  1. That's generally how I have played it as well, but it appears that sites are not archiving older support files. The closest may very well be the best one can hope for. I am trying to find a mameinfo.dat for 0139 and came up totally empty. I also did not find many of the support files for that version.
  2. I've not been able to find an answer to this, so I thought I would throw it out here. When using ini and dat files with Mame, is it bad or no big deal to use versions newer than the Mame version? For example, if I have Mame 0139 and can only find Mameinfo.dat of 0156, would this be generally considered safe or would it cause problems? What about other files like command.dat, mame.dat, history.dat, catver.ini, nplayers.ini, controls.ini? I assume that for the most part using a later version is ok since these don't actually contain any configuration data (except perhaps mame.dat or mameinfo.dat). This is also related to a 139 Mame set I am trying to validate after updating from 138 to 139 using clrMamePro (I think I have that program figured out). I am trying to also rule out suspects there.
  3. Happy B-day man. Enjoy the time out with the Fam!
  4. @hirkos97 You say you 'tried' to reinstall the font. Were you successful? Is the font in your font list?
  5. Happy Fraking Birthday Dude!!!
  6. A few here: Wii Console (Dolphin) Gamecube (Dolphin) N64 (Project64) SNES (Snes9x) NES (Nestopia) GBA (VisualBoy Advance) Genesis (Fusion) Sega32x (Fusion) SegaCD (Fusion) Saturn (SSF) Dreamcast (NullDC) PS1 (ePSXe) PSP (PPSSPP) Neo-Geo Pocket Color (NeoPop) NeoGeoCD (NeoCD) Mame-a-rino (Mewui64) Which reminds me...It may be time to start looking for emulator updates. Mr Austin recently did a few videos for Top 10 emulators for 2017 here and here. Well worth a look I say. I have other stuff configured, but it's mostly to help others in troubleshooting. I wish I had a good enough rig for PS2, but ah well.
  7. @jbam Sounds like you got the imprtant stuff covered. @Tom Speirs Hey Tom, do you have any suggestions for jbam?
  8. I was able to get mine working from the start, but I am on Windows 7 64 bit. Mame must be working outside the screen saver, but you said that your Mame executable and rom set were the same version and that it was working well. You said you were a bit new to Mame, but you seam to know the importance of versions matching up, so I am going to assume you are good there. Recheck the Mame Screensaver Configuration (ie the Settings) again in case there is a typo and recreate the game list. Be sure to click the Game List Filter/Management button and doublecheck that "Only Fully Working" is checked (on the off chance that your test pulled a non-working game). Also, I assume you have .net framework 2 installed as it is a requirement for the screen saver. If you have later versions installed, I believe you should already have it. If you are not sure, this site gives a pretty good walk-through on checking if you have it already. If you still cannot get it to work, please post a screenshot of your Mame Screensaver Configuration. Then we can flag down the dev and see if he has a suggestion.
  9. Sorry, but I am not familiar with ROMLister or ROMCenter. Unless someone else knowledgeable chimes in, the best I can suggest is to look around for reviews or just tinker around with both and see which works for you. As far as the screen saver, I think you may have missed what I was saying. You will need to enter stuff in the Settings tab of the screen saver (see below): Once your settings are entered, press the button at the bottom that I highlighted. This will generate a game list that the screensaver will use to choose games to display. Keep in mind that this list is generated based on the Mame executable and roms that you enter above...so if you ever decide to make changes to Mame such as recompiling the executable, changing folders, updating rom versions, etc, you would want to update the Settings and generate the list again.
  10. Here's my best so far. Tough game if you don't get and spend the powerups well. 46,600
  11. Hi jbam, Did you remember to create the MAME game list in the screensaver settings? If you do not generate the list, the screensaver will just flash at you when you attempt to preview it.
  12. VSGradus, first attempt: 77,700
  13. You are correct. GameEx is a launcher. When you launch a game within GameEx, GameEx will take a batch file called runitgame.bat and update it with all the settings and parameters you configured in the Setup Wizard. It then executes that batch file to start the emulator. GameEx then sits in the background waiting for the emulator to close down before moving back to the forefront. I am not familair with Rocketlauncher, but I asusme that Rocketlauncher acts as a shell with the emulators running 'inside'. While this means it is able to do some additional fancy things like custom bezels for any emulator, this type structure usually requires more system resources. What it really comes down to is a difference in how each dev team decided to implement their projects. Both ways have their benefits and drawbacks.
