[NEWS] Please welcome our newest Elite member Hansolo77
nullPointer replied to Draco1962's topic in General
Congratulations Han! You're the newest Elite Member who's been in our family almost longer than all of us. As an elder statesman of the GameEx community this has been a long time coming my friend! Thanks for being a true stalwart of our little family, and setting an example for all the young'uns to live up to. After all you've been through I'm relatively convinced that you're indestructible. That alone warrants the title of elite. Thanks for all you do! -
[RESOLVED] Help on error sound when exiting Project64 1.6 Emu for GameEx
nullPointer replied to JCGamer's topic in General
Awesome JCGamer! Well done man. It's funny because I was just now this second writing a suggestion to try [Mapping Off] Exit (Alt+F4). Good stuff. I wouldn't have guessed that the Show Desktop setting would have had an impact, but stranger things have happened. Glad you got it figured out. -
[RESOLVED] Help on error sound when exiting Project64 1.6 Emu for GameEx
nullPointer replied to JCGamer's topic in General
The instructions for accessing runitgame.bat are in the How to Ask For Help Thread One way to troubleshoot a problem is to add the word "Pause" at the end of the Runitgame.bat file. When Windows asks "Do you want to save the changes..." Click on "Save". Next, double click on the "Run Last Game" Icon in the Start Menu. This will send the commands again, but the command window will remain open. It may show an error that will help you to understand what is wrong. If you get this error: 'Emulator name.exe' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. It means that either you have the incorrect name specified for your Emulator.exe, or your working path is incorrect. If it gives an error that you don't understand, please let us know that you tried this method, and let us know what the error is.Section A. describes how to post your runitgame.bat, whereas Section B. describes how to troubleshoot using runitgame.bat. I would definitely recommend giving option B a run through to see what happens. So there's also an error message? What does the error message say (if anything)? -
[RESOLVED] Help on error sound when exiting Project64 1.6 Emu for GameEx
nullPointer replied to JCGamer's topic in General
Nah, GameEx should get along just fine with Project64 1.6. It sounds like Project64 doesn't like the way it's being shut down. I'm closing Project64 in the same way that you are [Mapping Off] Exit (Process Close), so I'm relatively sure it's possible to have this running cleanly. I'm wondering is there's some sort of warning that needs to be suppressed within Project64? Does this happen with all ROMs or just for some? Would you mind posting your runitgame.bat after having experienced this error? Thanks JCGamer -
Hi abjohnson, Upgrading MAME cna help this sort of problem under some circumstances, but in many cases it can make it worse. MAME isn't like your run of the mill emulator in which any old ROM is going to work. The version of MAME you're running must match the version of the ROMs you're using. That's because when they update MAME, they occasionally make updates to the entire ROM set as well. I'd recommend learning the ropes of using ROM auditing software, which will help you determine that your ROM set and your version of MAME are in sync. For newish users I tend to recommend ROMCenter. It’s a great tool to have in your arsenal. Here are a couple of tutorials to help get you started with ROMCenter: Romcenter 3 tutorial ROMCenter Wiki Another great tool to be aware of is the venerable ClrMamePro. ClrMamePro is not quite as user friendly as ROMCenter, but it’s got a lot more history behind it, and often times you’ll see the grizzled old emulation veterans using CMP over ROMCenter. Here’s the complete guide to using ClrMamePro I often see people who are new to the world of emulation jump right into MAME and get a bit discouraged. Don't get discouraged! MAME takes a bit more coddling than most emulators, but the results are highly worth it. Good luck man.

Please keep Hattiesburg, Mississippi in your thoughts today
nullPointer replied to Draco1962's topic in Social Club
I'm happy to hear that you and your family are safe and sound thurmansevolution. It's been quite a few years since I lived in tornado country, but I definitely know how intense it can be to have a tornado in the area. My thoughts and prayers are still with the residents of your fair city, but I'm relived to hear that you're doing alright. Keep on truckin' man! -
Regarding Calibre plugins, I will say that the Manage Series plugin is an absolute winner. Many of the books I read take place in a series, so being able to easily and quickly manage series configuration within Calibre is awesome. I'm trying out a couple of the other meta-data scrapers (specifically FictionDB and Goodreads), but it seems like most of the good hits come from Amazon and Google anyway (or else the others are close duplicates). So for now, it looks like it's a matter of digging into the books themselves to pull (or verify) accurate information, bibliography style.
-
So yeah, this is a question that's oddly specific to Calibre. In point of fact it might be a question more well suited to the Calibre forums, but I don't have an account over there, and why would I start a discourse with a bunch of filthy strangers, when I can talk to my friends right here? (Let the accusations of xenophobia begin) So the creation of this forum inspired me to open up my Calibre library and really start whipping the metadata into shape for all my e-books. So the default metadata plugins for Calibre are scrapers for Amazon and Google. The trouble is that the metadata scraped from the default plugins is a bit of a hot mess. What's more is that in several cases I'm unable to find the specific version of the book I'm looking for (i.e. it pulls a different publisher, ISBN, date of publication, etc.). I'm rather firmly of the opinion that metadata is only as useful as it is accurate, so if the information I'm pulling is wrong, I'm not so sure it's worth the endeavor. So I'm asking you guys, are there any Calibre metadata plugins you can recommend? Does anyone have special methods or techniques they employ to polish up the metadata for their e-book collections? Am I being too demanding of my metadata? (answer: probably)

Congratulations Ray! Gotta tell ya I'm pretty pumped about your staff promotion! This means that I'm not the freshman on staff any more! Hooray! So we need to talk about the standard hazing rituals for new initiates ... In all honesty you've truly earned your place on staff, and we're absolutely stoked to have you on the team. You've been a key part of our community from practically your very first post. As Tom pointed out, a lot of us still proudly sport out very own KRC custom signature banners. Thanks for all you've done for our community and here's to all you'll accomplish in the future. Time for a round of virtual shots! Now about those baseboards ... they're not going to clean themselves you know ... here's your toothbrush. Congrats again man.

