@TOM I read one review that suggested there are 2 versions of the episodes on each disk; One using the newly enhanced CGI and one using the original model shots, and you can swap in-and-out on the fly. Is this accurate? Or am I maybe confusing it with the TNG Blurays?

I've wanted to do it for a LONG time, build a Star Trek collection. I've seen all the episodes, own the 2 most recently released movies on BluRay. I recently saw a trailer spot for a new season of TNG being released on BluRay and was completely smitten. The quality of the HD transfer is unbelievable. Apparently they had to go back to the negatives and re-cut each shot, from the lines spoken, to the ILM model shots (recompositing in 21 century computers) and re-mastering the audio in 7.1. TNG was shot on film, but edited on videotape (a la, VHS). So all the quality is gone, thats why they had to go back to the negatives. They started with The Original Series (TOS) first, and actually rendered new shots for all the external ship shots, planets, and matte paintings establishing locations. They aired the TOS episodes, remastered, like ONCE. So I've decided I'm going to purchase these releases, in BluRay, as they were broadcasted. I just ordered the 3 seasons of TOS from Amazon. Right now, and probably not for very long, is the perfect time to buy them. Originally, each season was like $120-ish US currency. Startrek.com is now selling them for $57.99 (down from their discounted $76.99). But right now, Amazon is selling each season for only about $29 each. All 3, with tax, cost me only $97! With each purchase over $35, you get free shipping too, so I should have them at no additional charge by next Monday (4/28/2014) at the latest! There were some negative reviews from people saying their cases were cracked, or some disks didn't work, so hopefully mine will be ok. Anyway, I'm just so excited I had to share the news with everybody! I'm trying to decide if my next purchase should be the TNG season 1 (they're still a bit pricey) or the boxsets of the movies. Do any of you guys have a Star Trek collection?

Not sure how many religious people we have here, or how many Easter Bunny believers we have. But I felt it somebody's duty to wish everybody a Happy Easter none the less. So here's mine.

I wonder if Pod Racer is available over at GOG.com? Might be worth the look to see, if you're inclined to play it again. There's Pod Racer for N64 and PSX (i think) too if you want.

LEADERBOARD Hi-Score Competition
hansolo77 replied to GimmeClassics's topic in GameEx Hi-Score Competition
I just looked at this thread again today. I didn't notice it before, you may have been actively making changes... I don't like the Avatar Icon in the table. Granted, it will help users quickly Identify who they are, but I think it makes the table's ROW to large. Just my opinion. -
Doh! How could I forget Windows 98? I used Windows 98 more than any other OS (even XP). 95 was too old and buggy, ME was too NEW and WAY too buggy, and XP was still in the programming stages. <sigh> I miss the old days. And I'm not THAT young. I'm 33. So what? I don't go back to pre-Atari computer days, but I've had my share of PC-Compatible glory. We were sharing, so I shared. Sorry. Oh and I loved Podracer. I bought a SideWinder Force Feedback 2 for it. The computer shop I go to had it setup as a demo and that was the game they were demo'ing with it. The Force Feedback was awesome. I still have it, though I don't have any games for it, aside from Podracer on a Win98 CD. That's why I'm kinda eager to find out if the latest expansions to "The Old Republic" Star Wars MMO have added true "off-the-rails" space flight so I could drag it out of the closet.

LEADERBOARD Hi-Score Competition

Cool, I still like to give GC the the Leaderboard thread though. It's his puppy. -
Welcome to the Forums! To be honest, I've never heard of pbp. Is it possible to convert it to an ISO?

I'm excited too. I'm just wierd when it comes to change.

