    Update List

Update List generates the MAME Roms/Games list. It incorporates files that describe the game, how many players it uses, what category it would fall under (like Shooter, side scroller), what 'system type' it would fall under (like, cps, lightgun, vertical), and what rom files are included to create the parent name. All of this data is compared to your GameEx settings, such as your filtered out games. Once it has a list of the histories, and a list of filters from GameEx, it then pulls a list of what roms you have in the MAME/roms folder and builds the list. Of course, I may have the order mixed up, where the list is generated, then the information added, then the filters go into effect, but the idea is still there. So you only need to run the Update List if: A.) You download a new version of MAME and want to have GameEx list the newly available roms B.) You make a change to the GameEx settings; ie, you decide to filter out porn, or add Japanese titles C.) You make any changes to your roms, such as a new collection download, or a restructured set via clrmamepro. You shouldn't have to update the list whenever a new GameEx version is released. You also don't need to update the list when you change snaps, videos, or any other "extra". Hope that clears it up for ya.
  3. My findings on the new setup wizard... Going through ADVANCED mode: Theme downloads didn't quite work right. They either didn't prompt me for an install directory, or timed out. I assume the timeout is because the GameEx hosting server is being hammered by everybody downloading. Audio Settings - MAME Audio Mode: Options dialog box is too small, can't read all the options. Audio Settings - Arcade Ambiance. When you go to browse for the file, it is browsing for an exe and not an mp3. Enable Videos/Movies: You should make a notation on this page to help people identify what you mean. IE; is this for intro videos to games, or content like music videos and movies you've downloaded/ripped from dvd's? Enable Pictures: Same as for video/movies. You need to clarify that these are for YOUR photos, not things like screenshots... Emulators: Where are all the other options? You're missing stuff like "enable 7-zip support", "enable in screensaver", "use XXXX database", etc. You're also missing setup pages for HTML applications. All-in-all, it looks great so far. Just needs a few more additions and tweaks. I especially like the links you placed for websites to provide more information on certain things. Like finding out what Model 2 and Zinc are. A+
  4. I'd like for somebody to rewrite the script file that uses the GameEx bezel for vertical MAME games. Since (I believe) MAME v106, everything is using a new renderer that makes the current bezel artwork not work. If you have it enabled, MAME will crash on a vertical game and won't run. The new renderer uses a simple xml format with the extention .lay (layout). It's only like a 4 line file and wouldn't be hard to do, I just don't know how to do it.
  5. This is exactly what I was talking about. Tom's bezel artwork for GameEx doesn't work with the new versions of MAME. They are rendered in a different format. When you have bezels enabled in GameEx, MAME can't render them and it crashes MAME back to GameEx. Somebody needs to sit down for a couple minutes and write out the xml for the new .lay render. I don't understand it or I'd do it myself, but it's only like 4 lines.
  6. I saw the roms were available a few days ago. I didn't grab them or anything cause I was waiting for the official release announcements. Guess it's time now. Oh one quick question, to Tom mostly. Is there a new .LAY format of the GameEx bezel yet? Since 107 the MAME guys built a new renderer which makes the GameEx bezel artwork no longer work. In fact, if you have it turned on, MAME won't even run. I'd still like to use it for the vertical games that don't have bezel art yet.

    Glitch or bug?

I wish there was a way to disable that feature. I don't intend on ever having a cocktail cabinet, so it's a useless feature for me.
  8. The Sephiroth for PSX is cool, but I think the original mascot for the PSX was Crash Bandicoot... If you wanna be a purest.

    No games.

