i have a problem with fonts too. for example if i use the LCD font (which Draco used in one of his themes, the one with the cool animated selection bar). when using this font in italic, the font gets truncated / cut on the edges. it would be nice if you can tell them about this problem too. i am not sure, but i think it has something to do, with the bitmaps that are created from the fonts and that they have not enough space in between the letters. so that small fonts in height or fonts that are wider than normal (i.e. italic), show some stuff of the other letters in the ABC or are cutted on the edges. it looks like GameEx is using a grid on the generated bitmap of the fonts and this grid is to small for the letters.

you will need patience..... a lot of it. if you dont have a GameEx license, i recommend you to buy one. without, you will hate that nag-screen . theme-editing / skinning, is what it says, nothing more or less. you cant add new features or stuff like this. you can write a plugin off course. if you plan something bigger, feel free to ask if its even possible to do it the way you intend. otherwise it can be frustrated and time consuming. as Draco said, there are a lot of people here, who are willing to help . as you can work with photoshop, the graphics wont be a big problem. you have a foreground, a background (can be even a video) and one alpha on top of them... start to work

glad that i could help and yes it will take some time to get it like you want, but it is worth to spend it.
-
yes you can remove the configuration option. its in the "Enable / Disable Features" section from the setup wizard. its called "Enable Configuration App". turn it off, by setting it to "No".
-
i am willing to help and started allready with the language.ini, but what is with the rest of GameEx? especially the setup-wizard? the setup-wizard is the part with the most errors. what is with the explanation balloons? they explain each step in the setup. for example the dropdown-menues. "no" is translated into the german word "nicht", it should be "nein". i would like to translate that stuff too. i think that would be some gain for GameEx. IMO the translation of the setup-wizard is more important, than the correct language display, as you do very important stuff with the setup-wizard. basically the heart of GameEx. yeah, if this is a feature, than i clearly can say "i dont like it". first time i realized it, i thought my settings would go away too, but thanks it was the only thing that has changed, comparing the status before the update
-
i think i will do this for german language too.... thx nullPointer, for the usefull link. after every update, GameEx change the language to german. i need to set it back to custom manually everytime. anyway, its funny how some stuff is translated into german . if this is a google translate, than its mostly good, but some points are just funny.

hello and welcome to the forums .... what kind of bus is your ATI card? AGP or PCI-E? depending on the bus you will need either a AGP or PCI-E supporting mainboard. going for worst case and your ATI card is AGP, then you would need to decide, if you stay with AGP you can not use your 6GB DDR3 Ram. if you want to use your Ram then you can not use your ATI card. if this is the case, i would go with the Ram and the newer PCI-E and sell your ATI card. if your ATI-card is PCI-E, i would recommend go with a cheap and good clockable Intel Core2Duo. i dont want to start a religious war here, but Intel is the better choice IMO. buy a mini-ATX Intel mainboard which is compatible with CPU and your RAM and you are good to go. all in all, this is about 100-150 bucks.

the first link i provided in post# 30, leads to MAMEWorlds section of MAME-artwork. the second post on that page, is Mr. Do under his avatar, you just need to click "Send PM", its easy like that. his last post was on august 18th 2012, so chances are good. give it a try.

thank you all guys... so i think i will stay with epsxe and maybe trying nullPointers mentioned Shark-version of it, or just wait till the update as most of the stuff will be implemented anyway. loved all your answers... good job

glad to see, you got the colour-tint working (easy because Background is Black ) .... and the other stuff?..... some need to learn it the hard way, but maybe you suprise me.

i think you messed up the names in the .Lay file of GameEx. The original artwork, works only for that particular game and get its info from the .Lay file. in no way i would change the names in the .lay file from GameEx, as we both dont know which influence this can have. So if you got only Lines over the screen and no bezel, i would bet that GameEx can not find your Custom-image. i dont think it has something to do with the image itself or the size, as there are original artwork that is huge in size (pixels and filesize). i hope you backup-ed your GameEx .lay file, if not here is the code from GameEx: <!-- bezel.lay --> <mamelayout version="2"> <element name="bezel"> <image file="mame.png" /> </element> <view name="Bezel Artwork"> <screen index="0"> <bounds left="140" top="0" right="500" bottom="480" /> </screen> <bezel element="bezel"> <bounds left="0" top="0" right="640" bottom="480" /> </bezel> </view> </mamelayout> <!-- - Artwork type: Bezel - Homebrew bezel by Tom Speirs - Lay file by Mr. Do --> my provided links leads you directly to Mr. Do, who is not only the MAME-chief when it comes to the original artwork for MAME, he also wrote the .Lay file for GameEx. you could write him a e-mail regarding a brief explanation for the .lay file, as i too have no clue how this file exactly works, or you stick with MAME 0.140

yes, i did that too, believe me, BUT i can tell you, it depends on: 1.) choosen fontsize for the theme 2.) how large your collection is, as then the chances are getting higher to have games which will exceed the width of HD easily and there is no way that the maximum is halfway across the screen. i renamed stuff like "manufacturer" into "brand", "category" into "genre" etc. to gain space. i disabled a lot (i think nearly all that was possible, have only "back", "home" and "exit") i even changed the field "menu more" to a single "+" sign , but their are still titles, which exceed HD, or better say destroy the illusion of a perfect theme. the "old" menue style was much better when it comes to skinning a theme and it was more organized as well, IMO. dont like that scrolling in the menue at all . it is not intuitive as the "old" menue was, again IMO.

