  1. Well done me ol' china. Will have a look today at work and let you know how i get on... cheers mr turbo-coder.
  2. all it need really is a right-click option like "Modify fields". So you can select a group of roms, right click, select, and then get a box like the input one. Only this time, fill all boxes (ones ticked in opions) with "<do not modify>". then i could either select one and start typing, or use the pulldown as before to enter data. Only fields that have been modified will be changed.. Does that make sense? Would also be able to utilise some existing code
  3. Multiple edit is all that is needed. (a search would be nice just to check if you already have a game in the list under a different name format - so you can check before adding another) Can you make note for me of what has been updated since the tutorial (if you can remember), i will update it again soon. Just expanding the db for scumm to include all working games and also fanmade. Will modify the loader for you and upload to the ftp when done if that is ok with you? Did you grab the xml's? All the best (as always) Don't forget to add Neo Geo to my little list at the start of the topic - i'm keeping scores (i think i am winning?)
  4. you used to be able to do them all as a whole. You can change the parent rom and this will alter all clones (unless you change a clone) In earlier Mame builds, im sure there was a way to modify all vector controls as a whole using a vector.ini file in the ini dir. I don't think that is possible now, not sure if it will work by setting up the controls for asteroids and then renaming asteroid.cfg to vector.cfg. I really cant be more help than that.
  5. Right, downloaded your new version of the editor with all the files, and it works now. Something must have gone amiss when just updating the exe... What - i have no idea. I have thought of a really nice addition. When I finish a DB i like to sort each column to check they are all correct. When sorting by the Publisher, sometimes i find that LOTS of them are slightly different (even if they look identical sometimes - EXACTLY IDENTICAL), examples of miss-named ones are "SNK of America", "SNK of America Corp.", "SNK of America Corporation". Presently you have to go to each one and use the pull down for publisher to change them (on the latest db there were over 60). Would it be possible to group select them and change elements as a whole? Just a nice time-saving idea. Anyway, here is the Neo-Geo MVS/AES list, I hope it contains everything. Manually added 60 or so roms including Jap names, so hopefully it should be 100% complete. Have fun. PS. Will also up ALL my current XML's so you can see if we are all current. This will also include part made ones (c64, intell) as this is also a good way of keeping a back-up. They will be at the usual place. Some xmls are removed (mophun, psp, etc.. the pointless ones - at the moment anyway) phew again... Think I will have a little break from the db's for a few days now (unless you come up with another great time saver ) _Console__SNK_Neo_Geo_v1.022.zip
  6. now i'm confused. What tempest meant was that asteroid.cfg or default.cfg may be write protected so that when you change them the changes are not saved. find each one and right click/properties and make sure that write protect is not ticked.
  7. Never mind! I will let you know how i get on when i get home with the editor, and will update the COMPLETE neg-geo mvs/eas DB for ya
  8. I will download the full install, rather than the exe only when i get back from work... Perhaps it lies there somewhere?? I don't know.. Got backache now - god, i miss my desk PS. English humour (TOM )
  9. I have no idea why it does not do it for you - but i promise you and all the pixies and imps that have stood in my way (and the little gremlin who put humous in my shoes) I AM NOT MAD!!!. There, now you know, so put that in your pipe and smoke it!! It gets other data for description and that is all.... I wonder if it is something to do with the memory thingy-ma-jig-stick? All i originally wanted to get (or at least, all i was doing) was getting the description. Now that is all i get, why it clears name, publisher, and year i have no idea.. So, i thought a good idea was to delete the ini file - just is in case.. I selected it and hit delete, missed the key and accidently deleted my desk... Now i am sitting on the floor writing this. Anyway, had another go and deleted the ini file and re-started the editor. Went into the neo geo and created a new game called "Boulderdash" (i know there was not one - but i know the NES version has full info), selected it and did allgane, select all, double clicked on the nes version and.... (fanfare) all that happened is that the description is added and the name is removed... Nothing changed So, I checked the error log and think i have found a problem... Here it is fully.. ------------------- 02/09/2008 16:07:16: GameEx Database Manager v1.39 02/09/2008 16:07:16: Reading Config 02/09/2008 16:08:12: Writing Config ------------------- The problem i have noticed is that my watch is 2 minutes fast, or my laptop is 2 minutes slow... Not sure if this matters though Anyway - the problem is still there
