  1. Awesome! Thanks Tom!
  2. Yeah, I think you picked a winner with Fusion. You won't see the static screen when launching games directly. The other great thing about Fusion is that it also emulates a handful of other Sega systems quite well (notably SMS, Sega CD, and Game Gear).
  3. Hmm ... you really shouldn't need any sort of utility program to accomplish this, and GameEx should take focus and topmost Z-Index when loaded. When you have the opportunity would you mind posting your GameEx.ini and your GameEx log after having experienced the focus issue. You can refer to the How to Ask For Help thread for details on how to access that information. Hopefully taking a look at those files will give us a better perspective on what's happening here. A couple of questions in the meantime. Are you running GameEx in a shelled environment? If GameEx isn't taking focus is there another program that seems to be stealing focus?
  4. Someone told me it was 1000. That sounds right.
  5. Dude! I'm glad to hear that! You know MS may take a lot of flack among the elitist neck beard FOSS crowd, but I've typically found their support (as well as their products) to be excellent. What a relief Han!
  6. Just a thought, but this may be a codex issue. Are you guys running any codec packs? Typically Shark007 is what we recommend over in the GameEx forums. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if that did the trick to get videos running in PinballX as well.
  7. Tom, you sly dog! You've been keeping this one under wraps my good man! This looks absolutely awesome! I can't wait to try it out. I'm going on a family trip from 5/22 - 5/27 but I'll have a new toy to play with when I get back. Thanks so much!
  8. The trouble with backup methods is that you only really know how effective they are when you need to run a disaster recovery. It's no secret that I'm a big fan of Open Source software solutions (and preferably when they're free as in beer). To that end I've been very satisfied with Clonezilla. As the name implies this is a full disc cloning utility similar to Norton Ghost. So I bought a USB drive a while back (it's getting a little long in the tooth at this point), but essentially that operates as backup storage for full drive/partition images. I've used these backups as a means of recovery before, but more in the way of, "Let's run a drill to make sure this would actually work." Thankfully I've never had to recover from an actual disaster in this capacity. I've never used it to clone a RAID array, but I'm assuming that such a thing is possible. I'm sure there are fancier more elaborate means of backup but this has always worked for me. Backing up to a RAID array rather than a single disk seems like it would be a good decision (despite all of the many people saying RAID is not backup - hey if it's an additional level of protection why not use it). Likewise backing up offsite would be a great idea (although not really plausible in my case). My mom uses Carbonite on her laptop and swears by it, but personally I would have a hard time convincing myself to cough up the money for a subscription.
  9. You bet man. Glad to hear you got it all sorted out. Well done!
  10. Hi verbosene and Welcome to the GameEx forums! Hmm ... I see what you mean, but in this case the log may not tell the whole story. Take a look at your runitgame.bat (or post it) and see if everything looks OK with that. If it does look OK you can try to run a game from runitgame.bat and see what happens. The How to Ask For Help thread has some really good tips for using runitgame.bat as a troubleshooting measure.
  11. Hmm ... in terms of rescuing files you might be able to use a live Linux distribution (off of a disc or even USB drive if your BIOS will support booting from USB). One thing great about those live Linux distributions is that they could give a fart less about your Windows permissions. It might be worth a shot. If the files on your hard drive are at all addressable, it might just be the ticket. If you're working purely with hard drive operations I like GParted. If that's not your bag, you could go in whole hog with something like Linux Mint (in this case the installation disc doubles as the live distribution). Man - best of luck Han. Here's Hoping you're able to get everything back on track.
  12. I do. Unfortunately enabling the default bezel is an all-or-nothing affair. When it's enabled, the default bezel will take effect for all games. There is currently no way to configure it to behave as the 'fallback' bezel in the event that no other bezel can be found. I believe this has been made as a feature request at some point in time. It certainly wouldn't hurt to make a new feature request to keep the idea fresh.
  13. Hi jonboon and welcome to the GameEx forums! Just out of curiosity, did you install the Default Themes when you installed GameEx? Check out the image in this post to see what I'm talking about. Short of that, what do you see in the following directory (this assumes you installed to the root of C:\ otherwise check your install directory for GameEx)? C:\GameEx\themes\ I troubleshooting doesn't turn up any good leads I'd consider redownloading the installer and running a fresh clean installation of GameEx.
