  1. I would definitely give CFG Magician my hearty recommendation ... but it will depend on what version of MAME you're using. CFG Magician requires that you use data files which match your version of MAME. It looks like the most recent set of CFG Magician data files apply to MAME 0.142. If your MAME version is somewhere between 0.133 and 0.42 I'd definitely recommend using CFG Magician for managing your cfgs.
  2. I can also give a hearty recommendation to Xpadder. It really is a great piece of software. You're correct about the status of Xbox emulation. I would say we're still at least a few years away from an Xbox emulator with great compatibility levels. Part of the issue is that the community dedicated to the development Xbox emulation is exceedingly small.
  3. Yeah originally it was a media center which ran on Xbox, so you're right about the acronym. I switched from Media Browser to XBMC last year and I've never looked back. They're both great programs in their own right. It's definitely worth checking out if only to see what all the hub bub is about. It's a fairly light weight installation, and has a large support community. It's also available on a live disc, so there's no huge commitment if you decide it's just not for you.
  4. Funny you should mention it! I'm running a Galaxy Tab 2 (7.0). So far XBMC seems to be running great on it. I just installed last night, but I haven't run into any issues. I'm actually pretty amazed at just how much of the desktop functionality they've managed to pack into the android version. I totally hear you about the hesitance to upgrade the desktop version. I'm not too much of an early adopter, particularly for apps that I've spent a lot of time configuring already. There's certainly some changes I'm looking forward to in Frodo though!
  5. So I know we've got a good handful of XBMC users around here. On Friday the XBMC released the stable version of their Frodo release (XBMC 12.0). Has anyone already made the jump? I haven't taken the plunge quite yet, but I'm curious to hear thoughts from those that have. I'll undoubtedly be updating my HTPC at some point in the near future. Most importantly are there any issues with the GameEx plug-in? (Last I heard it was working fine with the Frodo Beta releases, but I figured it bears asking) In the mean time I went ahead and installed the Android edition on my tablet, which seems pretty great.
  6. Glad you got it sorted out eatfreshsub! Mind if I take the liberty of marking this one as resolved?
  7. Congratulations to our Member of the Month for January 2013 ... DazzleHP! Dazzle needs no introduction around here, as his contributions speak for themselves. Interested in custom menus? Dazzle has you covered. He's always willing to jump in and lend a hand. If you've never perused his YouTube channel you should seriously check it out! And now he's poised to kick off his brand new blog right here on our hallowed forums (:hint: :hint: ). Please join me in congratulating our very own shmupperfromhell, DazzleHP! Well done buddy. Thanks for all you do!
  8. Also remember that for most of the popular 4p games, the 2p versions are considered to be clones where the 4p version is considered to be the parent ROM. For this reason it's not so much a GameEx issue as it is a MAME thing. You might be able to circumvent this if you enter the name of the 2p clone ROM in the 'Don't Filter these ROMs' field on the MAME Settings screen in the Setup Wizard.
  9. Hi pHreaksYcle! Welcome! As Draco mentioned, GameEx doesn’t include any games whatsoever. It’s completely ‘BYOG’ if you will. What it does include out of the box is some media to go with your games (i.e. some videos and snaps). This serves more as a demo of what GameEx should look like when properly configured. The support section on GameEx product site is a great place to get started and begin to learn the ropes of using GameEx. The purpose of the forum (among other things) is so that we might assist users with specific issues they may encounter along the way. There are some really good tutorials featured on the forums, but for the most part we’re here to bail you out if you run into problems. Here’s a brief primer on our community: … At least that’s the way I remember it going down. If or when you have a moment, please post your GameEx.ini as it will give us some guidance as to your current configuration, and any suggestions we make at that point will be better tailored to your specific setup. When you post a new thread, the directions for locating the proper troubleshooting information are linked from the header in the part that says, “Please refer to this link for additional information.” That link will take you to the How to Ask for Help thread which is a fantastic place to start with requests for troubleshooting assistance. Good luck man! We look forward to seeing you around. Take a look at the Support section of the GameEx product site to see if that makes sense (The Setup Wizard also has help text for nearly every field, so that should also provide some insight). If you still find yourself in a rough patch, please report back and (hopefully) we can set you down the right path.
  10. This is an excellent call (IMO). In doing so you also ditch a bunch of bad dumps, alternate dumps, etc. GoodSets were fantastic in their time, and even still serve as a good archival tool consisting of 'all known dumps', but in terms of playable sets they really are a bit antiquated at this point (IMO once again).
