  1. I'm doing something similar in my current HTPC build though I'm going the opposite way, I boot into XBMC but have a 'Games' item in my main menu which runs GameEx. You may want to look at Xpadder. It will allow you to map any key to your joypad button using 'Set selector' You could map the buttons on your controller to the keyboard shortcuts in XBMC. I have it set that if I hold Select and press Start on my Xbox 360 controller it will send Alt+F4 to close the current active window Another option is to set XBMC up to detect and use the Xbox controller using the keymap.xml haven't tried this myself yet but it's on my todo list I use the Nyxboard remote for XBMC and keyboard. It's a bit pricier than other remotes but its a nice compact size and the latest XBMC has built in support for it e.g. when you flip it over to the keyboard side XBMC pops up the serach dialog box. It also past the wife test so it gets a double thumbs up from me
  2. I haven't gotten around to trying Black Mesa yet but will do shortly. I have a thought though, if you can't find the ID for it, can it be launched via an exe? If it can the you could add the exe into Steam as a non steam shortcut which GameEx will pick... bit of a roundabout way of doing it but should work
  3. Yeah it works great and I think you'll find a lot more support from people here on getting your emulators up and running in GameEx Now all I need is for Chazz to release his Confulence:GEX theme and I'll have the perfect setup
  4. I've been using both XBMC and GameEx for years and although I've played with Advance Launcher in XBMC I've never gotten half my emulators working correctly. GameEx provides much more control over launching the emulator as you can also kick off additional processes to help more awkward emulators get up and running. It also provides the option for nice extras like a video for each game rather than just a screenshot. For my current HTPC build I'm using XBMC but I have added a Games item to the main menu which then kicks off GameEx so the 2 can happily live in harmony
  5. Oh I forgot about Luigi's Mansion on the Gamecube, I've been playing about with Dolphin a lot lately, must give it a blast. I've been really surprised how well Dolphin runs too. I'm running on an i5 720 with a GTX 460 and pretty much everything is running smooth. Mario Galaxy and Mario Galaxy 2 are the slow though I would also recommend Pikmin 1 and 2, they are available for Gamecube and with Wiimote support on Wii. My wife loved watching me play those 2 from start to finish. She cried when they all followed me into the water and died before we realised they couldn't swim Mario Kart Wii is also great, there is Mario Kart Double Dash on the Gamecube as well but I haven't played much of it, good to complete a collection though. I was playing Kororinpa the other night, it's really good but you need a Wiimote to enjoy it as it relies on tilting
  6. I've always intended to build something like a NESputer for years but when I finally sat down and starting thinking of what I wanted in my mini HTPC build it was just easier to use an already made mini itx case. I really wanted the option to add in a full length GPU, so I needed space to fit the card and a decent watt PSU to power it. Some day I'll build one
  7. I remember them being a complete pain but I still miss them. Biggest issue I had was resolutions. I have an ArcadeVGA and multisync monitor so each gun game was trying to run in a different resolution which screwed up the calibration. Had to create ini's for each gun game to force them to 640x480 I'm really interested in getting a light gun up and running in the older consoles, NES, MasterSystem, Genesis and SNES, haven't played Duck Hunt or Pest Control on the Genesis in years. I'm assuming I'm going to need a double emulator setup, one with light gun connected and one for controllers. And they're still nowhere near as frustrating as pairing those damn Wii Remotes with windows
  8. nice work, very clean
  9. GameEx should grab these automatically from the Steam website but if you want to use your own just replace the file in GameEx\MEDIA\STEAM\VIDEO GameEx\MEDIA\STEAM\SNAP You need to know the game id though, you can get this from the \GameEx\DATA\steamdata.ini or from the Steam website for each game (its in the url) You can edit descriptions in the steamdata.ini
  10. Added 20820 - Shatter
  11. I re-installed Windows 7 codecs and all is well again, thanks Tom
  12. Sorry Tom I have already fixed the file myself but the shortcutnames sections looked like this before "shortcutnames" { "11501351716352163840" "SEGA Rally Revo" "12773183831544954880" "NinjaBlade" "9892729744938500096" "Sensible Soccer 2006" "16479449632548585472" "Punishment 2" "11239396562842943488" "SEGA Rally Revo" } As for the FLV's I'm not aware of installing anything other than a couple of Windows updates, the files play fine in VLC. The log says Failed Opening Video: f:\games\gameex\media\steam\video\92300.flv
  13. Yeah I had previously only tried to emulate games I know I could use a joypad with as I couldn't be bothered fighting with the Wiimote pairing, so it's opened up lots more games I'm now going to look at potentially using my Wiimote as a mouse for my HTPC, before it was always pointless as you always needed to use your mouse to get the Wiimote paired
  14. I have successfully managed to pair my Wiimotes running on Windows 7 x64 with the MicroSoft Bluetooth Stack, I mean totally pair them, even after I reboot my PC all I need to do is press any button to activate the Wiimote before starting Dolphin and it will connect them. All you need is a tool called WiiPair, you can get it here download the Wiimote ADC package, it is part of it. First delete any existing Wiimotes from the Windows bluetooth devices (right click remove) Run WiiPair and press the 'Easy Pair' button, use the red button inside you WiiMote battery cover, it's important to use the red button not 1+2 as it will properly authenticate you PC with the WiiMote by sending the reverse mac address back to your Wiimote. That's all there is to it. Now when you run a game in Dolphin it will auto pair as long as you press any button on the Wiimote before starting This is something I've attempted to do unsuccessfully for years, I'm so pleased
  15. Have any of you any experience with wireless usb hubs? ioGear have one (GUWH104KIT) and I think Belkin do one as well I have just about every retro usb adapter for all the classic consoles and all the controllers to match. I have all my emulators setup to use my wireless Xbox 360 controller but if I'm feeling all nostalgic I can pull the original controller out and plug it in to my emu box and use it instead automatically. This all works perfect but as these old controllers are wired, it means I have cables lying across the floor. This means a constant source of ear ache from my wife about how untidy it looks and a constant battle with my pug to stop chewing the damn cables My thought is I could have this wireless hub in the corner beside the lamp and plug my controllers into it. It's £85 plus postage though so I'd rather know if anyone else has had any experience with them first, lag, connection issues etc. I've been eyeing them up for years but they never really took of which leaves me very skeptical. Another option I've just dicovered might be USB over powerline
  16. I've never tried myself but in my GameEx start menu entry, under the 'Other Versions' folder there is a 'GameEx Lite (MAME Only)' option.
