PinballX Enhancements/Features Requests
MrGrynch replied to Draco1962's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
Currently, the Loading Videos and Images are global to all Systems, resulting in media for ALL configured systems residing in one area. This is very untidy. Similar to attract mode media, why can't the loading videos and images be moved to within the system folder? This creates a logical separation between the systems and their associated media. The global media folders would be used if no media was defined in the system. Thank you! -
PinballX Enhancements/Features Requests
MrGrynch replied to Draco1962's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
For justification, please see: Display Underlay Only in System For setups that only have a few systems, the default behavior for the system list looks quite bad. For example, in my setup I only have PinballX and MAME. On the wheel, it shows PinballX, MAME,PinballX, MAME.... and so on. What I did was to create blank versions of the system image to suppress the display, instead showing the system info on a background. Then I turned off the wheel underlay. This is fine for the systems list, but I would like to have the wheel underlay displayed when I actually select a system (in my case, PinballX or MAME). Currently, there is no way to show an underlay only on the individual systems without it also showing up on the system list. I am requesting that an option be added to suppress the underlay on the systems list. This is a very narrow request to what I feel would be a much larger improvement to PinballX. I will detail that in another request as to keep this request from getting "muddied" Thank you! -
The Database Manager app will download loading videos for many tables. It appears that there are several DMD-style overlay videos that are incorporated with playfield videos. I have two questions: 1. Are those DMD-style overlays available somewhere? 2. How are they added to the playfield video? I want to be able to make my own and share them with the community Thank you for any assistance! I made a company logo for Orbital. I had been using my "made up" manufacturer "OrbitalPin". Happy to see its now legit. I also made a VPW logo for their original games (so far, only Blood Machines AFIK)

@Mike_da_Spike@scutters I am totally in love with PinballX Db Manager. What a fantastically well-written and intuitive tool. Thank you so much for creating this! like Game Manager, you somehow didn’t think a “Save” button was needed. I disagree. It’s one of my biggest annoyances with Game Manager. Please consider adding it. Again, thank you a thousand times!

I’m pretty sure it does this to fill the wheel on the left side, starting at the top of the alphabet. The algorithm to do this is easier than rolling over past “Z”. I understand it, but not intuitive.

Hi @scutters Yes, I have .png files for each system in the System Underlays folder, but it isnt what I am looking for. In the attached video, I have a "visual pinball.png" file in the System Underlays folder and nothing for MAME. You can see that it actually displays that file (or lack of) in the systems list. I only have two systems on my cabinet: MAME and Visual Pinball. I have the display of the system wheel images suppressed, and I was wondering if there was a way to only show the underlay after I select a system. I don't want it on the systems list itself. I appreciate any advice!

PinballX Enhancements/Features Requests
MrGrynch replied to Draco1962's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
When in attract mode, the underlay image remains displayed. This presents a "burn-in" issue since it's never changing. I'm proposing that the wheel images and overlay fade out when attract mode starts, and comes back as soon as a button is pressed. -
Hmmmm.. Thought I tried using description, but maybe not. UPDATE: It seems that the frontend DOES sort based on description, not game name. That's great! Still a slight problem. When I launch PinballX, for some reason, it doesn't start by displaying the first title in alphabetic order. On my installation, it seems to always start displaying the THIRD table in my list. See attached image

Ooooh! I like! Doing this would make the DMD vids more consistent with my arcade side...

I manage a very large media library, and one thing that is very useful is a custom sort field. It makes it very convenient to force the front-end to display movies in the correct order, even when the title or numbering would cause it to display differently (and incorrectly). Unless I am missing something, PinballX is lacking this. The game name is critical to finding FTP content, but.. if the game title is poorly named or formed, then you are "locked into" that. For example, The Addams Family. Everywhere I look it can be found under "T" when it should be under "A" i.e. Addams Family, The. This has the other unfortunate side effect of causing the game to be listed in the front-end in the wrong spot. Ideally, the front-end should have an option to sort on the Description field, or add a custom sort field. Some field that is NOT responsible for other title matching criteria. Sure, I can fix the title myself, but then I am signing myself for always having to search for media by hand since the name matching will fail. Am I missing something obvious?

No mocking here! Thats a cool cabinet. One of these days, I'm going to build a new control panel for mine to include a spinner and a second stick. Also going to add a few more buttons including a 2-player start. Never heard of AHK scripting. I'll have to look into it. I created a couple of shortcuts that run MultimonitorTool with different orientations. I like your idea re:NAS. I have one that is under-utilized right now that could smooth out my workflow a bit. Thanks for chiming in!

I find myself bouncing back and forth between my pincab and my desktop PC a lot while configuring and tweaking my tables. For some things, I find it too cumbersome to work directly at the table, but then I also get tired of going back and forth all the time. I use Remote Desktop, which helps a bit. I was curious how some of you guys manage this? Thanks for any advice!

Good thing I didn't just jump on it.. i'd be lost already!

I was just messing around.. I had said something in a previous post about wanting to give it a try. I was too overwhelmed by everything I didn't know in the beginning to step outside of the provided tools. Now I am a bit more comfortable and I am finding the Game Manager a bit klunky to use, and I like the look of DBManager, so I'm going to give it a try.

OKOKOK! I'm gonna try DBManager this weekend. Thanks guys!

You’re right! They do happen in real time. I did find the problem though. See attached image. When I select an alternate image, it updates in Game Manager, but when I reload, it reverts to the previous one. I’m guessing it’s because they are the exact same name, except for the extension. When I reload, Game Manager must have a preference over .png files over .gif

I added several tables to my system, fired up Game Manager and they were all detected. I did the initial import of media data, but did not like two of the wheel choices. I individually selected the wheel option and clicked IMPORT. I found alternates that I liked better and selected them. Since there is no way (i know of) to tell Game Manager to "SAVE NOW" without exiting the app, I exited the app. It did not realize I made any changes and quietly exited. When I re-loaded it, the changes were not saved. So, I thought I would be clever and tweak a setting to force the save. When I tried to exit, Game Manager asked if I wanted to save my changes. I said yes and the program exited. When I relaunched, only the setting I tweaked to trick the Game Manager was saved.. The wheel images reverted again. This leaves me with two questions: 1. Is there a way to save changes without exiting the Game Manager? 2. Any ideas how to deal with the wheel image issue? Thank you for any assistance!

Went in and cleaned it up a bit. Removed artifacts around the edges

I love this new VPW table, but it only has Tarcisio-style wheel images. I created a PBX version. I stripped out the background to make just the text stand out. This is my first time doing anything like this, so give me some slack. I have uploaded the image to my FTP area at: /-PinballX-/Other Uploads/MrGrynch/pinballx/media/visual pinball/wheel images

It's just so bizarre. When I only had a handful of tables, it was fine. I mean ROCK SOLID. I added about a dozen more and the problems started. Since each table runs in isolation, the number I have shouldn't matter. I am happy upgrading the hardware seems to have fixed it, but it really bugs me why it was a problem in the first place. Thanks for all of your help @Mike_da_Spike. I really appreciate it!
