  1. If I ever get a decent card, I will probably go that route as well, but Windows 10, as part of its XBox heritage includes a "game recorder" which isn''t very discriminating. It can't record everything, but it seems to work just fine for PinballX. You hit WIN+G to bring it up. From there you can tweak settings, etc. I set up a more convenient hotkey to start/stop recording. Then I tried it on a game. Recorded the full screen game with sound no problem. Its not integrated with PinballX. It works standalone
  2. Thanks to @Mike_da_SpikeI was just made aware that you can rotate videos with ffmpeg. In the process of investigating this, I decided to just re-record my own videos so that my bezels are included. Windows 10 has a built-in screen record that works with PinballX. You just WIN+G and set up a convenient hotkey to start/stop recording (I used CTRL+R). Then launch your game. When you are ready to record, use your hot key to start/stop the recording. The videos are placed in Videos\Captures
  3. Ah! I did not know you could do that. I'll probably record my own anyway just because there will be a lot of blank space on the rotated video. I have a nice bezel on mine to fill those voids. Turns out Windows 10 has a built in screen recorder that captures sound and works within Pinball X. I just tested it. In any case, I think I can call this one resolved. Thanks for the help!
  4. @Mike_da_SpikeAh! I misunderstood what @scutterswas saying. The videos I'm making are for attract mode for MAME. The ones I have currently are just MP4s with integrated sound, but the horizontal videos are rotated the wrong way. So, I need to record new ones. Sounds like I just need to use a different software to capture the videos
  5. I just checked... there aren't any audio files anywhere associated with the video I recorded.
  6. That would be ok if PinballX actually played the audio. So I need to mux the two files?
  7. Now that I have my bezel situation sorted, I wanted to record my game field videos. I used the PinballX recorder and the video looks fine, but there's no sound. Is this normal? How can I record the playfield with sound? Thanks!
  8. While creating bezels for my pincade I found a great tip to apply bezels to all games and use the correct one for vertical/horizonal! Using default bezels
  9. Finally! I have something I can live with. I can use this one for all horizontal games and will create a new one for verticals. Again, thanks for your help! Learning as I go.
  10. Making progress! I got Asteroids working with a custom-made bezel. Going to add some top/bottom edge art to make it look a little cleaner.
  11. The image I am working with is a 4000x3067 image. I don't know the significance of this but it seems to be fairly common. It seems the .lay file I am using is just setting the relationship of the bezel to the playfield and gamefield displays, and MAME is then downsizing it to fit my screen so it all looks right. Do I have this right? I'm guessing that if I just made a 1080 x 1920 (9:16) bezel, it would still display just fine?
  12. After tinkering around with the .lay file for a while, I think I have most of it figured out. One thing I don't understand is this: <view name="Upright_Artwork"> <bounds x="0" y="0" width="4000" height="2960" /> <bezel element="bezel"> <bounds x="0" y="0" width="4000" height="3067" /> </bezel> <screen index="0"> <bounds x="163" y="138" width="3653" height="2480" /> </screen> </view> These numbers are pixel counts, and they are very high. I didn't set these bounds. They are from an existing bezel file and I checked the image to confirm that it was actually the right numbers. Any idea why these images would be so much larger than the pixel count of the screen displaying them?
  13. My playfield is a 42" HD display. Going to look into those .lay files to see if I can decipher them. Thanks for the info!
  14. Turns out its not as simple as it once was. MAME now requires these .lay files. Can't get a bezel to display without it
  15. Thanks @Draco1962! I'm in the process of making a bezel now to test as well
  16. One way is to have two instances of MAME with games split vertical/horizontal and then you can assign one MAME to a different screen. I don't want to do that though. I want everything on the main playscreen @TerryRed did something similar, but instead used a third-party app to change his monitor configuration for each.
  17. I don't know. All I know is that the bezels I downloaded from EmuMovies make the game screen so small, it looks ridiculous on my 42" playfield. If a bezel can fill just the top and bottom without affecting my game screen size, then that would be good
  18. Next problem du jour... blank space on game screens. I have to capture new gameplay videos and most games have a lot blank space. I do not want to use bezels. They make the playfield way too small. I just want a solution to fill the empty top/bottom areas of the screen. Its most pronounced with horizontal games rotated onto a portrait screen orientation. I looked into Rocket Launcher, but its too intimidating to me. I only care about MAME and all of these tools are designed for every system ever created, and their associated configuration needs I appreciate any help!
  19. I found an old version of CPWizard that actually still runs. Turns out it was WAY overkill for what I wanted. So, I decided to use Google Slides to create my images. I created a template of my control panel, and now I can manually edit the text for each game and create static images to display on the DMD. Still some work to do but I think its a serviceable solution
  20. I'm going to mark this as resolved. Thanks again for the help! I can work around any little glitches for now.
  21. Thanks MIke! The modified version works great!
  22. I read through the forum thread and no one seems to be having any problem running the program, but when I run the CreateVideos_settings app I get an error "Cannot find PinballX install directory" and then it quits. It's installed at C:\PinballX
  23. @Mike_da_Spike Awesome! Thanks man! Edit: Is the 3.2 version the latest? Is there any documentation on how to use it? WHen I run the CreateVideos_settings app I get an error "Cannot find PinballX install directory" and then it quits. It's installed at C:\PinballX
  24. Is it possible to put the MAME game info on the DMD? If so, how? I can't move it like I do for VPX Thanks!
  25. I've got a virtual pinball cabinet that I am setting up PinballX and MAME on. I downloaded all of the available video snaps for my MAME ROMs from EmuMovies.com. The videos for the vertical games play fine, but the horizontal game videos are rotated the wrong way. I am not using any special rotation on the displays via WIndows. I use PinballX to rotate the display 270 degrees. This seems to work just fine for the vertical videos, but not the horizontal. I don't really understand why. I would assumed it would play with letterboxing. If I play the videos directly from the desktop, they all play as expected. If I change the rotation in PinballX to HORIZONTAL, the horizontal videos play as expected, but all of the vertical videos are now rotated the wrong way. I really don't want to record game videos. Is there any way to dynically rotate the videos so they all play correctly? I've attached several photos, The desktop.jpg shows my Windows display orientation in the pin cabinet. The vert.jpg shows vertical video playing. The horiz.jpg shows the wrong rotation of the horizontal video. The final picture shows how switching PinballX to HORIZONTAL rotation fixes horizontal videos. I appreciate any help!
