This latest attempt will be my best at this game short of defeating Death=Adder, which I can get to no problem, then after that, it all falls apart. ExedExes - 135.5

You people and your classic shells. I got Win 8.1 computer last year and I just throw up all I want into folders on the desktop and pin other stuff like MAME on the taskbar. Not to say that those menu programs do bring back the Win 7 and earlier appearance, but I like right clicking on the Win 8.1 Start button because it has more options like Control Panel, Device Manager, Power Options, Task Scheduler, Network info, and System Properties. Computers with 8.1 boot much faster. I'm sure the OS has something to do with it too. No crashes, freezes, BSODs, or serious errors so far. If it didn't look so funky, it would be far better! EDIT: on 8.1, right click on the taskbar, select Properties > Navigation tab > and be sure to check "When I sign in or close all apps on a screen, go to the desktop instead of Start". Now you'll never have to see ugly tiles again.

Happy to see new scores here, even if they aren't high (yet). 19,850 is fine helpman. This game isn't easy and I'll be the first to tell you that. Cheap deaths happen if you're not careful. I honestly don't expect a title here for the time being. CC was way easier

I just love this game, is all. On the Easy difficulty I can get over 100K easily. After the first 4 rounds on Medium, it gets easier for me now. The enemies seem slightly less aggressive and intelligent I notice. I'll always do my very best here, and if someone manages to beat my new score I'll be very impressed indeed. I'm also happy to see a few more play. Don't let us intimidate you. This game puts a new spin on the standard maze format.

Inspired by my latest DK run, I went back here too. The last time I saw the spark stage was when I'd play it on the NES, which had all 4 original arcade levels. ExedExes - 54,100

Thanks to smario's latest attempt at this game, I decided to try it again. At the Video Armageddon IX tour from Wolf last November, we played the DK variant Crazy Kong. I actually did pretty well on that game, because it was just a little bit easier and I learned a lot about all the stages (even the "pie factory"). I got 121,100 on that. So with all that experience, I was able to finally clear the first "pie factory" on the real thing, and get farther than ever before. This isn't enough to be top 5 but I am finally out of the basement so to speak. ExedExes - 81,300

So I played the original DonPachi and enjoyed that so much I thought I should return to this. ExedExes - 26,124,810 (plus bonus epic name entry music)

Gotta love a game that forces you to keep moving and NOT stand around because it kills you. ExedExes - 48,200

Thank you all. This time I did use the warp to get to level 3. That only adds 140K to the score. Then from level 3 I got all the way to level 6, where things got a bit too crazy. Keep in mind I have (and still have) the Atari 2600 version and it was probably my favorite game back in the day. Plus, a wireless mouse like I have is just as good as a trackball (although I didn't try helpman's adjustments). Just remember, the enemies always appear in the same place on each maze. Run through the gem eaters as they eat, defeat Berthilda with the magic hat and get the honey quick before the bees (not tornadoes) become too much. I am proud to have finally earned my 3rd GOTM title as well as the final one for 2014. I had tough competition this month (it used to be easier to get a GOTM title around here!) but we all push each other to be our best. Good luck in 2015!

Well cramp my style. Medium IS much harder than Easy. So the version that I play on a real cabinet every so often must be on Easy, because I can do over 100K on a good day. Plus, the EXTRA letters are much harder to put together. That just means that new strategies will have to be used. ExedExes - 89,270 GC - please change the original post You have it as "Please use these settings when submitting a hi-score for Crystal Castles". As much as I'd like to repeat my success on such a great game, I think that would become redundant!

I was hoping Ladybug would be the GOTM, but thanks for including it. So yeah, Strider. Lots of action for sure. Haven't played it in a while, and only 2 lives too! ExedExes - 33,150 GC - You might want to make the Difficulty in red too under the settings -- I had to change mine from 2 to 4. It wasn't default @ 4.

Aye, that boss isn't easy. Not even a lot of bombs and charge shots aren't enough to take it down! That score, however.... ExedExes - 2,614,760

This is what I get for not visiting this sub-forum often, because you know, high scores have to be made and all. It may be 20 days late, but thanks to all!

To clarify, when they mean "need to be unlocked", there is apparently a feature that unlocks additional warps in addition to those immediately available in the game based on the number of games played on a real cabinet, that is why they mention that just in case someone is attempting a score on the real machine. In MAME as well as arcade cabinets that have their # of plays set to 0, there are several warp zones available to the player right away without having to play multiple games, but there won't be those additional warps that come from multiple games. As I said in my previous post, even though there is a 140K bonus for the first one you're also advancing 2 whole sets of levels to Level 3, where it gets more difficult, so it's not like the game gets any easier. The OP did say they were allowed, and TG allows it too, so therefore I think it will be OK. Some people might want the instant bonus but then you miss a lot of the good levels in between (and I do believe you'd score more playing through Level 1 and 2 without using it)

Twin Galaxies does allow warps on their scoreboard. It is also allowed as per the original post here. If we're going to stick with their settings I don't see why not. My score didn't use any, but if they allow it we should too. Besides, if you take the points to do that, you also take the risk because you're going to a harder level.

Aye, good scores from them this month. This game just gave me the fits, and I can do much better on the NES port, had no idea what I was doing wrong, but maybe the odd control was a bit to blame too.
