Magic Engine- Boots to Magic Engine menu instead of game
DazzleHP replied to TheRuralJuror's topic in General
Adultery is right, i needed the confirmation to prove what my memory was telling me. In that Magic Engine won't let you bypass the GUI unless you purchase it. I don't have it installed atm but i remember purchasing it just to get command line support. Once you do though things become a breeze IIRC. Magic Engine is a great emu indeed and if it meant something to you in the past i would say it is worth the money! However, as nullPointer mentioned - mednafen is an astonishing emulator, not just for the TG-16/Super but for many systems. It does have a difficult learning curve though - in that i mean you need to alter text and config files manually and be comfortable with it. If you are not too tech savvy, and the TurboGrafx holds a place in your heart then it is worth the money - buy it. If it holds that place but you are willing to learn how to use and configure a program without a GUI and altering its base-files, go mednafen.- 6 replies

We have a battle of the Titans going on there! Both of their apps are extremely useful though so get to know them if you are going to look into creating your own .map's To answer your question though, and to make it fool-proof, just give your games the full year-date in the map file. It may not be 100% authentic but will certainly display them in order. For instance: King of Fighters 1994 King of Fighters 1995 King of Fighters 1996 King of Fighters 2000 etc. Or if you want to retain the original titles then may be put the year first in brackets for example: [1994] - King of Fighters '94 [1995] - King of Fighters '95 [1996] - King of Fighters '96 [2000] - King of Fighters 2000 etc. There may be a few times when this situation arises (especially if you are a "collector") and sometimes the best answer is a compromise.

Perfect! Cheers for the assistance! Unfortunately i couldn't really give this one a decent shot due to unforeseen circumstances. Reminds me of Kamui! BADLY! But then Siter Skain drew his influences from this (well RayStorm). I would have liked a bit more time on this one due to how much i love Kamui, and infact emplore anyone who enjoyed Gunlock to check out not just Kamui, but the Siter Skain trilogy. They are brilliant pieces of work, lovingly crafted and have a familiarity that draws you in, with enough twists n tweaks to make you want to master them. To the remaining contestants, i wish you the best of luck - it has been a lot of fun and hope we can all do it again soon. ~Daz

This for me is worth the license fee alone! To be able to organize your whole menu system, how you want with such ease! I couldn't personally live without it. I even wrote a simple guide. But then i am also a bit biased Bottom line is there are many obvious reasons to purchase a license, and many subtle ones that will become prevalent once you have used it for a while (registered or not). Many regular updates! I've used 100's of software in my time, none match the frequency of updates that GameEx has (which doesn't cost you, the user), bugfixes that usually come so fast, most people aren't even aware of them existing in the first place, and Tom, the actual Author of GameEx always being present and active on the forum - I literally dare you to name any similar software that matches that kind of service! These alone deserve a purchase IMO without all the extra magic you get with a license That is all just of course my own opinion You are free to make your own choice.

Introducing your forum moderators
DazzleHP replied to Draco1962's topic in GameEx Hi-Score Competition
Thanks all involved in coming to this decision. I'm honored to be part of the HS team! I don't think any of us realised just how popular the HS Comp would be - and it's great to see it doing so well! However i felt that it had become just ever so slightly too large for 2 people to manage without a bit of pressure being felt by any party, and so offered myself as an extra layer of support. The HS Comp is and was always about having fun and for that reason i would hate for it to become a chore or burden to anyone involved and so hope to lighten the load a little bit in times when things get a lil crazy I'll probably just be a silent helper of sorts but nonetheless am proud to help out if i can Thanks again all! ~Darren -
Tempest is right, AcidBrain is a very old theme. Try Default - Default, or Default - Media Center. I just tried the YT section and it found my own vids so it definitely works. After you have entered your search term, you may need to use the "Menu Bar" to switch the search focus. When i say Menu Bar i mean the bar that usually houses "By Category, By Year" etc when using GameEx normally. AFTER you enter a search term, this (menu) will change to "Search Games, Search Media, Search Music, Search YouTube" Click that and you should get to where you want to be

I'm a day late on this but just wanted to give some respect. To come up with a solution in your head, and be confident enough to not even test it on your own system - that's the mark of a brilliant mind ladies n gents. Bravo man! (not that it needed any clarification!)

This, and the possibilty of having achievements is just amazing! Now imagine in GameEx, hitting that middle button and pops a dashboard with a that save/load menu, GE friend list and your score/achievements for the game you're currently playing. That would be so epic that all the epic of the world would have be used up to describe it! Don't beat me down i'm allowed to dream!

I'm with the majority i think in that i used No-Intro as my "base" sets of which i created my own cleansets where i have 1 rom per game period. I don't need or care for complete sets - i just want a nice compact set to play with. I haven't updated my cart based collection in a very long time. As you've realised, trying to maintain multiple complete sets is a PITA and that's a pain i can do without The only set i update semi-regularly is MAME - even then i tend to skip 2-3 (whole) versions as with MAME i also create my own sets coz i refuse to harbor 22,000+ roms that will never EVER get used on my system. I'm looking at you fruit machines and pals *hiss* I guess it all depends on why you are into emulation - some are collectors/completionists who probably hardly load an emu, others for playing them (like me) who just want a nice clean collection. Either way IMO No-Intro sets are probably the best whichever your needs are. So good luck maintaining them 52 sets man! Rather you than me TRUEDAT!

No chance! I'm a casual retro gamer I love em - they bring back fond memories. But that is far as it goes for me I'm certainly never gonna beat anyone from shmups.org - clue's in the title

Did you upgrade from a DX9 GPU to a DX10/11 by any chance? I did just a couple of months ago and experienced major crashes on lots of 3d/GPU intensive programs. I fixed it by first removing all GPU drivers. It's important to remove them first. If you can, use third party software to remove all traces. THEN install the drivers for your respective GPU.

The fact that there might be two cmd windows open at the same time might be causing problems. Even if you explicitly tell GameEx to wait for it (cmd.exe) - how does it know which (command window) is which? I'm of course just re-wording Tempest's enlightening post above. It makes a lot of sense though.

Great share man! I love how the Anchor/Newsreader/Narrator wasn't convinced at first and had no conviction at all, then he was like "me and ma bihatchi pwned dat shizzle till dawn yo! wut." Brilliant viewing man and it took it all back for me. +1

Way to keep us on our toes man! That makes you 1st correct? Nice.

That is a good idea, and probably would've helped Dennis from the outset! If it was made a rule from the start i would've followed it or did i miss it?? A lesson for the next tourney maybe EDIT - just to sway myself to keep trying: 2,262,370