ok... first go here and read carefully: http://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=267652&page=&view=&sb=5&o=&vc=1 then go here: http://mrdo.mameworld.info/mame_artwork_generic.html if this doesnt work for you.... i am out and as a little bonus for the other helping hands here: http://www.cooleywire.com/jimmyh/mame/artwork.html happy bezeling

you can do that.... with no effect. again... you can do that, but it will not help much, as there will be games with so long names or categorys, that it easily fits an HD screen. Thats why the Menue scrolls then. Only hope is to try a another Version Theme (i.e. V3 or V2), as the menue was managed in another way, back in these days. V4 is a one-line menue and the other version i dont remember has at least 2 or 3 rows. this indeed could work, but be aware that the background would change the color too. even with a perfect Alpha for the Font, it will barely work, as the Menue will change. depending on your decision what you click on the menue, your menue-text will change and the Alpha can not compensate this, hence you would colortint something which is not more in place. But it will work for static Menue Items. however you could use semi-transparent Black-Alpha, this way you would have at least shades of color in your text and with a little talent, the trick will not be visible, resulting in a darker or brighter shade for your font. hope that helps. it is hard for a german to explain something in english, what is a little complex .
-
you can change the size but not with a V4 theme but i dont know exactly which version would make your wish come true. it was either V2 or V3. maybe the other theme-makers here know it better, but i know that this is possible. do some trial and error . V3 can only be achieved by changing the theme.ini. if you open it, you can change the version into V3, but be aware that you will loose some V4 features. make a backup before you try. about the colour, you can not change it. it is sticked to the fontcolour you choose for titles etc. in the theme-editor i would not spend so much space for the menu, but this is just my taste. also i would either get rid of the reflections on the menue and info bars, or make such holes like the bottom-bar allready has. maybe outlining the font would help a little more. nice looking stuff by the way, but i will be patient and wait for the finished product
-
exactly.... nope... tried days to achieve this, but the animation or rotation is hardcoded within GameEx. i wish we could have more control for this, especially for the cabs.... who is interested in the backside of a cab , a 270degree rotation forth and back, would be much nicer IMO. i did make a request allready

Normal Emulator Art/Resources vs. Advanced Settings Resources
u-man replied to Necromancyr's topic in General
yes. they normally appear when you select a game. if you select a game, GameEx shows the infopage for the selected game. at this view you can choose to showup all the stuff you have for that game, i.e. boxart, manuals and so on. if you want i.e. boxart shown instead of snaps or titles (prior selecting a game, while browsing the game list), then you would need to put your boxart into your snapfolder or titlefolder, as we have no choice for what is displaying in the image 1 or 2 fields. they are bounded to snap and titles. if there is really nothing left for the choosen game (no boxart, manuals etc.) then a "no image found" picture can be shown, BUT if you have some art, GameEx will show that art instead of a snap or title... and thats for sure. yes they are a part of the "flow down" and that is exactly my problem which i have with this behaviour. we dont have a option for what is image 1 or 2 field showing (image 1+2 are in the theme-editor). what is shown in these fields, depends on the view you choose with the "change view" button... mostly snap+titles. this is correct but ONLY for the infopage, not for the image 1+2 fields of the theme-editor. these fields represents the state prior selecting a game or while browsing your game list. and last but not least: i did this allready -
Normal Emulator Art/Resources vs. Advanced Settings Resources
u-man replied to Necromancyr's topic in General
yes this is true.... BUT only if NOTHING is found. it does not work for lets say you have Titles and there is no title for a particular game, then GameEx does not grab the "image not found" pict, instead GameEx is looking for ANYTHING it can find regarding the game and shows THAT. ONLY if GameEx founds nothing it will show the "image not found" picture. these will nearly never happen, especially if you have a lot artwork. in my opinion this is contra-productive if it comes to skinning/theme-ing, as GameEx will show stuff you never intended to show at this place, plus you can look at these artwork, boxes, manuals etc. anyway when you select a game. at this point, you have a theme that looks strange and you have a "image not found" thing which becomes nearly obsolete. i tested this several times and come to the conclusion, either use only snap and titles (nothing more) and MAYBE you get your theme looking right and as you intended OR use all the cool stuff artwork, boxes, manuals but dont be disappointed if your theme will look strange from time to time, if there is a manual popping out where a snap should be and so on i would really be happy, if someone can show me, that i am wrong -

good question.... i also found it annoying, that GameEx shows something different, if he can not find a Snap, Title etc. i would appreciate that if a Snap is not found, to show the "image not found" png, instead of a manual, boxart or whatever. apart from this, the problem is that boxart or manuals or whatever, have a different size than a Snap or Title, therefore it can look ugly on the theme. maybe a feature-request -
good news indeed. i have used epsxe all the time, but want to know from you what kind of PS1-emu do you prefer? are there better PS1-emus ? TIA u-man

mmmhh.... we have this thread: there are about 30 models from consoles. if you want them to use in GameEx, they need to be in a ".x" format. name them the same as the logo.png for the consoles and put away the png´s. after doing this, they should show up in GameEx. i like that we have that option, but sadly we have no control about the animation, lighting, etc. as this stuff is coded into GameEx allready. anyway a nice looking feature in GameEx.

great news. thank you Tom & Ben. like the new system-intro-videos via emu-movies.

you need to look into your GameEx folder, there are many additional apps, like the GameExMenuEditor.exe i think it is a registered user feature, but i can be wrong. anyway with this you customize menues. SetupWizard is also in your GameEx folder and basically you need to start from there, to configure everything properly. and welcome to the forum
