  1. With the above TV stand combined with this one https://theatlanticstore.com/phoenix-gaming-hub-tv-stand/ your done for under $500 and it looks cool and is completely finished as soon as you put it together. Just add your TV, control panel and it's game on. I guarantee I've invested WAY more in what I was doing, and it become so overwhelming as it went on. Granted, it would have been cool and unique, but you've got to have a lot of time and energy in order to persevere.
  2. Nope, it's just all piled in the corner pretty much in the same state it was years ago, which puts it in good company with the rest of my personal items. If I had the opportunity to do it over, I'd be going this route without a doubt. Plus it would make much more sense from a physical perspective given the extremely limited space I have now compared to what I had when I started dreaming up that design.
  3. I have no affiliation with this, but it seems like an amazingly cool solution and reasonable to me, having built much more overthought monstrosities myself.
  4. I would think that at the very least you could run one MAME version via the GameEx integrated MAME feature (which has filter options built in) and another configured in an emulator slot. I've never specifically tried this, but suppose you could as long as you give them recognizable names and directories to distinguish them apart in the paths and within the GameEx Menus. Even so, it's gong to get awfully confusing and filter options already exist in the GameEx Integrated MAME feature that makes it easy as just selecting them from the menu, Vector Games, Atari Games, etc. I would really suggest playing around with that first in an effort to circumvent a lot of extra work, as you may be able to achieve your goal quite easily just with this feature.. By default, no, but it can be done. https://www.gameex.com/instant-sheller-and-shelling-guide/
  5. Well, someone forgot to tell that to the 78 million Switch owners!
  6. I always knew there was something to these things, no way they would just be popping up all over the place if someone wasn't trying to send a message. Mystery solved!
  7. Yep, they're pretty steep, but if this provides proof of concept then you know others heavy hitters will go after the market. Plus, cheap knock-offs are likely just months away once the design information is shared all over the manufacturing sector over there.
  8. Who needs a Switch, hah! This thing is incredible looking and a dream for the gamer on the go!
  9. Just for a point of reference: I would think any Sandy Bridge based proc would handle current MAME releases without issue. I was running on a Q9550/8GB up until a few years ago and never missed a beat. There have been many improvements in post .200 releases that may prove me wrong though. The 260m in my laptop runs Pinball FX2 fine, which I think would translate into at least most MAME classics running fine on your GPU.
  10. It's official, Tom's been in lockdown way tooooooo long
  11. Saw this posted elsewhere and thought I'd share it here. Read the Reddit link. PolyCube Steam Reddit
  12. If there is I don't know about it. A couple groups I having PC gaming ties to have come back together just recently and started one, and I'm on madlittlepixel's channel too, but these seem like ghost towns most of the time. Reminds me of sitting on IRC, well sort of.... The thing I think I think would help most is if people frequenting other retro gaming sites were talking more about GameEx, then more end up coming here as a result. People just aren't talking about it elsewhere like they do others, at least from what I can see. GameEx is a great frontend that really speaks for itself IMO, I think that maybe people just take it for granted since it's been around so long. Hard to say really, but there's a good user-base out there, they just don't talk non-stop about it.
  13. Yeah, that's pretty slick for sure!
  14. These things are like the mashed potato mountain, something is inspiring people!
  15. while waiting in line at the old Captain Pell's. Just thinking about it makes me hungry!
  16. Tony sent out some really cool old videos he stumbled across in his last email.....ah the good ole days!
  17. I'm really curious about how this turns out for you, so please keep us posted (and maybe even give us a demonstration of the LED controls in action).
  18. It's all so subjective to end user personal preferences on topics like this, which makes it difficult to offer anything other than an opinion based upon your own. If you're happy with it, then that's all that really matters. For me, I lean a lot toward the less is more idea, so for me either of these would be far to busy. My preference would be interactive system bezels and game marquees over any static image that can't be changed until the next "re-fresh". When I look at the control panel I want the controls to be the standout, not the artwork. Anything that detracts from the controls is something I would view as a negative.
