  1. I appreciate the feedback and the PS editing tips - really helped me to polish the Steel! ;)

  2. Personally, I prefer to make my own "eye candy" to having it out of the box created for me and a pain to have to modify. I like the support and thought you give to this frontend and the enthusiasm the members have for it. I would surely hate to have to register for another product to get mediocre or no support!
  3. Recoil - I will respond to each section as best that I can and encourage corrections or addendums from the forum members. Instead of white text for items (Emulated Games; Multimedia; Exit & Shutdown; etc...) I would like it to display custom icons instead. Currently I am using the Carbon and Steel theme and I think it could visually benefit from having an option like this, as well as some of the other themes that try to coordinate items. Then instead of seeing the white text and an icon beside it, it could show an item that is in the currently selected icon. Within Theme Editor, you can change the font color, in addition to the font you most prefer. GameEx does support tool bars in Version 3 themes and earlier for Home, Exit, Media Bar, etc. but does not support using a graphic or icon to replace the items you mention - personally, I would like to see the menu bar option return and custom icons to replace or augment the text lists. <-- Enhancement Request Second, "Change View" is limited and doesn't display things how I want. I know I can use the theme editor to move the image boxes around, but I'd like to pick which boxes that I see. Instead of having snap pics to display for the games list (which is better than white text) allow it to display the box shots instead. I know I can just change the directory in the settings, but then I'd be looking at snaps when I select the box shot, and box shot when I select the snaps to view. I am not sure that I am following you on the last part, but if you only want the box art to show, you can change the path to point to the box art, cartridge art, etc. to the exclusion of the snaps/videos. You can also chose to have only one image box (would require modifying the theme foreground and/or background images to fit your requirements). I have seen this in some themes where only a list or snaps view shows for the list box and a single image space to accomodate snaps/videos or whatever the author has decided should be displayed. You may want to take a look at the Donkey Kong theme Headkaze created for an example of this. Third, taking off the line of options that "Change View" shows up in. I like Gameex but I am really working with trying to get this running for my son who has autism and doesn't listen. I'd like to be able to take this part off as well so he is unable to change the view. I have found out how to take everything else off that I do not want him messing with, just not this. Unfortunately, Change View is not removable. I think this would also be a worthwhile option in the Configuration as this will prevent the children or one's overly-curious friends from accidentally hitting the wrong option and buggering up the current display. <--Enhancement Request
  4. In either the Setup Wizard or Advanced Configuration, go to Advanced MAME settings and make sure that Show Multiplay Games and Show 4 PLAYER Games are set to Yes.
  5. I have the file and have extracted it - now, where do I go to set the path? (please be gentle, it has been one of those days already....) .:. EDIT - OK, I found the setting and was able to set my path... d'Oh!
  6. From the original location I was averaging between 210-236 kb/s. On the new server averaging about 925-936 kb/s. Initially received "Unable to download 3dModels.7z from spesoft.net. The connection with the server was reset." error prompt. Restarted the download again - maintained speed around 885-920 kb/s and I was *almost* able to complete the download (got down to the last MB and 1 second remaining for almost 5 mins before I cancelled). One thing that I noticed that was different on my last 2 attempts was that the size of the file to be downloaded was shown. It showed as unknown previously and there was no time estimate given, just the amount opened Similarly, I tried downloading Video Logos (By Carl) file (131,257.44 kbs) and ran into the same problem that I ran into with the 3D models. I had downloaded the same file this weekend without a problem so I am not sure what has changed if anything on my end or yours as I haven't encountered any problems .:.EDIT - Ok, now for some system freakiness. I just tried again, and the 287MB file just went to saved complete! <Insert sound of head pounding against desk and screams of "I give up!"> .:EDIT #2 - I cleared out the cache, restarted the PC, started the downloads again, one from the themes and media section - shows Not known and rate well below that of other server.
  7. Yup. Disabled AV/AM software, cleared cache. Tried in IE8 without add-ons. Once when saving to a different directory received server timeout prompt and had to restart the download.
