  1. Definitely appears to be video driver related. Make sure you have the latest for your video card. If you have the latest and still an issue, try reverting to an older driver. Would help to know what video card you are using.
  2. Thanks, Tom! The Y coordinate issue on the Menu Bar seems to be resolved... any chance you might be working on the X coordrinate issue for the next update?
  3. What resolutions are compatible with your monitor? I think if you could run it at, say 1280x720, that would get you a 16:9 resolution and closer to the 16:10 that the original was made - hence much less distortion and shifting of elements.
  4. Can't say that I have had any issues with mine, either. Would probably have to ask to see the selector image being used, get dimensions, etc. to try to figure out why it isn't centering on the text.
  5. For issue 1 - the answer is yes. If I am running a 1920x1200 theme on a 1650x1080 resolution screen, then no issue as it will scale properly as they fall within the same aspect ratio of 16:10 whereas the resolution you are running at does not fit into the usual 4:3 ratio found on most older CRTs.
  6. I am using it now while working on my themes. I have only ever used my own themes (not that some that are stock or user submitted themes aren't good, but I needed a motivator to learn how to make my own). So who was the lamer that only rated this 2 topic stars? If I was allowed to rate it it would be 5 stars all the way!
  7. Work on the Arcade games that have not worked in the past, don't add a bunch of mechanical or other stuff that is borderline arcade related IMHO. We already have MESS vying to be the "one ring that rules them all" for the consoles and handhelds. Do we really need MAME heading in the same direction?
  8. Why are they adding them along with the pinball machines? Makes no sense to me at all.
  9. Very good app to have. I also like the export to Excel feature so that I can build my overall collection by Emu and target specific deficiencies.
  10. Again, I know our requests may not always make sense or seem logical (wouldn't it just be fantastic if the world worked that way? ) , but we do not always have the leisure of explaining up front why we need what we are requesting. If we did, we would spend more time explaining than researching/resolving the issues. All we are asking is meet us half-way. We are usually pretty good about explaining our findings and the resolution or workaround that is required. Also try to keep in mind that the engine behind the theme editor is quite a few versions old and, I think we can agree that it is in need of an overhaul (which Ben and Tom are working on as much as is possible). We understand your POV, we live it, got the t-shirt to prove we have been there more than once.
  11. Actually they can tell quite a bit, especially in light of no theme.ini or other details to piece together with your description. Usually, when someone asks for help, it is proper to respond with what is asked for so that we can be of help as quickly and efficiently as possible. Considering that this is a hobby for most of us that provide support, up to and including Tom, we haven't much time to try to "imagine" what everyone is describing. Your helping us to help you goes a long way.
  12. Tom - While you are looking at Necromancyr's Menu Bar issue, would you mind taking a look at this one as well? I believe that they may be part of the same issue. In my opinion, it deserves a look as it is very limiting to the designs that can be implemented. I have several themes that are dependent upon a fix for this... Thanks!

May give it a try eventually. Trying to get what I already have setup and working the way I exepct it to.
  14. A picture says a thousand words.. I have an idea of what I think you may be talking about but I want to be certain. Would you mind uploading some screen captures?
  15. I look forward to seeing it in action!
  16. Lots of trial and error - with a dash of fixes and upgrades here and there. Mix together well in a bowl of engenuity with a few heaping cups of creativity. Pound into a loaf pan and bake in a pre-heated oven at 350 degrees for 2 weeks and you, too, can create a theme!
  17. I think an emphasis initially of the emu support aspects of GameEx as a stand-alone front end. Additional functional elements added as separate modules (i.e., Karaoke, Music, DVD player, etc.).
  18. In Theme Editor (assuming you are working with a Version 4 theme), look under Edit>Options>Settings Tab> and check Enable Alpha Channel. This will cause GameEx to use alpha channels instead of pure black as a transparency.
  19. A Live CD would be dispersed as a burnable ISO or at a nominal cost for shipping and media (much the same as Ubuntu does now). I think that XBMC would be considered a cross-platform gaming front end when using one of several plug-ins available for launching games. Likely this would require quite a bit of retooling/rethinking how GameEx is handled - Will it be two separate projects due to OS considerations or would a complete retooling be required for cross-platform use? If a separate FE for Linux, what features would be available? Will the focus be primarily on MAME and emulators support? How would developing a Linux version effect continued development on the existing Windows version? I am sure there are a great many other questions that would have to be asked and answered. If dev could be divided under the GameEx umbrella for both with Tom having the ultimate say over the direction of the project I would think it doable. Do I think it is needed? Yes! There are many attempts at emu front-ends that seem to have just died in their infancy, and only the plugins for XBMC and Mythbuntu/MythTV that look polished enough for consideration. As for revenue, I am sure he makes a living doing other things and not from the contributions for the registered version of GameEx. I reviewed the links Rockyrocket provided and not certain that the examples would meet up to the potential for a Linux-GameEx would have to offer.
  20. Maybe based upon Ubuntu (like Mythbuntu) .. could call it GExbuntu, maybe?
  21. Both images look pretty sweet! Are you working on two separate themes?
  22. I think it would be a good solution.. Never thought of the MAP files so that sounds like another good call!
  23. I know this is an old topic, but hopefully not a dead one. I have little to no experience with Linux, but have considered building a box for this very reason. I think that the distributions have come a long way. Ubuntu and Ubuntu Studio are very robust and well supported distro's and seem to have quite a bit of support for graphics and sound. The price is right and installation is free for the OS and it appears to be very scalable for older machines. I know we have a lot going on with the Windows version of GameEx. A Linux version would open us up as a community to a whole new level of users and would only be a plus IMHO.
  24. There is an option for Emulator Groups. Now mind you, I do not use them but there are others that have and can give you their expert guidance. In a nutshell, you will have to have your ROMS divided for the emulators that you want to run them specifically in their own ROM paths. Then, via Setup Wizard, you will set-up the emulators for these ROMs in an Emulator Group. When viewed through GameEx, it will appear as one listing with all the ROMS, regardless of the emulators running each. High Level Example: Emulator 30 Project 64 Rom Path c:\ROMS\Project 64\ROMS (this path would contain ROMS A B C and D) Emulator 31 MESS Rom Path c:\ROMS\MESS\N64 ROMS (this path would contain ROMS W X Y and Z) In the Emulator groups, you will select Emulators 30 and 31 In GameEx, the Game List will display ROMS A B C D W X Y Z I hope this helps!
  25. Go to Start Menu > Program Files > GameEx > Log File .
