Seeing a new score for this game made me play it again, and this time even better! ExedExes - 394,390

I really want to like the original, but as much as that NES port is difficult as heck, I know my way around that a little better. Still, this is progress. ExedExes - 101,670

I like to think that when the staff throws up a new game, they think about my impact on it. Gaplus is such an example. I've been playing it for years as Galaga 3 and I still play cabinets of it to this day. The way to big points is mastering those challenge stages. You get many more extra lives that way. Now, from what I see, starting in MAME version .148u3, the new parent for gaplus.zip is Gaplus (GP2 rev. B ). Previous to this version it was Gaplus (rev. D). I recently upgraded to .152 and now I got this score on GP2 rev. B. Too bad it doesn't show the parsec you ended at here, but it was the one after the 4th challenge stage (spelled TRIPLE). I knew I could do better at this, so I did. So glad too, since I screwed up on my initials on the score underneath this one! I'm not EZ-E! ExedExes - 62,851

To be honest, I didn't vote this one in because I knew the scoring potential wasn't gonna be there. But, I am pretty good at this having played many different cabinets over the years, as well as the old DOS port on the PC! Strength is calculated AFTER you die. Your score is determined by points earned from kills in the various stages, then as you lose lives, you lose a little bit of score for each life, and the last figure is your Strength score. So I think going by Strength as far as the competition is concerned, is probably the best way. In that case here's mine. ExedExes - 89.3 EDIT: Raw score (and pic are also included), which was 118.5

Green Beret, as well as I know it thanks to Konami's US division having a sense of humor in the 80s, was called Rush 'n Attack. I am more familar with the super difficult NES port as well as a pixel perfect conversion on Konami's Arcade Advance on the GBA (which is slightly harder than the real thing). The bar is set high by M.O. so let me get in between here. ExedExes - 90,520

In MAMEUI, you just have to right click on the game and select Properties, then enable mouse input in the Controller pad. My stick doesn't have a trackball, so I just used it as I would one.

Since all I can do for now is update my old scores, why not? I figured out how to finally use my mouse for this game in MAMEUI, so here be something new. ExedExes - 46,711

Time to take this one back. Finally beat Stage 3's boss, but I do not like Stage 4. Not many opportunities to score, it's more survival at this point. ExedExes - 7,223,440

Qix! As is my thing, port-wise, I loved it on the Game Boy. Totally unpredictable as heck. This was my best today. ExedExes - 44,848

It's a single-screen run n gun, using joysticks. TAD Corporation's similar previous game, Cabal, used a stick or some cabinets had a trackball for movement.

Far be it from me to scare people off from playing! I just happen to have tons of real world arcade experience and I've been using MAME for well over 15 years. I'm not good at everything. Look at my scores for Donkey Kong and Q*Bert for some good examples. I'm not exactly the best there. I'm gonna give you all a bit of help. Check out this site for some tips.

WOW! Like Wonder Boy 3, this is a real surprise from Data East! Take the run n gun action of Mercs and Smash TV, and add a weird pinball element. This is easily the most fun out of the 31 games we have scoreboards for. I played this one for well over an hour. I really don't like the ghost town, nor its boss. ExedExes - 5,656,300

What a shmup this from is, from a company not exactly known for them. It was a good thing I read this thread before I started, because I learned a bit more about the different color bosses. According to links here and here, the green boss in Stage 1 can be had by: 1) Using banish on all power up ships to get the full P symbols 2) Grabbing the extra bomb before the boss appears 3) Not using any bombs through the stage. That's only for Stage 1's boss. The other bosses are currently being looked into in those links I posted. I can't seem to get past stage 2's boss for now, however. ExedExes - 1,116,520

Awright, Juno First is first in hopefully a long line of trustworthy suggestions by yours truly. Before we begin, here's your benchmark score. ExedExes - 230,060 Now I hear you all groaning and leaving the thread, but before you bolt for the doors, I'm gonna help out those who are less familiar with this game. Think of it as a vertical Defender. You have the long range scanner on the top, enemies that roughly resemble and appear just like the alien landing ships, and even the chance to save humans here. Plus, the second button is your Warp, that will get you out of trouble, much like Hyperspace can. Each wave has many of these alien ships, but you can easily avoid them and their shots by moving up to speed up, and holding down will reverse the direction of your ship. Yes, you can travel backwards in this game, and it might help. A warning though, the longer the ships stay alive, the harder they'll be to destroy, they will change colors and fire faster. Be on the lookout for a blue circular space capsule (looks like an asteroid) with a spaceman inside once shot at. Pick him up for fast points, then the screen turns red and you enter a special mode where the enemies don't fire back, but they also don't appear on the screen quite as fast - these enemies start at a certain point value and increase by 200 pts for each one (up to 3200 pts) you can kill during the red screen period. When a wave is cleared, you receive a point bonus for time remaining. (anywhere from 100 - 400 (depending on wave) multiplied by every 5 seconds left on the timer, example if you had 64 seconds left in wave 1 it would be 100 X 12 = 1200) You have 3 uses per stage of the Warp feature by pressing the second button, it temporarily breaks your ship up clearing the screen, and you'll use that to avoid enemy fire, collisions, and the dreaded mines that appear starting in Wave 4, which are best avoided by reversing your ship and shooting them, because scrolling them off the screen doesn't always work. Extra lives are at every 100K. That's it for now, hope more of you will try this!

Soooo glad this won! I've been playing this forever. This score's a little better than what I usually get. ExedExes - 401,300

This new score doesn't move me up any positions, but it really just secures my current spot. ExedExes - 413,480

Sitting down with this one again. A few runs later, I found that this game has quite the rhythm to it, and add in all those extra lives you can easily rack up! ExedExes - 254,400

Well, at least GC doesn't have to worry about a 100 point difference anymore with my latest update ExedExes - 35,500 I knew I could do just a *little* bit better at it. I only saw the stage with the electricity *once* playing the real cabinet.

How have I not come across such a cool game like this? I've played the first and knew about Hudson borrowing it for their Adventure Island series, but this, it's a little bit of that (with auto scrolling) and even a shmup section? It's a winner. Except the boss battles are a bit drawn out and tapping buttons gets a bit old! ExedExes - 129,160

I've played Super R-Type enough to possibly know a thing or two about this -- that yellow weapon is nice for Stage 2, but the Stage 4 boss I'll have to learn a little bit more. ExedExes - 190,700
