Hey all... Does anybody use the 'Launch Before:' and 'Launch After:' command lines? I'm having quite a difficult time trying to get it to work correctly, and I think the programming may be bugged. Here's essentially what I'm trying to do: Atari 800 Emulator. The joystick has 1 fire button. The keyboard has 3 "special function" buttons on; Select, Option, and Start. My gamepad (Saitek P2500) has 10 programmable buttons on it. What I've done is create (what Saitek calls) a profile for the controller. A utility dynamically maps out buttons on the controller to specific keypresses on the keyboard. It can also do advanced programing, like pressing multiple keys at once, press this key then this key, and even a press this key for x seconds then this key for x seconds after waiting x seconds. Very hightech stuff there. Anyway, I got this profile setup to have 1 button be the Select, another the Option, and another for Start. Configuring GameEx, I've got the 'Also Launch' line set to run the utility and apply the profile. Then GameEx launchs the emulator and ROM. When I'm done playing, it should apply the default "cleared" profile and return to GameEx. But that's not what happens. The ability to apply the profile is done with a .bat file because the command-line interface of the profiler utility doesn't like spaces to the path of the profile. So I have to do it with quotes. There is also a space in the path to the profiler utilty, and I can't use double quotes. Its like "C:\program files\utility\program.exe -apply "c:\program files\utility\profiles\atari800.dat"" Of course thats just an example of the paths. So I get around this by having the bat file run the utility with quotes. It works great, as it applies the profile everytime. The "clearing" profile bat file also works fine. Whenever I exit a game (and gameex), the profiler shows the atari800 dat profile is still loaded. I execute the clear.bat and it clears it out. But for some reason, GameEx won't do it. I did a test, and changed the location of the files in the configuration of GameEx. I told it to "launch before" and "launch after" rather than use "also launch." That didn't work either. I had it in debug mode, and I saw what it's doing. It's launching the apply profile bat, then the emulator, then PAUSE. Then it launches the clear profile bat, then the emulator loads. So I think the problem is the timing of when the "launch after" actually launches. There should be a way to not execute the line until control of the system has returned to GameEx. So back to my original question. Does anybody use this that could possibly help me out? Is there another alternative I could use that I'm overlooking? Please help! -Han Sorry for rambling on.. it's 5:15 am here now, and I tend to do that when I'm tired... Hope somebody can bear to read this and offer some form of assistance. I'm going to bed now.. nite ya'll.

I agree. I just think everybody should work out and agree one a standardized naming system so everything will be cross-compatible between themes. Something else I was thinking about... if everybody uses the same LOGOS, why don't we just get TOM to establish a default LOGOS folder that just stores them. That might save a lot of disk space, rather than having 20 or so different copies of the same image for the Logo. If somebody wants to make a new version, you can still include that, but for the most part, just use the default logo system provided already. Something else along with that, we could have different versions be named accordingly in the default logo folder.. IE; genesis.png, genesis2.png, genesis3.png. Then the user can decide which version they like.
-
But are they really current to the day? I mean, what is the last ROM you have? I bet its only around 2540ish.. last I saw, they're nearing the 2600 mark, like 2594 or something. I'm willing to bet, that even though your set is matching with another website's dat file, you're still missing a large portion of ROMs. That's why I was talking about how the most recent ROM on one page was saying it was The Sims - Pets while my most recent ROM I have downloaded (and numbered...) is like 30 more ROMs higher.

