I think our problem here is that GameEx may be pulling down a "working" game list from the internet somewhere when the game list is updated. Those that aren't working, are automatically not included. I suggest this because I noticed to that I don't have Star Wars Arcade or Star Wars Trilogy either, but I have the roms. I looked in my Mame32+ GUI, and it doesn't show up in the working games list. However, if you go down to the list for "non-working" it shows a lot of games there, of which both Star Wars games were present. I tested them, and they launched ok, but they obviously weren't "working". So my suggestion here is to either set the option to "NO" where it says "Only working games". That should help, but you'll run into games that aren't working. Another thing, which we'll have to wait for Tom's confirmation on, is to find out how/where GameEx is getting it's games list from. It's obviously not just pulling a directory listing from the /roms directory. I don't know what else to suggest. Now for a slightly on/off topic discussion of my own problem. I'm not able to play games that ARE listed in my game list. For example.... Pac-Man. It's listed under ALL MAME GAMES, but when I play it, it just goes to a black screen, waits about 3 seconds, then returns back to the list. I get the same thing happening in my screensaver/attract mode. Of all the games I have, it seems like only about 300 actually work through GameEx.

BUG REPORT I was reconfiguring my MAME setup, and had to rebuild the game list. When it completed (I was reading GameEx forums at the time) it sat at it's home menu then went into screen saver mode. Only problem, it just opened up the MAME Games list, and randomly jumped to a game and sat there. In this case, it was 2-on-2 Open Ice... then it jumped to another random game in the list, but still stayed on the list. Almost list I was selecting to play a game, but not entering into it. After the 2nd jump, the screen would go black (like it's about to actually load the game) then sit for a few seconds, and return back to the list. It's done that 5 times now, and I haven't pressed anything. I currently have my attract mode set to 1 minute then change every 2 minutes with no videos. I posted a message a few days ago about the screensaver not behaving correctly. This is just another example. The new bug this time is that it will either open a blank screen then return to list, or it will just jump to a random entry in the list and not start it. Tom, please check into this.

I believe Fusion is like a rework of the gens emulator. Try editing the config file for Fusion and make it force full screen. Then to keep it from toggling, set the properties to the file as READ ONLY. I haven't setup any gameboy emus yet so I can't help ya there.

I think you're looking for the option in the configurator to ENABLE EMULATOR

This may just be a problem on MY end, but I thought I'd post a thread asking for other's input. Whenever I run the screensaver, it seems to exit back to GameEx randomly. I've also noticed that when it does this, it always does it after the blue ROM LEGALITY screen (where you press left/right). Is it possible the ROM is corrupted and the screensaver crashes? If so, why is the game showing up in my list if it's unplayable? I have built the game list using the verify roms, so everything listed should be working right? If the ROM is ok, then why is the screensaver exiting back to GameEx? It's not a real major problem, I'm just curious because I don't think it's supposed to do that.

You bet.. the thread was kinda old, so I rebumped it with my confirmation, and headkaze's too.. glad to see we're not alone and that it's fixed now. Thanks Tom!

I haven't seen any new updates since the autoupdate bug... that might be why you haven't gotten any.

CHD's need to be in nested folders, uncompressed. IE; AREA51 should be in /ROMS/AREA51/AREA51.chd. The capitalization has to match the rom, so in that example, /ROMS/AREA51.zip would work, but /ROMS/area51.zip wouldn't. Also make sure you refresh the list in MAME and can play them through MAME before trying in GameEx. Once you can, update the game list in GameEx and you should be all set.

I just noticed I don't have icons either. I'm using Mame32plus and the icons do show in the GUI. The path is /mame/icons and this matches in both the "directories" of Mame32Plus and GameEx. I uninstalled/deleted the GameEx folder and reinstalled it, rebuilt/updated the game list, and still nothing. I think there's a new bug in 6.36.

Well, before I looked at the answer, I got the first 2 and last one right.

