  1. Yeah I could have gone with building an old PC and using FreeNAS or Linux but I just thought it was a cool device and portable (no regrets). I didn't have a spare PC although I probably could have bought one for the same price as the NAS. It does have 1 gigabit capability so I've been debating whether or not I should upgrade my network to gigabit. But that would be a number of NIC's, routers, switches etc. etc. In the end it would end up being quite expensive to upgrade
  2. I got a DLink DNS-323 NAS box with 2 x 500 GB HDD's (great little device with built in Linux OS that you can even install a torrent client on). I set it up with Raid 0 (Striping) for speed but I only have a 100 MBit network so I was thinking (after it was too late) that I probably should have gone for JBOD (Just a Bunch of Disks) or standard (2 single drives). Since I'm using Raid 0 if I loose one drive I loose all data. I didn't go for Raid 1 (mirroring) because I wanted 1 Gig so the reason I went for Raid 0 is size and speed but when your limited by your network speed I probably made a mistake in that decision. Going JBOD or standard would have meant that if one drive failed I would still be able to recover the other drive. Since I'm limited by 100 MBit I doubt there would be a noticable speed difference than Raid 0. Of course really important data is always backed up but I'd spew if my NAS drive failed and I lost all that data.
  3. We have this thing going every year where one person in our family (big family) buy one gift for another that is pulled out of a hat. I had my uncle this year so I bought him two authentic Phantom rings off ebay and a Phantom diary (he's a big Phantom comic fan obviously). I got some wierd device for drinking spirits. But I don't drink spirits hehe I wish they had of got me a computer related gift or something. I did get two bar stools for my arcade machine though which is cool I laughed when I saw next to Brian's avatar "All I want for christmas is more HD space." lol ahem to that!
  4. Safe: Have a look in your mame.ini and check for an option called switchres, maybe if you try setting that to 0 that will stop Mame from changing resolution.
  5. Yes download PortMon and you can view the communication with your Com port to the BetaBrite. Not sure why you having these problems with the plugin, I run it all the time and havn't encountered that problem yet. I'll see if I can replicate the problem. You can always look in GameEx\PLUGINS\PluginLCD\PluginLCD.log and see if there are any error messages.
  6. You might wanna download the update from the website and install that way rather than auto update. Lesson learned : Don't fiddle with cab setup just before family arrive to show it off
  7. pacman is a clone of puckman so if your not showing clones pacman won't show.
  8. There was a release of the plugin that was broken, so I'd make sure I had the latest version of the plugin from here. Copy the files into the C:\Program Files\GameEx\PLUGINS folder.
  9. Please post your GameEx.log (Start > Programs > GameEx > Log File)
  10. Open "Advanced Configuration" or "GameEx Setup Wizard" and go to "Advanced Mame Settings" and remove everything from "MAME Options". Now it will only use your options from mame.ini.
  11. There is an option in Project 64's video settings that you need to set to "Run in fullscreen"

    Rankings.ini

GameEx already displays the correct icons for these new categories. Check out the thread with the icon's in them. Adultery has the icons there to match the categories. Just place them in your Themes\Logos folder and they will show up in GameEx. I use Nologic's icons now so I just renamed them to match and they show up fine. I will be releasing a pack with all these new graphics by Nologic and I'll be sending a copy to Tom for hosting. Only got a few more icons for Nologic to finish and we'll have the complete set
  13. Can you give me some games that appear with the bezel upside down? I'll see if I can figure out whats going on.
  14. Just thought I'd share with you these really simple but handy Registry entry files. I've only tested them on XP so I would be careful running these on any other Windows version. I have these on my desktop so I can switch from having GameEx launch on startup to the standard explorer shell. So if I'm doing heavy configurating it's annoying having GameEx launch on startup when you reboot. With these you can double click to set which one will start. Run Explorer on Startup.reg - Restores the explorer shell Run GameEx on Startup.reg - Sets GameEx to run on startup Run_GameEx_on_Startup.zip

    Rankings.ini

Came across this ini file that can be used in GameEx. It categorises games into top 100 games. http://nonmame.retrogames.com/rankings.html Nologic: This probably means we need an icon for this too now *duck*
  16. Why not for vertical games? The output generated by GenerateBezelV1() matches what you have in GameEx\MEDIA\BEZEL. I tested 1942 in Mame 0106 and it looked okay. Perhaps you need to delete the contents of your cfg folder for your test machine? Or do you have any idea why it's not working for some vertical games? I thought it was a bit strange how the bezel was rotated 90 degree's but again I just copied what you had in GameEx's BEZEL folder which I assumed must be correct.
  17. Also the Attract Bezel feature is currently not supported by Bezel V1 format (Mame 0.106 and earlier).
  18. What version of Mame are you using? I think older versions of Mame used -artwork_directory as the command line option for changing the artwork directory while newer ones use -artpath. Try running MAME -showusage >cmd.txt And tell us what it says for the artwork folder.
  19. I took the bucking magnets off my speakers yesterday as the discolouration is clearly creeping back and it was even starting to appear at the bottom of the monitor. Now I guess I will need to either buy an LCD monitor or get some different speakers
  20. I think this release also fixes a bug in the Theme Editor Merry Xmas yall, hope you all have fun playing your cabs over the holidays
  21. Version 1.36 - Updated data files for Mame 0122 sbaby: I added an option for you so you don't have to set data files to read only. Follow these instructions 1. Download & Install CPWizard 1.36 2. Run CPWizard then Exit 3. Open CPWizard.ini 4. You should see a new section called [DataFiles] where you can set your own paths BTW You are now in my "Thanks" area on the website for your help beta testing
  22. The "GameEx wont change resolution" under the "Don't switch resolution" setting just means GameEx will run in the same resolution as your desktop.
  23. Yes I think we'd all like to forget that thread
  24. Okay we fixed sbaby's issues with CPWizard. So get Version 1.35 if you haven't already - The not loading correct layout after loading a lightgun game was caused by an old ini file from a previous release. Deleting CPWizard.ini and reconfiguring CPWizard should fix that. - I didn't realise this but Dotfuscator turns enums into letters of the alphabet. So that was screwing up the text alignment when saving the layout file. This is also fixed in 1.35, so open your layout and save it again and you can now correctly use text align left, right or center and also text styles outline or dropshadow. - There may be issues with CPWizard when GameEx is using ShowDesktop=false. So if your having issues there you might like to set it to true.
  25. I knew it was worth asking Nologic to write a wrapper for VP
