  1. my2cents: Use either the Artwork Downloader that comes with GameEx and/or use the built in downloader that you can activate in the GameEx wizard itself, either way they both use Emumovies and will name your artwork accordingly. I repeat both services use Emumovies anyway. /my2cents EDIT: I re-read and see that you bought some vids off ebay, as long as the sale was kosher, here is my advice: find an app called Skinny Match on these forums, it will rename your artwork (vids) to match your roms
  2. Hi, were you replying to my post? I'm confuzzled If you were, i wasn't referring to actually renaming your artwork - GameEx has an option to use the best match it can find when it comes to artwork. So for instance you have a rom named game1, but no exact artwork match, if you turn the option on GameEx will use artwork that is close to game1 instead (like game1 (japan) for instance)
  3. Yes Sir, thank you! We have decided to call ourselves "Blind Siders" with no particular reason at all
  4. Hi repetto, Thought i would just jump in and throw an idea out there (it's kind of my thing ) but have you tried fuzzy matching with the troublesome emulators? I forget precisely the setting in GameEx but there is an option to roughly match the names of snaps/vids etc which may be useful in this situation, if i'm understanding the problem correctly that is This is what i'm understanding of the situation: You setup an emulator prior to your current problem. GameEx then downloaded and named your artwork/vids in this manor: game1 (Japan), game1 (USA), game1 (EU) etc. Now you have merged the list so instead you have just game1 (instead of game1 (Japan) etc) As there is no artwork named game1, it is not displayed, only when in sub menu and the artwork matches again (because in sub menu you see game1 (Japan), game1 (USA) etc) Is that about the gist of it? If so fuzzy matching may help. If you want to try it and can't find the setting then holla back and i'll check it out for you.
  5. Something i must say is that Adultery made me a better man and i think you'd all agree that we'd get a lil lonely if it weren't for some Adultery here n there Have a goodun matey!
  6. Go to Emulator Setup (not Emulator Selection) in the Setup Wizard, choose an empty slot from the Select Emulator drop-down menu, change Enabled to Yes then fill out all your paths and the command line Krakerman posted above, et voila
  7. Hi folks, Steam are giving away L4D2 for free - just for today! So make sure you install it today and you will own it forever - for nothing! If any of you haven't played L4D2 then i urge you to give it a try! It really is an awesome game, especially played co-op with 3 buddies. Some of you may have watched a vid and thought "pfft its just another zombie game" but zombie survival horror this is not - zombie genocide is what it is and on a big scale! Imagine hundreds of zombies, sprinting at you all at once while you and your buddies mow them all down with a chainsaw, katana, sub machine gun and a shotty or maybe a golf club accompanied by a fully automatic sniper rifle? Whatever your fancy it has to be played to be fully appreciated and no vid you watch will do it justice And of course with the PC version you have access to literally thousands of mods, including a personal fave: The Homer Simpson Chainsaw! So you may aswell try it at least - it's FREE! the link again: http://store.steampowered.com/app/550/?snr=1_7_15__13 EDIT: just a quick note, it must be launched at least once before end of offer in order to keep it for free
  8. My early memories of gaming are very different from yours That being said an emulator doesn't need to have an explicit setup to work in GE - that's one of it's major plus points if it can be run/provoked using the command line it will work in GE mostly Merry Christmas to you!
  9. Merry Christmas to y'all, no sentiments intended, enjoy yo'self y'hear! *tips hat, "chinks" glass, trips over thyself, *hic* ...and a happysh newf...* ...