  17. Wish I hadn't stumbled across this thread, I'm itching to buy an AimTrak now I've been chatting to Andy to see if it's compatible with my existing TopGun 2 LED bar but it's not, he said his patent pending LED cluster is actually what makes his setup so accurate. Interestingly though his last email just a few moments ago said So now I am supper excited
  18. Thanks I actually just found that site yesterday, thought it looked like it was pretty current Yeah I gave it a blast the other day, it was one of those moments when emulation just blows my mind with how perfect it can work, much like when I first played Mario 64 on UltraHLE back in 1999 I only had a couple of issues with Mario Kart, it doesn't always use the cheats to insert 99 credits, it would work perfect the 1st time but I would need to delete he emu and start again to play it again.
  19. This is much better Tom, login issues are gone... I did get the double login once there but I've been playing about, in and out of games for half an hour with no issue so I'll just put it down to a freak of nature for now. Still no joy with the flv's though, I deleted them and GameEx has downloaded them again but still won't play them, i will play the Sega Rally and Ninja Blade videos that it found though, its just the proper Steam games it doesn't seem to like anymore As for the double entries in the shortcut file both times that it has happened, the second entry has been the correct item so maybe if you find 2 with the same game name you could pick the second instead of the first... or maybe just ignore it for now and see how often it happens, I can fix the shortcut file myself anyway by deleting the 1st entry
  20. How do you exit Steam? do you kill the process or do you send the shutdown command? Seems killing the process may cause issues as Steam needs to shutdown 'gracefully' to keeps files intact http://gaming.stackexchange.com/questions/60444/non-steam-games-dropping-from-steam-library
  21. Hi Tom, wrappers are now launching for the non Steam games, thanks. I'm afraid I'm having a lot of other problems with the latest version though. Sometimes when I start a Steam game it's seems to be trying to load Steam twice, I get a message telling me that it is already running. Sometimes the login box appears but it doesn't log in automatically. Still no videos playing either, didn't get a chance to try deleting my steamdata.ini again There seems to be a more serious issue with the non Steam games. It would appear the screenshots file is unreliable. It would appear steam can decide to change that ID when it feels like it making all shortcut invalid, I had Sega Rally working last night, tried tonight and nothing, Steam just appears. I launched the game from within the Steam menu and it worked. I now have 2 Sega Rally entries in the shortcut file: "shortcutnames" { "11501351716352163840" "SEGA Rally Revo" "12773183831544954880" "NinjaBlade" "9892729744938500096" "Sensible Soccer 2006" "16479449632548585472" "Punishment 2" "11239396562842943488" "SEGA Rally Revo" } I noticed this happened last night when I was trying to get Punishment 2 working but I was hoping it was a one of I've attached my log file Also maybe it would be an idea not to log the users steam login to the log file before people start posting logs over the forum and someone steals their account I'm going to have a play about on my none emu system to see how things behave there log.zip
  22. I'm just curious what sites everyone uses for the emulation news fixes. Lately I've been getting it from all your GameEx GamerTags I was surprised to see Mario Kart TriForce a couple of weeks ago in someones GameEx GamerTag, so I went looking and sure enough TriForce is now almost perfectly emulated. Then the other day I seen Super Street Fighter IV running in Taito Type X2 in another GameEx GamerTag and it turns out not only is Taito Type X2 emulated but Type X has also been emulated for ages I'm obviously well out of the loop here so where do you all find this info these days? Thanks
  23. GameEx will show a 'live' list of what is in your specified folder. It will try and match the names of your roms to a database but this is only to display extra info like a description. If the game in your folder doesn't match the database name then it will still appear in GameEx but it will just have no meta data. The merge feature works exactly as you describe it Example: Gran Turismo (Disc 1) Gran Turismo (Disc 2) will appear in GameEx as: Gran Turismo When you select the game you will be asked which disc you want to play on the 'Game Info' screen in GameEx I don't know exactly all the words it will parse but I know I have some systems the use (Disc 1) some that use (CD1) and I think I even have some that use (Disc 1 of 2) and they all get handled correctly.
  24. I just keep them all in 1 folder but turn on "Merge Sets" in the 'Advanced Emulator Setup' screen This option will merge multidisc games into 1 entry, when you select the game, GameEx will ask you which disc to play. With the announcement of ePSXe 1.8 around the corner, and one of it's new features is that it will support compressed iso's, I will likely be converting all my bin's & cue's in the coming weeks
  25. Should wrappers work for none Steam games in the same way as Steam games? I've created a wrapper using the appid for the shortcut but it doesn't launch
