  1. So @DazzleHP , did you have some suggestions for me? Windows 7.
  2. I saw that this has not been answered, so I will give it a go. I am not familiar with a 'hi score' feature, but I do know a bit about themes. How are you navigating to the 'highscore page/section'? Might it be the Statistics page? Can you post a screenshot?
  3. @parabolic GameEx Arcade is a rerlatively new flavor of GameEx that focuses solely on Mame. Think of it as the standard GameEx with a large number of settings hard-coded. While this makes setup easier, it also means that a number of options have been decided for you. I believe this version is aimed at cabinet enthusists and people who want a simpler setup. I have worked with the standard GameEx for a pretty long time and I am not aware of a setting that would launch GameEx directly into a Mame games list or the Mame menu. Since the arcade version essentially follows the standard version, I do believe that the option you are looking for does not exist there either. I also did take some time looking over GameEx Arcade to make it happen, but I could not find one. But, I can definately understand why you might want this feature. I would suggest posting a comment in the Feature Request thread HERE. Now it is possible that I just have not come accross this option you are looking for, so maybe wait a bit to see if any of the other forum goers chime in with a yay or nay.
  4. We all have to start somewhere, right? Not easily (and it's not worth trying). Mame has a verifyroms command that can be used to check a rom to see if it is incompatible, but not across all versions. In other words, to find out what version a rom is, you would essentially have to download a bunch of different Mame versions and run that command with each of them until you find a Mame that says it is a match. Not my idea of fun. One thing to know about Mame is that the guys that work on Mame are consistantly changing it to increase compatibility with games. Each new version of Mame could mean small changes or really huge changes. When these changes happen, some roms also have to be updated so they are compatible. Non-compatible roms may work poorly or not at all. So having a matching set of roms is your best bet for things to work as best as possible. There will be many games that will work despite being diferent versions, but the further apart you get, the more problems you will likely come across when trying to run them. What GameEx does to create it's list based on the settings in your config to generate the list of games that will show up. Since you are unsure about your versions, the best we can do is to check your config so that it is the way you want it and see what you get. I do not see anything bad about your config (assuming the paths are all correct). It is about as open as you can possibly make it (it is about what I have for mine in fact). You are allowing everything except adult, mahjong, casino, and filtered titles. You have the Verify ROMS option set to Yes. This means that when GameEx is building the list, it is taking your huge list and checking each rom with Mame for compatibility. If it fails the check, it is not included in the final list. Your short list is likely mostly due to the Verify ROMS. You have two options as I see it: If you are comfortable that your current mame and roms work well enough together, turn off Verify ROMS and rerun the list. Then test things out. Keep in mid that you will probably run across games in the list that do not work. Figure out a way to get matching versions and then rerun the list (this would be my sugestion). Please be aware that we won't point you in a direction on how to go about doing this. Hopefully you have learned enough about this hobby to understand why this is and you can figure it out on your own. Either way, once you have a really big list that appears ok, then you can try changing options to get rid of clones, allowing imperfect games, etc, etc. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just being helpful is all. There are guys on this forum that really know Mame inside and out. I do ok. I am a pretty nice guy though. That should count for something.
  5. Hey jimdeprado, Welcome to the forums. We should be able to get you pointed in the right direction. The runitgame.bat does not indicate anything bad that is obvious. Unfortunately, the entire GameEx.ini contents did not appear under the spoiler you posted (it happens). A log file may also be helpful. Would you do the following steps: Start GameEx and try to run a game (10 Yard Fight is as good a choice as any). Even if it fails to run for any reason, that's ok. It will gather some info in the log file. Find the log.txt file in the GameEx\LOG folder. Grab a copy of the GameEx.ini in the GameEx\CONFIG folder (which you already know how to do). Grab a copy of runitgame.bat from the GameEx\DATA folder (again, you know this too). Post the files as attachments instead of in spoilers. You can just drag the files to the paperclip icon at the bottom of the window and they will be attached as files instead. Let us know what game you attempted to run. This should give us some background info to start with. One other question. The version of your roms should match the mame version (for example, if you are running Mame 1.62, your roms should be version 1.62 for best compatibility). Can you say for certain that your versions match across Mame and all roms? And one other observation: I saw that you have your Roms located on your desktop (which is automatically located within a user directory). While this will not break anything, we usually suggest that everything be set up outside the user folders (such as c:\GameEx, C:\programs\GameEx, etc.). Your call, but I thought I would mention it.
