Fantastic work Draco! I really like this one. This is definitely one to keep an eye on. There have been a couple of XBMC inspired themes in the past, but you just know it's going to be something special when it's got that special 'Draco1962 magic'.

This is a really cool little app Stigzler! I think it's awesome how you've always got projects bubbling with activity here and there. So how was your first experience with VB? Did you find it easier than your previous work with batch scripting?
-
Happy Birthday Stigzler! Thank you for all that you for all your cool contributions, for all that you do in this community, and for being such a solid dude in general.

Window display issue with Custom Menu Editor [bug]
nullPointer replied to cartisdm's topic in General
Hi Cartisdm, Just out of curiosity, what is your resolution set as? I'm wondering whether an alternate resolution might clear up the issue. -
The legality is certainly one issue, but the other issue is that there would be development time for GameEx to integrate and interface with the 'rogue' API, coupled with a relatively high risk that Netflix would turn around and make it non-functional. At that point we're stuck with 2 non-functioning APIs instead of just one. All the same it's pretty interesting, and I certainly appreciate you sharing the news!

Hi GeorgeBuford and Welcome to the GameEx Forums! Fist let me say that it's always impressive when folks such as yourself put in such an amazing amount of effort and dedication to bring their vision to life in terms of how their cab(s) should operate. It really sounds like you've put together something truly impressive. I think GameEx can is capable of doing most of the things you've asked about, but we'll break it down point by point. GameEx can easily display a startup video. It will also allow for Mp3s to be loaded as you're browsing through menus (a lot of folks use the 'Arcade Ambiance' mp3 which is a long playing track containing the types of noises you might here in an arcade of yore). You can fins more information regarding Arcade Ambiance on the Support Files page. If you were interested in randomizing this track, you could do so using Tempest's Randomizer application to swap out the Arcade Ambiance track with whatever you wished. One huge benefit GameEx will yield is that you no longer would need to edit menu contents by hand. GameEx will detect changes to your ROM directories and make adjustments accordingly (For MAME you must click a menu prompt to refresh your game list, all other emulators are refreshed on startup). GameEx attract mode is capable of doing all of this and more (with one caveat being that I'm not sure whether the Randomizer app is set up to trigger an event upon returning from attract mode - that one might require a bit of research). Attract mode can work in one of two ways. It can simply play random videos as you're doing now, or it can randomly launch the actual ROMs in succession with each one playing for a set amount of time. The super cool thing about this latter option is that you can immediately start playing the currently displayed game directly from attract mode. This is one area where you may need to bring in some (well, one) additional supporting application. GameEx doesn't directly support controlling aspects of hardware functionality being that everyone's hardware is a bit different. What it can do is that it supports LEDBlinky out of the box via a default included plugin. I think LEDBlinky would be very capable of handling your cabinet lighting (and more), which you can integrate into GameEx via the plugin. In terms of swapping out media and whatnot based on user permissions, Headkaze has written a handy dandy program called GameEx Login. This basically sets up user accounts for your GameEx machine which allow you to customize not only the media and whatnot to display, but also allows you to create custom game lists by user. GameEx includes a theme editor which allows you to completely customize the frontend, and with the upcoming release of GameEx Evolution this feature promises to become better, deeper, and more robust (your knowledge of ActionScript could come in very handy in the future! ). In terms of the current theme editor the general advice is that you should create your artwork in the editor of your choice (GIMP, PhotoShop, etc.) and use the theme editor for placement of elements. Please do take a look at the GameEx Media Projects sub-forum to see some of the cool things you can achieve with the current theme editor.

[RESOLVED] 14.02 Unable to see "Get MetaData" option
nullPointer replied to u-man's topic in General
Hi U-man I actually do see the Get Metadata option under my Movies menu. Have you double checked that your your movies path points only to the directory containing your movies? By what method did you update GameEx? I suppose if we take this conversation much further we should start a new thread. (Unfortunately I'm on Tapatalk right now). Edit: Maybe it's related to the Theme you're using? -
Awesome update! Thanks so much to Tom and the entire GameEx development team! I notice that the download page is still currently listed as being 14.01. I updated this time via the auto-updater so I can't verify the contents of the download, but I'm guessing it's just the webpage that's behind (rather than the download itself). Thanks again!

I'm going to state the obvious here, but it looks like you've taken the 'normal' Mednafen command line and simply replaced "mednafen.exe" with "medgui.exe". I'm relatively certain that won't work. In fact I'm pretty sure that MedGUI doesn't actually support being run from the command line (it would kinda defeat the purpose of having a frontend which allows you to forego using the command line ... only to turn around and try to run it from the command line, no? ) What I think should work is if you point your working directory to where ever your mednafen.exe resides, and use your same command as above but with the proper executable. You should be able to configure Mednafen outside of GameEx using MedGui, but you'll want to run it as 'standard' Mednafen from within GamEx. Good luck dude!

Hi woodyjiow Database Query! Ha, I love it. Currently the two popular disc image sets that are officially supported by the databases are ReDump and TOSEC. That's not to say that Trurip sets couldn't be compatible with GameEx databases (after all they simply match by name), only that there is not currently a column reserved for Trurip.

Happy birthday guys, and thanks for being such integral parts of the GameEx/PinballX community!

