Feature & Enhancement Requests
u-man replied to Tom Speirs's topic in FAQs, Guides, & Other Useful Information
basically ANYTHING new for the theme-editor, would be great, but i have hope -
i dont know if its old, but i think it is funny. ever wondered how ViceCity would look on a C64: http://www.de.bgr.co...uf-dem-c64-aus/ and one more for the nostalgia fans: http://www.ebay.de/i...&prg=1011&rk=1 so sweet

yeah.... happy birthday GameEx, i followed you 6 of the 8 years and you are still surprising me a lot. you are a beautiful frontend, no need to watch others.... and maybe we get a lifetime marriage .
-
touche .... my girlfriend would kill me for that, but i think space is not a really problem in the US. here it is .
-
yeah that sounds logical for me. thats also the way i will do it, but why people in the US tend to build super-large-spaceships-on-a-tiny-screen-cabs ? i really wonder about it. 8buttons per player, 4player setup and so on. do not want to offend here, i am just wondering why?
-
i used WinVice for years and now i read about the CCS64 emu. so i wanted to know, why this emu is better than WinVice? what are the advantages? if its really better, i will probably switch to CCS64. as my cab is coming this week, this is the first time thinking about what is playable on a cab, so this is really a good argue you are pointing at. i think this will be a long route configuring the keys for the cab, if it is even possible . what Gamebase64 do you use? i have V9 and i can say that there are not so much tape-based games anymore. maybe i am wrong, but why you try to map your sticks to 4way? does not C64 use 8way plus one button? i dont think you really need this.
-
i like the concept as well, as it looks nice. just for curiosity, i wanted to ask the cab-users here, if they really play titles like FF on the cab? i mean do you use pads or the control-panel of your cab? i hear from my german friends, that nearly no one plays such titles on their cab, because it makes not really fun. thats why i decided to use only 6-buttons per player on my control-panel of the cab and if i need to play some PS1 or PS2 titles, i decide to use the pads. i wonder what you all do?

a very good and professional description , i like it. i tried it the funny way, as the link provided make it very simple to create a template and has 140 arcade bezelz to choose from.

Gamebase Related Questions - Theming and Integration
u-man replied to Necromancyr's topic in General
when it comes to GameBase i think of C64 and when i think of C64 it comes to 21.000 games, which is such a huge amount i wouldnt dare to convert the database . i think it would be easier to ask the guys at gamebase, what way is the best to integrate the gamebase into a cab-friendly-frontend. Necromancyr: I think it is not fair to blame GameEx for not having the feature to use all the extras from Gamebase. please show me a frontend, which does this . MAME has roundabout 3900 unique games and the C64 has 21.000. that is 4x times more games. imagine what a huge task this is, what you ask for GameEx -
yes trial and error. and for the fun: http://www.imagegene...-game/bezel.htm

[PLUGIN] UltraStik plugin 1.22 update to support ServoStik
u-man replied to headkaze's topic in User Projects
headkaze is faster then light. next time, the plugin comes out with a new driver, before the joystick is even released . -
great stuff... than there would only be that option that if MAME dont find a Bezel it should pick one random from the folder. then it gets 150% ... joking, never saw this plug, dont know why its a great and funny gimmick.
-
i think it would be nice to have random bezels in GameEx. It is not to hard to do this i think. Before GameEx starts, it should look in a choosen folder, randomly pick a Bezel and make it the default in GameEx. Additionally it would be even greater, if you choose to use MAME artworkbezels and there is no one for a particular game, that GameEx would choose a random one. This is a harder task i think . Plugin-guys.... i count on you

ill communication what is in your cab? a TFT or CRT? if TFT, how many pixel have this TFT? your resolution so to say (and i dont mean the game or MAME ) tell us your hardware specs of the PC, including grafics-card. in your first picture, i see a custom-made bezel, may be the mistake is in the bezel itself. it is hard to see any border on your display, it is to dark, at least for me. make a copy of your MAME.ini (as a backup) and try exchanging these lines, in the right place: # # WINDOWS VIDEO OPTIONS # video d3d numscreens 1 window 0 maximize 1 keepaspect 1 prescale 1 # # DIRECTDRAW-SPECIFIC OPTIONS # hwstretch 1 # # DIRECT3D-SPECIFIC OPTIONS # d3dversion 9 filter 1 # # PER-WINDOW VIDEO OPTIONS # screen auto aspect auto resolution auto view auto screen0 auto aspect0 auto resolution0 auto view0 auto # # FULL SCREEN OPTIONS # triplebuffer 1 switchres 0 dont delete other lines, just exchange these ones. save the mame.ini in the setup-wizard go to the Advance MAME Settings and put only this line in MAME Options: -readconfig (nothing else here, just this) dont use MAME between the changes of the mame.ini and the setup-wizard. and last, post your bezels from the folders Media/Bezel and Media/BezelV2 of your GameEx Installation folder try this and tell us what happened

sad to hear you had problems with the 64bit driver. i use mine on a 32bit XP no probs at all. i am sure this is not a huge problem, to find 64bit drivers, as there would be more people bitching on the EMS if not so. comparing price and functionality the Top Gun is a Top Gun off course Ultimarc is the best choice, but for that price, i can buy a lot EMS Topguns or two guns and a wheel and so on. you say the EMS is cheaply made... i say its a well working wireless toy, unless you trade the gun with gorilla fingers and pushing it like King Kong, you will have it a long time. its a matter of taste and budget, in both terms the EMS is the winner for me. if price is no problem go for the best of the best and choose the Ultimarc.

