  1. If you go into Tweaks/Performance you can set a sleep delay in milliseconds which gameex releases to the CPU for each frame. GameEx runs in a main loop and is constantly running code. Even sitting in the main menu it is drawing to the screen each monitor refresh, and processing input, audio and the display. On my living room room PC, I have the sleep setting at 8 MS. This makes GameEx run at around 50% usage and still at full smooth frame rate. Although I do have an athlon 64 3400. You can set this sleep setting higher if you turn off the VSYNC. This is like the VSYNC in MAME where if you look at the mame docs states it takes up CPU cycles. On an 800Mhz you will probably notice a slow down with the sleep setting unless you turn off Vsync too, but I run it on my my MCE machine to make sure the PC has plenty of power left for recording TV. I did think this is covered in the docs page. Should I write up some more on it?

    SUB FOLDERS

I do still plan to add folder support for emulators. Please be patient.
  3. Hi, it may well be a problem that we can fix (see below). However if you have an older machine and a lot of ROMS, the Verify can take longer than half an hour to run. You can turn off Verify Roms though in the config under advanced mame options. Turn it off and then turn on Only ROMS that exist. You should be happy with that.
  4. Yes it does. Its a compiled auto-it script (Which can be decompiled by the way). It does set the focus for the window. It also allows exiting with just the escape. It also bypasses all the disclaimer and default setup screen for PinMAME. It was written by me a while back.
  5. hmmm. Somethings deffinitly up then. Ill add it to the list. Tom
  6. Youve been, err, well kind of quiet! I hate to say it but I (and am sure the group is) missing your input. Are you receiving? EDIT: Or are you too busy playing MAME to the max with your switchable controls!?
  7. I know the memory usage is high. Its similar to an app like MCE or other HTPC software. I really dont know why it needs quite so much. I dont see any obvious optimisations, but is a possibly. There may be a memory leak for avi snap videos though possibly. However GameEx uses as much CPU time as you want it to, and all of it by default. Theres info about this on the docs page. I agree, it is bloated for old (and I mean very old) systems, but as I've said before, GameEx is a high end frontend and basically htpc software. Its designed for MCE systems, and full spec arcade machines. It aint mean to run on a 486. On all my modern systems, its stable as a rock, and runs for days and days without a slow down or issue, but then again I dont own a system with less than 512MB. I also only run NT based OS's. Would you run DOOM 3, any of the available HTPC software or even Windows XP on a pentium 2? I can highly recommend MAMEWah or Gamelauncher if you want a smaller less functional front end. Tom
  8. Yes, Ill look at it, it only takes a maximum of 5 seconds on 3 of my systems, and on my 3400 Athlon 64 with 1GB (my Living room HTPC PC) about 1 second. So I doubt this is happening for everyone, therefore dont really know what's causing it. I know it does take a fair bit longer than it used to save as theres a lot more settings, but a minute on a 3GHZ is crazy! Have you got latest version of the .net framework including service pack? What RAM do you two have?

    Remap keys

I do certainly understand the need for this feature, and I am working on it. Please be patient.
  10. You should setup JoyToKey as a LaunchBefore cmd not Also Launch. The way then to do it is setup a 'launch on exit' command, to close/end process for JoyToKey. There are a few easy ways to close a process. You can use tools such as AutoIt and BatchRun. Someone else (retroguy) has done exactly this. See this post: http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?showtopic=203 Hope this helps. Tom

    Jukebox Help

The controls should appear in the top right corner of the screen if the jukebox is playing, and enable controls is set. Are they not there? These controls are operated by the mouse. Can you post a screenshot with a jukebox track playing? The track name should also appear at the top of the screen in the toolbar. Perhaps you have the toolbar disabled? That could be why? They also dont show when in Arcade Mode or showing at ArcadeVGA low res resolutions. Could that be it? The jukebox should accept the normal input keys for skip and previous plus Play/Pause. I have a little control on my Wireless bluetooth keyboard here, and they seem to work fine. I do know that when DirectInput for keyboard is enabled these keys do not work, and neither does my MCE remote. Could that be it perhaps?
  12. Hey Cupid, I do like them. I think so too. Do you think you could make the changes you suggested (size), continue to work on them and get them ready for me to include? Ideally the images will need to be no greater than 190X140 (can be smaller), with the text clear and visible at this size. The images will be ovelayed over the video so will need a black background which will be the transparency key. They also should not be any anti aliased or softened (can be be casued by scaling in photoshop) edges. Otherwise they will look good. I hope you can continue with this good work. I like this and all your other ideas and want to do this.
  13. In your MAME directory, you can also try deleting Listinfo.dat and Verify.dat Also, the attached log is not entirely the same as the first post in this thread, because it looks like GameEx was exited normally rather than a crash. Although it may not have been. Does updating the Gamelist just do nothing? Rather than actually crash? Also, it looks like your running on Windows Server 2003. Is this correct? Was this the same OS that you were originally able to update the list with? Tom
  14. I think this is as we talked before, its because you have 'show game information' turned off. The images are available after you select a game. Tom
  15. It should work with spaces in the path. Not sure why thats not working. Can you try deleting gamelist.txt in the Data directory, then see if the list will update? Tom
  16. Yes, you need to add the files to the Windows Media Player Library.
  17. First Turn off debug. Then do either of the following: Set ShowDesktop to true for this emulator in GameEx (this should deffinitly work). Or Make epsxe run full screen with DirectX
  18. Hi, no problem about language. I like to pride myself on GameEx being a multi nationality application and community. Even though I only speak English, so I have a worse problem then you I know exactly where you are coming from. I have had the problem when making the default themes. The solution is to cut round (out) the logo in your image software so there are no edges whatsoever. It will then display fine. GameEx will never likely support alpha blending as it uses DirectDraw as a core and not Direct3D.
  19. Nobody has. UNC paths are not supported in GameEx. At all. You need to map drives. You can do this in windows explorer and have the map reconnect at startup. You can also do this with a batch file using the Net Use command if for whatever reason you have problems with the first method, and then have windows run this on startup before GameEx.

    nag screen

It does not work, the MAME nag screen is somehow protected against this behaviour.
  21. Thanks Cupid, that's great. I'll check out the PSD shortly, I just need to install Photoshop again. Should be able to add images no problem. And yes, I am planning on adding TV viewing and recording functionality. Although it will only be supported on WinXP SP2 and above. I am taking the very easy route and using the Microsoft TV ActiveX Control. It will only support recording for cards that have MPEG encoding or Digital TV cards where the signal is already MPEG2. A 350 should work fine. Cheers. Tom
  22. It sounds like you are using another seperate batch file to launch epsxe. Why??
  23. I think your probably running an old version of MAME32 that does not support the command line options that GameEx has as default. What version of MAME32 are you running? Try removing the command line options under Advance MAME settings. or Get a newer version of MAME32 or try the command line only version from http://mame.net
  24. 23rd May 2005 - GameEx 4.03 The new videos module now has an info page where you can resume playing a file from the last position. Category list in favourites now lists and allows filter by emulator. Window can now be restored/maximized when playing a DVD or video. Enhanced start-up logging. Now shows MAME version information. If 5 or 6 (Credit button) is pressed when in attract mode the current game will not exit and can be played. Updated German translation by Cupid. Fixed bug where vertical MNG videos would not play at certain widescreen resolutions.