  8. A bit confuzzled as others were able to download with no apparent problems. I can get as far as 138 MB via Firefox and 184MB via IE8, but no further. I tried the DownthemAll tool plugin for Firefox and it stops at about 70MB thendisplays a timeout. I have downloaded larger files than this (but not nearly often enough to be throttled by my ISP).
  9. Anything in the 16:10 monitor resolution family would be good. This makes it possible to scale to resolutions within. I tend to go for 1680 x 1050 (since that is the native resolution for my widescreen monitor). I have seen more members asking for more widescreen and hi-def themes for better viewing in htpc setups.
  10. Hi Tom, so far everything looks great! I am having an issue, however, with downloading the 3D Models (it's a HUGE file). Is there an issue with the file due to the size or with the bandwidth on the server itself? Thanks again!
  11. Hey - glad the codec pack worked for you! Would you mind uploading your theme to share with us at http://www.gameex.net through the Themes link? The peek you gave looks nice!
  12. Kiwi - From the description of the GPU, I assume this is a much older mobo (say around Win2k, 2002-2003)? Likely you are correct an an older GameEx version may be preferable, but I suspect that even with DirectDraw instead of D3D you may still have some issues. Can you provide us with more system info (OS Version & Build/Service Pack), CPU, RAM, etc.? What resolution are you running? Do you have resizing disabled? If you can provide some more details about how you have GameEx configured to handle Display and error log may be helpful.
  13. I have added a few more alternate logo files for PC Games, Not Played, Horizontal, Light Gun, Vertical, Vector, Theme Changer, Spinner, Trackball, Multiplayer here.
  14. I am running GameEx on a Windows 7 64-bit PC with the Shark Codec Pack and x64 Components Pack. I have had few problems if any with these where as I experienced a few issues with FFDShow (not sure if it is still supported or not). When you say custom WAV files do you mean you are using custom files to replace the IntroSound, exitscreensaver, Launch, Select, etc? Or are you attempting to use with custom emu backgrounds? If the former, I have been able to replace the default wav files with those of my own with no issues.
  15. I found a forum that may have addressed the issues you were experiencing with Win 7 and your Philips Remote here should you decide to give 7 a try again.
  16. As with any data, make a backup before you delete anything. I just deleted my cached files and had no problem and brought GameEx online and was able to get into my games without a problem. The cache will rebuild itself. The purpose of a cache is to load a copy of frequently used files for rapid reuse instead of having to load the file from its original source location. This occurs in Internet Explorer and Firefox. Occasionally, a cached web page (also known as a temporary internet file in IE-speak) will not get overwritten completely when a new page is present at a website you visit. This can result in the familiar "Page cannot be displayed" errors, being kicked back to a logon prompt, etc. When you clear the browser cache, you are forcing the browser to reload a fresh copy of the web page from its source - the new page will be written to the browser cache. The same concept applies to GameEx (and other programs as well). You are not deleting anything that is "mission critical" to your setup. Your ROMs, snaps, artwork, etc. will all be where you placed them.
  17. Have you tried restarting your PC? If that doesn't work, you can clear the GameEx cached files (look in C:\GameEx\Data).
  18. Could it be a co-mingled (or co-mangled) ini file?
  19. You may want to reinstall GameEx and, if that does not resolve the issue, then .net framework. Tom and the guys are very knowledgeable and won't steer you wrong. Additionally, I am running GameEx on a Windows 7 64-bit PC with the Shark Codec Pack and x64 Components Pack. If you are new to emulators and frontends, you may want to try tackling one emulator at a time until you get your "emu legs" steady. MameUI32 or MameUI64 (if running 64-bit Windows) are a good place to start. It is easy to get overwhelmed trying to master them all at one time. You are in good hands with the members of this forum! Cheers!