I wish I knew how to do programing. Sure, I did my fair share of BASIC like everybody else (stealing and copying word-for-word into the BASIC file). I really wanted to do my own programming though. The problem with basic was that you had to have each line start with a number so it knew what the order was: 10 whatever20 whatever again30 you get the pointWhen I was in High School, they made us all buy a Graphic Calculator. Most kids got a TI-82. But they were sold old so my mom bought me a TI-85. It had a little bit more RAM, was capable of doing things a little faster, had some other functions I didn't need, etc. Of course, all anybody did on them was share games. They were all programmed in a BASIC called TI-BASIC. Everybody just copied games amongst each other, but I made my own. After spending days typing out numerous printed copies of games from the TI FTP Site, I soon learned how to do it all myself. I was churning out all kinds of stuff and EVERYBODY wanted a copy! I thought to myself "This is your Future!". I wanted to learn more. Then there was a new kid in school who had a PC-Link Cable and was able to download something called Z-Shell into his calculator. This was a special hacked kernel that would run Assembly language, and gave things like smoother graphics, multiple math functions on screen at the same time, and even sound (via the link cable port). I wanted to learn how to program for that, but I didn't have the cable to transfer my creations to the calculator for "beta testing". So my programming adventures stopped there. I wanted to learn C#, Perl, etc., but never spent any more time on it. A lot of stuff I've been told is written in Visual Basic, which is probably where I should go next. BASIC is BASIC. Anyway, since we tangent'd off into computer history... I grew up in a household where my dad was a BIG Atari freak. He had 2 Atari 800's (not sure if it was XL, etc). That was where I did all my BASIC learning. Then Dad upgraded to an Atari ST (again, not sure of any XL, etc). Then dad got a hand-me-down 386 PC from a blind guy who needed his house painted. It was his payment for services. At first, all it had was a 5-1/4" Floppy Drive and a 20mb 3-1/2" Hard Drive. Then a few weeks later he got a 3-1/2" Floppy that was in a 5-1/4" Bezel. Then we got a Soundblaster! I installed DOOM on that puppy right away, and even at the smallest window size it CRAWLED! Hehe. Then he got a 2x CD-ROM (read only) drive. This was all still MS-DOS. We didn't get anything with Windows until I found a computer in the dumpster behind a business that went OUT of business. I took it home, cracked it open, "fixed" it, then discovered it was a 486/DX2 with Windows 3.1. Since I found it, it was MIne. But Dad took it upon himself to install a copy of OS/2 on it that the blind guy gave him. I didnt like it, and formated/reinstalled Windows 3.1. Then there was 3.11 (added USB support). I was also given (prior to the 486) a 286 (if you believe it) that a friend of mine found in a dumpster. It didn't work either, but I spent a summer figuring out why and got it running. It had a HUGE (size, not capacity) hard drive in it, and was a POS cash register for McDonalds. I played with the menu for about 10 minutes, ordering a Big Mac and Fries, saying I paid for it with a $5k dollar bill, got my change, and then formated the thing. The monitor was a 4-color CGA, so I didn't do much with it besides put on a bunch of InfoCom's and other Interactive Fiction. I also had an external 9600 baud modem for it that I used to get online with and play MUDs and Chess.com matches. Shortly after all this, the computer industry started booming, cranking out stuff faster and faster. Windows 95 came, then ME, then XP. It's been a short ride getting here. I can't wait to see what's still to come. We'll all look back probably and be like "Windows XP?! Man that's archaic!"

Meh, it'll get here when it gets here. I'm anxious, but not like overly excited about it. I have a distinct dislike of the idea of having to EVOLVE my current setup. It took me a LONG time to get it set the way I like it. I believe the new version was said to be capable of running side-by-side with current setups, so I can work on getting Evo setup without losing my current configuration.

Coolness!

GameEx at chuch not sure how God would feel about that On topic though, I'm not sure you can link Model 3 in emulation. I've never tried though. What emulator are you trying to use? I can only provide you soft support here. I do not currently emulate Model 3 on my system (insufficient power). The best I have is Model 2, Atomiswave and Naomi. If it works outside of GameEx, configuring GameEx to work with it is a snap. But if your primary goal is to establish a LINK type game, you'll have to get more into the technical side of the emulator itself; GameEx doesn't support any kind of native networking to enable that function.

Nice Job! Updated OP, DB, RSS

I liked the dwarve's cleaning up song and the goblin king's 'goblin town' song in the movie. The "quest" song about going to the mountain was awesome too. You're right though, there is a TON of music in the book, and I'm really surprised there's not more of it in the movies.

Yeah it is interesting that Lord of the Rings was 3 books. 3 books = 3 movies. The Hobbit is 1 book. 1 book = 3 movies? Doesn't quite make sense. But when you look at all the extra stuff added, it works. Granted, they could have gotten away with 2 movies (get to the mountain, then the fight at the end (spoilers/still to come, sorry:)). But other versions that have come before of The Hobbit (the animated feature) really fell short and was not a very good adaptation at all.

I have a "launch with gameex" program that runs the update to check for new games to add to the High Score Competition map file (DETAILS). You could probably do that with GameEx and your timelapse program; have it run your program when GameEx starts, and then have a lnk/bat or whatever available in the GameEx menu to close it down. With the launch with gameex feature, you don't have to do anything, it runs prior to gameex starting it's loadup.