  11. You hit the nail on the head my friend (on both counts - Controls and Instructions). There is one catch though. You can have multiple images matching your ROM names or you can specify a single image for the entire emulator, but you can't have it both ways. In other words you can't currently specify a default fall back image.
  12. Consider it done my good man! Also if you want to do this in the future you can simply click edit on your first post of the thread, then from there click Use Full Editor. You can edit the title of the thread using the Full Editor (but only when you edit the first post of the thread).
  13. I notice that there's also a free Lite version. Do you know if that version includes any sort of screen recording functionality Krak? (Sorry, I couldn't locate a comparison of features for each version) Edit: Nevermind; I'm an idiot. The product page for Action! links to the completely separate product page for Splash Lite which I mistook for a free Lite version of Action. So yeah, no free version of Action!, and please disregard the above.
  14. Man, in terms of uninstalling Project64, I'm straight up out of ideas. So let's back up a few steps here. Are the graphical issues you're experiencing strictly related to Goldeneye? (I noticed that those were the only images you posted) Project64 has some issues running Goldeneye, notably the whole 'black-sky' effect you're seeing in the first level (at least 1.6 does which is basically all I can vouch for in terms of Project64). Have you tried running it through 1964? Goldeneye runs more or less flawlessly through 1964. For reference, this is an excellent guide detailing recommended emulators and settings for N64 games. I basically use it as my N64 emulation gospel. It's worth a read through if you've never looked at it before.
  15. Hi allhonda! DazzleHP's advice is excellent, but I would recommend one additional step. It appears that you've got MAME setup as a 'standard' emulator in GameEx (in other words you used the following screen(s) to setup MAME in the Setup Wizard). There's nothing inherently wrong with that, but you might find it much easier to use the dedicated MAME section within the Setup Wizard. GameEx has a lot of functionality devoted specifically to MAME, but you must set it up through the MAME section to get the most out of it. So to recap, please check the following Verify that your ROM set matches your version of MAMEAttempt to verify that MAME is running OK outside of GameExSetup MAME through the dedicated section in the Setup WizardRemember to rebuild your MAME list in GameEx anytime you make a change to your MAME settings (that option should appear at the bottom of your game list in GameEx).Good luck allhonda! Feel free to let us know how this is going for you.
  16. Do the following steps: Open your start menuType Create a restore point into the search boxClick the corresponding search resultClick the Create buttonWait for that to finishOpen your start menu againType cmd into the search boxRight click cmd.exe and click Run as Administrator (At least I'm pretty sure you need to do this since it will be removing items from the Registry)Paste the following command at the command prompt (you can't use ctrl+v you need to right click and select Paste):C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msiexec.exe /x {9559F7CA-5E34-4237-A2D9-D856464AD727}Wait for that to completeNow your Project64 registry settings should all be gone (hopefully). At this point you can simply remove the Project64 folder, or theoretically you can run it again and have a fresh start. If anything goes wrong, that restore point should be able to restore your registry back to its prior state. Give a holler if you need or want a refresher on reverting to a prior restore point. Good luck man!
  17. Wow Zallax, that is absolutely awesome! Fantastic job!
  18. Ah, poor mama. Has she thought about trying public transportation? That might help. God speed mama! ... I kid, I kid! Just a little humor there ... very little. ...sorry Any hoo, common practice around here is that we request to take a look at your GameEx config and your GameEx log after having experienced the issue you describe. Here's a thread explaining how to get at that information. That will help our troubleshooting team make a better assessment of what's happening. Thanks man!
  19. Whoa, yeah no need to get too drastic there! Sorry I hadn't had a chance to check this thread for a little while. Here's what that uninstall Project64 item in the start menu points at: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\msiexec.exe /x {9559F7CA-5E34-4237-A2D9-D856464AD727} Theoretically you could run that command from the command line and have it work (but this assumes that our operating systems are similar or the same - I'm running Win7 x64). At first I wasn't sure if that registry key would be the same, but this site seems to provide evidence that it is. It's worth a shot man, but only if our operating systems are pretty much the same.
  20. D'oh! The uninstall process for Project64 should appear in your start menu. Like so: Good luck man! Hopefully that works out for you.
