ok i found out, how you get the selection bar on the menue. if you put a "zero" in Y-coordinates for the menue, you dont have a selection bar on the menue anymore. that is my experience. if you put positive values in Y-coordinates, you bring back the selection bar. in my case, i am happy for not having a selection bar. because it is differently stretched for every selection you make in the menue and this would look ugly, as i have a somehow "different" selection bar . i just wanted to mention this, maybe some other theme-creators are interested in this

ok it seems we need much more info from you, i.e. what OS you use 32bit, 64bit etc. do you have MAME even installed on your machine? if not, then i recommend you to download one here: http://www.mameui.info/MameUI64.7z this is the official GUI version of MAME. i recommend you this version, because it seems that you are not a experienced user and the "normal" version of MAME is command-line based. for you and us it is easier to configure MAMEUI. once this is working, we can still change to the "normal" official version of MAME which you can get here: http://mamedev.org/release.html do you own roms for MAME? if not, get some free ones here: http://mamedev.org/roms/ once you did all the stuff, you should run MAMEUI in standalone mode and configure it. go to options-->Directories, in the popup menue, choose ROMs and browse to the path where you have put the roms or put the roms in the roms-folder of your MAMEUI installation, there should be one, if you have installed it. after this, you do a refresh, in the menue: View-->Refresh. at this time you should see the roms in your list, doubleclick on them to start a game. once you are at this point, we can go further...

ooops.... off course, you need to do a "update list" after this.... totally forgot to mention this (ashamed).

you can turn off the visualization in the last screen of the setup-editor from game-ex: Tweaks / Performance: Enable Visualizations = NO for the rest of your questions, i hope somebody else can help you.

ah ok.... i see. god sometimes i am so dumb .... LöL

ok maybe i will do this... i am using my own theme and i want to know this, just for curiosity. i want the info mainly for a tutorial regarding the theme-editor i want to make in the near future. i think i have doctored too much on my theme and now it doesnt work more like it is purposed . ps: what is this WIP standing for??

ok i see... if i understand that correctly, you have the SNES setup twice. one is the default by game-ex and one is your own setup, right? and the default one has video-previews and your own setup doesnt, right? maybe that is the culprit, try to get rid off of one of these. so that you only have one SNES-setup. maybe game-ex gets in trouble, if there are two setups for one emu.
-
you need to have the catver.ini, mameinfo.dat and history.dat files, to have all these stuff working. the links in the game-ex setup are little outdated or mostly dead. you can obtain the files here: catver.ini files here: http://www.progettoemma.net/ mameinfo.dat here: http://mameinfo.mameworld.info/ history.dat here: http://www.arcade-history.com/index.php?page=download download the stuff you want, and set the path in your game-ex setup to where you put these files. but i recommend to put it in the DATA folder of your game-ex install.

i see on your last picture posted, that the videopath is empty....(the picture from the game-ex setup) you put the path for the videos to the "stills"-snapshots. try to put them to the videopath, where they belong. maybe you should browse to your videopath for the SNES-emu. try to leave the rom-filter blank / empty, dont think you need this here.

i know you will be wondering or laughing about me, but seriously, how you can achieve the effect, that the selector-bar is on top-menue? i dont have a selection bar on the menue, just in the list.
-
let us know your experience with the selector bar. my experience was ....mmmh... difficult. the selector bar is always stretched to the size of the "unselected" png. so far so nice, BUT the "unselected"-bar-png depends on the font size (and of the list-field width off course) you choose. so if anyone wants to make some accurate selector bar, should know the font-size before, which will be used in the theme, then i would suggest to make a screenshot with the selector bar. take the pixel-info out of the screenshot and with that info in mind, try to make a accurate selector-bar. at least this was my experience, i would like to share with others here. if i am wrong here, i would like to hear other solutions, because my selection-bar has an animated "shadow blinky" from pac-man in it and it was not an easy task, to not see him strangely stretched in the theme.

i did it allready... post #380 in the feature requests... . would like to see the pop-up field in your theme with rounded corners and a nice blue framing .
-
nice one. sometimes simple is better. clean and stylish would be nice if we could have a png for the pop-up-info field, so it would better fit into our themes.

Is MAMEUI32.exe what they call MAME32 nowadays? ..... yes "MAMEUI, formerly MAME32, is the GUI version of MAME. Originally authored in 1997 by Chris Kirmse, it was the first port of MAME™ to the Windows platform. MAMEUI is currently in maintenance mode with no active development taking place. The 64-bit version is still compiled and released when there is no breakage with the core." Either your ROMs are in the wrong place, your MAME.EXE is named incorrectly, or your command line is fubared. totally agree with Adultery. all pathes are the default ones, but the MAME.exe used is not. you should start the setup-wizard and point at least your MAME-path and Rom-path to the right location. 22:46:01.2 7/9/2012: MAME Path is: C:\Emulators\MAME 22:46:01.2 7/9/2012: daphne Path is: C:\Emulators\Daphne 22:46:01.2 7/9/2012: daphne EXE file is: Daphne.exe 22:46:01.2 7/9/2012: Use daphne on. i think that sounds like a good solution. it even doesnt have to be transparent, could be a nice advertice game-ex logo too . just essential that you found a solution, which i think, is not so hard to realize.

