  1. That was the whole point of my original TinyXP post but I guess it got confused into something else. All I wanted to do was to find out how to get GameEx running without Microsoft Jet 4.0 installed. The reason was because a few people have installed TinyXP and can't get GameEx to run on it. They then choose a different FE because of this
  2. 2.68 Released - Added Daphne support (this update is dedicated to alexdog69 and his great cab he built for his brother hehe)
  3. 2.67 Released - Fixed compatibility output for LEDBlinky Animation Editor (DevicePort-Input.ini)
  4. Yeah that was nice and I enjoyed seeing my plugin in action too. It made me smile to hear the cab say "Launching game..." (first time I've actually seen the plugin running on a cab other than my own) It was a bit hard to see the buttons light up in the video though as it was quite bright. Still sweet stuff, and lucky brother
  5. Nice job on the sweet cab!
  6. NoLogic: Do you really think DJ Infinity is fucking with you or yanking your chain? I thought he was just asking a question! DJ Infinity: If there was an easier way to do it I'm sure NoLogic would have figured it out by now. So if there is a wrapper then it's usually because it's necessary.
  7. The input system introduced in Mame 118 was changed to use the Raw Input System which allows for multiple mouse & keyboards. This broke alot of cfg files which need to be deleted and re-created.
  8. Is your "Mame Source Folder" pointing to the folder with the Mame source you extracted?
  9. The hiscore patch already removes those messages as well as a few other cab related tweaks.
  10. Yeah thanks that would help. It's the same error I get BTW.
  11. Ian can you answer this question from Arzoo Can you also post a screenshot of the error message. I'll need to boot up my cab to get this info as it doesn't seem to be crashing on this PC.
  12. Striping just means "removing" so AFAIK he means keep everything to the left of the "|" pipe symbol and remove the clones on the right.

Brian: Check out these files here. What happens when you manually copy the Jet 4.0 files from your full XP install over to the TinyXP install can you get GameEx to run that way? If you can then we can create an installer for those files.
  14. Basically it works like this 1. Install Mame Compiler 2. Download the Mame source from mamedev.org (ie. mame0123s.zip) 3. Download the Mame binary from mamedev.org (ie. mame0123b.exe) 4. Download the hiscore diff patch for the version of Mame here. 5. Rename hi_123.txt to hi_123.diff and copy the file into C:\MinGW\patches 6. Extract the mame0123s.zip to C:\MinGW\source\Mame0123 7. Run the mame0123b.exe and extract it to where you want to run Mame (Eg. C:\Emulators\Mame) 8. Run Mame Compiler (Start->Program Files->Mame Compiler->MameCompiler) 9. Click the [...] button to browse for the "Diff Patch File" and point it to hi_123.diff 10. Click the "Apply Patch" button 11. Press the "GO!" button to compile Mame 12. One it's finished take the mame.exe file from the "C:\MinGW\source\Mame0123" folder and copy it to where you want to run Mame (Eg. C:\Emulators\Mame) and overwrite the one you extracted from mame0123b.exe NOTE: You only need to download the binary if you don't have Mame already setup.

    TinyXP

The point of this thread was to install a lite version of XP without the Microsoft Jet, and then find out what is necessary (ie. What files are needed) to get it running again. If we figure out what files are needed we can create an install package to restore Microsoft Jet so GameEx can run. There have been a few posts with the error "The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine.". So I wanted to find out a way to fix that. I don't think TinyXP is illegal as long as you own a license of XP Pro on the machine you intend to install it, which I do. So I will be installing it under a virtual environment just for testing. It's still worth doing a tutorial on installing XP using NLite but it can be a bit tricky to know what to remove and what to keep. The idea of using TinyXP was to take a well known stripped down version and use that for the testing. Afterall TinyXP is more popular among cab users than NLite because it's easier to install.
  16. Check out the benchmarking over on BYOAC. It might give a better indication of what it should be running at.

It's gonna take me a while to finish my download too, so I'm noowhere near there yet either And everyone is equal here as far as thread jacking is concerned and I quite like a bit of humour and banter in posts to lighten things up a bit
  18. There is a link to it on the hiscore patch pinned topic over at BYOAC http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=64298.0
  19. Yeah I keep getting those violation access errors too. I've been meaning to contact Arzoo about it. I guess it's a good time to get that sorted along with my plugin. I will look into it soon Also I just wanted to say a big thanks again mate, it's really nice of you to donate and the trackball and LED kit I have installed the new LCD into my cab using straps and I must say the quality is amazing. It really looks awesome. The only thing I dont like about it is the viewing angle. Because I quite often like to run my cab in attract mode while I'm programming to check out games running. And now it's hard to see whats running without being directly in front of it. But still the quality makes it worth it I think
  20. Tom spoke about adding multiple Mame version support not that long ago, but it's hard to say how much on the cards it is. DJ Infinity: I thought you got 64-bit compiling working?

    TinyXP

NLite was used to create TinyXP but it's just to have a benchmark on what is needed to get GameEx running on a stripped down version of XP. NLite allows more customisation and all that, but since TinyXP does have some popularity for cab builders I think it's a good starting point. But I'm happy to include NLite testing in this experiment, really any stripped down version of XP should be okay. The frist question I want answered is "does installing Microsoft Jet 4.0 on TinyXP allow GameEx to run? And if not what is necessary to get it running?"

    TinyXP

It takes up around 680Mb of disk space. Have a search for "Windows TinyXP Platinum Edition 2". I just realised that Microsoft Virtual PC 2008 is FREE! So I'm going to download TinyXP myself and get it running in a virtual environment on this PC. So lets see who can be the first to get GameEx running on TinyXP

  24. Can you post your deviceport-input file? What I may need to do is contact Arzoo and see what he says.
  25. Woohoo! That's good to hear mate! I look forward to seeing the video when your cab is finished
