I remember the day this game hit the floor at our local arcade. This many years later I'm not sure the spelling is correct, but Doh-Rah's was our typical arcade hangout, since it was within biking distance. It wasn't huge like Brunswick Billiards, but it was cozy and wasn't lit up like the face of the sun (like Brunswick) If I recall correctly, this was one of the first to push the price above a single quarter (oh and here that's being mentioned in the video as I reply), but everyone was so mesmerized by this game it didn't matter. I never got good at it, not even close, but others had it mastered weeks later and it was pretty cool just watching them play. It represented the next evolutionary step at the time, but by the time people mastered it the replay value suffered. Still, it was damn cool at the time it launched.

It sounds like a paths issue to me. You may already be aware of this, but you can have MAME installed, up and running and just point to the correct paths in here without any need for even utilizing the "Emulator Selection" or downloading features. In the setup wizard: What results do you get if you run "Verify Setup"? Also, click on debugging tools and "zip last run output to desktop" and attach the results to a post here.

I find this thing amazing, reminds me of MAME in the early days, when new developments of all shapes and sizes almost occurred daily. Rare console news in this update, as well as plenty about the popular cores being worked on.

Well, guess what? By all accounts it appears that the NEC Multisync 95 monitors go straight to energy saving mode when they don't detect a signal. Having learned the hard way, I attribute this to the fact they were manufactured in Jan of 2003. While this timeframe was clearly nearing the CRT glory days, it was at the same time already well within the energy conscious days. As soon as I plugged it into a DVR today, video, menu options, everything. So now I feel pretty stupid, but sort of happy at the same time. Staged for the collection bin awaiting the next electronic recycling pickup, I thought, "wait a minute....I was just using one of these a few months ago", albeit very seldom but enough to cycle power every six months.

I've passed on two here locally on Craigslist. One was right down the street, like new 27" non FD Trinitron (I would prefer these that still retain the slight curved screen for consoles) with component for free. Really should have grabbed it, but I'm so short on space that I was still waffling .....and still was when a similar 32" popped up, also down the street. The last 32" I managed to get upstairs in our last house was a bitch, especially going back down two weeks later after the horizontal hold board went out, and was reduced to a single bright white line in the center of the screen. Simply sitting it on the hardwood floor created a dent, I swore I'd never do it again. I'll be happy if the 21" P260 works as good as I think it will. It's ginormous enough!

Well I spent some of the holiday break working on my MiSTer setup and unfortunately after just being out of service for a short while, both NEC displays appear to non-functional. That good olé CRT hum you get after depressing the power button is short, and not followed by any type of dimming of the lights, on screen menu or "video signal not detected" message. I should see something even with nothing plugged into the VGA cable. I'm guessing bad caps, but I don't have time for a project that involved. This is disappointing for two reasons, they had a nice curved screen and also didn't weigh a ton. I plugged up the P260 and it fired right up, and it hasn't been on in about ten years. It's a beast, tipping the scale at nearly 80lbs, so now to build something that will hold it.

Extremely cool I love it that enthusiasts from our generation are saving an important part of our past that represents major stepping stones to games we enjoy today. These historic gems are arguably vastly superior to their modern counterparts simply because they appealed to the natural simplicity they represented combined with the socially irreplaceable atmosphere of what was the 80's arcade experience. I've regrettably thrown away some items over time that I wish I hadn't, but even my NES and SNES went to my oldest cousin, someone who has struggled with extraordinary health issues his entire life. It's sad to think how many arcade machines went into landfill's, but fortunately not all was lost. I'm convinced now more than ever that one day we will look back at the CRT with equal amounts of respect and affection and wonder to ourselves, "why".

Those cores may end up requiring more memory, but that's still unknown at this time. Those cores are all just really nice extras to me, I never got a console system post SNES until the XBOX, so I have no nostalgia there tempting me. I had gone back to PC's after SNES and stayed put until the XBOX bug bit and my wife got me one for Christmas. This turned out to be mostly so she could pound me like a drum in NFL Fever, which had be going back to the PC in short order. To me the MiSTer is really about accuracy of arcade titles, but I've got to admit I may pick up some of those 8bitdo SEGA controllers just to see what all the fuss is about.

They also have an amazing retro themed office.

These guys have really developed something a cut above what's currently available. That's not intended to be an insult to all the other great components at all, this is just next level, IMO.

I know the feeling, I just want a new GPU, but can't get one due to crypto. My HD-7950 held on for a long time, but just can't cut it with modern titles. Finding (and paying 3X retail) a current GPU is just crazy, but I can't even snag one of those before they are gone. I've resorted to watching Craigslist even, but they're gouging prices just as bad. I'd settle for something used just to get by for a while, but 1070 and 1080's are even nuts!
