What I meant regarding the name field is match (for example) to goodname and instead of displaying the goodname in gameex, display the data from the name field. This way non-dos chars can be displayed. I.e "Sega ages - volume 1" could be displayed as "Sega ages: volume 1", or "100 proof" could show "100% proof" within gameex. I do not mean for you to match to the name field, but to display the name field instead of the matched name in goodtools, tosec, etc. Headkaze could explain it better than I. With regards the matching of all 3 dats. Check goodname first, if it matches - store in your cache db as the match, if not, move on to No-intro and do the same, until the last. So - only bother with the first match that gets a hit. If none match ignore. I had to use a sytem like this when I was working on database software for offshore operating services to track inventories. Had to do this as the seamen never knew what to look for With regards populating missing fields with data from other dats. Ie filling the missing entries from tosec with goodname, this has a slight snag. Taking the saturn db as an example; this only contains tosec (there is no goodtool, no-intro), so I had to make names that follow the way the Tosec names files to get them to match. I then used the 2 spare fields to store slight variations on the names. I have made sure that ALL names are differnt across records so that you would have no problems with matching against all 3 Also, some systems have NO dats at all..... and again, other fields would have to be used to match other peoples possible naming conventions. I hope you can see that this would be an important move to do to make the db's work correctly. Oh, dates; they are all stored as DD/MM/YYYY (though Headkaze's bd software uses MM/DD/YYYY and scrapes in numerous formats ). I have also changed some to just the year, and they display fine ? From the editor side of it, Headkaze has used an alphanumeric input, whether these are converted to a date string on output to a mdb file - i have no idea! Pheeeeew!

Looking good. With the new databases, cant it just check against all 3 formats for a match to create the cached db? I only say this as LOTS of naming tools only cover some of the roms, hardly ever all. So, you do tend to end up with a collection either missing lots of roms, or a collection comprising the best of several. With the Saturn db, as it only has a TOSEC and that only contains about 170 games (the list at the moment is 507) I used the other 2 (goodtool and no-intro) to insert names that people may have chosen for roms not present in the tosec (over 330 - and there are MANY more) so that a match should be found. Now? if no name convention is selected for the emu, does it use all 3? Also, what are the chances of the next release (or just a interim test) of suporting the name field for display rather than displaying tosec, goodtool, or no-intro? With regards the saturn db, it does not always display the year (though it is present on all in the DB)? God - don't i go on, I will be wanting blood next Oh, The history page is wonderful. had a real good read on several of them (But - and you knew that was coming - it does really show the problem of no paragraph breaks )

Great news. I will look at this later when I return home from work. Regarding the dreaded full-stop bug, For the moment; I have moved all games that end with one to another directory so that I can test the databases. The newline (paragraph) thing is not overly important but does make things look a lot more professional rather than a blob of text. Perhaps this could be noted that it may/will be added so that other DB worker ants can make use of the function. Please look at the new saturn db to see how it looks. The biography feature is a wonderful idea that I personally can't wait to look at.. Oh, will the new version include support for the display of the name field rather than the goodname? Also, Is it worth including a note at the top of this post relating to the syntax of the databases for reference? Again, thanks for all your work Tom. P.s. Just to annoy Headkaze, Updated the Saturn DB to over 500 now, just mainly to include some of the great Japanese games that I have (especially Shooters). Also, had another check through the Descriptions and found a couple of mistakes and extended several more. (I think i will put the Saturn one to bed for a while for now). Will upload it soon! (sore fingers) -
I believe that you would be better off waiting. Though, if you want to add the games to your own db, it is not hard to do. Do remember to rename your db file to something else as GameEx will overwrite it when installing an update. The new db's are coming, but they will take a long time. There are 10's of thousands of games to input across the databases. To give you an idea, I have just finished at sega saturn one containing only 477 games that took over 20hours spit over 3 days.

I'm afraid that the tool is only available for those participating in the project. Headkaze is looking for people to contribute who have a good knowledge of gameex and syntax in general. If you are interested in helping (lots of work to do) then PM Headkaze and have a word with him. -
My god! I thought of something and was RIGHT!

I dont really understand what you mean, but... What if user 1 & 2 add a favourite for the same game? or are you implying a binary string (say 8 users, 1=user 1, 2=user 2, 3=user 1+2, 5=user 1+3, etc)?

Sega Saturn Test DB. At last, a complete DB for the Sega Saturn. The database contains 477 Saturn games, all with complete data. descriptions contain paragraph breaks, that are not supported in GameEx as yet, to make them easier to read. Hurrah: I got the first DB done Please PM if any problems (who-ever is checking these?). HK: [Console] Sega Saturn v1.063 (Flash) *Received* -
I have to admit, Ps2 emulation has come a long way. Sorry, but I was comparing my speed as in using high compatability and timing. Thus to leave it to emulate as close as possible to original. Have not got Gradius to try. will look for that as sounds interesting. Games run faster when they do not have to handle too much geometry. Looking at the processor meter, Pcsx2 does spread itself across all cores, but, as you point out, never reaches max on any. There is a good 50% worth of processor left sitting idle. This does lead me to believe that 60fps emulation is not too far off if the cores are all used. Fingers crossed.

