  1. Hehe lost another one to Ditech, eek! I mean "ROMS IN FOLDERS".
  2. Man that crummy mess of M.E.S.S. I would love to be able to play 5200 roms on it. But for some reason the renderer for that just plain sucks. I'm using another program. I think it was called a800win or something. I'm not at my emumachine right now.
  3. Thats because that option doesn't work. I don't know if ever did. But right now, it's just place holder taking up space. We're always trying to get Tom to fix it, but he's busy, so we have to wait. In the mean time, don't use it and look at the GoodMerge/7zip option instead.
  4. ...I've never been able to see 6140 games..
  5. Just throwing this out there... If you're onboard video is better than your expansion card, why were you using the expansion card in the first place? I mean, I can understand wanting to have the GPU do the work, and allowing system RAM to be used for the CPU more than rendering. But I mean, if your expansion card isn't even DX7, why bother?
  6. Why are there so many Street Fighter games? Why are there so many Mario games? Why are there so many [insert game here]? Maybe because it's popular? Different variations on a game for different styles of play and differing "versions". For instance. The very first Street Fighter was more like a "Streets of Rage" game for the Sega Genesis. (Don't quote me on that, I'm just pretty sure that right) Now it's got X number of versions, variations, and styles of play. From puzzle games, to flat out tournament fighting, to crossovers with Marvels comics and the like. The same is true with Mario. More, different levels. More characters. New stories. If every thing was the same, it'd be really boring if all the did was improve graphics. To put it another way. Why are there so many Solitaire card games? Its the same thing. MOST people associated Solitaire with the classic Klondike game. But there are TONS of versions and variations. Like Tri-Peaks, Freecell, and Spider. So with Mahjong, it's the same deal. You have Shanghai (match 2 tiles to clear them) and those more advanced (yet to learn) versions with 2 people playing a game of war (broadly spoken, as I said I've never learned it). So there's my 2 cents.
  7. The error looks like it's in the DirectX. Check and make sure that's up to date. Have you tried to play MAME seperately from GameEX? Also, make sure you the .NET framework versions 1.1 and 2.0.
  8. Yeah thats exactly how GENS used to work. I switched to Kega Fusion since some peers elsewhere said GENS sucked, and the fact that Fusion is still being updated is a plus.
  9. The extracted rom filter is exactly what we need I think. Perhaps Tom could implement this into the next build? Basically, we just want to filter (as needed) the extracted files from a 7zip so it'll only show what file the emulator needed. In your trials with Alcohol, how did you run everything? You mentioned you made an iso and then 7zipped it. Did you just configure gameex to extract the 7zip and launch the iso, or did you have it mount the iso as a virtual drive and then run fusion to boot from that drive? If the latter, fusion IS capable of reading cue sheets, iso, and bin files. However, if you launch just the bin, it thinks it's a Genesis game and crashes. But if you launch the cue or iso, it knows its a CD. Given that, I'm looking into possibly using CD images in bin/cue format rather than iso/mp3. That will let me have better sound quality as it's a flat out IMAGE and not a compressed audio rip. Also, a bin/cue 7zip would only have 2 files in it, both duplicates under GameEx, but you would just run the second one (if it lists in alphabetical order). Ultimately though, if we can get some sort of extracted rom filter, that would be perfect.
  10. I don't know how much playing around you've done but I've found 1 possible solution. 7zip DOES work. However, not the way I'd like. What I did, I entered the first game folder (/ROMS/3 Ninjas/) and created a 7zip of the entire folder (12 files, iso and mp3). I then moved that 7z file to the root rom folder (/ROMS/) and configured GameEx to use the 7z format. It detected the game instantly. After I entered the game, it brought up the next menu screen (about 3 seconds later). Here it listed all the files. There were all there though. Example: 3 Ninjas 02 3 Ninjas 03 /\/\/\/\/\/\ 3 Ninjas 12 3 Ninjas Apparently what is happening, GameEx extracts the 7zip file to it's temp folder, then just does a "dir *.*" to get the new list. Normally this would be ok, but since we're only looking for the iso file, it didn't exactly work. In fact, the way the files show, there's know way of even knowing which file is the correct one, because the list doesn't show the file extensions. So the next task is figuring out how, if possible, to only show the iso file. If we can do that, 7zipping the games isn't that big of a deal. Note to others, I HAVE ALREADY TRIED THE ROM FILTERS! So don't reply suggesting that. If I leave it blank, it shows the 7zip file. If I put in *.iso, it doesn't find anything. If I put in *.iso;*.7z or *.7z;*.iso it shows the the 7zip file but doesn't filter after unzipping.
