I think that nullPointer and possibly ehuounder are more frequent users. I have only lightly dabbled in it but hope to do more. Inkscape is more for creating and working with vector graphics which can be saved to .svg (Scalable Vector Graphics) format among others. Kinda hard to compare to GIMP. The are both open source and, while some features are quite similar, one is for vector graphics while the other is more for raster.

You are correct in that there is not a lot of documentation.However, if you are as skilled as you say then you have more going for you than when I first started - and I was able to figure it out. The theme editor is more for placement of the various fields and image elements and font selections, colors, etc. You will need tools such as Photoshop or GIMP to create/modify the graphic images. Of course, the choice is yours.

Hi Duke - I am going to refer you to this thread which will help you find the error for yourself. You will find a link that will tell you where to find the correct command line to correct the one showing in your emulator config for ZSNES. Yours shows as Command=zsnesw.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE which is incorrect. I am referring you to the solution so that you may know where to go to find the correct command lines and assorted files to assist you in correctly setting up GameEx to work properly with your emulator rather than just giving the answer outright.

Please provide us with a copy of your gameex.ini file (located under \gameex\config path. I am the creator of that particular theme and there is nothing in the theme that should be producing a random playing of a game.

There is the "Born under a rock" class, but it hasn't been activated... ..YET!

Can you specify which themes? I am not aware of any that will start a game, however, it may be that there is a video file under the \gameex hemes\THEMENAME\Media\logo path that is being invoked as opposed to a static logo snap. If that is a case, it is a matter of removing the video file and ensuring that there is an image file of the same name.

Try editing the gameex.ini file directly. It has the appearance of an admin rights issue on your drive that is keeping you Setup Wizard from overwriting the changes. You may want to edit the properties for setupwizard.exe to Run as Administrator.

Hi svenk75 - can you provide a copy of your gameex.ini and your log.txt files? The gameex.ini is located under the \gameex\config path and log.txt under the \gameex\log path. It is possible you may be dealing with a codec issue so knowing what codecs you have installed and OS may be helpful as well.

If you are looking for something specifically that you cannot find through sources such as Wikipedia or the like, I would definitely suggest asking Tom or Circo as they have assisted me on a few requests in the past.

Unless the person holds a specific copyright for the work - which most do not, I would say that 99% of the images we work with are derivative from a copyrighted image from an OEM or software manufacturer/publisher. If I am using someone's work outright with no changes, it definitely doesn't hurt to ask permission or even acknowledge from whom and where the image was obtained whenever possible.

Also, please take a look under that theme's MEDIA folder and confirm if there is a image file gameexisloading.png there. If not, copy one from another theme into that folder and try again.

Depending on what you are wanting to do on the XP side of things, there is also the option to download and install XP Mode which, in essence, integrates an XP VM somewhat seamlessly with your Win 7 side. The caveat is that it is compatible with Win 7 Pro, Ultimate, or Enterprise editions. I have tested it with a few less intensive games with some pretty decent results where simply selecting them to run in XP Compatibility mode was not sufficient.

Welcome to the forums. Before we get down to the meat of your issue, I want to prepare you for what you will have to do to help us help you. First, we are going to ask some questions - lots of questions - and for you to provide us with information before we just start dolling out resolutions or suggestions to fix your problems. Second, we ask that you show patience with us as we attempt to guide you towards a resolution. Finally, realize it isn't as bad as you think. Before we get started, you will need to provide us with a copy of your gameex.ini and custommenu.ini files (located under the \gameex\config path). You can attach them in your reply within this thread. Also, we need to know if you have any of the emulators you mentioned functioning outside GameEx. This is crucial. If you haven't, then you will need to do so first before we can help you to properly configure the frontend.

Have you tried deleting the cache files for those emus impacted?

I think those more familiar with the emulator will need to step in to assist. In the mean time, please export and post a copy of your SSF emulator config file from GameEx via the Setup Wizard. You will find the option in the middle of the emulator selection screen.

Have you tried changing it to SSF.exe [VIRTUALDRIVE] ?