  6. Cowards...all cowards! Is there no one to challenge the might of my Kung Fu?!?!?!?!? I laugh in your general direction. HA HA HA HA HA HA
  7. Glad you made some headway on NES. Getting one emulator to work in through GameEx does make getting others working a bit easier. Normally, we ask that you create one thread for each issue (or group of issues if they are related). It can get confusing when we start talking about multiple issues in the same thread. Please do this for N64 and the Hide Desktop issues and include the files like you did just above. Thanks . As for the other questions, I think this will help. Different emulators have different settings. Sometimes you have to hunt them down, but I happen to use both Nestopia and Snes9x. MAME BEZELS: There is an option under Advance Mame Settings called Use Bezel. NESTOPIA FULL SCREEN: I believe this command line will get you what you want: Nestopia.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" -video fullscreen There is also an option in Nestopia under View > Show > Menu/Dialog that needs to be unchecked. SNES9X FULL SCREEN: ...and this one for SNES9x: snes9x-x64.exe -fullscreen "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" There is an option in SNES9x under Video > Hide Menubar that should be checked.
  8. Not a bad little channel. Definately worth a sub. Thanks.
  9. My first thought was Hand of Fate, but that is probably an obscure game. God of War?
  10. The game begins. How powerful is your Kung Fu? 55,600
  11. Thats cool. You gave me some options to try and I do appreciate the time and help. I also figured that once we had it working outside GameEx with WMP, GameEx would be fine. It sounds like your karaoke module is acting like mine. May be a bug I suppose. I would just be surprised that no one else may have reported it. Hopefully Dazzle will have some good suggestions.
  12. One of the Burnout games? How about another clue? Console or Arcade?
  13. @mviars I was trying to use the integrated karaoke functionality that GameEx has. Part of the reasoning was to become familiar with that aspect of GameEx to help others. VLC has pretty good command line options and I don't doubt it will work fine as an emulator (thanks for the screen shots by the way). @DazzleHP I am running Windows 7. I know where you are coming from. Codecs are one of the things I am not so familiar with. Other than fddshow and Haali Media Splitter for mkv files and the lav filters for GameEx, I tended to stay away froim packs. Because of this little project, I have tried a number of things such as Karaoke for DirectX as mviars suggested (which I think was ok) and the Shark007 pack (which I uninstalled right after trying). Anyway, if you have suggestions, I am all ears.
  14. Hes running a theme that uses both the snap and image2 files. In some cases one or both do not appear. I think we ruled out the graphics files for one rom, but just yesterday I asked him to upload the graphics he has for one game so I could see an example. The Mame System Pack is really nice in that you can get everything from one place, but it can take some time to grab...will keep it as an alternative I think. He's using the integrated Mame. Also, feel free to make these suggestions in the thread he started. Members helping members is what makes this a nice community to hang around in.
  15. Yes, I can open an mp3 in VLC through the Media\Open File dialog or by dragging and dropping and VLC will play the song and display the data from the cdg file...but VLC has always been a fantastic player. Even when you do not have the appropriate codecs installed for WMP, chances are VLC will work. I am not surprised that it plays karaoke. However, if I try to play a cdg file, it opens an extra window called Direct3D Output. Both windows display the lyrics of the song, but the music does not play. I am not entirely sure why it is doing it this way, but whatever. Anyway, I tried associating both cdg and mp3 files with VLC and it did not affect GameEx. But oddly enough, when I browse the song list in GameEx Karaoke now, the snap windows will show video of the song lyrics scrolling. when I try to play the song, the screen goes black for a moment and then returns to the song list. when I look at the log, it shows an entry that the video file for the song (ie the cdg) was played and then the next line says that the video file could not be played. It's the same file. I still have to try the K-Lite codecs.