Ok, here's my next config for GameEx. This is for the Amstrad CPC system. Goodtools has a romset for this system called "GoodCPC v2.02". This config tutorial assumes you are using this in 7-zip goodmerged format. #01 -> Download WinAPE from here. As of this posting, the current version is 2.0a8. So grab that. If a newer version is released, it has not been tested to work with this config. #02 -> Download Nologic's WinAPE wrapper from here. #03 -> Download your romset from somewhere. #04 -> Create a folder on your system to hold all these files. I used a subfolder in my games folder called "Amstrad CPC" but you can use whatever you want. #05 -> Extract WinAPE and the wrapper to that newly created folder. #06 -> Move your romset to a new folder (current rom folder is for system bios's). #07 -> Launch WinAPE and configure your settings like this: #08 -> Key things to change: Disable Automatic Update (the most recent version is falsely reporting a new update everytime the program loads), Hide Control Panel, Hide Menus, DirectSound, 44kHz, 16-bit, Stereo (if no sound options are changed, Window's sounds will be distorted if WinAPE crashes..), configure joystick if needed. #09 -> Exit the settings box and press [F10] to make the program run in full-screen. Then press [ALT]+[F4] to close the program. #10 -> In GameEx Setup Wizard, create a new emulator and configure it to use the root new folder for the working path, the new rom folder as the rom path, MAP KEYS, 7-zip enabled. #11 -> Command Line: Simple_Wrapper.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" #12 -> If you have them or plan to in the future, you can create and setup paths for the artwork too. #13 -> Try it and enjoy it! Ok, I was actually thinking about doing this before Adultery had suggested it. With the recent rise in custom made themes, and the ability to use a custom background for each emulator, I feel it necessary to begin a standardized naming system. We need everybody to conform to this system so that the settings can be shared between different themes. Here's what I was thinking. For the logos, everything is named lowercase, and for the backgrounds we use lowercase like the logos, but include the word BACK in the name. Atari 2600: 2600 2600BACK Atari 5200: 5200 5200BACK Atari 7800: 7800 7800BACk Atari Lynx: lynx lynxBACK Atari Jaguar: jaguar jaguarBACK Nintendo: nes nesBACK Super Nintendo: snes snesBACK Gameboy: gb gbBACK Gameboy Advance: gba gbaBACK Nintendo64: n64 n64BACK Nintendo GameCube: (we should decide on this one) gamecube (or gc) gamecubeBACK (or gcBACK) Nintendo WII: wii wiiBACK Nintendo DS: ds dsBACK Sega Master System: sms smsBACK Sega Genesis: genesis genesisBACK Sega 32X: 32x 32xBACK SegaCD: scd scdBACK Sega GameGear: gg ggBACK Sega DreamCast: dc dcBACK Sega Saturn: saturn saturnBACK NeoGeo: neogeo neogeoBACK NeoGeo Pocket: neopocket neopocketBACK MAME: mame mameBACK Daphne: daphne daphneBACK Zinc: zinc zincBACK Model 2: model2 model2BACK DOSBox: dos dosBACK PC-Games: pc pcBACK Visual Pinball: vp vpBACK Future Pinball: fp fpBACK Colecovision: coleco colecoBACK Intellivision: intellivision intelivisionBACK and so on and so forth....

Well, just tell your bro to stop being such a big pimp and making porno's. LOL just kidding man. Take your time with everything, no big rush at all.
-
Looks good. When you're finally done, just tell me what I have to do on my end. Or if you feel kindly, build and seed a torrent somewhere.

Question/Request: Is there a way to save settings for each theme? I had downloaded Valhalla too and set it up. It works great, but I spent so much time setting the custom backgrounds. If I go to change the theme, wouldn't the backgrounds that aren't using the same file names just not show up? If that be the case, is there anyway to save a customized config for each theme? So I can switch themes and have all the backgrounds still match up?
-
Ok, I installed the theme after examining how other people built their themes. Adultry and amos for instance. It looked like they had their root folder with some ini's, and some images, then the Media folder. In that folder, there was a folder called logos and a whole bunch of images and sound files. Closer examination showed me that the MEDIA folder was where all the custom backgrounds go, and the logos go in the logo's folder (redundant, I know ). So that's all said and done. Then I go into the setup wizard, and select his theme. Trial run, I launch it, and all my screens look like this: The category search part of the menu is overlapping my snaps. So basically, I need help fixing that. I thought it might have been because it was a 1024x768 resolution background, so I changed GameEx to run in that mode rather than the 800x600 I usually run at. I still had the same results. I also tried changing the font size. Normally I run everything in "Bigger", so I changed it down to "Normal" which I thought most people would be using. That didn't help either. I did, however, figure out that my theory was correct about how to apply the custom background by going through the wizard and choosing the background from the list. I also need to bicker and bitch about one other thing. Font color. This theme is too awesome to not be used. But I can't read the lists on some of them sweet backgrounds. This is because the white text font blends into the backgrounds where there is fire, or an explosion, or some other cool fog-like effect going on. I thought there was an option to enable a black border around the text, but couldn't find it in the wizard. I decided to go back to the archaic days and checked out the original configurator program. It was there, and I enabled it, but it didn't help all that much. Is there anything else I can do? All nastiness aside, AcidBrains Vision is one of the best looking themes I've seen on this site. Totally worth every drop of sweat he put into it. Good job bro!
-
Well, I'm playing it safe and just gonna keep going the way I have been. No snaps or nothing, and downloading new ROMS posted to the news group as the come. When all is said an done (hopefully not too much longer), then I'll just grab a full merged set when somebody builds one from knowing what they're doing.