Make sure that when you're done setting up the emulator, that it's ENABLED. It's the first or second option for the emulator. I'm not looking at it right now, but that should fix your problem. If not, make sure your paths are set right. GameEx won't tell you if you have an emulator setup wrong. Instead, it just doesn't show the emulator.
  10. Maybe Tom should consider adding the option to install ffdshow as part of the GameEx installation. Since it's apparent that everytime somebody new joins in the GameEx bliss, they almost certainly always have trouble getting them to work. Also, since GameEx now has a built in way to create your own video's through CreateSnaps, it only makes that much more since. Just a thought.
  11. I'm just glad I found a temporary solution that works with other people too until Tom works out the problem.
  12. Here's a question... why do you have to add this game name to the "DO NOT FILTER" line in the first place? Shouldn't GameEx be showing it regardless? There's got to be a reason for it not being listed. I also noticed that I don't have this game listed. In fact, I do have A tmnt2 game, but its "pc_tmnt2". When I look in MAME32, it shows "Working Game protection" where as others would say "Working". I've also seen "Working Video Emulation", "Working Sound emulation"... so could this mean that Tom's filter of "allow imperfect games" isn't working? I checked my config and noticed that I had 'ONLY WORKING GAMES' set to yes, and 'allow imperfect' also yes. So I changed it to 'only working games' no, and rebuilt the list. That added a whole bunch more games... I had like 5600 in GameEx, with 6220 in MAME32. Now I have 6212 in GameEx. TURN OFF ONLY WORKING GAMES!!!!!!!!!!
  13. Check out MusicBrinz for your retagging. It detects the ID's based on the TRM of the file. TRM is kinda like the fingerprint. It can automatically identify, rename, insert tags, and save to folder based entirely on use preference. I've used it for a couple years now and its great. If you have something it doesn't recognise automatically, you can browse the online library for the information (incase your TRM is corrupted or something). If your song isn't in their library, you can add a new CD to it really easily. It's all community based, so everything in their library has been submitted, confirmed, and correct. I highly recommend it! http://musicbrainz.org/
  14. Its been the best thing I've bought online in a LONG time.
  15. I think thats a brilliant idea. Post it up over in the Feature Requests thread so Tom can consider implementing it (if it's possible).
  16. Heh I was thinking the same thing about Visual Pinball. Good work Tom!
  17. It's funny in a way.. that guy's mug shot looks just like all the other's you'd expect to see. Stereotypical and identifiable, I wasn't surprised that the guy was of a darker race. I say that because his real name "Anwar Salahuddin" sounds more Middle Eastern than African. I'm not racist or anything, it's just interesting to see that the people that make the news for being bad are either "black" or some washed out, redneck bum "white" guy. You know, the kind of people that just "look" like they should be locked up. Still, it's a tragic story and I feel very sorry for the mother. I'll pray for her, and hope everything turns out ok in the end with her unborn.
  18. Ok I need to make a slight correction to my reply. I have the Ultimate Joystick from Happs, not the Super. The Ultimate requires you to change the actuator to go from 4 to 8 way. I really wish I spent some more time investigating the different types and didn't buy this one. http://www.happcontrols.com/joysticks/507608xxx.htm
  19. If it has an actuator, you're stuck with what you got. The little plastic thing is what makes the contacts. Without it, it doesn't work. Also, to make it 4 way or 8 way, you need a different actuator. I was a bit upset after I bought mine from Happ and discovered this. You can buy the other actuator from Happ though.
  20. Can't wait to see your pics!
  21. Yeah I went back into the settings and set it to MUTE then reset it back to UNMUTE (lay-man's terms). Now it works.
  22. Noticed this just now (current release is 6.76). On the screensaver mode, it looks like the option for 'MUTE EMULATORS" is not working right. It's default mode is NO, but there are no sounds coming through any of my emulators. You may have typo'd something in the code there.
  23. Don't get me wrong though, there are a lot of games that you CAN play. It just depends on the resolutions. Games like StepMania work fine, but if you play it online its difficult to read the chatroom. Other games, like Halflife, are fine as long as you don't worry about trying to read chat if you're online. Fully graphical games with no text are fine.
  24. Actually, setting up PC games is a cinch in comparison to emulators. You have a bunch of different options to run them to. You can setup a single emulator page, called PC GAMES or similar, then just have all your games' shortcut linked to a "games/pcgames" type folder. Then set your rom filter to look for the lnk files, and it lists all your PC games. Or, you could use your external applications page and configure each game as it's own application. I'm not to fond of this option, cause you have to go into MORE GAMES PROGRAMS on the start menu, and then after you pick the game, you have to press START THIS GAME twice for it to work. But you do it however you want. One thing you might run into problems with is running those PC games on your TV set you mentioned you have. Unless they're really old games, ie, late 80's early 90's, you probably won't be able to read any of the text on the screen. The resolution will be so akward on a TV, that the text will be super small, or if you fix the res, they'll be super huge and clipped. Who knows though? You might just be able to get it all working with no problems at all. Just giving you some ideas of things to consider.
  25. PANT! PANT! PANT! (eyes wide open, almost falling out of their sockets!) COOL!! I just HAVE to get this latest download and give it a try! This is like gonna be soooo cool now! Were you able to look at my request about that zoom feature? Something else you could look into is getting that feature to work globably and not just on the Start Menu. YAY FOR TOM!