  10. Leave name, publisher and date TICKED. Geeesh
  11. It did it with Pulstar, cleared the Name and publisher and date. (neo geo again)... (used select ALL)
  12. It has happened 3 times now. Most of the time it works fine? just every now and then the fields are cleared? Nothing logged i am sorry to say.. I promise i am not dreaming it. Only happens with Allgame. The game is in the results, select all, double click and all is cleared.. (Karnov's Revenge - neo geo mvs was one i think). not a big problem though.
  13. Did you find a file called Vector.cfg? , if so - delete it!
  14. ooooh no, It does not fill anything other than decription, also if "name" is ticked, it wipes that? sorry...
  15. Well done mate, Apears to be working a treat now.. Thanks..
  16. The Allgame data thing a my ding does not work now. If i select Description on a game that i have checked has one on allgame, the description is not updated in the editor (or any other data ) x2
  17. I thought it was more about the system that the game was running on. With the Pinballs (and Scumm) it is really about what you are playing, not the platform or software. Even FP runs tables from bagatelle up to present, and in a way, more so with FP. You can (with the DB) go through the years these tables were released and the Biography helps to put this all into prospective. From the early parlor styled games, to the gambling ban (and you can now look at the games that were used for gambling), to the launch of multiball and solid state. It is just that the idea of running all these games should be about the history (the actuall games) not the present (the emulator/simulation they run on)... Well... I do have to try and make my point, Seeing it is just you and me - i dont want to be a silent partner... RE:Select none... Yes this is great, but when you are going throug 50 of them, the ability to just double click for the result would speed things up a lot. At the moment, i have to click search, locate the game in the results, select none, then click "Description" then go back to the result list to locate the game and double click. If it could remember (and window size) I would only need to double click on the game. Phew!!! PS. Can you add a STRIKE to neo-geo CD on the start page please. It is complete and also added a few games that have been added to CD format.
  18. Here is a full Neo Geo DB and a small update to the Saturn one. The system XML has limited biography on the ScummVM engine, refering only to the emulator??? This has not been the case with the other emulators? These have all refered to the machines themselves. Im sure it would have been better to have used the biography for the actual Scumm engine and the various versions, and not ScummVM. The same goes for Future pinball. A biography of the evolution of pinball tables surely would have been more relevent and a damn site more interesting? The same also goes for VP. (these were what I had posted earlier) I am the demon king of the DB's and with the power vested in me and the power of Greyskull, I will smite you down..... _Console__Sega_Saturn_v1.193.zip _Console__SNK_Neo_Geo_CD_v1.004.zip
  19. I meant that it appears that I am the only one making them, you silly bugger you! Your editor is a fantastic help - you know that (though i could try to swell your head a bit if you wish ) The mdb to xml could come in really handy...

    New Theme!

I know, should have said. Though these are a bit out of date now and are more of a demonsration than a tutorial. Well worth a look. But the best method is to play.

    New Theme!

It would be one hell of a video.. There is a lot involved in the construction. You can make a theme in 5 mins using another as a template, or you can go the whole hog and create one from scratch using all new graphics and spend several weeks. The best way is to play. Create (or update) a new theme in the editor and set it to the resolution you wish. Then work on the main menu background first and play till you get it how you want to. Make sure not to place items so they will be off screen, i.e. text too close to edge of screen. When you have the opening menu correct, work through other screens (emu's, daphne, etc) The easiest way is to download a theme you like and play with it. See how it was built and what graphics were used (in the themes/media folder). You can do no damage except to the theme you are editing. If you have a specific question (other than - how do i make a theme), feel free to post it and i am sure lots of people will jump to offer help. Sorry if i cannot be more helpful.
  22. I was just reading the early posts (june 15th) while working on a damn DB (Intellivision) and just wondered "what happened"...? I was not even in the original list and yet I appear to be the only one active in this DB business Still.... You have to laugh really, don't ya?
