  1. Dont worry - got your joke how would you create a f art image anyway... Kirlain photography?
  2. Look, I have a keyboard made of Lego, and the O button is a bit on the unpredictable side.... Art/Image paths would have been better! TOM - can you change my topic heading please....?
  3. Tom..... (Sir!) I will gladly re-instate my personal bribing system.. Can I bribe you for :- Custom artwork/vid paths Flags/icons as in the "Flags drive me wild" topic Anything that will keep tempest happy I am always glad to donate cash for your work, part in appreciation/part for fun I/we undertand you are a busy man, and my/our only intention is to help with ideas to keep GameEx the leading media centre/front end and to help it be improved to the contentment of my own ends
  4. And a few more (sega related):- http://segahub.org/gallery2/main.php http://www.segagagadomain.com/ Magazine (comicbook and pdf) are fairly easy to locate on Usenet.
  5. 1. Asteroids Deluxe / Tempest (Arcade) 2. Radiant Silvergun / Ikuruga (Saturn/Dreamcast) 3. Willow (Arcade) 4. Virtua Racing (Arcade/32x/Saturn) 5. Dungeon Explorer (PC Engine) 6. Strikers 1945 (Saturn) 7. Tir Na Nog (Spectrum) 8. Warhawk (C64 - Co-writer) 9. 3D Monster Maze (ZX81) 10. Boulderdash (C64) They are some of my faves.
  6. I understand you can rename them, but if i rename Carts to CD's, this affects the other emu's. What would be nice is to have the ability to add your own artwork/snap paths. I personally would like to have one called REVIEWS as (i must have too much spare time) i have a large collection of dreamcast reviews from magazines as jpegs. These are all correctly named and would be great to be able to see what praise/panning a game you just played recieved in it's day. This would also help regards the ratings people would like to see. There are lots of places to get cds, box, etc. Esp.for the more 'CULT' systems. With regards Adverts/flyers and Reviews, these can easily be culled from the vast array of scanned magazines available. With regards "do you guys really have that much for each emulator?". The major thing about gameex is it is not just a simple launcher for a handful of emulators, it is a repository for all things emulated. Gameex is a wonderful tool to bring together nostalgic collections of a mis-spent youth. I love to have an emulator completely set up with Vidsnaps, Titles, Cases, Full database entrys, Cd's, Manuals, Carts, ETC. It is a joy to find a game and have all related material associated with it. I spend many many hours collating the infomation and scans. And it is always a pleasure to see the end results. I would just like to have a bit more flexibility in what Gameex displays for each rom. This can only be a benefit to all collectors (for surely that is what we all are?) god - don't i go on???
  7. Tom, Is there any way the emulator image paths could be made standard across all emulators. In mame we have the option of Flyers, but not in other emu's - I have a large collection of scanned game adverts that would be great to look at when picking a game. This would be ideal as a Flyers option in the emulator ini...? I use box to display CD fronts, is there anyway I could also have an option to display CD case rears without using photoshop on every image to merge them with the fronts.? I also use the heading Cartridges as a way of displaying the acual game CD's. Could emulator options have these paths added? Flyers CD - Front CD - Rear CD I know I go on, but would other users like these options? Oh... Did i mention the idea for general region/hack/prototype icons??
  8. That's correct! It could take the bracketed infomation and display an icon only if the relevent icon is available in the theme/media folder, displaying nothing if nothing is present. This would also add even more flexibility to V3 (V4?) themes. I think it is a great idea and am glad you agree. As I mentioned earlier, one of the downsides of removing bracketted text (via gameex options) is that you can no-longer tell what region a rom is. your list can sometimes display 3 roms of the same name with no indication of what is what? one may be a usa, one a euro, and the other may be the USA version but a prototype (alway nice to keep in the list). This way you could have a tidy graphical representation of your roms infomation. I must admit that I am getting a bit of a headache trying to be serious for so long... Be warned that I may explode soon! What do you think Tom?
