Goodbase64 is not too bad "<name of game> (number)". I have been using this mostly while doing vidsnaps for the c64 to cover every game. I then use a (under-construction) DB to rename the roms to display the full corrected names when in GameEx - though just removing the bracketted text is fine for rom display. The only problem with goodbase64 is that the dat is only v3 (not the current v5 set) so I am adding the missing ones to the c64 DB as I go along. So... Gamebase64 is the best option of the bunch for commodore 64 imho.

Ok... Here is the Intellivision DB that I promised a while ago (IMBerzerk). This has all tosec, nointro, and goodname entries intact. Spent quite a while researching the miss-named (here we go again) roms in the Goodname and Tosec dats. These revolved around the Soccer games. None of them could agree on the correct names. There are now made to list correctly when using database names. The correct names are from the rom code and the coders own words (and one release sheet from Intellivision). Another good reason to use the db's. One thing struck me (and this time it wasn't the wife), things will never match up correctly when using goodmerged sets. I know this is obvious - but I had never given it a thought before. That is the problem of having several versions within one archive. What would be handy (Tom - looking at you here) is if when you have selected a goodmerged rom and the list of it contents were presented - if there was some way to display the info correctly based on which of the roms was highlighted. Just a thought? (also - why are the brackets not removed? and why does it not show the databae name when asked to in the emu's config?) Anyway HK. Please give this a check and I will move on to the next. PS. The columns in the editor no longer sort correctly when clicked on Cheers All. PPSSPSSSPPPPSSS. If anyone has any problems with roms not matching with the NEW db's (these are listed on the first page of this topic), please post here and let me know. I need the filename and system (and naming convention if know). Please don't post if you have gone BERZERK and named your roms manually _Console__Mattel_Intellivision_v1.029__Flash_.zip -
I do agree for the most part, though no-intro does miss out by not having dats for a number of systems (Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Intellivision, PC-FX, Neogeo, Amstrad CPC, Apple II, Atari 400/800, Atari ST, Sinclair Spectrum, amongst others) Goodtool may have all the hacks and versions, but it does cover a lot more systems. Tosec is good only for cd based systems imho.
-
in my experience, Goodtool offers perhaps the best overall sets. Then No-into, and lastly Tosec. Lot's of people use Tosec and it is great for most systems (including iso's), but is totally missing from some systems and some dats contain less than 10 games. I personally use either Goodtool or No-Intro. Between the two you should be able to cover everything. One point, neither of three contain all games for a single system. Some will have less than others.

You had your chance but blew it! Poor ol' Channel F, all discarded like that
-
Yes - leave Mame rom names well alone Listen to Tempest (he's a "Super Member") , Though you were recently refering to an intellivision set, the same rule applies really.
-
I think you are making yourself a lot of work when a simple runthrough clrmamepro will do all the work for you and sort the roms nicelly when the GameEx DB is complete... In GameEx with the Db, you can list the games by publisher without the need to modify all the filenames. What happens when you want to find a game that you cannot remember the publisher of? Good luck!

So am I? Mind you, I would need an ultra-ultra wide monitor to see past 'publisher' in the columns I added a few new Saturn ones last night and all looked ok, but as I say - I cant see that far across unless I use the scrollbar, and I only really use that when a db is completed to check all is present... So... Um... I would have noticed eventually :) (you only spotted it cause you were looking at a db with little dat names :) ) Cheers HK. -
99% of stuff will work fine under Vista. I have 48 emu's set up and all works a treat. The only 2 emu's that cause SLIGHT problems are SSF (Sometimes takes a while to sort out fullscreen) and NullDC (Has problems exiting from fullscreen). One thing I will say is regarding the 7za.exe file in the gameex directory. This is set to administrator rights upon install of gameex and can cause problems if you use gameex's zip/goodmerge functions due to it needing to ask permission to run. This halts the execution of the rom. Either right-click and turn admin off or install tweakUAC and set silent mode. That is all I can think of??? anyone else?