  11. ROMS IN FOLDERS DOES NOT WORK Point blank, thats the reason. Everytime I see somebody suggest that, and then it doesn't work, it's the same reason. I've tried it on my end as well, and Roms in Folder just does not work. Your best bet is to either move everything out of their folders and put them in a root "rom" folder, or 7zip them and use GameEx's new 7zip functionality. It'll extract the 7zip file into a temporary directory, where you can then launch your rom from there.
  12. Well... your computer is a Celeron. That's your first problem. BUT, it's also a 3.2GHZ, which is way faster than my 2.1. I don't have any problems with my games. The next 2 things may be your obsticals. More RAM is always better, and in my case, I have 2 512 sticks, giving me 1024mb. Also, the video card (Even if you were able to play Quake 3) is kinda old. Most videocards on the market today have at least a minimum of 128 mb RAM on them. Mine has 512. So you may be having trouble with MAME due to the video card and the RAM. I only mention the Celeron bit because I'm disgusted with Celeron and will never buy one again, but your speed there shouldn't be a problem.
  13. Why is this guy even posting such a retarded topic? The forum isn't for bashing, it's for helping. If we had a FLAMING forum, then by all means let it out. But believe it or not, people use this, and love it. And I, for one, am getting sick and tired of hearing about stupid idiots complaining because it doesn't work for them. The front page of the website says very clearly that it is an MCE Plugin, not an MCE app. It's not designed to run ROMS. It's designed to be a FRONT-END. Perhaps you need to do some research and look up a wiki on the term. And you're right. If you don't like it, don't use it. But don't bash the program in the forum.. thats just showing your ignorance. I'm sure you didn't buy the program.. if you did, you really ARE stupid. You should always try before you buy when the option is available. And I love the little fact you gave about MAME for Windows 3.1. That's just funny. If you are trying to run your ROMS on a 15 year old OS, you're SOL (if I have to expalin that acronym to you, you truely are stupid). If not, you'll probably find that your ROMS on your CD from 15 years ago are out of date, and probably ARE unplayable. You need to search the internet, download some RECENT versions of the ROMS, a RECENT version of MAME, and just use the fricken built in GUI for it. If you get tired of that, THEN give GameEx a go. Dammit now I'm all pissed again. This was gonna be such a nice day too.
  14. Well what's going on right now, I have the rom filter blank. That has always worked for me. The files are *.7z. When going through GameEx, it lists the games. I then enter a game, and GameEx extracts them to a folder within the ROMS folder (called something like "unzipped-7zips"). After you pick the the version you want to play, it attaches that new ROMPATH and ROMFILE to the batch, and off it goes. This works on everything I have GoodMerged so far. Only with this one, it goes through and launches the emulator, but the emulator isn't loading the ROM. I did a debug run, and it IS sending the correct information. So I'm really stumped. After the emulator loads, I can go up to FILE and load up a rom. Interestingly, the path it opens up first IS the "unzipped-7zip" folder. So wierd. Currently, I'm running version 0.95. There are a few newer versions out, but I read on this forum that this is the most recent version that still supports command line. Anything newer doesn't. The command line I'm using is: PT.exe "[ROMPath]\[RomFile]" Here is my config (however it doesn't work obviously): [Emulator_6] Enabled=True STARTPAGENAME=Atari Jaguar Games TITLETEXT=Atari Jaguar StartPageLogo= ROMFilter= RomsInFolders=False RomPath=D:\!GAMES\Atari Jaguar\ROMS SnapPath=D:\!GAMES\Atari Jaguar\!screens WorkingPath=D:\!GAMES\Atari Jaguar MapKeys=True WaitBeforeKeys= SendKeys= ReplaceDash=False ReplaceUnder=True Capitals=True RemoveBrackets=False ShowDesktop=True Debug=False MAPFile= AlsoLaunch= Command=PT.exe "[ROMPath]\[RomFile]" OLDatZip= TitlePath=D:\!GAMES\Atari Jaguar\!titles BoxPath=D:\!GAMES\Atari Jaguar\!box LaunchBefore= LaunchAfter= CartPath=D:\!GAMES\Atari Jaguar\!cart configFile= ExcludedFiles= CustomBackground= PlayMusic= PCGame= DATABASE=JAGUAR DumbyValue= GamesIn7Zips=True

