The GameEx Database Project
greatflash replied to headkaze's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
It would be quite quick and fairly easy to do. The number of working games is a definate plus. I may be tempted to knock one up tomorrow..... See what time I have. -
The odyssey 200 would be great (that would make 4 magnavox units ). I have an xe console (or did you mean the 130 or 65xe?) The pictures still need to be cut out (yawn), but upped to show that the smaller stuff was done in a small portable studio worked by imps . The white helps to reflect a bit of light to all sides. I tried using the blue as a base - but this made it a nighmare to cut out...

We do already have a common name in the db's that you call the database name. This (i am trying to) is generic across all systems, so that a game on one system will match with the same game on another. Using this, it should be really easy to cross reference them to create an "also on..." list. Allowing people to add there own descriptions (not reviews) is a great idea. These must be moderated first before acceptance. And these could then filter into the offline lists. Once you know how this is all going, then perhaps and "add game" option would then be viable? with extensive matching checks etc. It is an exciting project and I remember you & HK mentioning this when the new databases were mooted all that time ago, so I am sure HK will be thrusting himself behind this I will warn him that I can already think of a handful of things to be modified in the Database Manager software when you get closer to activation.. (poor HK) -
Last one for now PS. I have a request for anyone who has a 32X. Please can you upload a hi-res picture. Really could do with one Also, anyother pictures (not downloaded ones) that anyone has would be GREAT!

And a sweet little Amiga 1000. What a day that was when the Amiga was released. I loved the design of the 1000, nicer than the 4000 and the 500's. Also, here is my vote for the WORST named console/computer :- The Amstrad MEGA PC. It was neither strictly a pc (386sx when 486's were the rage) nor MEGA (for the same reasons). This had a little sliding flap on the front. Slide it one way and it is a PC (ahem!) and slide it the other and it is a megadrive. WOW!!! Needless to say that sales were not inspiring and the hardware (luckily) faded without a trace (well - apart from this picture).. (Up yours 'Sir' Alan Sugar ) Sorry about the Grubbyness of the Amstrad photo, did my best to tidy it up.

Just a few more Images. What I may do is stick these all on a web site for all? I have a web page that I have not used as yet... Could use it to do just a gallery webpage to put them all in one place? Hmmmm. Anyway, Here is an Apple IIe, a Magnavox Odyssey 400 & 500, and an Intellivision. Had to reduce the Intellivision and Apple a bit to stay within the 2meg limit on file sizes Enjoy!

I used to code cracktro's and intros/demos for S-Xpress crew back in the day. Along with several games these are still on disks - god knows if they will be usable still. I must get a lead sorted out to transfer them to the pc.. I did a demo called "Opus" that had full screen multiplexed sprites that wobbled in a sine wave left/right that you could control with the joystick to make lots of nice patterns. Then after that was released, people started using that to scroll text up the screen as well within the sprites. Also did a DYCP that also did sine waves on the bitmap that was bouncing up and down. It was amazing what you could pull out of a machine running less than a mhz!

If you get a chance, please send some pictures (hi-res). The net is sadly lacking quality pictures. Thanks!!!

Yes, got nearly all the handhelds, Both Atari Lynxs, Neogeo, Game & Watch, PC engine GT, Gamegear, etc. Will get them done. Took a pic of the gamegear with tv tuner. IMBerkerk: A pick of the sears would be great. Done a nice picture of the intellivoice (and box) though, Thanks - that would be great if you could send pics. Try not to get too much shadow or flash glare and I will do the rest. Will try and do a few more today. Got a nice image of a zx80 (now that's RETRO).

I am always happy to help Tom.. You just let me know. Belinda - Lucky for you that you got the C64. What a great machine that was - better than the Welsh dragon. The Dragon was FAR inferior and based on old Tandy technology. There were still some great games for it. Many more than the Lynx
-
Thanks Tom. I will have to think what to do with them when they get too many. There are LOADS more to do... I can't just keep filling the forum up Don't know where else to put them though. That is if people do want them?
-
That would be great if you could take a picture and up it. Don't worry about editing it, just make sure it is a hi-res as possible. And any other things you have got? All will be great. I just got a bit sick searching for good quality pictures of consoles and computers. Here are 3 more. The Laser 200 is a bit discoloured though sadly. Pleased with the Sharp MZ-700 and the NEC PC-FX. If you can find better pictures online - I would love to see them! I have had enough of photoshop for one night. Lots more to do Will try to get a good picture of a Vectrex (and box). If anyone else has some pictures of consoles/computer (not just vintage), Please share them - I am more than happy to do the editing if the source is fairly crisp! TOM (sweety), can I have a little bit more upload space please... Only got 4 megs free (pretty please)

I know what you mean! I DO get through many keyboards myself. At least with the humble PC you can replace them. A picture for Tempest (I know you have a soft spot for the channel F) <snigger> Channel F and Magnavox Odyssey. I hope some of these pictures are of use to someone. They (some) may come in real handy for theme creation.

No, I never got round to coding the mtx. I did code track and field on a HP-85 though and also made a joystick for it. Do you remember the Camputers Lynx? Very few made and it died without a trace taking the company with it - shame realy. Great machine and it had a c64 beating 96k. Oh talking of C64's - heres another Picture. (Sadly SX64 is too blurry to trim) (gonna run out of upload space soon )
-
Little bit of a MESS.. Really must sort it out. There are some REAL treasures there... Picture of MTX 512 (Tom ) and games... Oh and a damn Spectrum.
-
Ive got one - will post you a picture shortly, sure it will bring back a few memories for ya!
-
Here is some HQ Virtual Boy pics. I have trimmed them as best I can. Sadly the background they were taken against is blue and this can be seen slighly affecting the colour of the red at the top.

Made a trip to the loft today and while there decided to take the camera and try to get some pictures of some of the machines. These couple of pictures show the state of the loft. I dare not show you the OTHER end.... I will work through the other images I have taken and upload some new console/computer artwork as I go along.

I have just been going through some Jap Saturn games. Everyone seems to be going a bit nulldc mad.. But before then here were a LOT of great games relesed. I made this post Because I Just found a great shoot'em up while doing some vidsnaps for Emumovies. Not a lot of people really bother about the Sega Saturn and the Jap only releases - So I thought I would mention one. Now this game seemed to start really bland, then I decided to keep playing it and trust me this develops into an incredible shmup! If you have it or access to it - play "Terra Driver" - you wait till you get to the 3rd level. On the same subject, please try 'Super Tempo' (great platform game) and 'Zero Divide - The Final Conflict' (good beat em up). Just thought it was worth making a post. These are not mainstream stuff and many may not even know of them... ps. Set up that Saturn emu NOW. ? (SSF)

If I have understood your problems descripton:- As mame progresses through new versions, the roms that work with it are also modified, remamed. some may have colour roms added or better dumps, or even whole new chip dumps, as well as new games. You need to update your roms to the version of mame you are running. Clrmame pro can SOMETIMES fix some of the roms by renaming them to the correct names expected and also fix some of the rom files. This is worth a go. So, either stick with the earlier version of mame or update and download the new roms. I cannot help you with where to get roms though. just one thing, have you done an "update list" in gameex for mame?