  16. @zeck73 Well, I thought that there was a cache to clear for Mame, but I just learned that there wasn't...so the fresh install you did was as good as that can get. I hate to say but I am starting to run out of ideas for the Snap (top image). It is REALLY straight forward. For the theme you chose, that is Image1. Image1 simply displays a matching jpg or png from whatever folder you assign Snaps to in the Setup Wizard. Hopefuly we figure something out. The lower image in your theme is Image2. There is more to this one. GameEx will first look for a Logo, then Margee, then Flyer, Cpanel, and then Title. When it does not find a match, it checks the next folder. Of course, these images must also be jpg or png and depend on whatever folder you assigned in the Setup Wizard. Please do this: If what you ultimately want is the Snap on the top and the Marquee on the bottom, clear the paths for Logo, Flyer, Cpanel, and Title in the Setup Wizard. Then, recreate the GameEx game list (I am not sure if this is necessary, but usually when you change something in the Mame config, you want to do this). If the changes do not lead to a fix or new information, please zip up the 4in1 image files into an archive and post the file here: Snap, Logo, Margee, Flyer, Cpanel, and Title. Since the files will all be named the same thing, just rename them to something like 4in1_logo.jpg, 4in1_marquee.jpg, etc. Change the filename, but not the extension. Also repost your GameEx.ini after the changes to the Mame setup.
  17. I had the cdg files associated with WMP. After seeing your post, I tried associating the cdg files with playcda.exe in the KaraokeDX directory (and rebooted), but received the same error: "...cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used..." @mviars I will give the K-Lite pack a try. Messing with codecs is one of my least favorite things to do because I don't know a lot about them and I know that things can get messed up along the way...but I want ot get this working if I can. But, considering we have tried most of what SHOULD work, I am almost tempted to set up Karaoke as an emulator using VLC (which does play the files...because that thing plays almost everything on it's own).
  18. Thanks for the info. I find it hard to believe it would be a bug. We will keep at it.
  19. Graphics. The issue he is having is that certain snaps are not appearing when he moves through the lists. We've eliminated simple causes such as missing files and filename mismatches. Thinking now that 'clearing the cache' might be worthwhile. He has already removed the GameEx directory and reinstalled.
  20. Thanks for the help, but sadly it made no difference. WMP still says it "...cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used...". I tried opening the cdg several ways (dragging, through the Open File dialog). WMP plays the MP3 just fine, but it plays it just like any normal MP3 (ie, no words are displayed). Any other suggestions? Before this, I believe that the only codecs I had installed was the lav files that work with GameEx. Maybe I should clear all my codecs and start again. Any suggestions on how to do that? I've not heard of a codec cleaner or anything similar.
  21. Trying to help @zeck73 here with a snapshot issue and I am unfamiliar with how GameEx handles asset information for Mame (such as cache files). It appears that if there is a cache, it may not be in the GameEx folders. So, is there a way to reset the 'mame cache' in the same way as other emulators? I did some peaking aorund the forums, but did not come across an article that shed some light. Thanks.
  22. @orsty3001 You said that you upgraded your mame to 0.182. Are you familiar with the proper and improper way to upgrade mame? For instance, you cannot update existing roms to a new version without processing them through something like CLRMamePro. Please let us know how you did the upgrade as an improper upgrade could lead to the issue you are commenting on.
  23. Thanks mviars. At this point, I am stuck.
  24. @Draco1962 Unless the mame cache is not within that range. Then we might think it has been reset, but it actually hasn't. I should have tried editing those files earlier, but I have poked around now. EMU_1000 is for Daphne, EMU_1002 for Steam, and EMU_801 for GameEx Online (I believe). Mame does nto appear to be among those and I can't find a reference to a cache when searching the forum. I assumed that there was a Mame cache in the same way that the other emulators' assets are cached. If Mame is handled differently in that respect, I am not familiar with it. @zeck73 When you reinstalled GameEx, did you make sure the contents of the entire GameEx directory was cleared and then reinstalled fresh?
  25. Well, that's one way to fix things up! ...but a clean setup to start from isn't so bad either.... As for Daytona USA, if you have HideOS turned on, you may want to turn it off and give it another run. Maybe you will see something that will help. If you have not checked the log.txt file in GameEx/LOG after an attempt, that may also give some insight. You could also post the your GameEx.ini and the log.txt and we can give it a look over.