  10. When making any changes to your MAME setup you need to update your game list afterwards. To do this go into MAME within GameEX, scroll to bottom and Update List should be there. If you don't see Update List anywhere then make sure it is not disabled In the Setup Wizard - go to Enable/Disable Features and make sure Hide Update List = no, reload GameEx and try again
  11. Hmmm this is curious, one thing that's ringing bells for me is that you mentioned a "users" folder in your GameEx directory? I do not have such a folder which makes me wonder if you have GameEx installed for more than one user. This could certainly be a viable reason for inconsistencies between your machines. Things might also get messy if say for instance you alter a background for one user but not the other, then alter a different background for the second user and not the 1st etc. Unfortunately my experience with multiple user accounts, or how GE works with such a setup is zero I only ever have one user on my machines, i am after all, the only one allowed to tinker with it in any shape or form
  12. Absolutely, also i wouldn't discount the advice i gave you on a previous thread regarding cache files
  13. I've only just (in the last 5-6 weeks) upgraded from XP! I know that is way too slow off the mark but i'm not kidding when i mention how broke i am hehe. Also, i've been a linux user for a few years now and you can do many fantastical things with it - if you are willing to learn so i naturally got way behind on windows. TBH the only reason i kept a windows partition was for gaming, but as the 2014 deadline is nearing, and the fact that over 50% of game developers now require DX10 or above i thought i better get my act together heheh (until SteamOS gets released of course and rules you all muahahahahaaaa)
  14. Yeah that certainly is what i had in my head! Do you have any advice on how to partition my drives? I'll be honest and admit i've never had more than 2 at once in my case as there used to be a hard limit on how many partitions you could have. I gather such limits by now have been eliminated? -EDIT- i should probably give some insight to my experience - the most ive had at once was this 1tb split in 2, and a 500GB WD (now dead) used as a linux drive with last 4GB allocated as swap
  15. I think you smacked the nail into the noggin there Han. Most Windows users who tweak their system have at some point installed some stubborn codecs, that result in a complete OS re-install which is a PITA in anyones book. So naturally anyone with such an experience will be hesitant to take our advice on Sharks (or any for that matter) codecs. Hell i was, even after Tom himself pointed me toward them. Unfortunately, until there is some sort of video Utopia created where all OS's enjoy all vids with no intervention then we will have to rely on charisma and hard facts to persuade people to listen to us. In this case it was a win so i'll raise a glass to +1 who now knows that we don't recommend stuff unless we are sure it works
  16. Noted! my plan is (finances pending) to use my current 1tb barracuda as my steam drive, the new SSD as boot+major apps and a future 2tb to house all my emulation stuff. Does that sound ok to you guys? Any tips/warnings/things i might have overlooked?
  17. Put your hands in the air Wesley!

  18. Hi Beaps, would you mind uploading your GameEx.ini and Log as requested by KRC. This will ensure we can give you the best possible advice for your particular setup and will take a lot of guesswork out of the equation. Otherwise we'll just be trying to thread a needle in the dark Follow THIS GUIDE for the required files and once you have them you can hit "More Reply Options" in bottom right of reply box to attach them to your post. Thanks!
  19. Thanks for the tips guys much appreciated! And especially thanks to null for the SorageSearch link - wow what an informative read! So i guess the basic rule is to set it up correctly at the start and i should get years of service from it. I couldn't shake that uneasy feeling before because of the reputation SSD's had a few years ago but you guys have changed my mind Thanks again all!
  20. Agreed! And if you are particularly set on a theme you've seen or tried and it doesn't have a 4:3 version, you could always have a stab at converting it to 4:3 yourself That's the great thing about GameEx, you get all the tools needed to make it your own
  21. Unfortunately themes will in most cases scale down badly when forced to a ratio they were not designed for. The reasons are a bit technical but if you could try to imagine forcing a rectangular object through a square hole It can be done but only if you squash the rectangle into shape. Essentially when trying to display a 16:9 theme using a 4:3 monitor that is what you are doing, but most importantly it is doing it to individual elements of the theme rather than as a whole and can result in some bizarre looking layouts. The general rule is to use themes that were designed to your monitor/screen aspect ratio as they will scale down much cleaner I would also recommend going true fullscreen to make sure you are seeing the theme as it is intended.
  22. I can't answer your questions on multiple pads as i only have one but as to #3: Yes, provided you have codecs installed GE will play vids instead of displaying static snaps if you have them. Just set the path to your vids in the relevant emulators section in the setup wizard, just like you do with snaps. If a vid is unavailable for a certain game it will display the snap instead (provided you have it).
  23. Well, if we are going there then i shall name mine (once completed) Cronos. GRRRRRRRR in actual fact though it will probably more like a Percy Jackson but meh
  24. Thanks for the links null, i had no idea it was that easy So i think you outlined basically what most people say in that SSD's are worth it for the response/load times etc and i get that. If i were to go ahead i would run it the same as you - with the programs themselves on the SSD and everything else on the HDD. The thing i'm most concerned with though is the durability of SSD's. They are new and i can't shake this feeling that in a few months of hard use it will be useless. Unjustified i'm sure but as i said it's not often i get this kind of opportunity. How long have you had yours null? And how would it compare to this one that i'm considering as a boot drive? Would you recommend something else or say "take the cow by its udders" and just go for it? -EDIT- yes, but KRC you have a monster of a rig if i recall! Correct?
  25. To avoid any confusion, nullPointer means to put "pause" at the end of the runitgame.bat file itself, not as a command line parameter. To do this right-click runitgame.bat and choose edit. Choose Notepad if it gives you an option and make a new line at the end, containing "pause". Save and exit, then run runitgame.bat