That is true. With GameEx's database engine, even with custom emulators, if a rom matches then you can get it to display the database name (it is in each custom emulators options). Using this, when a rom is matched with the db, GameEx will display it's own internal name. This will correct wrong named tosec, no-intro, and goodname's. This is really handy for some japanese releases (see Saturn db) that have many incorrect names and also this corrects spelling mistaakees and the suchlike. The only thing you need to do is make sure your romset matches one of the 3 DAT's. GameEx will take care of the rest. The Intellivision one will be finished soon. The only thing that I may omit from some of the larger DB's is the PD stuff and Hacks. This is so as to get as many done as possible. I will go back and add that data at a later stage. Prototypes and regional/publisher variations will all be present.

You should already have a complete Colecovision database. This is downloaded as long as the option if selected (it is by default) when installing GameEx updates. There is also a complete Atari 5200 and 7800 db that may be online now - If not it will be with the next GameEx release. For these or anyother db to work, you need to be using one of the three dat naming systems. Follow HK's advice here and try it on you Colecovisions roms (backup of).. WTH would anyone want or need to modify the names of roms that you are using for mame?

Check that the name within the zip file is the same. This is the name that should be in the layout file.

Sadly they are all a bit too small. May be able to pull a bit of the graphics from one and create a suitable image? The one I created so far I am not really very sure about.?

Looks much better now and the buttons are a boon. Nice to see you added the delete key option on a rom file. Have had a play and all appears to work fine. I can set the status of individual roms in the list, but what I really need is a status on the Database tab, so that I can see which ones I am working on. So I could set say "Colecovision" to red to show that it is complete. not so much on the roms themselves within, though this will be a constantly used feature tagging the roms individually. I just need a way to see what romset is complete or in a state of completeness. Is there any chance of a info field to each system on the database tab, so that I can enter info to remind me what the last rom I checked fully was, and notes on what ones to check. etc. In the same way that description works on individual roms. The whole package is looking and working really sweet now. You certainly know your onions! I wish I had time to get a bit further with programming. I just don't get time between the DB's, the theme, and vidsnaps.. There will come a day at some stage... Leaving Spectrum, C64, and zx81 till LAST in the db's. By then you will probably have the editor doing all the work by itself PS. Can you add Atari 5200 to page one of this topic for me. PPS. Is there ANYONE else doing any of these db's? Or has everyone left the ship now. If they have all gone, then I would like to thank you personally for the software that you have writen just for me. Can you please call it "Flash's GXDBM" Oh well... Fingers to the grind-keyboard AGAIN! -
Thanks for the interest. It is getting there - been working on it tonight doing menu backgrounds for several systems. Struggling to find anything worthwhile for the Amstrad CPC range though. Suggestions welcome...

Thanks Tom, Works a treat now!

Great update Tom. There is a strange quirk with daphnebak_Foreground.png? Regardless of what graphic I use, GameEx fails with a 21 consecutive..... etc. direct x error. The same foreground renamed as startbak_foreground.png works a treat for the start page. Also, remaning any of my existing working foreground files for daphne also causes the same problem. All other screens do not have this problem including mame. Everything else works fine except Daphne? Strange... Yes, before you say it - it is always me

Sounds like Frank, he was doing the rounds yesterday. . .

Ok, here is the full Atari 5200 db (in XML format for HK). I have also added 2 known complete 5200 games that have not been released but are on cartridge. Who knows, these may be released and this way the db will display the info if this happens. Not that anyone will be able to play them as they used a bicycle as a controller. The games are Tunbleweeds and Jungle River Cruise. HK: Any thoughts on the ideas i pm'd? Have started the 2600 one also.... Think I will finish the Intellivision one first though... PS. Please mark me off on page 1 Tom: There is still someting strange in the general matching. For the atari 5200, I had to add ALL the bracketted data to the goodname/tosec/no-intro to get a match. For example "Atari Diagnostics V2.3 (1983) (Atari)" matches, but "Atari Diagnostics V2.3" does not. Yet "Beamrider" matches fine, though the filename is "Beamrider (1984) (Activision)". It must be something to do with the V part, something you do regarding the matching where version numbers are present? Anyway - got round it this time by putting multiple entries in for the same title and adding the "(1983) (Atari)" and "(1983) (Atari) [b1]" and "(1983) (Atari) [o1]" and so on.... It works, but hopefully there is a way round this other than increasing the size of a tidy db? Thanks! _Console__Atari_5200_v1.02__Flash_.zip -
BK - have you done an "update list"???