  14. Sorry, but there is none. We really do not support people doing their own databases. If you have some SQL or database knowledge and want to dig into it yourself, you certainly can do so. We may give some tips on general functionality, but for the most part you will be on your own. About a year and a half ago, I took some time to make some custom database files for popular consoles like Nes, SNES, and Genesis so I could not only fill in missing data but to also fix titles that were not finding a match. It wasn't long after that the GameEx team announced a new feature (ratings) that was to be added. I was concerned that this would render my custom databases incompatible unless I also added the new data object. My SQL is pretty basic, so I decided to abandon any more work on it since I did not want an update to essentially make my work useless. I should mention that I am still using my databases and they are working, but I have no idea how long they may be good for GameEx or if they will be compatible with GameEx Evolution when it is released. I would also love to see the databases be more complete and I know that the team does work on them, but it is a pretty big undertaking. Patience is my advice. I have not really looked at how GameEx utilizes them...but looking at the DATA folder, my guess is that you are correct or pretty darn close. A long time ago, I decided to use my own mapfiles so that I could have nice, consistant title names for all my emulators. Thus I was able to 'adjust' titles that utilized European/Japanese/German/etc names instead of USA as well as shorten a few that did not fit nicely on the screen. It took a bit of work on the front side, but once they were done, they were done. I used the import/export feature in Excel along with some simple formulas to generate the map file (which is just a .txt file renamed to .map). You could do something similar by making a copy of the .map file in the DATA folder, editing it, and then set it up in the Advanced Emulator config in the Setup Wizard. If you are determined to give database editing a go, make a copy of the file you want to edit and rename it (like "[Console] Nintendo NES - custom.db3"). As long as the new file is placed in the GameEx\DATA\EMULATORS folder, it will show up in the database list in the Setup Wizard so you can 'attach' it to the emulator. I used SqliteBrowser3 to browse and edit the databases. It is a light-weight program. It's also free! GameEx will overwrite databases periodically when a new version is part of a version update. As long as you give your custom database a different name, it will not be overwritten.
  15. Henceforward, I dub this day, the 28th day of May as Scruffy-Nerf-Herder Day! And so shall it be!!!
  16. OK, I will throw my best score in here: 14,000 I think board 3 is as high as I got...maybe 4.
  17. What version of GameEx are you using? 'Plugin Manager' is no longer a term that is used in the Setup Wizard. It may help if you post your GameEx.ini file and log.txt file. They can be found in the CONFIG and LOG folders.
  18. The Amiga database is very incomplete (assuming I am looking at the same one you are). Many of the entries do not even have the basic information to form a match. As for those that do have entries, I have a feeling your filenames may be too different to form a match. Updating the databases is a HUGE undertaking and there is always effort put into getting updates out, but there is no telling when the next update of that database may happen. The exact filename match is "Jim Power in Mutant Planet_Disk1" which should yield a name of "Jim Power in Mutant Planet". If you want to tinker with it, you could try changing the JimPower rom name to something closer such as "Jim Power" to closer match the Gamebase database entry. If the exact match still does not work, you could try another variation or you may want to clear the cache for that emulator in case something isn't working right there. However, I suggest using a mapfile until the database is more complete. At least you can have a nice, clean list even if a little work is needed to get one. If you have further questions, please post your GameEx.ini so we can see your entire config.
  19. Tested it last night. It will not display a video from another folder if the video is not in the designated Video Snap folder.
  20. Regular GameEx does this for images, but not videos. The exception is that GameEx wants to show a video but none exists, it will try to show an image...but you can't show a video in place of an image. I am not sure how Arcade handles it, but my guess is that it is the same as regular. The files have the following pecking order: IMAGE1 (usually Logo or Title): Logo Title Box Cart Emulator Logo Blank IMAGE2 (Usually Video or Snap): Video Image Snap Emulator Logo Blank Older themes only have one image (I believe both v1 and v2). V3 and v4 can have an Image1 and Image2. Also, keep in mind that theme creators can be pretty creative, so they may use assets in unconventional ways. There are also a few other exceptions. For example, if a snap is not found, the Snap Not Found image will be displayed if there is one. I believe the Emulator Logo may also be displayed if an image other than a snap is not found (but I am not sure of all the combos). Evo is still cooking and there is no date for it's full release. Only the devs really know how images will be handled there, but I expect either similar functionality or something more versatile.
  21. I appreciate the link, but I find it hard to trust links that hide behind URL aliases. If you have a link to a 'legit' emulator site that shows the actual address (well, as 'legit' as such a site can be anyway), I am still willing to take a look (unless someone else wants to, of course...all though I am still curious). Also, don't worry about your English. You are doing fine. For the most part, I think the communication in the thread has been pretty good for everyone. If we need to ask a few more questions to make sure we are on the same page, that's ok.
  22. @Adultery OK, I broke down and ordered me a Raspberry Pi 3...so no need to watch for deals (thanks for the offer though). I haven't decided what to do with it beyond retropie, but I have not ruled out going all hamm and doing a table top kit like this. After the great help I got with my joystick referb, I am feeling pretty confident that I could pull it off if I go that route.
  23. I do not believe GameEx Arcade supports windowed mode. When I do testing, I prefer windowed mode and I have not been able to get it to go. I believe the setting allows for Full Screen Windowed or Full Screen. GameEx Arcade was designed with Arcade cabinets in mind, but I don't think that includes Pinball cabs. You could put up a request for it. Please specify that it is for Arcade.
  24. @175650 I tried the link, but it said that the rar is empty or corrupted But hopefully Adultry's exaplanation helpped. At least you can confirm if the setup he suggested is indeed what you have (as far as the .lnk files)...but if that is the case, then you should be able to double-click on a .lnk file to run the game. @stigzler Not sure...maybe?!?!?!
  25. I looked through the thread. Maybe I missed it, but it appears to be about getting the launcher/emulator to work on it's own. Was there some GameEx-related stuff I missed?