  21. Sorry retrogamer32, I discovered that information while I was away from my emulation rig. Now that I've had a chance to have a look around my own Project64 files, my installation also doesn't have that directory ... and the help documentation is dated April 1st 2005. So yeah, that information is a bit out of date to say the least. Even if you were able to locate those files, I'm not sure I'd recommend running them being as the Project64 registry settings from 2005 are almost certainly not the same settings in use today. Sorry man! I'll keep looking around to see what I can find.
  22. Project64 Plugin settings are stored in the Windows registry, so I'm afraid simply removing Project64 won't get rid of those bunk settings. (That's also why if you use the same plugin for different emulators - say 1964 - your settings will actually carry over to the other emulator too). The following information is taken directly from the Project64 1.6 help documentation (here's an installation, Project64 does not have an install program. It thus logically also doesn't have an uninstall program (there is no entry in Windows Add/Remove programs). The authors preferred a simple 'hands on' approach and we hope you will find it satisfying to be in control of your own system. The following instructions will completely remove all traces of Project64 from your system, in case you ever wish to do this (although they shouldn't do any harm if not removed). You may wish to read backing up before you begin. Project64 does not scatter files around your system. The only files it creates are those in its own folder, and the folders you define - there are no files added to your system folders or ROM folders, for example. You will find the following files the \Uninstall folder of your Project64 folder. remove Project64 application settings.regremove Project64 plugins settings.regremove all Project64 settings.regThe last files is the one you want to run to get rid of all the registry settings of Project64. Note than any entries made by 3rd party plugins will not be removed by these files - please consult relevant plugin documentation. Note that these files do NOT delete your Project64 folder on your hard drive, ONLY the Project64 registry entries. You can delete your Project64 folder with your delete key. The .reg files have been tested and should pose no risk to your system but backing up your Windows registry is general good practice. I and the Project64 team are not responsible for any harm that results from your use or incorrect use of these files. Instructions to completely uninstall Project64: Exit Project64 Backup anything you want saved Double click "remove all Project64 settings.reg" You will be asked "Are you sure you want to add the information in ... to the registry?" You must answer "Yes" You will be told "Information in ... has been successfully entered into the registry." Remove any 3rd party plugins you installed as per their instructions Remove any shortcuts you have to Project64 (Start menu etc.) Delete your root Project64 folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\pj64) and you're done. You may need to restart your system for the file associations to clear (if you were using Shell Integration) A re-installation of Project64 is just the same as an uninstallation, except that you carry out a standard Install afterwards. Maybe the above can help to get you back on the right track. Good luck man!
  23. I guess that’s the first question. Are you already using your Mag-Stik in 4-Way mode? If not, that will likely be the source of your issue. Using an 8-Way joystick for 4-Way games is always going to feel slightly (or majorly) off, due to the fact that you need to be hitting the appropriate contacts in the exact cardinal directions in order to register for 4 Way games such as Pac-Man. If you're already utilizing 4-Way mode, is this just a matter of the wrong feel somehow? I was going to suggest taking a look at the ServoStik, but that may be dependent upon if you’re already using 4-Way mode with your Mag-Stik. Being that both it and the ServoStik are Ultimarc products there may or may not be a distinguishable difference in the way that they feel during 4 Way operation (I certainly can’t speak from experience though). If I were starting a cabinet build today, there would be no question for me that those ServoStiks would be the joysticks going in. Suzo-Happ is always another good option if you’re looking to go a different direction though. In point of fact, I just stumbled upon this which may be just the ticket. Replacement Pac-Man Joystick for Original Arcade Game It all depends on your use-case, and what you’re trying to accomplish.
  24. I think he's been having some issues with the -loadbin flag. To wit: Having said that -loadbin is a perfectly valid option, and chadisgr8's solution for multi-bin games seems like a winner under that circumstance. The appropriate command under those circumstances should be something to the effect of: epsxe.exe -nogui -loadbin "[rompath]\[romfile]"If GameEx seems to be overwriting your command line settings, there may be an issue with your cached data. Under that circumstance you may want to delete all files with cache in the file name from your \gameex\DATA\ path. All those files will be rebuilt when you start GameEx. That may (or may not) address the issue of the 'phantom' command line settings. Once again you might consider giving pSX a try. It's sooo much easier to use. You may decide to never go back!
  25. Thanks for rapidly identifying and assembling a solution for the reported issues RageOn. Great job!