I'm a horribly slow reader too. I took me 8 months to read half of The Hobbit. Then I put it down and forgot about it for like 10 years. Picked it back up, restarted, took about 6 more months to get to the same spot. Put it back down. Then I found an audiobook of it, and listened to it while I read it. Much easier that way I think. Sometimes my eyes will get tired and my vision drifts away and about the room. Long as there is an audiobook version, it keeps chugging along and I can follow it much easier. On a side note, I've really enjoyed watching the DUNE movie and then the DUNE miniseries. I wanted to read the book (books are always better). So I got it from the library. It took me about 14 months to read it. I had to renew my checkout of it like 6 times. They almost turned me down that last time but I begged and pleaded because I was only 2 chapters away from finishing it. When Harry Potter came out, everybody was batshit crazy about it, but I had no interest in it because I thought it was a stupid kids book. Then the movies came out, and my neighbor wanted me to get her some copies of them (tv recording (we had cable, she didn't)). I didn't want to watch them while I taped them cause I thought they were sooo dumb looking. Then my birthday a few years ago dad got me the first book. He said it was mine but if I didn't want it he would keep it for himself. He said "Just read the 1st chapter and see what you think." I sat down on the toilet one night and actually read about 3 pages and decided I would give a good try. Finished the first chapter in about an hour. But I couldn't put it away. I was like "Dad? I think I like it but I don't really wanna start another chapter because it'll take me all night to read it." He was just like, "do what you can, it's not a race". I finished 2 more chapters that weekend, and finished the first book in about 3 weeks total. Then I watched the movie and actually got a lot more enjoyment out of it cause I understood what was going on. I then got the 2nd book, read it in about 1.5 months, and watched the 2nd movie. I went like that for about 2 years, finally finishing the series before the last 2 movies were released, and I got to enjoy them by myself in the theater in 3D. I was so mad at myself for doubting the series. It really is a GREAT series, and not at all childish. There's some great and serious stuff in there. I can now really understand all the hype people were going nuts over before. My only problem is that it WAS an easy read for a lot of people compared to other stuff I've tried to read, yet it still took me FOREVER to do it myself. Lord of the Rings probably took me 5 years in all to read. My stepmom can finish each book in a day, and says she's actually ready all 3 in one day when she was home sick. She's absolutley crazy. I don't know how she can read so much so fast and get ANYTHING out of it. Every day it seems, we're getting a box from Amazon for her with like 3 more books in it. Our house is littered with books. They're trying to get me to read the "Song of Ice and Fire" series now. In other words, the "Game of Thrones" series. Game of Thrones is actually the first book in the series. The paperback is like 3 inches thick. I got the eBook for my Kindle and the audiobook to go with it. Hopefully I'll have it finished within a year. I looked at the track lengths of the audiobook. The copy I have has each chapter in it's own mp3, so there are like 78 mp3's (78 chapters), and each chapter is about an hour long. It's going to take me FOREVER!! So yeah, don't feel bad about reading slow. My speed is terrible too. Everybody says it gets better with practice. The more you read the faster you get. Hell, it sometimes takes me 30-45 minutes to read a comic book! All I can say is give it a try, and try to find an audiobook to go with it. They include things like sound effects, music, and the good ones have the reader throwing his voice to give each character a different voice. I just read the "Thrawn Trilogy" from Star Wars. It took me about a year to finish it too, going with an audiobook. My biggest problem though is finding the time to sit down or lay in bed and dedicate time to just reading/listening. Hope you get along!

What I did for this is make a shortcut icon of the exe, and place it in a special folder. For example: "PC Games". Then all my PC Games that uses exe's, etc.. I just moved all the shortcuts (*.lnk) to that folder. Point GameEx to it as an emulator path, set the rom filter to *.lnk, and off you go. You could do it other ways too. There are settings in there for External Apps, but I'm not home right now to tell you exactly where.

Don't get me started. My Dad and Stepmom are furious with it. They're like "Legolas wasn't even in the book, and who is this made up character that's his girlfriend?" and like "There weren't orcs chasing them down rapids with open top barrels in the book, they were sealed barrels, and it was a pleasant ride." I'll give Peter Jackson credit though. I'm glad they expanded it the way they did. It makes the journey much more interesting. It also goes into much more detail to explain where the heck Gandalf kept running off to. Granted, in the book Radagast had like 2 paragraphs, and in the movies so far he's had a good 10 minutes worth of dialog and action. He wasn't there to help rescue the dwarves when they slipped into the cave. Still, I like the way it's running. And they couldn't just cut out the bulk of Desolation by cutting to the last 30 minutes. They went to Laketown, and met Beor. It's some very important plot points for the story as a whole. Movie 3 will show this. If you haven't read the books (including Lord of the Rings), you're probably feeling it's taking way too long. For a fan of the books and the stories, I don't think it's long enough. When the first movie came out, I waited and bought the Extended Edition, and I still feel like there's stuff left out. Same with the Lord of the Rings movies. I bought the first releases but also own the Extended versions, and the Extended versions are the only ones I watch now. Just give it time, it'll all make sense in the end.

SPOILER!! Sheesh

Heh sounds like me too. I like fighting games to a point. However I don't know any of the special moves. When the first Mortal Kombat game came to the Sega Genesis, I spent the night at a friends house and we hammered that game the entire night without sleeping. I learned all the special moves and all the Fatalities. Then MK2 came out and I was completely lost. They added a whole bunch more characters with specials moves, all the old characters had additional new moves, the Fatalities changes, there were also other "Finish Him" moves now. I was so lost. Then MK3, and Ultimate MK3 followed suit. I couldn't keep up! So yeah, if you were to play Street Fighter with me, you probably would beat me ALL THE TIME!