I dunno, I'm still lost with this. I don't know what animation or game title scrolling you're talking about. I don't have anything "scrolling" on the screen. The only animations I have are when I choose different menu options... The menu zooms in/out and fades with an alpha blend, just like in Media Center. Speaking of alpha blend, that might be something you can try to disable. I think theres a few other settings you could try and disable that might help.. "Advanced Graphics" might be causing some problems. Try changing "Menu Transitions" from 3D to 2D, or possibly vice versa.. "Start Page Zoom Animation" is another one you could check out. Other than that, I don't know what to suggest. If it's a performance issue where it seems to render slowly, you might need a better processor, more ram, better video card, etc. If it's just timing, I'm probably just used to it and never noticed any kind of delay.
-
Ok.. but look at their most recent games..... The most recent game I physically have on my drive is "2568 - Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Junior". The first page has "2543 - The Sims 2 - Pets" as the most recent game. The 2nd page doesn't even have a LIST... so I can't compare it. Also, on my drive, 2543 is "2543 - Uno 52.zip". LOL! I did a search to see what number "sims 2 pets" is, and I apparently don't even have that rom. So my collection is TOTALLY out of whack.
-
I wonder why the autoupdate feature built into GameEx is still corrupting the software? It's been doing this for the last 3 or 4 updates. Tom, any ideas?
-
I gotta agree with my friend Adultery again here. Never heard of it, would be interested in learning more about it. Perhaps I'll check it out once I finish my other 2 dozen projects. Heheh.
-
Its been a couple of months since I downloaded the torrent. I don't remember where I got it, and I don't have any dats in my rom folder. Guess I'm screwed all around. I'll just have to wait until somebody releases a new, up to date torrent.
-
Stupid repetitve question... Did you download the update from the web or did you let GameEx autoupdate itself? If you let it autoupdate, that's probably your problem. I couldn't get GameEx's attract mode to work at all until I just downloaded and installed overtop of the existing installation. If you DID download it directly from the web, then I'm lost same as you.
-
I'm so lost. I don't know what set I have. I remember I started out downloading a torrent with about 1700 roms in it. Then I started downloading new roms via the alt.binaries.emulators.gameboy-advance newsgroup. I've been doing that ever since. I guess there are multiple versions of the release list. There's a GoodName version that's severely out of date, there's the No-Intro set, a TOSEC set, and offline set, that advance-power set HK provided, the pocketheave set I provided.. LOL. They're all different!! If you look at one set's list, say rom #2250, it's one title, while on all the others, they're all different! And none of them match the name and number that I have! Whats the deal!?
-
I'm with Adultery.. just upgraded to Firefox 2.0 last week. Haven't had any problems yet. My dad in his room across the hall was upgrading to IE 7 and had a hell of a time just trying to get it to download. He found a way to "cheat the system" but he said it's severely unstable and always locking up on him. I'm perfectly happy with Firefox. The only problem with FF is some java things don't work exactly right. In those cases, its usually something I don't desperately need to see/use anyway.