  20. The first thought that comes to mind is to setup the emulator twice in the emulator list. You can then have it installed on two distinct paths (i.e. C:\emulators\CPS1\FB Alpha\...) with the ROMs under the ROMs directory for the CPS1 and 2 games respectively and the same for any snaps, etc. Another option, although I am not sure if it would work, but worth a shot, is to have one emulator path, but ROMs, snaps, etc under a different path (say C:\emulators\FB Alpha\CPS1ROMS..., C:\emulators\FB Alpha\CPS1Snaps... C:\emulators\FB Alpha\CPS2ROMS..., C:\emulators\FB Alpha\CPS2Snaps... ). Either way, GameEx will be launching the emulators usig the paths you define within it for the ROMs, Snaps, Video Snaps, Artwork, etc. As for having the emus on the start page, I am not certain you can do it that way but I can't speak to that from experience.
  21. Hi - I just "googled about" and found some additional references to your stick and Mame: http://www.gameex.in...t=0entry59536 http://shoryuken.com...pc-mame-213441/ http://shoryuken.com...-driver-177309/ It seems that there are some that are able to use it but not without some trickery. In order for members in this forum that have used the same stick, it may be helpful to let them know a few things - What OS you are using? - What version of MAME are you using? - Are you attempting to use it through a Front End (GameEx, Hyperspin, Mala, Mamewah)? - Have you attempted it using a game stick mapper (Xpadder, Joy-to-Key, etc.)? Hope this helps guide you a bit so that the community can lend a hand if possible. We have a great bunch here with lots of experience.
  22. HK - I like what ya did with that theme! Very appropriate for a retro cab, yet HTPC friendly.
  23. I, too, am running on WIndows 7 Pro 64-bit. I will answer the questions you posted as best as I can: 1-a. Does Instant Sheller works well on it ? b. What Instant Sheller Hides on it ? I believe it should work the same - I have not tried it yet since I use this as my desktop PC and not dedicated HTPC/Retrogaming rig. 2-a. Does GameEx works good on it ? Yes b. It has a better performance on Windows 7 or Windows XP ? On high-end systems, IMO much better with 7 than XP. 3- DirectX 10 (Native on Windows 7) will make GameEx better? Same as 2-b. 4- Any tip about problematic emulators ? I have yet to run into any quirks or problems that stand out as a Windows 7 specific issue with any of the emulators as of yet. 5- Should I move to MAME 64 Bits ? (I have MAME optimized for Core 2 Duo - 32 Bits) Either should run just fine. I am running MameUI64 and see little difference. I prefer to run builds for 64-bit whenever possible. I am sure others will chime in with their recommendations. I know that we had several threads going not very long ago regarding user configurations and favorite emus and there are a few that are pinned. Once I get everything setup as I like it I may add a link to my sig or profile listing the PC config, FE, themes, and emus setup - along with versions - for quick reference.
  24. I think we have more talent contributing to GameEx than Hyperspin. that is not saying that they have none. It is one heck of a program and has come a long way in a short period of time. It just seems to be a bit much to have to learn and tweek - not use out of the box friendly. I like some of the Mamewah and MaLa themes although I have not tinkered with either FE yet. I have tried the Maximus Arcade demo and it seems to hold some promise. I am concerned by some of the posts on their site about support and other issues and I am a bit hesitant to go beyond and put down any $$ for something that may be on its way out. I know things happen, people have the best intentions, but life gets in the way and you have to let go as your priorities become realigned, so no ill will intended by this observation. I like this community that GameEx has forged in support of one fine feat of programming. I like that I can pretty much modify things on the fly and quickly churn out a theme to share (although when I look back, there may be one or two that I wish I hadn't ). I appreciate the assistance and feedback from the community; being able to pick the guru's brains (not their noses, because that is just gross) for details I may be missing and bouncing ideas about some of the friends I have made here. Ok, that's it for now. I am not sure if Krakerman has a good enough voice to start us on a round of Kumbaya..
  25. Not sure if it will help but have you tried clearing out the cache? I have 11.09 installed now and still see my volume bars when I adjust it.