    Atari Jaguar

Hey all, I've been working on GoodMerging all my ROMS and have hit a stump. I was able to play Atari Jaguar games with Project Tempest before merging. Now it doesn't work. The emulator will load but it's not receiving the ROM file. If I go to "open" it goes into the correct folder (ie, the Unzipped-7zips folder). So why isn't it getting the file? Any ideas?
  16. Well, I know it DOESN'T work with MAME.. hows that?
  17. I just discovered that the problem I'm having does NOT affect my gamepad controller. It only affects my keyboard and my MCE remote. Go figure.
  18. You're probably on the right path Marker007. When in doubt, just uninstall and reinstall. I don't know what all is stored in the registry, but you might have to go in there and check to make sure there are no "scragglers" left behind after uninstalling. Just like when you delete the folder.
  19. I got 1gb ram, and it the animation bar seems to be normal. I know, its crazy. Everything works fine, just the actual navigation seem really slow.
  20. I noticed a longer slowdown when loading game lists, but the problem is global within the program. It starts the moment the Start Page loads. The animations are fine once I select an option. I know about that sticky, and really don't think it's related to anything in there. The reason is, I've never had this problem before. It's only recently happened. And in fact, I don't think it did it with this version before today. I just added a second rom set in GoodMerge format, and thats when I noticed it, when I wanted to test that set.
  21. See? If you had did what I suggested first (turn on the debug mode) you could have found that your path was wrong instantly the first game you tried to ran. Honestly, I don't know why I try to help people. I also just noticed too that your have the "Roms in Folder: Yes" which Adultry found. I didn't read this thread till now, and I think the folder problem and your path problem was the issue. I really wish Tom would fix that "Roms in Folder" part. It'd solve a lot of problems. Either fix it, or get rid of it I say.

    GoodMerge

** UPDATE ** I tried to create snaps, in an effort to fix the problem, only to have GameEx crash. It doesn't really crash crash I guess, but more like, I click on the Create Snaps button, and it just goes back to the list, without any errors or what not. It doesn't get stuck either, it's like the Create Snaps is mislinked or something. This may be a problem with GoodMerge, so thats why I posted it here.
  23. I may be wrong, but thats what this forum is here for right? Ever since this new version, my GameEx has been EXTREMELY slow and unresponsive. I've found that I have to hold down my arrows before the program recognizes the input and updates the screen to the next menu option. If I don't time it just right, it goes flying off and beyond my wanted option, causing me to hold the opposite direction. This is true with every key, be it a letter (to jump to a spot in the list), arrow keys, enter, escape, and is also true with all my controllers and even the MCE Remote. I've never had a problem with GameEx doing this before, so I know it has to be something recent. The only change that I've made is I've started replacing my roms with GoodMerge versions. If GoodMerge is causing the slow down, I'll go back to the way it was. If it's not, then what else could it be?

    SEGA CD

Cool thanks Adultery. The 2 of us should be able to find out the best method. And it'll work great with your website too.

    GoodMerge

Ok, so I entered the GoodMerge realm yesterday and had a bust. I couldn't get my ROMS to show up at all without extracting them. I thought I had everything set right, the rom path and filter was right and I had the option enabled to use GoodMerge. As it turns out, I didn't have 7zip installed, so that was keeping me from having it work. So the #1 solution for everybody is: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE 7ZIP INSTALLED. I was reading about GoodMerge on their homepage and it looks like it requires 7ZIP. Apparently, this is the compressor they use. You can use winrar, winace, winzip, etc to extract, but you must have a command line version available for GoodMerge to use when making the sets. If you download a premade set, you're limited to using what the maker used. 9 times out of 10, that 7zip. So make sure you have that. Now on to my new problem... My first set to enable GoodMerge with was Gameboy. I had downloaded a torrent of the complete Mono and Color sets merged. Once I got everything working, and started playing games, I noticed a problem specific to GameEx. I don't know how GameEx looks for screenshots, but apparently it does a very loose 'keyword' search. For example, I went to look at Tetris. Nothing fancy, just the plain old mono-colored blocky Tetris. When I got to that in the list, the screenshot was wrong. It was a Tetris screenshot, but not the correct one. The screenshot that was showing was actually for "Magical Tetris Challenge" (a Disney/Mickey Mouse version). At first I thought "meh whatever" but then I looked around some more, and there are a TON of mismatched games to screens. Some of them are so far off, it would be a Mario game for Pokemon, etc. So why is it doing this?