  9. Like you, I tend to go for no-intro, but I will also turn to Tosec for some sets. The Only exceptin is iso's. With them I try to use gameex's mdb files for naming adding the region in brackets at the end of the filename. Unfortunatly not all dats cover all systems so you cannot use the same naming convention for all roms.
  10. PS2 runs between 35-40 fps, though most games are still unplayable due to graphic problems. Some games are better than others. Simpsons road rage runs at 42 fps (ave.) in game, though there is no road drawn
  11. NBA Maximum Hangtime runs at 143% on my home system..... Core 2 quad with 2 gig ddr3 and a 9800 GX2! HA
  12. Gameex will take the year data from the mdb database if your rom is named correctly. The database contains no infomation on the region of the game thouh or prototypes etc. Most rom naming tools and dats will add this infomation to the file name. It would be great if this could be used!
  13. I'm not entirely sure it is a flag, I think it is what gameex would look like with flags I belive it is a good idea thing wot was that i did said! Seriously, If the rom list display looked for bracketed text in the rom file, when a bracketed text item was found gameex could look in the theme/media directory for a file that matches the bracketed text and display it if present to the left (for regions) and to the right (for crack, hack, demo, prototype, etc) We could then have icons for what we would like to be displayed. I.e. "Bugs Bunny (1983) (Prototype) (U).a26" would locate (1983), (Prototype), and (U) then cross check for files (1983).png, (Prototype).png, and (U).png. For example (1983).png is not present but the other 2 are, resulting in a line in the gameex rom list of:- <FLAG> Bugs Bunny <PROTOTYPE_ICON> It would take milliseconds to check and I believe would make no noticable hit on performance. It would be a 10 minute coding job and (I believe) would add a great degree of flexibility to customising your rom lists. Perhaps just a emu flag could indicate whether the advanced list was allowed to be active on a system by system basis?? Tom, if you are reading this then I would love your comments, I believe i have had a good idea! and good ideas are few and far between from me. I usually have bad ideas... like, "let's give the condom a miss, honey", "Let's soften that ice-cream in the microwave", and the classic, "Of course I will sign my name there Mrs. Wedding Registra"..
  14. Think I found it, cant find the picture though 13th May, 2008 - GameEx 9.26 Fixes .lnk files not working in 9.25 When viewing by system in favorites the system image will now be displayed For registered users 7-Zip support has been extended to support zip files. Allowing zip support in emulators that don't support zips Flag ICONS are now shown when listing 7-zip goodmerge files on the game information screen Fixes memory leak when launching MAME with the Bypass setting turned on. This could stop GameEx working after a couple of days of continuously launching games (eg screensaver). Therefore its recommended to update to this version The default game pad exit combination has been changed to also include button 1 Seems it only works with 7-zip good merge files.. Bugger! That seems a bit limiting. If the code is there to do it, wouldn't it be better to open it up to all roms using a search for (U), (E), (J), etc in the file name and then displaying the relevent flag. I like to keep different versions of the same rom and sometimes a japanese adventure for example may have a very english name.. With the system as it is, you have no way of knowing what language the rom is until you run it (I like to have the bracketed text of as you end up with "ROMNAME [hack flash] (!) (E)" displayed unless you edit all your roms) So..... Tom, where are you... OH Tom! (seeing I failed with the alpha channels bribe, can I have a shot at this one?)
