  1. All I ever seem to catch when I go fishing is a buzz. You can thank my friends in Milwaukee for that. ... And this ladies and gentlemen is what happens around here when threads get unlocked for the purpose of thoughtful discussion.
  2. Cool, thanks for the share pforkp! Welcome to the GameEx forums! I guessing this script will come in handy for quite a few Commodore64 enthusiasts. It also never hurts to spread the word on Cygwin! Looks to me like this would work in any BASH shell (gotta love redundancy) so I'm guessing it would already be good to go for most Linux distributions. Well done!
  3. Awesome! I'm glad to hear you got it sorted out JCGamer. Could have been a hiccup with the ini, or maybe something was inadvertently altered in your settings at some point. All's well that ends well. Happy gaming!
  4. Yeah, you'll want to fix this if you haven't already: It's on the MAME Settings screen. Good luck man!
  5. Hi JCGamer! It might be more informative to take a look at your GameEx.ini, but I can say definitively that this doesn't look right: Double check your MAME settings and make sure you're pointed at the correct MAME executable.
  6. I think a day is well within reasonable customer expectations. As a point of comparison, it took 15 days for my Microsoft TechNet subscription to process, and that's $200 USD per year. A co-worker and friend recently signed up for an IEEE membership which took a full month to process through our corporate affiliate program. So Tom you're already well ahead of Microsoft and IEEE! OTOH I really do understand that it can be a bit unnerving when you purchase goods and/or services from vendors that are unknown to you. I get that way every time I buy something from eBay (and even more so when I sell something on eBay). There's always a lingering fear in your mind that you might get ripped off. So taffyfatbloke, please let me assure you that you're in good hands with Tom. I think I speak for all of us here when I say that you won't find a more honest, upstanding, business person than Tom. He truly believes in GameEx and offers incredible support to his customers. I'm hoping once you get everything up and running that we see you around the forums! So most importantly Tom ... are we talking like literally, "I'ma grab my tackle box, pole, and fishin' hat to literally go fishing," or is this more of a, "I'ma hang up my Gone Fishin' sign on the front door," kinda thing?
  7. Glad you sussed it KRC! Some of that stuff can get pretty ugly depending upon how deep it goes.
  8. Are there any other symptoms? Like the homepage in your browser suddenly changing, or being redirected to other sites while browsing? Will your browser let you navigate here for instance? http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/malwarebytes_free/ Has it tried to prompt you to buy anything?
  9. Hi zeenon! I believe this is a two part question. As I read it, the first question you have is, “Can I configure PC games as an emulator in the setup wizard?” You certainly can, and several users have had great success with this. The following steps cover some of the highlights for configuring PC games as an emulator in GameEx Create a directory containing shortcuts to you PC games. These shortcuts will be used to launch your PC games, and should be tested prior to GameEx integration. Create a new emulator slot in the setup wizard. Set your emulator path to be the directory containing your shorcuts Set your ROM path to to be the directory containing your shortcuts Your emulator command can be “[ROMFILE]” Your ROM filter should be set to *.lnk All artwork can be configured to your liking, just make sure the names of the artwork matches the names of your shortcut files. For the most part the above steps should set you on the right path. Please note that some games use a launcher (i.e. there’s some sort of intermediate screen that appears before the game itself is fully launched. Arkham Asylum is one that comes to mind). This can necessitate some additional steps, but for now let’s keep it simple and follow the above steps. We can cross that bridge if we need to. Your second question as I see it is, “Can I exercise greater control over where PC games appear in my game lists?” The answer to this is also a resounding Yes. The above steps will get your PC games to appear under emulated games. If you find that to be unsatisfactory however, you can configure the GameEx menus ‘till your heart’s content using the Custom Menus utility. DazzleHP (our current Member of the Month) has written a fantastic introductory guide to using custom menus. That would be an excellent starting point if you wish to further configure you menus in GameEx. Good luck zeenon, and Happy Gaming! Edit: Dazzle beat me to it! Between his suggestions and mine you should be in a good spot with this. Let us know how it's going for you.
  10. Oooh ... Sorry man I misunderstood. I though the issue was that you were getting a 'pop-up- window as the game was loading. I didn't realize that it wasn't working at all. Sorry guy, you've happened to catch me at a time when I'm putting in a lot of late night hours for my job. Afraid I don't have much time at the moment for anything other than these hit-and-run forum posts. I may have some extra time this weekend. In the meantime, I'll look into the issue. If you have a moment, would you mind uploading your emulator config for Project64? That may shed some light, but I'm pretty sure the emulator is the problem here. Also what video card and OS (32 bit or 64 bit) are you running?
  11. So what happens when you click Run Last Game? Does the window you describe pop up momentarily?
  12. Hi rommel1940, Tanks for posting! Sorry, um ... I couldn't resist there ... but seriously ... nazis are bad, mm-kay. So welcome to the GameEx forums! In order that we might efficiently address your issue I would ask that you post a copy of your GameEx.ini and a copy of your log immediately after having experienced your error. Here are the instructions on how to access that information. In the meantime, what version of MAME are you using? Are you running 'vanilla MAME' or something like MameUI? Have you verified that your ROM set matches your version of MAME? That information will help us to determine the nature of your problem. Thanks man!
