The main things to be considered (in addition to null's points) when passive cooling is surface area of the heat sink and air flow through the case. The heatsink is probably sufficient for your needs, but it never hurts to install an additional fan to help push/pull air through your case. When I built my server and upgraded my desktop/htpc, I added an additional fan to each case and added additional cable ties to minimize any obstacles that might restrict the air flow.

You may also consider attaching a piece of black heavy card stock or poster board to the back. Similar is down with assembled shelves and entertainment centers to block the appearance of reflected light.

Awesome job and thanks for sharing your list of components! I am considering the cocktail kit from Xtension Arcade in the not-too-distant future for use with my Xbox/360 consoles and HTPC setup. The primary monitor will be an HDTV wall mounted with a smaller secondary (19" - 22") monitor within in the adjustable cocktail monitor mount. My question for you is how would you rate the construction of your cab for a pre-fab kit?

Can you provide a copy of your event log from within Windows (Right-click Computer>Left-Click Manage then select Event Viewer>Windows Logs>System) immediately following the crash? You should see an error or warning message (maybe multiple errors) about the time of the crash occurence.

You did not indicate whether or not this is occurring when running the game in DOSBox and through GameEx or outside of it. If running the game directly through DOSBox and not from within GameEx, then we may be a bit limited in troubleshooting the cause unless someone else has run into this issue and can provide some advice. If occurring when running through GameEx, please provide us with a copy of your log.txt file immediately following the error and we may be able to suggest something.

Since we do not have a copy of your gameex.ini file or log.txt file, we can only make some guesses. Please attach them in your next reply within this thread. Also, let us know if you are using any 3rd-party software to manager your gamepads (i.e. Joy-to-Key, Xpadder, etc.).

Flocke - there is apparently something special about your setup that is creating this rendering problem with the most recent releases. Tom's response to you was not a flippant retort but more of a head-scratching response to really needing more information than you have provided thus far. I ask that you exercise some patience with us and Tom and we attempt to help you find a resolution. If this were a major bug, then most or all of us should be encountering it, which we are not. Even if you do not see something in the log.txt file that is meaningful to you after the program crashes, please submit the log when we ask. You may also want to submit your latest gameex.ini file as well Make note of the date/time the crash occurs and see if you can locate under Event Viewer any log files generated there as well. As always, please translate as much as you can of these in English. A full accounting of your software (OS, video, graphics card(s) and driver versions, DIrectX version, codecs installed) may be helpful. Before installing additional video players, test GameEx. I just told them "I have a Series III Tivo which requires CableCard" and they told me where to go (nearest branch office) to pick one up. The cost per month is minimal.

We have Comcast and they provide CableCard for use with our Tivo.

I am sure you can probably do so, but if you are not very PC savvy and don't know how to intimately use command lines, I would not recommend it. It is what gives you your task bar and other GUI goodies. Not knowing what OS you are currently using, I cannot make clear recommendations, but you may want to explore your performance settings and make sure that all visual extras are turned off in your Performance Tools section of Control Panel (In Win 7). With one click you can have it set for best performance turning off many of the visual features. Another thing to consider is disabling unused services and various applications that start up with Windows. You can disable print spooling service if no printer connected, for example. Black Viper has recommended tweaks and lists of services you can safely disable to speed up your Windows.

What are you using as your default media player?

You may need to explore the Custom Menus application for organizing/managing your menus outside of GameEx out of the box standard. That is something not controlled via Theme Editor. The visualizer you can turn off via the Setup Wizard.

I don't think it is intended to work that way. An emulator group is setup to appear as one seamless interface as opposed to the individual emulator screens when not using an emulator group. 1 Interface = 1 background. You may want to make this a feature request to allow or an enable/disable option to display originating emulator's background.

There is a multi-user feature that you can use as well for when you want to run a standard "guest level" setup vs. admin for testing and update purposes.

Not sure anything needs to be done in regedit. Have you tried modifying the drive paths in your gameex.ini file?
