  1. I am not an expert with regards to cabs, but I think a lot depends on what the max resolution is that your monitor can support and you intend to run. My guess is that you do not need to engage the Arcade VGA settings in conjunction with soft15khz, but I will defer to those that actually use or have used it to provide a more definitive answer. As for the themes, I would review what is available for download based upon the settings you can/will be using. Usually, as long as the theme has the same aspect ratio as the monitor settings, scalling will take place. If you are attempting to use a high-def theme, it will not.
  2. You're welcome! When creating the Hexed theme, I did not want to use the Arrow Up/Down buttons. When I initially loaded the theme, I click on the Arrow buttons and simply hit the "eye" (visibility) button while in that view, and also within the buttons section of the theme editor to ensure that they did not show in the theme once complete.
  3. You will want to uninstall ffdshow and go to the Shark 007 Codec site (it has ffdshow as part of its install). Additionally, if you are running Windows 7 x64 version, you will also want to install the x64 codec pack as well.
  4. I believe that you can click the "eye" to make it invisible in the view but not certain if this translates to not being viewed in the active theme. Changing the X-Y coordinates to something outside of the size of the theme will also work (i.e., if theme is 800 x 600, change X to 900 and Y to 700).
  5. My guess is to do it that way would require that the image would have to match whatever the naming convention is of the file, lnk, whatever, and would require a db, etc. in order to function as if it were an emu background. I seem to recall that opening the db's in a thread was an issue because it was loading all db's and not just the one being used. This would just add to that if a db was necessary to accomplish what you are wanting.
  6. Besides that, if I am not mistaken, Zinc was developed from an older MAME build. It would not be impossible that some of the fancy footwork wasn't incorporated or at least they found a way on faster systems to make it more like the actual thing.
  7. I am assuming you are attempting to triangulate an approximate date. Based upon Mesk's post in the Social Club, try searching for dev notes on or before July 25th. I hope this is of help!
  8. I Have to agree with Adultery on this one. We may be able to get GameEx working right, but if you are unable to update to SP3 and the latest video drivers and Direct X version because of an nlite install, you will run the risk of breaking something else and, to be honest, I would not want to try to troubleshoot the cascade of issues this may cause.
  9. Adobe reader supports side-by-side page views - one is two page which snaps the next two pages into view when you page down, and the other scrolls from the first two to the next two. I think the snap to the next two would be preferable and would look very good in a widescreen setting. Again, being able to toggle through the various view would be a must (same as the change view menu option) and the system remembering the setting chosen by updating the gameex.ini file.
  10. Care to share some pictures or video of it in action? Might also share an export of your configs... hmm?
  11. +1 to Alpha's suggestion. If the Select feature could toggle the views from standard, to fit page, to display two pages side-by-side (not unlike the Change View toggle in GameEx), then I would think it to be doable.
  12. If you were so inclined to learn how, you could probably build what you are suggesting as a web page or series of web pages locally hosted on your own machine. Having built a few in the distant past, once you get the hang of it it isn't that difficult, especially with the abundance of free or inexpensive web authoring tools.
  13. Thanks Tom! Stuff happens and no harm caused! Again, the updates are great!
  14. I believe his has a standard PCI slot and not PCI Express per the pdf link I posted previously. That may be a limiting factor to card availability since he will be dealing with an older card design. Not to say it would impossible, but if running on an arcade monitor will probably need to be able to run it at 15khz to display properly as most arcade monitors run at that speed.
  15. Hard to say as I don't have an arcade monitor. You may want to post as much information as you can about what you have. There are others here that do run cabs with arcade monitors that may be able to help further.
  16. On reviewing information regarding your system that I found here, I would say that you should be able to run all OK. I assume you are running Windows XP Home or Professional on this microtower with SATA HDD support.I would not recommend using onboard video. Would recommend looking for a PCI graphics adapter with no less than 512MB of RAM with 1MB being preferable.
  17. Here are the minimum requirements for running GameEx and other support docs. Pentium 3 800Mhz CPU (or equivalent) DirectX(DirectDraw) Compatible Video card, capable of 16 bit colour at 640X480. [Your video card does not normally need to be too special unless using videos or DVD, although older motherboard onboard video is not recommended] DirectSound Compatible Sound Card. 256MB Ram Windows 2000 (SP4), XP (SP2), MCE, Vista, Windows 7 250MB Free hard drive space Microsoft .net framework 2 service pack 1 Microsoft Direct X 9.0 Windows Media Player 9 or above If you are planning to run just MAME along with video snaps, marquees, etc. you would probably be OK at 250MB but that will not leave you much room for anything else. With the price of HDDs being very reasonable, a 1TB drive to store all ROMS, snaps, etc would probably be sufficient and allow you to use the 120MB just for your MAME executables and Windows.
  18. Premature there, Krake! Still looping the update!
  19. Build Your Own Arcade Controls (BYOAC) site is pretty much the defacto place to start with a plethora of different plans and advice. I use MAMEUI64 as I am running on Windows 7 x64 version. There are those that prefer MAMEUIFX or other derivatives of the MAMEUI builds. As adultery noted, knowing what kind of graphics card you will be using plus your OS will be more helpful in lending guidance and advice.
  20. It appears that it did install the 12.11 features/fixes for me. Just keeps showing the update prompt.
  21. I confirmed this is occurring for me as well. Disabled auto-updates via Setup Wizard>Enable Features in the mean time.
  22. Internet over HMDI allows internet enabled devices (Blu-Ray Disk players, TVs, etc.) to connect to the internet via the HDMI interface through the HTPC or supporting device. It is relatively new. I imaging that it would be comparable to gigabit speeds which would make streaming of videos a lot smoother than standard.
  23. Just in case someone should ask, Select in the screen view to toggle fit to screen is the same as ENTER on the keyboard.
  24. That is awesome! My Galaxy GT430 has HDMI sound support (no internet but not a biggie right now) with one HDMI, VGA, and one DVI output.
  25. Pretty sweet! Love the dual DVI outputs. Does the HDMI support sound or internet-over HDMI?