  13. Hi JCGamer What emulator (and what version of the emulator) is this occurring with? I'm taking a wild guess that it's probably Project64, but it would still help to know what version we're talking about. I may ask to see the emulator config you're using for this one, but let's talk about the emulator first. It sounds like this may be more of an emulator issue than a GameEx issue. Try this: Run one of the games through GameEx and exit GameExGo to Start Menu > All Programs > GameEx > Utilities > Run Last GameCan you duplicate the issue with the above steps? This will likely mean that the problem is with the emulator itself. Even then, we may still be able to do something to address the issue, but all the same, the first thing we need to talk about is which emulator and version you're using. Thanks man!
  14. No worries man! More a friendly reminder than anything. Like I said it's awesome that you're clearly researching your issues quite a bit before posting. Happy gaming!
  15. Hi JCGamer, In the Setup Wizard you'll find the Verify ROMs setting on the MAME Settings screen under the Advanced MAME Settings heading. Hey by the by, feel free to start a new thread for your questions if you like. We're not one of those forums that gets all uptight about saying, "You have to search every corner of the forum prior to asking any question," or anything. Obviously it's appreciated that you're clearly putting in your homework, but at the same time we don't want too many necro threads rising from their graves either. Thanks man!
  16. Hi JCGamer! Would you mind posting a copy of your emulator config for ZSNES, and a copy of your log after having experienced this error? Here's a brief tutorial regarding how to access that information. While it may appear to be the same issue reported by the OP (clear back in 2007!), there's a good chance that this may be a different problem. The information provided in those files will give our troubleshooters a much better indication of what's going on with your setup. Thank you!
  17. It does make sense. This will be a two step process. First you'll need to configure inputs individually within each emulator you're using in GamEx (or at least the ones you're using with Xpadder). Then you'll configure GameEx to launch the appropriate Xpadder profile when it launches the associated emulator. So let's say I've made an Xpadder profile for NES. In the Xpadder profile I've mapped the Start button to the V key on the keyboard for example. I'd want to open up Nestopia (my preferred NES emulator) and find the input configuration screen (in this case it would be Options > Input...). On the input mapping screen within the emulator I would then set the Start button as the V key. This part is pretty straight forward, but naturally will vary quite a bit form one emulator to the next.Protip: Xpadder works brilliantly for digital input, but doesn't work so well for analog input. If you need to map an analog input (like the N64 analog stick for example), you'll likely want to map the analog input directly within the emulator and configure Xpadder to let the analog input to 'pass through' (i.e. the analog input will not be mapped in Xpadder at all). Once you've got the emulator setup, you'll want to test that everything is working as expected outside of GameEx. So start up your Xpadder profile, then start up the emulator and fire up the game of your choice. Once you get the frontend involved things get more complicated, so you want to make sure everything is working before you introduce the frontend. Everything is working! So now we need to have GameEx launch the Xpadder profile when it launches the emulator. I'm going to give my full endorsement to Adultery's Xpadder plugin for this task. It's going to take the guesswork out of this step, and it's already part of your GameEx installation. Go to Start Menu > All Programs > GameEx > Configuration > Plugin Manager. In the Plugin Manager click the checkbox next to the Xpadder plugin to enable it, and press the Configure button to get it setup. Follow the configuration instructions in the link above, and please feel free to report back if you have any questions about the plugin.Good luck pHreaksYcle!
  18. I'm extremely sorry to hear that Felix. I don't know you in person, but I can tell from collaborating with you on SwitchDisc that you're someone with a fine eye for detail and a high level of dedication. I'm rather convinced that in time you'll be able to look back and know that this is your employers loss. Keep at it man, and don't let the bastards get you down. Thanks for all the work you've put into testing SwitchDisc, and please know you've been a very valuable asset. I haven't been able to put much time into the project lately either. I'm in something of a battle to keep the position I have at my job. I'm hoping I can win that battle, but it's meant a lot of travel and putting in 60 or more hours per week. Please keep us posted on how things are going for you. One of the aspects I've always appreciated about our community is exactly that. We're more than just an emulation forum, we're a community, and we've got each others back through good times and bad. We're kinda like Cheers that way. Prayers to you and yours man.
