The GameEx Database Project

It is not pro, pro is listed in TOSEC, Capcom Vs. SNK - Millennium Fight 2000 is not. This is the same name in all 3 releases. so, I believe that the tosec name refers to Capcom Vs. SNK - Millennium Fight 2000. Even on the video you posted, you will see the subtext of the title. I was only having a grumble about the Saturn toesc in general. It is not well maintained and contains spelling mistakes on jap names, missing data, and duplicated roms (razor freestyle being a good example). Oh, and it also misses absolutely hundreds of games... Ohhh 3-4 hundred are not present that I know of. Perhaps the TOSEC was abandoned when it was realised that almost EVERY iso rip is different (from original rip - corrupt audio, converted from one format to another, re-injected mp3 audio, missing cd audo, etc) as to make it pointless to try to keep it up to date? Who knows? All I want to do is make sure the DB's I create are as perfect as possible. This is also a good example of how nice it will be when Tom allows GameEx's rom list to display the generic name field from the DB. This way "Capcom Vs SNK" would be displayed correctly as "Capcom Vs. SNK - Millennium Fight 2000" without having to rename a tosec set. This would also alow characters that cannot be used in a windows filename to be used. Quotes, \ : etc... -
In GameEx Avanced configuration, go to the emulator you set up for the c64, you will see a line saying "Import Emulator", use the pulldown menu to select "PC Commodore 64 (CCS)" and select IMPORT. All you need to do now is edit your paths and all should work. If you roms are zipped, remember to enable zip support for the emulator.

Somehow there is a problem with how the matching works. If the goodname does not match the filename of the rom - no match is found. The roms I am using are in TOSEC format (Saturn) and if the TOSEC is the same as the Goodname (No-intro appears to make no difference) then a match is found. If Goodname does not match the TOSEC (that is the same as the filename) then the match is rejected even it the TOSEC matches the filename. Also - a strange one this... I have a db for the saturn (still being updated along with a Dreamcast one) and 5 from the bottom of the list is a game called "Virtual Hyldide" in all three naming fields (exactly the same - and this works everywhere else?), I also have the rom named "Virtual Hyldide (J).7z" that perfectly matches the db entries (have copied & Pasted till my fingers bled) and no-matter what I do, I cannot get it to match.. Perhaps this is related. Just re-checked and there are 2 entries that are perfect matches to the rom and neither tie up with the DB? Don't know what other infomation to give? I posted here as I thought it was better than the original GameEx release thread. Hold on - did you do anything in the 9.41 release. Still using 9.40 as I though the latest was only for LCD plugin? -

Sorry, there has never been a game called 'capcom vs. snk' - I told you I'm a perfectionist TOSEC lists Capcom Vs. SNK (2000) Capcom Vs. SNK - Millennium Fight 2000 Pro (2000) Capcom Vs. SNK 2 - Milionaire Fighting 2001 (2001) See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SNK_vs._Capcom_(series) This is the game you linked to: http://www.snk-capcom.com/reviews/capcom/Naomi/cvs.htm So, Capcom Vs. SNK (2000) must really link to Capcom Vs. SNK - Millennium Fight 2000 Ha! -

Just a note while working on the Dreamcast DB, A warning to all, TOSEC is a terrible dat system.. The amount of errors in the Saturn Tosec is silly, not just years that are out, double entries (Freestyle Scooter & Razor Freestyle Scooter), also games that are nothing (Capcom Vs. SNK - there was not a game called just that? - though it contains them all?).. Oh well, just grumbling... -
Refering to X68000, I can't remember the emulators I tried (though there are only a couple i belive), but MESS is not worth worrying about at the moment. Too many fail to work. The other emu's have no (at last check) command line options, and even if they did - you would need to parse all discs/sides at launch (sometimes 8+) to allow the games to run. X68000 does support many drives though .. Wonderfull system though. I have 2 personally and Strider is GREAT.
-
I have tried a few times, and several x68000 emus. I could not get them to run and gave up in the end. There also is the problem of multiple discs (and sides) that need to be mounted. It needs as really good wrapper to mount all discs required and to launch emu, and execute boot.. I will prob get back to looking at that at some stage myself. I am just far to busy at the moment. Shame as its such a good machine....