Completed Feature Requests (Moved)
hansolo77 replied to jr9770's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
That would be a nice feature, but I don't think it's something Tom would be responsible for creating. The descriptions of the roms come from a database file compiled from somebody else. I think it's called history.dat. I think that file is updated whenever MAME is, and Tom's program just calls it. For pinball the same would be true here. Somebody would have to make a database for Tom's program to call. It's not something internal to the program. -
I just found a whole bunch of really good pics here: Amiga 500 Commodore 64c Amstrad CPC 464 Sega Mega Drive [PAL version of Genesis] Sega Mega Drive Model II [PAL version of Genesis] Atari 1040STF 16-bit computer Commodore 64 Sinclair 48K ZX Spectrum computer Commodore Amiga 500, 16-bit computer (Different background is all) Commodore Amiga 500, 16-bit computer (Different screen and includes joystick) The guy that made these (Bill Bertram) has a few others in his "gallery" including some logos, and Motherboards if you'd be interested in those.

MyThemes has come a long way since Beta, and it's always getting better. I highly recommend it to anybody who wants to theme their MCE.

Ok, I put up my icons. They're still in PSD format so you can remove the edit's I've been doing to them. http://rapidshare.de/files/23911276/icons.zip.html

Hey amos, what program do you work with? I use Adobe Photoshop CS2 9.0. If you use photoshop too, I have a few images for ya... if not, I can make them transparent png's like you have. Let me know. I've been working on getting my own hires pics too, but since you beat me too it, I'll give you the ones you're missing, ie; N64 and SNES. I have 2 versions of the SNES.

If you have 'Show Create Snaps' enabled in the configurator, just click on create snaps from within GameEx. It will give you an option there to make snaps or videos.
-
Yeah, if I try going a little smaller, it becomes too pixelated and hard to read. BUG? Whenever I load GameEx now, the attract/screensaver is running. If I hit a key on the remote, etc, it then loads up the GameEx intro and sound, then goes to the start menu. [[EDIT]] I think I found where it's messed up.. I could be wrong though. I looked in the /config/gameex.ini file and found a section called "# Specifiy a video to play at astartup" and it was setup to "Startupvideo=D:\!GAMES\_MAME\videos" which is where I have all my video snapshots. I guess when I was configuring everything, I didn't read the bubble info about what that option was for. It works! Basically it played a random video before the loading up GameEx, just like it's supposed to! Hehe. I cleared it out via the configuration program so it's not doing it anymore. Nevermind about the bug!

OK here's those screen shots I promised.... This one is just the menu for the emulator. With all the categories available, it makes the screen way to cluttered. This one is once I enter the game. Why does it have all the categories still listed here? I think it would look much better without the categories being listed here. It would let the snaps been much larger. Thanks for the acknowledgment. I figured you already knew, I just wanted to throw out my 2 cents.. ya know. [[edit]] Maybe just lowering the font size of the categories would help. They're larger than the other menu on the right...

I've noticed in the last 2 or so builds the new video snaps creation tool. I've not yet tried it, but thats not the reason for this post. I wanted to request that a possible future build have the ability to MOVE the create snaps option BACK to where it used to be on the menu with the game buttons. My screen is getting so cluttered and full of all these menus, and options, and categories, etc, that my snapshot is pretty much gone. Whats the point in having a screenshot if you can't see it? This may not be important for people who are using high resolution monitors and such, but for those of us who are using a TV with 60hz refresh rates, the screen is too crowded. I'll attach a screenshot tomorrow when I wake up to show my point. Basically, the screenshot is about 10% of the screen, which is not my idea of a good use of space. I'm using the Default-Default theme with the Trebuchet MS font set at BIGGEST. The resolution is 800x600. If I go to 640x480, all I get are clipped buttons, which is totally rediculous. Thanks!

oh yeah.. guess I read your message to fast.. you did say "newest mame on such machine today".. I guess I saw "newest mame on the machines today"... hehe.

using downloaded snapshots - must i rename my roms?
hansolo77 replied to studmeister's topic in General
They have to match... Kinda tricky, but if you download roms in GoodSet format, most screenshots use that format too. -
Heh I hate those kinda people. I'm bad enough with lol's and stuff. [edit] oh yeah, can't forget the smileys :)