  15. Think i am going mad.. Im sure that a while ago somewhere on here the was talk about goodmerge/zip support that had a picture showing 4 versions of a game with a diddy little nationality flag next to them. How, what where? I have looked in one of the default themes and found (U).png, (E).png, etc in the media folder, So - what i wanted to know is how i get them to display? This would be great (though my roms are not goodmerged) as when I go to a page of roms, I may find 2 games that look identical because i have the 'remove text in brackets' option on for tidyness. It would be G-G-G-G-Great (in the sound of a talking tiger?) to have a Jap and Usa flag next to them. All my roms have (?) after them to indicate region? Am I mad as a Black & White Tempest Cabinet, or have i missed something, or is it all a dream? I thought perhaps GameEx would look for bracketed text in the filename and display an icon if the text existed.. I.e. "Sonic the Froghog (J).sms" - Gameex finds (J) and looks in current_theme/Media for "(J).png", if it exists; then display it in the list. If this was the case (scary dream flashbacks!), then also "Sonic the Froghog (J) [HACK].sms" could find "[HACK].png" in the media directory and display that (perhaps at the right hand side of the rom line... This would open all sorts of options for rom display and cover the occurence of (UAE) (5) etc... Or am I just being silly again Tom? I think i will have a little lie down and perhaps a cup of tea p.s. Had a brainstorming session with my 2 year old son and he has drawn a picture to better show what I am trying to say. I hope that helps :)
  16. You're really not missing anything. It does work, mine is a d64 file. Try to locate another version of it, I can't help you with that I'm sorry to say Little video of the game :- Test.zip
  17. Very early days yet! Just toying with the V3 themes at the mo. Looking to do a damaged leather, wood and rivet type affair.. (Test pic upped). Until we have full control of the skins (V4 themes Tom hopes) then I will just keep working on different graphics in readyness. Glad you like the theme and hope you get on ok with alpha paging (it is much quicker than the little arrows)
  18. I believe it is the second button on your joypad. enable joypad navigation in gameex then holding the button, up/down moves a page at a time and left/right move up and down the alphabet. Also, pressing a letter on the keyboard will jump to that letter in your rom list. You can also use ctrl and the cursor keys to do the same as the joystick button! Hope that helps and sorry for removing the navigation arrows from the theme. If you get used to this method, then I am confident you will prefer it!
  19. Sort of! It will run, but when switching to full screen (when set to automatically go full) it tries several times to abtain a lock on the screen and switches between full screen black and then a window (flashing between them). sometimes it flashes a couple of times and works, other times it never gets there!!! It is a real shame. all i can really hope for is that Yabuse is updated to correct it's many graphical glitches.. The other REALLY great thing about SSF is the option to tick "no bios" in program options 3. This stops the region lock out and all regions work a treat (only in a window for me though ). So tick that little box Great news that Vic-20 now works for you.. There are some real classics to be found...
  20. It does happen Tom. I allowed an auto update a while ago (around 9.2x) and when completed most of my emulators had vanished? When using Advanced Config, next-ing to the emulator configs; there were loads of spaces where the emus used to be! I tried removing gamex.ini and renaming gamex install backup ini, but this made things worse. I had luckily exported most of my emu configs and imported them back. Since then, i have turned off auto-update and have set 'file backup manager' to auto backup to an external drive once a week (a system that I strongly advise all GameEx users to do - not because of bugs in gameex or windows, but also because HD's do DIE!). Great news on 3 updates in as many minutes (only joshing ) Look forward to trying it when i get home, specially the 3d vista bit.. Again - Great work Tom....
  21. No wonder it takes soo long.. There must be another way - TOM? I added a complete archive of vintage computer magazines recently, and sadly it is not worth looking at them from GameEx - just take WAY TOO LONG. I quit gameex and use an external program. Shame really
  22. You've just gotta love this forum Cheers mate
  23. I would just like to mention NOD32. I have been using this for around 4 years and have never had a virus or spyware infestation. It also takes up hardly any resources and updates itself sometimes 3 times a day!! It is also commertial, but worth EVERY penny.
  24. If goes full screen and works fine. If I then exit using Alt-f4, the next time I try it pops to full screen for a few seconds and then reverts to a window frame on the screen and that it that. have to use task manager to kill it. then it will not run at all. If i delete the ini, it runs in a window without starting a game. If i then select Options - it freezes, task manager time again. Then, a few days later i will try again and it will work fine untill i exit and then the cycle begins again. It is a REAL shame as SSF is WAY better than Yabuse. And it renders Radiant Silvergun perfectly, unlike Yabuses messed up back grounds.. Bugger. Is there any chance you could post your config and SSF ini's?? pretty please.. I have recently learnt how to ass kiss from Tempest I don't believe it is a driver issue. I am using the latest nvidia non-beta drivers and all works a treat. Something goes wrong when I force an exit. Bugger, billhooks, and tons of other swearwords.