Ok guys, I downloaded a huge torrent containing (almost) all of the GoodNamed & GoodMerged Rom Sets all in one. This has given me a whole bunch of roms to sort out and get emulated through GameEx. It is my intention to get every single one. And with a new job and a bigger harddrive, I hope to get every system eventually. {I'm EVIL} So anyway.. I'll be adding a config for each one of these that doesn't already exist... Here's the one for Miles Gordon Technology Sam Coupe... -------------------- #01 - Download the SimCoupe emulator from here: http://www.simcoupe.org/download.html #01a - This tutorial assumes you've downloaded "SimCoupe-1.0-Win32.zip"... #02 - Extract files to destination of your choice. #03 - Run SimCoupe #04 - Go into Tools->Options-Joystick and configure the device you will be using (if any). #05 - Press [ALT]+[ENTER] to put the emulator in full screen mode. #06 - Move your roms to a folder located within the SimCoupe path (I just moved the GoodSamC folder into the root path..) #07 - Open up GameEx setup Wizard, chose custom, then Emulator Setup and click [NEXT] #08 - On a blank emulator line (27 in my case), configure your setup similar to mine above with your own folder names. Artwork paths are up to you. Rom path should go to your rom folder, not a "unzipped" folder. #09 - COMMAND LINE: SimCoupe.exe -disk1 "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" -autoboot yes #10 - Important factors for page 2... No sending Keys, No Desktop, No mapped file, No also Launch #11 - Important factors for page 3... All Blank, use 7-Zip/GoodMerge ONLY if you have that romset, screensaver is optional #12 - Enjoy! I'd be happy to help out, since I spent about 3 hours trying to figure out the easiest way to get it to work. I had trouble getting the fullscreen working. Apparently the built in command line to go fullscreen doesn't work. I also had trouble getting the emulator to start up the disk after the emulator loaded. I got it to insert the disk by the disk1 command, but it wouldn't run it. Turns out, the command line -autoboot was all I needed. According to the documentation, this is set to a default of <yes> anyway, but once I added it to the command line, it worked very smoothly. -------------------- Left to configure from torrent (x's are done): [ ]Amstrad CPC (GoodCPC v2.02) [x]Atari 2600 (Good2600 v1.00) [x]Atari 5200 (Good5200 v2.01) [x]Atari 7800 (Good7800 v2.04) [x]Atari Jaguar (GoodJag v2.01) [x]Atari Lynx (GoodLynx v2.01) [ ]Bandai WonderSwan (GoodWSx v2.01) [ ]Channel F (GoodChaF v2.01) [x]Colecovision (GoodCol v2.01) [ ]Commodore 64 PSID Music Images (GoodPSID v0.999.4) [ ]General Computer Vectrex (GoodVect v1.06) [x]Mattel Intellivision (GoodINTV v2.03) [ ]Memotech MTX (GoodMTX v1.02) [x]Miles Gordon Sam Coupe (GoodSamC v2.03) [ ]NEC PC-Engine [TubroGrafx-16] (GoodPCE v1.09a) [x]Nintendo Entertainment System (GoodNES v2.01) [ ]Nintendo Virtual Boy (GoodVBoy v2.01) [x]Sega Game Gear (GoodGG v2.01) [x]Sega Master System (GoodSMS v2.01) [ ]SFC-SNES SPC Music Images (GoodSPC v2.01) [x]SNK NeoGeo Pocket (GoodNGPx v2.01) [ ]Spectravideo MSX 2 (GoodMSX2 v0.999.3) [ ]Spectravideo MSX (GoodMSX1 v0.999.3) [ ]Tandy Color Computer (GoodCoCo v0.999.5) [ ]Tangerine Oric (GoodOric v2.01) [ ]Thomson MO5 (GoodMO5 v1.00) [ ]Watara SuperVision (GoodSV v2.01)

Man if you're willing to do the work, i'd love ya. The best place I've found so far is: http://releases.pocketheaven.com/?system=g...on=release_list They are in release order... which means they go 0001, 0002, 0003, up to the latest which is 2568. My plans were, eventually, to save all their images. Make a folder for snaps, titles, and boxes (haven't seen any carts...). Then save each image in their number form. 0001.jpg for screen, 0001.jpg for title, 0001.jpg for box.. then go on to 0002 and so on. That way GameEx would read them in the correct order. Then whenever Nintendo stops making GBA games and starts only making NDS games, I'd find a good merge tool and merge them. My merge would be as such so that when you choose to play "Super Mario Advance", it would load up in the menu showing "0002 - Super Mario Adance (JP), 0025 - Super Mario Advance (USA), and 0050 - Super Mario Advance (EU)". I thought that would be cool so that you could then see the order they were released in. But, if you DO decide to rip the artwork, however you do it... could you zip up each individual folder (snap/title/box) and share it with us? There's a lot of people who would grab it from ya.

I think you're just seeing leftovers from an old build. I remember something about Tom fixing it so it only stores 1 image now instead of lots like what you have. I'd just erase them and see if you have any problems. My guess is that you won't, and if you do, a simple reinstall will fix whatever problem you have. But I seriously doubt you'll have any problems.. Once way to be sure is to check the creation or modified dates of the files. If they're recent, like today.. then I'm completely wrong. But if you've been staying up to date with new releases, you'll probably find them all pretty old.

Old topic, but I gotta reopen it... Does anybody have anything working for the Amstrad CPC? Which emulator and how do you have it config'd? I've tried WinAPE, Caprice, and CPE. They all look like great emulators, but I can't get them to load up a game from command line. I suppose we could build a wrapper for WinAPE if HK was willing. But the question is, does someone have something else working already? And if not, is there a demand from others for HK to busy himself with building a wrapper?
