Quite a high proportion of the Gamebase64 roms are pd or are permission granted. Check out the Gamebase website for info on the naming of the roms etc. That is as much as i can give you without breaking rules. The DB's KNOW the naming conventions of several sets of roms. With the new c64 set, it matches with goodbase, no intro, and tosec. If your roms are named correctly and the data is present in the db (it all will be one day) then GameEx will display the infomation that matches it. You also will no longer need worry about your roms naming. If they match any of the Dat sets, GameEx can now display them with correct names following a set convention. You will find this option in the emu config under "Use database names".

The GameEx Database Project
greatflash replied to headkaze's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
Thanks Tom! -
no, it is a 1024x768 photoshop file. I thought you may like to play and see how it comes out on a 640x480 cab set-up. I have no idea if the "system originally released" text will still be visible or if the theme itself will work at this resolution. Just open it in photoshop and save the .png as a background for GameEx, you know the rest... If any changes need to be made to the text size, position or font, please zip it up and return and I can use that as a basis for the 4:3 theme! Thanks for your help BK.

A new C64 database is in the works. It is to suport Gamebase64 v5 romsets mostly (also tosec and no-intro), but it will contain all 20,000 Gamebase64 roms. this is a db I am adding to every time I update the Vidsnaps I am also working on. I am afraid it is quite a way off. Intellivision is first in the list to complete and then I may get to work on a Nintendo or another sega one.

Bk, are you trying to rile people up? The DB's for GameEx are not hard.. Time consuming - yes, hard - no. The only thing that can take a while is finding dates and descriptions for obscure games. A pc database would not really have that problem and just take a bit of time and effort. Open and existing DB, (a small one is best), clear out all the data leaving the headings intact and save as say "PC Games". The headings you need to worry about are:- Name - This is used to hold the name to display if you set gameex to display "database names" goodname - This is the name of the 'rom' that gameex will pass to run the game i.e "Doom", check runitgame.bat for the name used in the command. year, publisher, and description - these are obvious. That is all you need in the DB (minimum) to test it works! PS. Thanks Tempest for the mention earlier, have you had one too many of them happy pills i hear you Americans get prescribed

That is very kind dear sir! (What have I and achey breaky heart got in common? - I know there is a tempest dig in there somewhere? )

Yes. The preview box is square to accomodate vert and horiz. On the full res theme the area is 700x700 pixels. the secondary preview box is also set to handle all box sizes nicely and also vert title captures.

I was tempted for a moment, but I am not sure I really like them odds...

BK: Did you nab the template? Just a few more images for a bit of feedback (again!). Had another play with the PSP and Daphne ones to add the list images.
-
I'm afraid everything is in the DB's. I have an Intellivision DB nearly ready for release, so that will sort out that problem for you at least
-
The data is stored in GameEx/DATA/EMULATORS/ They are individual files with the extension .mdb. These are access database files and can be edited to add games to them using Access or several other programs (google) available. It is a lot of work to do. The databases are all being worked on and updated, this does take a long time - but they will be available in future GameEx releases. So, either have a crack yourself or wait and hope the db you want is next in the list to be completed!

Thanks for your interest and glad you like the list images. Work is still going on, but there is a fair bit left to do (just over half way). Out of interest, what resolution do you run gameex in? The currently complete backgrounds are as follows (the ones with the 'x') 3DO Amstrad cpc x Apple II x Atari 800 x Atari 2600 x Atari 5200 x Atari 7800 x Atari Jaguar x Atari Lynx x Atari ST x Acorn BBC x Bally Astrocade x Commodore Amiga x Commodore c64 x Commodore CD-32 Commodore Plus 4 x Commodore Vic-20 x Colecovision x Daphne x Fairchild Channel F x Future Pinball x Magnavox Oddyssey Mattel Intellivision x MGT Sam Coup'e x MSX (Version 1) MSX (Version 2) NEC PC Engine x NEC Pc-FX Nintendo DS Nintendo Gameboy x Nintendo Gameboy Advance x Nintendo Gameboy Colour x Nintendo N64 x Nintendo NES Nintendo SNES x Nintendo Super Gameboy Nintendo Virtual Boy x Quickshot Supervision ScummVM x Sega 32x Sega Dreamcast x Sega GameGear Sega Master System x Gega Mega CD Sega Megadrive x Sega Naomi x Sega Saturn x Sinclair Spectrum x Sinclair ZX81 SNK Neo-Geo CD SNK Neo-Geo MVS SNK Neo-Geo Pocket SNK Neo-Geo Pocket Colour Sony Playstation Sony PSP x Texas Instruments TI-99/4a Vectrex x Thanks!

I have done a template at 640x480 that I was going to upload here. what I will do is make a 1024x768 one (same ratio so should be ok) later today and will upload that for you to check for me please. If i know it works then i will finish the theme at 1680x1050 (to support up to 1920x1080 - widescreen res's) then work on converting down to a 4:3 res set (1024x768, 800x600, 640x480, 128x96 ) Oh the joys. At least i have had no bad comments about the graphics in the rom list. It will be a bit more worth but may be worth it? What the hell do I use for the Fairchild Channel F? EDIT: Done one to 800x600 for 2 reasons, 1 - it sits between the 2 other 4:3 resolutions for easy scaling up or down, 2 - the psd is less than 2 megs so i can upload it here for you.. EDIT:Template removed for now - THANKS BK!
-
So, it should be fairly easy to do them at 640x480. What are your experiences with using a 1024x768 them in 640x480? Only asking as I wondered if it would be better to resize to 1024x768 and let GameEx take care of the 640x480 version with its own rescale? Your thoughts please oh kindly sir!
-
Upon further thought BK, re-modeled the template to construct a 640x480 one to see how it looked done correctly (did not modify the icons though). Anyone else - please look above at the collection of 5 images, these have pictures behind the game lists - thoughts? BK, template is available for 640x480 if you wanna play?
-
Well. I have kept the photoshop files for ALL the backgrounds and graphics. I was going to resize the main background (the frame) and move all the incidental graphics to suit (rather than resize them) Here are two images, one is a scaled version and the other is a quick photoshop re-model. I think the borders may need to be re-jigged to compensate? PS. what do ya think of the images in the list? PS. Tried to zip a psd file for the gameboy one, can out at 4.37 meg so can't upload it for you to have a look at, sorry PS. Sorry the Octopus is flying...
-
It would be possible in theory, but too involved to manage as a DB. As well as that the DB would be practically never ending... I don't know how you would get it to work as a 'PC game' under GameEx. The best way would be for someone just to make a custom background containing the info (if that is possible - have not used the PC game option)
-
Looks like I was wrong AGAIN
-
No, I am afraid there is not. I really do not know how you could implement one? Current DB's take a known rom name and match it to a rom name that you select in gameex, then displays the info. A PC game is not stored as a rom or iso and is usually an executable in a directory, or worse if executed through dosbox or other. Sorry that i cannot be of any help.

At the moment there are 77 recreated tables for FP, though sadly missing lots of great tables that are in VP. also. Visual Pinball is a pintable simulator, where as VPmame is an emulator for the game itself. Visual Pinball takes care of the table and phsyics (that canno t be emulated) and VPmame takes care of the rest, used more often than not to create the aminated score displays for later pintables.
-
Ps. Also done the same to the PSP one )

<snigger> Mind you - it was done a while ago, but some nice graphics used in it. Gonna post some pics of the latest work on the theme that I could REALLY do with some feedback on.
