  1. I like how you think - maybe a GameEx screensaver is what I was actually thinking of. I haven't seen much recent action in the MAME screensaver forum. It would be nice to have one that features (on a screensaver scale, nmind you) the flexibility to select from MAME and other emus to match those that we run through GameEx.
  2. Will the MAME Screensaver be updated to take advantage of the changes within GameEx regarding DirectDraw?
  3. Once again, you pull one out of the hat! Thanks!
  4. Here is another one, different perspective with controllers and tape deck.
  5. Aaron - I have an idea and it may not work. First, OS ar you using? Windows 7 can use Libraries to join separate resource locations under one folder. For example, I have two folders under my Videos Libaries that are on the same drive, yet different paths. If you right-click on the Library, then left-clcik on Propertie, there is an option to add another folder - it doesn't have to be on the same drive as the other. It may be possible to point to the Library and have a single point of access to both. The only issue that I can see is is that there isn't a distinct path to the Library. This might be an ehancement request unless someone know how to set this up in GameEx.
  6. Hmmm... how much does he earn in tips?
  7. Aaron - If you don't mind my asking, what is the rationale behind having two folders of the same name\path on different logical drives? I do not beleive it is possible to have them show as one folder because of this.
  8. You got that right! I must admit a dangerous fondness for the Megajuana Steak Chimichanga from Tijuana Flats. Not sure if that has anything to do with Adventurevision Image cleanup...
  9. Anytime! Would have done a better clean-up, but there was this huge burrito screaming my name...
  10. I wasn't able to quickly do anything with the image you had provided, but I found another I was able to edit. Let me know if this will work (It may need some minor cleanup in the alhpa-channel areas. Was trying to edit and eat at the same time).
  11. Another option - configure automatic updates to notify you instead of download and install. That way, you can select which updates you wis to install and deselect those you do not.
  12. I have it and sent the zipped theme to the themes link - ithe upload completed, but I do not see it in the list afterwards. Perhaps because my email address does not match to the username for Vslivalopes? Well, I stand corrected, it is now showing!
  13. I want to begin working with foreground images in GameEx. Is it possible to do so with the start or oher canned pages? The tutorials do not offer anything on this and I do not see where many of the themes are using them. Any help is appreciated.
  14. You may also want to make sure that you are able to get an emulator working and loading and familiar with the paths in the emulator first. If you are trying to get the emulator working and making it work in GameEx at the same time, you will set yourself up for added confusion. My first emulator to setup was MAMEUI32 (or MAMEUI64 if you are using a 64-bit version of Windows). I found it to be one of the easiest to setup with success.
  15. Hi Franck - this issue appears to be resolved in the 11.04 update . Please install the latest update and let us know. You may need to attach a copy of your log file if still an issue.
  16. Stigt - Load the Theme in Theme Editor. Once loaded, you can do one of two things: 1) Click on Edit > Options >Settings tab. There you can deselect the box that reads Display Title Text. Next, click OK, then click File > Save. or 2) If you want the title, yet just want to move it elsewhere on the screen, locate Layout and look for Title. Click on it to focus the selection. You can either drag it to the location of your choice on the screen or modify the X and Y coordinates to move it to the location of your liking. Once complete, click File >Save. Hope this is of help!
  17. Hey DJ, I didn't see where you noted finding an answer. If you have added Super Game Boy to your list of emulators (Will show up as [Handheld] Nintendo Super Game Boy), you can do one of two things - both of which will create the same file: 1.) Rename your Super Game Boy logo _Handheld_Nintendo_Super_Game_Boy.png and save it in your theme's logo folder or 2.) Open your logo in Paint, Photoshop, Gimp (whatever you use to edit yoru image files), click on Edit then Copy. Open your theme in Theme Editor, then locate under Logos > _Handheld_Nintendo_Super_Game_Boy and click Paste. Then click Save.
  18. Thanks for the clarification on the Visual PinMAME/Pinball. I have been looking at the site for both and they both boast quite a following! I must admit that pinball was my first love (first available long before the arcade games of my teens). I have seen some where people have actually dedicated a widescreen TC as the play field for the pinball machine being emulated with a smaller LCD screen as the scoreboard. I don't know that I wil go quite that far (unless I win a big lottery) but maybe a dedicated cab with an LCD laid out vertically somewhere the future.
  19. What about for pinball? I know of the three - Future Pinball, Visual PinMAME, and Visual Pinball. Which is the best for ease of setup and use, GameEx compatibility, and realism?
  20. That is a pretty good list to start from. I am sure a lot depends on what you want to emulate. I have a few friends that collect games just to say they have them - I seriously doubt they have played many in their collection. I found myself in a similar mindframe, but since I already own two console games (Original Xbox and 360) and a ton of PC games dating back to DOS 6/Win 95, I find myself debating whether or not I want to stick with just Arcade or a mix. Ultimately, I would like to build a cab (so Arcade - MAME, Daphne, CPS & Neo-Geo will most likely be the focus there) and will likely begin weeding out my collection before I am done. I am also considering an HTPC/NAS project where I can see emulating the older & popular consoles from one machine would work well, along with jukebox and movies stores, but this will be much later as I need to get the game cab bug out of my system if nothing more than to say I finally did it! I definitely appreciate the feedback and honesty found here - the GameEx community is one of the most helpful and mature around. I won't name names or sites, but there are some that seem to encourage the feverish fanboy types with little interest in helping us noobs grow in our understanding and support of a quality program.
  21. As I am just getting started, I am finding it a bit overwhelming identifying which emulators I want to use with GameEx. I have checked various forums to try to determine which ones are actively supported, are not a major pain to configure and use, and are the most true to the original system. So far, I have enjoyed a bit of success with MAMEUI64 and Project 64. I see there are others (such as MESS) which are alleged to support a multitude of consoles, but I have yet to explore it. My concern is the fidelity to the original system it is emulating and ease of setup and maintenance. Can one program do it all and do it well? That is why I decided to start this topic so that GameEx users of all levels of experience can share with others their favorites, issues they have encountered, and how they resolved them. I know that some of there will probably be some references to other threads, but that is OK.
  22. Larry - following is the statement from Tom regarding the 10.49 release and above: ".net framework 2 service pack 1 is the minimum required framework for GameEx since the project was upgraded to visual studio 2008 and the installer has been updated to detect and install this. I'd also like to point out that windows 98 and ME are no longer supported. I would have personally supported them still, but the development tools I am using do not allow me to. The minimum supported OS is 2000 SP4 and XP SP 2..." You should be fine so long as you meet/exceed the requirements. Check your video settings as suggested and let us know what you find.
  23. What brand/model video card do you have? You may want to try disabling your anti-virus and installing the latest driver from the manufacturer.