then you have not cropped your artwork or i didnt understand something in your description. what aspect ratio are you trying to use in your cab? 4:3 or 16:9 i dont get it really..... i mean if you use a Arcade / TV- Screen in a Universal Cab, then why you will use bezels anyway? a arcade display is low-res and i wouldnt spend a single pixel for bezels and use everyone for the game i never have black borders on my 16:9 27" Full HD TFT PC-Monitor. in most cases the games are fullscreen, with bezel on the left / right sides. in some rare cases, i have tiny bezels on top and bottom and i mean tiny. as i said.... no black borders. if you plan to use a real cab, i recommend you NOT TO USE bezels in any case, only exception would be a TFT-Display in your Cab ( and even then, it depends on your resolution you are intending to use). happy gaming.... u-man

bezels are going into your artwork folder, which is in your Mame Installation folder. if you dont have one, create one. to use MAME game artwork/bezels, you need to do three things: 1. you need to have or to download game artworks/bezels. you can do that easily on Emumovies. Start the Download service utility in your GameEx folder, create a account, setup the pathes in the utility, download artwork for MAME, you are ready to go. Beware that artwork/Bezelz are big and you can reach your download-limit very fast. Depending on how many Roms you have for Mame, it can take days . 2. enable artwork in your mame.ini, which you did allready. 3. in your GameEx Setup-Wizard, in the Advanced Mame Settings, use the "Dont Use Bezel" option. this option is only related to the GameEx Bezel (or your own created Bezel, that you renamed and put in the Media/Bezel or Media/BezelV2 of your GameEx Installation folder). if you use the GameEx Screensaver and want it to use the game Bezels too, put a "NO" in the "Show MAME Bezel" option in the Setup-Wizard Attract / Screensaver section, again this option is only related to the GameEx Bezel (or your own created Bezel, that you renamed and put in the Media/Bezel or Media/BezelV2 of your GameEx Installation folder). keep in mind, that you will miss that icon and info field showing in the screensaver if you use MAME game bezels. so all the Bezel related options in the Setup-Wizard are only related to the GameEx Bezel, if you want to disable the Bezels at all, you need to do this, with your "mame.ini" too. hope it was clear enough, feel free to ask

i use the original artworks for MAME. this is for more arcade feeling and is nice, as you have many different Bezels. usually they have enough resolution to look very nice, even on a Full HDTV. downside is, if MAME doesnt find a artwork, you will have no one. it would be a nice plugin, if there would be something like "if there is no artwork, use a premade standard-bezel or even better make it randomly choose.... that would be nice. a combination of Bezel and HLSL and with a little tweaking, you can achieve good results, close to a real CRT-Monitor
-
you need to crop your artwork. put that lines in you mame.ini and test it: # # CORE ARTWORK OPTIONS # artwork_crop 1 use_backdrops 1 use_overlays 1 use_bezels 1 use_cpanels 1 use_marquees 1 you will keep the aspect ratio from game but it will be zoomed and bezel will fill the entire screen. try it and see if this is what you like.

ok, i tested Xpadder, looks good so far. everything worked as intended. thank you so much guys. here is my latest layout for the CP: and here is a picture of my very soon own cab: 170cm x 70 x 86 a Magnum Universal-Cab, i like that Style and Build the most of all. I choosed the 6-button layout, as i think, there is absolutelly no need for more. Less is better and it looks nicer. The 7" TFT has a 800x480 Display and is sharp enough for CP-Wizard i think it will be a nice CP at all. a real eye-catcher.

LöLz on Nvidia vs. ATI......LMAO
-
nice, nice, nice, do i have any disadvantages other than compiling with the mentioned code, like delayed movements and button switches? is xpadder as fast as "normal" gameplay? thank you so much guys
-
xpadder sounds very interesting: - configure up to 8 sets of controls per profile - set any controller button to switch between sets one-way, two-way or while held - autoopen a profile when the game is detected seems that it can be done, i will write a e-mail to him. so according to you, its at least possible to create a config for a single player and play like i mentioned before and if i want a 2-player setup i need to load and use a second config-file PRIOR starting a game. am i correct? thank you all for the tips EDIT: @nullPointer, AlphaUMi: very nice, for pointing me in the right direction. i think i have a simple solution:it would take a script which executes prior starting a game, asking for a single or second player setup which you confirm by pressing the according buttons and then loads the according config-file. doesnt sound like impossible to do, but maybe i am wrong.
-
@nullPointer: yeah, the vanilla-stuff goes well and there are no errors. only when i try to compile MAME UI. i like MAME UI for fast checking stuff, creating .ini stuff etc. @Draco1962: yes, i use a 64bit OS and i am using the 64bit MAMEUI version allready, BUT i know at least one game, that does not work in MAME UI.... its Carnevil... thats why i try to build a 64bit MAMEUI, in the hope that this error goes away. in the original MAME, Carnevil is working, but has sound that stutters, very annoying and cant get rid of it. i know it has something to do with soundsync, as i did played Carnevil on a MAME Clone (but cant remember which) without these soundproblems, the sound was pitched instead, far better game experience IMO. can i achieve this, with the original MAME build and how? beside this, there is only one MAME UI source on the website and i dont know if this could be the problem for the 64bit OS and the compile. thanks for your answers.

hello guys, i have some questions for a out of the ordinary button config. for better understanding, here is my control panel layout: the black box will be a second monitor, a high resolution tft. now my questions: as a single player, i would like to use the 1 player stick and the second player buttons. this is configurable in MAME, so far so good, but what is if i want to play with someone? is there a way, that MAME reads a config file when i press single player and reads a second config file, when i press 2 players?