The GoodName, NoIntro, and TOSEC fields refer to ROM naming conventions as specified by those respective groups. Those fields in the .db3 database(s) are used to match your ROMs to the correct information in the database (I suppose you could think of it as a foreign key to the associated ROM naming convention). I'm going out on a limb, but if you were to incorporate those fields into a scraper you would need to cross reference the data scraped from gamesdb with DAT files from those groups. You can download any of the DATs corresponding with the associated group from the following locations: No-Intro TOSEC GoodTools DATs are a bit more scattered, but they're also fairly antiquated at this point: GoodTools

Just as a clarification the Virtual Jaguar GIT repository can be found here. You can also follow the details to the project on their forum over at ngemu.

Any info on N64 High Hires Texture Games for GameEx
nullPointer replied to JCGamer's topic in General
Hi JCGamer What happens if you simply set Show Desktop to True? Remember that the help text of the Show Desktop setting actually advises against using it under most circumstances I know you're trying to avoid any unwanted popup windows while the game is loading, but if that's the only way it will load correctly I'm afraid you may be stuck with it. Good luck man, hopefully we can get you up and running. -
Hi mviars Based on the content of your error message, it appears that it could be related to a couple of factors. One bit of sound advice seems to be to download the installer and re-install GameEx over the top of your current installation as seen in this troubleshooting thread. It might also be related to the in-game exit key as seen in this thread, or attract mode as seen here. Sorry for the shotgun approach. It really does seem like this error could be related to a number of factors. I'd try the re-install first and see if that clears up the issue. Good luck, and let us know how this is going for you. Edit: to pull the above results I searched the forums using the text of your error message: Direct2D.Direct2d.Device.BeginScene(Boolean Clear, Color ClearColour)

Nice work wayward! Glad you were able to figure it out. Happy gaming!

Hi Evilforces, Sorry you're still having this issue. I'm still wondering whether it has something to do with the following block of text in your log: This may or may not be the cause of your issue, but it's never good to have errors like this in your log. It might be worth seeing if you can get that error resolved, as it may be contributing to your issue.

Glad you got it sorted out zeenon. Happy gaming!

Dolphin emulator games not appearing in last or most played
nullPointer replied to cquealy's topic in General
Hi cquealy In order to properly address this issue, it would be helpful to take a look at your emulator config (and possibly your GameEx.ini). You know, that old drill. Here's a quick refresher on how to do that if you're a little rusty. In the meantime, you might also try delete all files under the \gameex\data\ path with the word cache in the file name or extension and restart GameEx to see if this resolves the problem. -
What happens when you do the following: Start up a game with Fusion while in GameEx Exit Fusion and GameEx Go to Start Menu > Program Files > GameEx > Utilities> Run Last GameDo you experience the same problematic controller issues? This will help to determine whether the problem is with the emulator or with GameEx. Have you tried any alternate button mapping software? That may be just the ticket if nothing else works. Many of us here use Xpadder, but Joy2Key is another option as is PinnacleProfiler. Even GameEx supports button mapping through Advanced Emulator Cofigs (Oddly enough I've never used the native GameEx button mapping functionality as I've been an Xpadder user for a long time). It would certainly be worth a shot!

I'm guessing that it's likely an issue with your map file. You'll want to be sure that the names of your ROMs match the names in the map file exactly. You'll also want to be sure that the map file contains only the ROMs you have, and none that you don't. In other words if you only have 5 ROMs you'll want to be sure that your map file contains 5 (and only 5) entries. There are numerous map creation / editing tools available, but being that this is a very small number of ROMs I'd probably just edit the map file using a text editor. fRequEnCy's Map Files Adultery's Map File Maker Tempest's Map File Magician As a last word of advice, you'll probably want to back up the default Nebula map file before making any edits (always good to have a recovery plan in the event of an error ). Good luck man, let us know if this helps out.

Happy Birthday u-man! I hope it's mind blowingly epic! You-da-man!

Awesome! Thanks for the heads up KRC! Maybe playable Jaguar emulation isn't such a pipe dream after all! Gonna have to check this out.

Hi trippwire! It sounds like your question is more directed towards how to migrate one GameEx installation to another computer? If that's the case you would simply copy your GameEx directory to the second computer, then install GameEx over the top. In this way your MAME list will 'follow' your GameEx installation along with the rest of your settings (assuming you migrate your ROMs as well). Good luck man, let us know if this is the information you're looking for.
-
Providing the requested information will help us provide what is hopefully a simple response. Otherwise we start taking shots in the dark or go with a shotgun approach in which we throw out a bunch of potential solutions. Either way will likely fail to do much good for you. Once we have a look at your log and GameEx.ini we can suggest some targeted approaches. Thanks man!

Eww ... No anything but the Old Mill. I'll have you know that my fishing beer of choice won a Worlds Fair Blue Ribbon in 1893 ... back when beer was made with barley, hops, and formaldehyde the way God intended. No sir - not like this hoity-toity stuff you see out there these days. I mean, they've summed it up better than I ever could: Beer cans tell no lies my friend.