Hmm ... you bring up an excellent point. I actually tried Plex quite a while back, and enjoyed it greatly. Among other things the robust DLNA features in Plex are much more in keeping with my needs (i'm also a Serviio user, so the possibility of combining my Media center apps is intriguing). At the time I stuck with XBMC because I knew the ins and outs a bit better, and the library management features were more familiar. But ... this was before XBMC decided it had a voracious appetite for my music library (primarily artist) artwork. It may be high time i take another look at Plex! Thanks for the reminder Shermo!

[RESOLVED]pSX (psxfin) fine outside when mounting not in gameex
nullPointer replied to Shermo's topic in General
Dude ... I think I'm having some Deja Vu here. I used to use pSX but switched over to ePSXe. I couldn't remember why, but I think this may be the exact reason. I'm not sure if pSX is able to be run from a virtual drive using only the command line. Hopefully I'm wrong, but this is all sounding oddly familiar ... -
Hmm ... I'm kind of shooting from the hip here, and I'm at work so I can't test it, but here's what I would try as a start. Save a bunch of internet shortcuts to a directory on your machine, where each shortcut links to one game (Most browsers will let you do this by dragging the icon next to the URL into your chosen directory)Name the shortcuts according to gameSet your ROM Filter to *.URLIn the Setup Wizard set your ROM directory as well as your Working Directory to the directory containing your shortcutsSet your command to be "[ROMFILE]" (with the quotes intact)Use the Keys To Send setting to send the appropriate key to change your default browser to full screen. Figure out an Xpadder profile that will (hopefully) work across all your linked games and configure the Xpadder plugin accordingly. So again that's just taking a shot in the dark, but it at least seems like a possibility that could work.

Hi Martin and Welcome to the GameEx forums! To be honest, I'm not sure whether Tom has had much opportunity to play with Kodi, being that it was only recently released and the ongoing work for Evolution is extremely time consuming. I can confirm that the GameEx plugin works in XBMC 13.2 Gotham as that's what I still use. It's possible that changes to the Kodi/XBMC codebase have had an impact to the functionality of the plugin. I'll probably be making the jump to Kodi sometime within the next couple of weeks, so I'll be sure to take a look to see what's going on with the plugin (unfortunately it seems that XBMC has had the habit of devouring most of the artwork in my sizeable music library upon subsequent version upgrades, so I haven't exactly been chomping at the bit to update quite yet, at least not until I have some time set aside for duplication of effort ... again)

[RESOLVED]pSX (psxfin) fine outside when mounting not in gameex
nullPointer replied to Shermo's topic in General
The built in auto-mounting of disc images can be a bit finicky at times being that it doesn't allow you to select which virtual drive to use nor what type of virtual drive is preferred for a given emulator. Due these circumstances I use and recommend using Adultery's Virtual Drive Loader plugin for this purpose as it grants quite a bit more flexibility in terms of auto mounting disc images. In truth it's one of my favorite plugins due to the fact that it's super simple to use, but configurable enough to be very powerful for what it does. -
Hi ShankyMcStabber and Welcome to the GameEx Forums! The weird part about this is that GameEx isn't doing anything (as you've noted). Even if your command line is completely wrong, and your rom path points to a directory full of Word documents, GameEx will (or should) still attempt to do something (even if it winds up exploding in spectacular fashion). At the very least it should generate a runitgame.bat. This is sounding more and more like a Windows permissions issue to me. So two questions then: Where do you have GameEx installed? and Have you tried running GameEx as administrator?

Thanks a lot for sharing your solution nnndoh! I've been a fan of Handbrake for many years, but lately I've been getting more and more use out of Spesoft's own Convert-It software for my video conversion needs. Convert-It will also handle your video rotation conversion via an easy GUI based interface. If you've not tried Convert-It I highly recommend it. (Not to mention that the author of the Convert-It suite is our very own Tom Speirs!)

Wow that's really awesome Shermo, thanks for the share! (Again!) I have to say that I'm pretty curious to take Limelight for a test drive (... and I know a certain someone that might be interested in the Raspberry Pi client)
-
Yeah I have to agree it's crazy. I don't know whether the original dev(s) sold the Tapatalk name or what, but with this recent round of updates/'modernization' it's as if the entire design philosophy of the app has been changed for the worse.
-
I'm with you man. At first I hated the new changes, now I'm slowly becoming accustomed to them. The one thing the devs really should still fix at this point (IMO), is that the thread title/sub-forum name still takes up entirely too much screen real estate.
-
Dude! That's fantastic! Probably the best reason to pick up a Shield I've seen to date. This sort of thing hadn't really occurred to me. Thanks for the share!

Hi bluetrain and Welcome to the GameEx Forums! The "Change View dilemma" is not uncommon among new users of GameEx, but once you figure out the basics of how to do it from within the interface you'll be whizzing through various views in no time. If you are in a "horizontal" view type, the change view icon can typically be reached if you navigate almost fully to the right in the topmost navigation menu. If you're in a "icon based" view the the Change View icon looks like a computer monitor displaying stars. If you're in a "text based" view it will simply say <Change View>. You may need to change views a few times before finally getting back to your favorite. Good luck with this, and feel free to report back if you run into problems or if the above description is unclear.
