thanks, Ben! Will give this one a go!

The one thing I wish we could see more themes developed and submitted but the users of this community. I know some probably prefer to keep them to themselves due to the time invested to tweak them, but I think that the more themes we have available for share with the user community, the easier it is for those new to GameEx and Arcade Emulation in general. I appreciate the functionality of GameEx immensely! I think that with more themes available to the new users that chance upon us, we have a better opportunity to sell the product on the eye-candy aspects as well. What I would like to do is start by throwing down my next theme in development (Enter the Dragon) and challenge the user community to a contest. Perhaps Tom, Circo, and a few of the other admins or mods wouldn't mind sitting in as our panel of judges. They could possibly determine several categories for an initial "semi-final competition" and the winners of these categories move on to the finals to determine the top 3 themes of 2011. This will give everyone plenty of time to brush up if it has been a while or to pick up the programs and skills to show their creative flair! Give your thoughts on this. I think that this can be done fairly and I know that the talent is out there! -

Glad that worked! OK for us to mark as resolved for you?

I have the same issue. Just the way it is so, unless working on a large image, usually size & drag my window where I want it or hit the window/fullscreen toggle as needed.
-
Alpha - you may want to delete the cace files and let it rebuild the list. Give that a try. I beleive that initiailly the stations rebuild on a thread. You should be able to see quite a few stations under each genre. I have tested on my system and had no problems, same as fReqEnCy.

Ian - glad ya got things going in a positive direction! You will need to install the Shark007 32-bit codecs and the 64-bit add-on pack for Win 7 x64 as some apps will make calls to the 32-bit WMP or the 64-bit version depending on how they are written.

@Krakerman - MS-DOS and DOSBox logos are already created (No more time for alternative logos or re-dos here unless it its to correct for putting the wrong console with a logo). With LOGO PACK #3 I did include a Background.psd and .xcf files so that users can get started and create their own logos. Mastering the reflection and layer masks has a bit of a learning curve, but hey! Why can't we all become Photoshop/GIMP Jedi Masters!

Most emulators that run through a command line or simple GUI will work with GameEx. Give it a try!
-
@Adultery - Agreed. Some programs will recognize the 64-bit OS and will either error that the OS is not supported, will install under Program Files (x86), or Ian will need to search each for 64-bit versions. Simply moving stuff over will not suffice. If using MAMEUI32, probably best to use MAMEUI64. He will need to install the Shark 007 codecs for Windows Vista/7 64 bit and another pack (will need to read the site notes). Drivers here are crucial. There will also be some tweaks to the OS to increase performance and take advantage of the 64-bit architecture. Too many to list here so Google may be a better friend than I at this point to answer some of the questions.

I think I can find some time to throw something together. While these packs were the most comprehensive I had created, I know that there are more obscure systems that did not make the packs. As for the new theme, it is actually proceeding quicker than anticipated. I created an .xcf (GIMP's version of the PhotoShop .psd file) so it should help me to crank out the foreground and background files. What will be surprising to most is that there will be far fewer of these files (those who want all the foregrounds for specific systems, menus, etc, will just have to create them starting with the .xcf/.psd files provided - imagine that!).

LOL! It's OK Ian, it's what I do. Not sure *why* it was behaving that way, but I was able to work around it by using a different "seed" theme for my new theme. Sometimes it just happens. We can mark this one as resolved!