dude, are you some kind of a living fabric ?? very nice stuff lately, cant believe how many great new plugs are released in no time. i wish i had that skills

welcome to the game-ex forum and the funny community , your first post remembers me of my reasons why i am here. it is nearly exact the same story . too keep it short, regarding the theme-editor.... sadly, no you cant . in my eyes it is the only fallback for game-ex comparing to some other frontends. i wish i could tell you other things, but sorry bad news. try to suggest a new feature request here: and MAYBE our prayers will be heard

but thats not true for every textfield. all other textfields like list, description, title, time, date.... dont have that behaviour. you can move AND place them everywhere on the screen, even if you place them a little out of the screen, you will see them partially. only the fields "selected line 1+2" and "list num" dissappear completely from the screen, when their borders touches the screen edges. the selected line fields are even worse, because they dissappear even when they are close to the bottom (3 or 4 pixels). i mentioned negative values, just to explain my problem better, as you cant enter negative values manually, only if you use the arrow-keys for placing (click on a coordinate field and use the arrow-keys). something that works for all other textfields, could maybe work for my mentioned fields too.... in my eyes, this is a bug.

i recently found a cool fanmade game of the playstation classic WipeOut in vectrex-style. i havent seen it posted here, so i thought i will share the wealth http://astrofra.com/...ed-well-almost/ it is not a game for your vectrex emu, it just looks like a vectrex-game. i found it still very playfull, enjoyable and worth to mention here hope you like it too and have fun.... u-man ps: did i mention that this game is for free?

so nobody can help me or have a good solution? during the tests, i found out that the fields "list num", "selected line 1+2" completely disappear from screen, if you use negative values for the X coordinates or place them too close to the bottom of the screen (Y coordinates). all other fields dont have such a behaviour, they are clipped of course, but are still shown on the screen. can this be fixed??

Feature & Enhancement Requests

again me , 1) how about the idea to have intro-movies for emu-sections? i.e. you enter MAME and then you could see first a intro-movie, before the page is build. my idea is to have a seamless transition of the intro movie and the page-build. at the moment we can have a animated background, which is a cool feature, but a intro movie which ends seamless into the animated background would be really GREAT. i have some awesome plans with this idea and believe me, i am capable of doing some boner making shit . if someone like the idea, i will post some incredible stuff i do with the 3D-models and Cabs at the moment. 2.) the pop-up info field is as far as i know, the only field which is really on top (in layer terms) of everything, no matter if you have a alpha overlapping it. i would like the idea to have either the option to customize the frame of the field (in form of a .png i.e.) or the option to not having it be the top-foremost layer. what do you think about these ideas?? thank you for your attention... u-man -
maybe i am the only one here, but i dont have a selection bar on this stuff, only in the list menu. basically i dont even know, how you guys achieved this effect so at least for me, the brackets have a sense/meaning. not that i would miss them , as i still have the bigger size if stuff is selected.

"automagically".... that make my day and the big PLUS+ goes to Adultery. will test it tonight.

Hello community, i found a few bugs regarding the theme-editor and game-ex. 1.) it seems that it happen only with video-snaps (i use .mp4). if you choose a game with some info and recommended games and you scroll the way down and then up again, the videosnap of your choosen game is displayed much smaller (i would say in original size, as i use to display it in 200% scale). as you scroll up, it will get back to the intended size at some point (or line ). 2.) if you choose "italic" as a font-style, clipping will occur at least on the weather icon degree font and on the field when you scroll a list and press a letter (i.e. you want to jump from A to P). i used the LCD font in this case. at this point, i want to mention that the default font is used by game-ex for the weather-icon and the list-jump. so it is somehow possible to use at least three different fonts . see attachment. 3.) the "selected 1&2" fields are clipping (and i mean they dissappear completely) much to early if you place them to near on the bottom of the screen. i think it has to do with the fonts you choose and their maximum size you can choose for them. so even if you choose 34 as a size, game-ex will think you have choosen 72. in this case i also used the LCD font, my maximum possible placement, can you see in the attachment. 4.) normally the term "*mature*" as seen in top line of the attached pic, is filtered out and is not shown (which is good to keep it tiny), however the categorys "breakout *mature*" and "casino *mature*" is not filtered. last words: as i am a "little" angry at the moment, i want to say that the theme-editor is better than nothing, but it is "antique" and make my hair turn grey.... basically i am forced to do workarounds and tasks which normally would be a piece of cake but are turned into really nightmares. i am at a point, where i ask myself "what the hack i am doing here? i cant be creative...." some aspects are done in a matter, that there is no meaning and logic behind this, at least i dont see it. mostly the image 1+2 fields are to mention here. sorry for my last words, but i feel much better now....