Looking good. Hope to get the Saturn finished today. The only other problem is the way GoodBase roms work (being "name (number)"). Tons of c64 games will be missed if the bracked value is not matched. As I said, this really only affects GoodBase names. A lot of work is being done to make the databases as perfect as possible, and this really does need to be addressed. Also, GameEx also needs to poll the Goodname and the No-intro for matches. Thanks again for all your wotk/help on this project. -

Thanks You are an absolute star. -
I have a core 2 quad 9300 (at 3.5ghz) and a 9600gx2 graphics card. Videos are no problem and most run at full speed. Running Simpsons Road Rage results in between 30-38fps (in game) and 45-55fps during the menu. The motherboard is the latest triple sli asus x38 chipset and I also have 4gig of matched DDR3. So, I am a bit confused over how you get frames of 100+ unless this is in a game with static backgrounds and dialogue (FFX), try a game that uses 3D fully (as in Road Rage). I would love to see a video of your frame rates.

Oh well - that was worth a try. sometimes a negitive number appears in the screen res settings and this can cause these symptons. Sorry, but i cannot think of anything else?

It has not crashed i believe. If you have gameex in a window, minimise to taskbar, then close it; next time you run it, it disapears. Alt-tab will not get it back. If this is a similar error, open gameex.ini in notepad and look for windowwidth and windowheight. hopefully you will have them set to -32768 or similar. change them to windowwidth=640 windowheight=480 save, and try again. This MAY be related?? Who knows?

Tom, any idea on the '...' problem? Nearly finished the Saturn DB now, just 26 tricky ones left to do. Can't really test it correctly because of the 'NiGHTS into Dreams...' problem, but will upload it tomorrow for checking. BBC micro next (1541 left to do ) Oh! the joy. EDIT: going through Saturn db (was complete) looking for all games that are not in the TOSEC. Finding quite a few. Also checking all descriptions to make sure the syntax is correct. Noticed that TOSEC quite often makes mistakes in the year of release. They should all be correct in the database, taking the earliest release (be it j, u, or e). EDIT: Saturn 100% tomorrow. 476 entered. Will go through and add all the rest of the jap games at a later date. The db covers all Usa and Europe games and several classic japanese titles. -

It is not a problem with the new DB, switched back and the problem is still there. This at least explains the problem I had in an earlier post. -
Funnily, I was thinking that also last night when doing a saturn db. Some of the Jap roms have very long rom names. It would be nice if it worked like a lot of mp3 players, when you highlight the rom name it could then scroll left/right so all text can be read. Hopefully Tom will see this post and think it is a good idea. You have 1 vote from me

Bkenobi - Did you see the post before Starbucks? any ideas/have you known this???? -
I am sorry to say that I cannot find anything that could cause this - at least, nothing jumps out at me. Have you tried setting 'show desktop' to false (try it in pj64)..? What version of windows are you running?

try turning 'hide desktop' off in one of your emu configs.

Got a little problem with the database (Saturn) I have a Tosec name 'NiGHTS into Dreams (U)' and all data is entered in the mbd correctly (replicating in goodname at the mo also). NiGHTS into Dreams can be selected in the list of games within gameex but non of the info entered is displayed. If i then create 'NiGHTS into Dreams (U).7z' and switch the config to zipped, still nothing is displayed and selecting the game opens the usual window (box, manual, etc) but the rom is not displayed. Checking the 'Unzipped7-Zip' directory, that has no entries at all? Something is going wrong if the filename (after the ()'s are stripped) ends in a fullstop (or 3). Checking the map and db cache files I notice that the three fulstops have been replaced with 'â' in the map file, and 'â¦' in the db file (apears to have grabbed a ¦ from the map file). I know what you are gonna say! But yes, It is always me Ps. This also appears to confuse other entries. Some have wrong data and some display no data? Removing the Nights game resolves this? -
Thanks, but I got a plaster with Bob the Builder on it and a lollypop for being good.

You must be on PCP EDIT: I meant, because you are so quick PS. What happened to Cushion plugin v3? -
I am afraid i do not know why gameex does not exit cleanly when doing auto snaps. You could try editing to c64 config to change the mapkeys.? I really am at a loss... As I said.. Emumovies will have a c64 set at a later date, lots going on at the moment. That may well be the next project after the ZX spectrum set is complete.

Ok, will do (was going to anyway - na na na-na na) PS. On your next update can you please upgrade the cushion? The upgraded one has a slight horizontal lean.
