Hey Riffman! I'm sure you remember how it was when you first tried GameEx - a million questions but didn't know where to start asking? Believe it or not we all went through that at some point! You wanted, I'm sure, a definitve guide on all things GameEx. Unfortunately it didn't exist did it (i know coz i went through the same!). Thing is, a product like GE wouldn't exist if the devs weren't focused like animals on pure programming instinct like Tom and crew are. This is where i think guys like us come into play. If you can help a newbie just a iddy widdy bit, and you have a lot already documented i say go for it man! By doing so you'll maybe help a newcomer to spend more time with GE, they will inevitably purchase a license (who wouldn't?!) which in turn will, maybe, inspire certain devs to make an even better version *ahem, cough - evolution, cough*! Right? The butterfly effect You may want to check out this post by Draco a while back that i think got missed

Welcome! I recognize your name from somewhere - probably racketboy as you mentioned. I never posted but was a lurker for quite a while Good to have you on board and nice score!

Haha why do i get the feeling Dracs ain't talkin bout the picture-taking kind of "selfie"?!

You could try changing the Pause button in MAME itself: > Load any game > Hit TAB to bring up the MAME menu > Input General >User Interface. Pasue is the fourth option down (in .152, yours may be a bit lower). Change that to a key of your choosing that doesn't obviously conflict with any of your main buttons, then setup the key on one of your other Shift-buttons.

It will probably be slightly different depending on OS but on W7 for example, right-click the .exe, choose Properties, switch to Compatibility tab, and check the box "Run this program as an Administrator" (down the very bottom).
-
Sorry for that *.exe mistake - i had a brain hiccup Glad you're all sorted!
-
Hi, and welcome! GameEx comes with some "dummie" roms to give you an idea of how it looks and functions with a basic setup. They have no other function than for demo purposes. You'll have to populate the rom directories with your own files in order to actually launch/play them
-
Try, (in Setup Wizard) Advanced Emulator Setup >Scan Sub Folders = Yes EDIT - Also you might want to add *.exe to RomFilter

Man do i SUCK at this lol I wish i had read Stephen's tips before i loaded this! Oh well at least i know next time i try. Like Han i only played the the Atari 2600 version as a kid and it does seem a lot faster! Still enjoyed it though I will be back! 24,550

Unfortunately i'm not clued up on the in's n out's of Adultery's magic, so you'll have to converse with the man himself on this. He is considerate and fair though Go now, and beg for mercy! I'm joking of course he wants as many bugs on the bottom of his shoe as the rest of us. EDIT - and he ninja's me again! *bows, exits, disappears*

Yeah now that you mention it i see them! I'm trying to get some perspective using the basketball That's quite the cab you've got there! Don't see many 4player cabs bravo man. Using the basketball as reference you might be able to fit a cheap 7" tablet directly below your main screen? I dunno how easy it is to get a tab working as a second monitor - i've never tried it hehehe but i'm sure there'll be a way Of course you could always just be a bit "industrial" and plonk any ol screen on top of your cab, wires n all

To get the HiScore feed, load your theme in the Theme Editor. Go to (at the top) Edit >Scroller... and choose either MAME or MAME Select (or both) and paste the feed url in the left pane. Click OK then File >Save. I'm assuming at this point you know how themes work and so have the scroller positioned in a nice place For the Snapper (i love this plugin!) put the .dll in ...\GameEx\PLUGINS then load the Plugin Manager (in Start >GameEx >Plugin Manager), check the box to enable it, select it then click configure EDIT - SCREEN - Could you fit a tiny one in the lower left of the marquee?? it would have to be quite small though

Welcome to the team! I'm gonna hug ya and kiss ya, pat ya and kiss ya and hug ya... Just joking guys! I'm not that cruel Congratulations - it's good to have you aboard!

That's exactly it null! So Han, say you played an arcade game when you were a kid, for me that was 20+ years ago so my memory is pretty much useless. I have no idea what that game was but i want to play it so bad! I know i have it, coz i have a full mame set but the likeliness of finding said game (within 28k plus roms) with no idea of what it was called is, well dire! That's where MAWS came in. You could go on and enter criteria - such as: one player; 2 buttons; beat em up etc and it would give you results (including screenshots) based on what you entered There was nothing like it and i'm so glad someone felt passionate enough to take it on!

It's a bit tricky to see your setup from the one photo, but if i were in the same situation i would use the nearest fan to your cpu as exhaust, you want to get the heat out of there as quick as possible, and use whichever is pointing toward an open area as the intake. Above all you should aim for a "quick" air flow, in other words the most efficient way to get air in, and back out again as quick as possible. Believe it or not i've seen setups where basically they've created a convection oven! Blowing heat around and essentialy cooking hardware lol A good rule of thumb (i think) is to use the nearest fans to your cpu as exhaust, and try to situate other fans totally opposite (as you can get) as intake

Cheeky lil game this one! I remember playing this when i was maybe 8-10 years old (memory is fuzzy) i enjoyed it then too. It was one of a few games my Dad dared to take me on and i always beat him He would always say "well done" but i could see him biting his lip in anger lol One of the reasons i like this game, and it was the same when i was a kid, is that you have to fight the urge to run away! You gotta turn and fight to survive. Thanks for re-introducing me to this fellas! I'll give it some more time soon no doubt. For now though: 70,200

I have absolutely no enthusiasm for this game lol Never played this or Gradius in the arcade - i played Gradius for 2 minutes on a friends NES i think, maybe it was a MasterSystem who knows, either way i instantly disliked it and i still do Don't matter what tactics i try (even if i copy the demo guy!) that dam volcano gets me *sigh* ONCE i got past the past the volcano and got this: 55,500 i'm done with this now

Yeah that's what i'm thinking. I'm wondering if anyone else is having the same thing with .152. I'll be honest i never would have noticed if it wasn't in the HS Comp heheh. I was thinking about making a thread to see if anyone esle is experiencing this, but without a solution it seems a bit pointless. We could end up with a Shinobi panic on our hands I'm ready to accept it's just a .152 thing now and it doesn't harm the HiScore list in any way so that'll be that. As usual thanks for your awesome work and helping us keep all things high-scorey automated! Much appreciated

IKR! I have just the defaults in most settings, all i have setup is working path, rom path (only one, and only one set exists) and custom list folder. This was only meant to be a temp install till i get my new mobo. It's a full .152 romset and i've not altered it in any way. Imma go look see if i'm the only one in the world with this anomaly