Well done clever clogs.. Updated saturn (AGAIN) HK: [Console] Sega Saturn v1.105 (Flash) *Received* -
I think i have worked it out. It is to do with the extra data you added to each emu for selecting rom type (good, nointro, tosec). When that version was installed, all was ok. When you then did the update that removed this option, emulator setups disapeared (cannot work out why them ones vanished). Re-applying the backup gameex.ini works and restored them. I tried again, installed the rom select version, set an emu to one db type, saved and the updated to .41, again the emu's had gone (not all of them though?). I replaced the update ini and all returned to normal. This has happened before where the update ini would not restored them. I guess at that stage (i belive it was with zip support - can not remember) whatever the update changed in the emu ini's was modified further in the next release (not removed as in this case).. Well... I hope that helps, at least i can replicate it!
-
Silly question, did you set all the rom paths/executable paths in mame settings (gameex) and then use the update roms? If so, you are really best to use a standard version of mame (a command line one).
-
CCS64 will autoload and run discs and tapes straight from GameEx. In the config section there is a config to do this using zipped files, or within the advanced config for gameex you can select commodore 64 (CCS) and import that setting your paths as required.

Had a little bit of spare time so done a PC Engine FX db. There are only 22 games listed at the moment (not that there are many anyway - 70 or so), but the db contains some of the BEST fx releases. Still, 22 is still 15 This had no dats to work from so the naming is spread across all 3 naming columns in the hope of catching most naming conventions (torrent name checked those present). And, I know that this one is not on my list of db jobs, but hey HK: [Console] NEC PC FX v1.007 (Flash) *Received* -

Just another update for the Saturn DB, All dates have been corrected to MM/DD/YYYY format. Some descriptions have been edited/extended. Japanese Shooters (mainly) have been added (in part). Game list now up to 524 titles. HK: [Console] Sega Saturn v1.096 (Flash) *Received* -
I will.. It is not normally a problem as you can use the updatebackup. The only time it is, is when gameex has had an update that adds new data to the ini. Then if you restore it, it fails
-
I would supply more info if I had any idea what or why? You should know me by now, I would have written a dissitation possibly with diagrams if i had a clue All I know is that I have my emus in alphabetical order and they disapear randomly from it? the ini was 122k before and 115k after the upgrade. Have included the ini before and after, hope that helps. I have restored the backup and all is ok, though i will say that last time this happened the backup did not restore anything, it caused gameex to fail on load. I just thought I would mention it.. gameex_ini.zip
-
In between the last few QUICK updates, I have just noticed that lots of my setup emulators have vanished - AGAIN.. This has happened a few times with updates (non automatic), random ones vanish. Just thought i would mention it!

That sounds like a good idea. Any chance of getting the editor to auto-correct the dates it polls. sometimes it get 9th june 1992, june 1992, 9/06/1996, etc.. got to update mine is the saturn one as they are in english format. Ps. cant do the spectrum db at the moment for the same reason as the c64 one - TOO many matches if brackets are totally ignored.. -
Thanks for your quick work - it's been really nice having this thing going on Ok, checked the latest... AND.... wait for it.... stand in line.... deep breath...., It works again... This is quite strange because the goodname for the 2 roms mentioned is the same as the tosec.. Whatever happened... Leave well alone Ok, next thing, dates As i said, some of the dates were not appearing. The reason is that mine are entered in british standard and you are reading them in american standard. This is fine, i will amend. so, the roms with a date of 30/01/1996 were marked as invalid and skipped. Though a lot of my roms were 07/11/1995 (though still DD/MM/YYYY) they would appear as valid and work. If you only enter the year, this works fine also. So, (for reference to other db creators) valid dates are MM/DD/YYYY or if day/month (month/day ) is not known, just entering the 4 digit year is valid. I will go through the db and re-do the release dates (is the full day month important? will it be used?) Again, thanks for your sterling work... (oops, too many full stops again )

Tom. Just a quick note. Something is wrong with the way you cache the files for the db. This is not just with the latest release, but also happens with earlier ones. I have just used the latest and several games that did match now do-not. As the cache only matches the files that are present and match the db, it is strange that i have an entry for a game that matches perfectly but has not cached any of the data. It has 100% cached the tosec name (or good, no-intro), but it has not added the name field or any of the data associated with it? What i can't understand is that it found a match and stored the file name that matched and then went off to the next match? This has been doing this for quite sone time and I have mentioned it before (problem with databases thread). This is not to do with the "..." problem as these files are not in the rom dir at the moment. Have deleted the cache file also for re-building. I thought for a minute that the problem may have related to the name field and dat names not matching, have checked and sadly it is not Here is a part of the dbcache file, -||-||--||-||--||-||-Akumajo Dracula X - Gekka no Yasoukyoku-||-||--||-||--||-||--||-||- Role-Playing-||-||-This is a traditional SNES-style RPG for the Sega Saturn. All it needs is the option in the emu config. In the list that has remove brackets, underscores, etc - have use gameex name true/false. I think you will find that most people would use it. I certainly would. It does enable a uniform and clean interface. I would like to see it, if only to play with.
-
Thinking about the name field. Do the checks as now, but... when a match is found, add not only the matched filename to the cache, but also the name field. Then when the cache is culled matching the cached filename, display the cached name field instead.
-
gosh, and i just did all that typing ah - but the name field is still relevant.