  19. Hey just a quick word on Zinc. It's rather notoriously difficult to setup, and I believe all of the ZN1, ZN2 and System 11 games are now emulated directly in MAME. So if you have a relatively modern system and your MAME version is somewhat recent you might consider that. There are two solutions here. One is relatively easy, and one has a bit of a learning curve (but is ultimately more rewarding once configured) For 'standard' emulators there's a field in the setup wizard where you can specify the path for controller image(s). It's the Controls Path field on the Advanced Emulator Setup screen. You can so this one of two ways. You can have a directory full of controller images which match your ROM names. Or you can specify a single image which will display for all games for that emulator (in this case you need to specify the full directory path and file name). If you're looking for a little 'artistic inspiration' for your controller images a few of our members have put together some controller image kits to help you get started. Here's one that I put together a while back, and here's a super-cool one that Adultery made as part of his MegaMAME theme. We've got a ton of super-creative people around here, so it's entirely possible you can turn up other similar projects if you do some digging. Both of the kits I mentioned feature layers that you can move, modify, and replace using either GIMP or Photoshop. For your MAME games, I'd recommend using CPWizard for displaying controls. CPWizard is a really neat utility written by our very own headkaze designed to dynamically display the control layout for the currently loaded MAME game. That means you don't need to create a ton of controller images, as CPWizard will generate the appropriate image(s) on the fly. It does take a bit of configuration, but once you've got the pieces in place it's super slick. Here's a brief tutorial that might help you get started using the tool. Once you get CPWizard setup, you'll notice that it has native integration with GameEx. On the MAME Settings screen (near the bottom of the screen) you'll see various fields related to CPWizard integration.Good luck with all of this mviars! Let us know how it's working out!
  20. Up above Tom suggested setting Remove Duplicates to Auto in your MAME settings. It looks like you've still got it set to Yes. That's probably worth a shot. Other than that, Tom did mention it would be fixed for the next release. It might be something that requires waiting for the bug fix. Hopefully that Auto setting puts you on the right track though.
  21. I'd try Tom's suggestion of viewing the available memory while GameEx is running. Try this: Start GameEx in a WindowOpen up the Windows Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc)Open up the Performance tabView the Physical Memory settingsFor bonus points you can go further down this rabbit hole: From the Performance tab, open up the Resource Monitor (if it's available on your system)View the Memory section to see whether there are running processes taking up large amounts of memoryYou may also want to take a look at the Windows Event viewer to see whether there are any critical events and/or warnings that correlate with the times you experience this decreased performance. Open the start menuType Event Viewer into the search boxCheck for any unusual eventsLastly, do you have any codec packs installed on your machine? How's your video playback for video snaps and the like?
  22. Tom has mentioned a couple of times that he has a lot more hosting available on gameex.com than he does on the forums. Likewise Adultery has mentioned a couple of times that he's happy to host files on hfc-essentials. Lastly there's always the shared FTP. Hmm ... I wonder if we could talk to Tom about setting up an anonymous partition within the shared FTP. For instance, I can link to a file on the shared FTP, but it will prompt me for login credentials. A&F Software.png Anonymous FTP might be one solution to this as it would allow anonymous downloads (there may of course be hidden pitfalls I'm not seeing).
  23. Hi mviars, and welcome to the GameEx forums! Sorry your post has gone unaddressed thus far. I'll chip in with my two cents and see where that gets us. I believe that in order to create a dedicated menu item for Zinc, you would need to add it as an emulator. I may be wrong there, as it's been quite a while since I've used Zinc. Space Fractal created a utility awhile back called ZincCab which may help to facilitate the inclusion of Zinc as an emulator in GameEx. Classic Arcade Games are already grouped within GameEx to some extent. If you look within your MAME menu there's a section entitled, "Golden Era Of Arcade". that list contains a really good list of classic arcade games. Fighting games on the other hand are a bit tougher to categorize. I mean technically you can already do this if you sort by category within your All Games list, but the trouble is that catver.ini contains so many types of fighting games: Fighter / 2.5DFighter / 2DFighter / 3DFighter / FieldFighter / Misc.Fighter / MultiplayFighter / VersusFighter / Versus Co-opFighter / VerticalTo really customize a fighter list to your liking, you would probably need to create a custom map file using a utility like ROM Lister (here's a guide to get you started). At that point you may need to dedicate an emulator slot to that map file, at which point you could incorporate a dedicated list item into your custom menu structure. Those are my thoughts anyway. If anyone else has an alternate approach I'd love to hear about it. Good luck mviars, and please keep us posted on how this is going for you.
  24. Heh ... I shoulda figured you'd have already taken care of it. Thanks for the clarification Tempest. Well done man!
  25. Hi mantaray, and welcome to the GameEx forums! The IPAC is the aspect of your question that I'm unfamiliar with (what I mean is that I know what it is and what it does, but I have no hands on experience). Having said that, I think there are a couple possible solutions to your problem. I personally address this issue with Xpadder (although any key mapping software could probably do the same thing). I make an Xpadder profile for each emulator, and within the profile I map the exit key combination either to ESC, or to the exit key combination native to the emulator itself. Each Xpadder profile uses the same button combination to exit the associated emulator, but behind the scenes it's able to send different keys dependent upon the profile settings. GameEx will allow you to set a Global Exit key (or combination of keys) via the setup wizard (it's ton the Input Settings screen). Several users have reported success with Global Exit, so that may be just the ticket. [RESOLVED] exit key not working anymore custom config not saving How do I Map a button to escape emulators? The unknown factor for me is how either of the above suggestions will interact with your keyboard encoder (i.e. your IPAC). It may be that using the Global Exit combination via GameEx will be your best option. Thanks mantaray! Please let us know how this is going for you.