  14. Hi 05woodc and welcome to the GameEx forums! We'll get to your command line question, but first lets cover a few of of the basic steps: Before you even start configuring an emulator in GameEx, you'll want to make sure the emulator is running on its own outside of GameEx. If you can test the emulator outside of GameEx via the command line, that's even better (but not necessarily required) So next you'll open up the Setup Wizard the Setup Wizard and create a new slot for your emulator using the on the Emulator Selection screen. So after adding your emulator you'll want to get it configured on the In the Setup Wizard Emulator Setup screen (as well as the Advanced Emulator Setup screen). So you've completed all of the above, so let's get back around to that command line question. On the Emulator Setup screen you'll see a field called Command Line. For Project64 you would simply enter the above command verbatum. Project64.exe "[ROMPATH]\[ROMFILE]" And assuming you've configured all your paths correctly, that should be all there is to it. I should qualify this to say that I've not yet made the jump to Project64 2.x, but assuming that command is functional that should put you on the right track. So what if it doesn't? Well you can report back right here (or start a new thread). If you need to seek assistance I would suggest that you post your Project64 emulator config, your GameEx log after attempting to run Project64, and your runitgame.bat. Those files will go along way towards helping us to assist you with any troubleshooting any issues you may encounter. The instructions for how to access the troubleshooting files can be found in the How To Ask For Help thread. Thanks woodsy, and good luck!
  15. Ugh ... Sorry to hear about it Han. That really sucks. A couple years ago I ran into a somewhat similar issue with a robocopy command that ran out of control and started overwriting a bunch of system files. What a pain. Sounds like you've got the situation well in hand though, and I'm hoping that you'll work strike upon a good solution. Best of luck man.
  16. The In Game Key is actually a half step towards what you're describing here, but it's important to note that some emulators don't like being "walked over" in this fashion.
  17. Glad to hear that everything is coming up aces Doug. Happy gaming!
  18. Hi helpman In order to set a single controller (or CP) image for all games under a single emulator you would just set the Controls Path on teh Advanced Emulator Setup to point to a single image file. Please note that the Browse ('...') button on this field will not actually let you select an image, only a directory - so you may need to enter the name of your image after having selected the directory. A couple notes. The directory path must be fully qualified, so rather than simply entering default.png, you would need to enter c:\My_Directory\default.png (which assumes that you have an image in that directory called default.png). The directory where you store this can be anywhere you choose and the image itself can be called anything you like. Also bear in mind that this is an all or nothing proposition. If you enter a single controller image as the Controls Path, that image will display for all games. You can't have a few game specific controller images and a fallback default image which displays for everything else. You have to use either all game specific images or a single image that displays for everything. Good luck man.
  19. Hi Necro I use a small SSD as my boot drive and have GameEx installed to that (this one right here actually). The loading and caching take place very quickly, so that's awesome. All my ROMs and artwork (with the exception of Steam artwork) reside on a separate hard drive though so I can't speak as to whether there would be any noticeable speed increase there (that stuff tends to load pretty quickly anyway), I have wondered from time to time if archived ROMs requiring the Zip/7-Zip/GoodMerge/RAR feature in GameEx would get a speed boost during decompression from being located on the SSD (disc images in particular take a while to uncompress), but in my case it's not really an option due to the limited size of the SSD.
  20. In this case the best means of troubleshooting would be your runitgame.bat in combination with your emulator config. Try to run Nestopia from runitgame.bat. If it works that way, then it likely points to a problem in your GameEx configuration. If it still doesn't work via runitgame.bat, then it's more likely a problem with Nestopia (or possibly with GameEx, but in this case if the problem is with GameEx it will be explicitly observable as a command within runitgame.bat.) If your game doesn't work through runitgame.bat, add a pause line to the file and run it again to see if any sort of error information is passed back to the command console. Check the How to Ask For Help thread for details on this.
  21. What!? You want to see the wizard behind the curtain!? Gaze into the crystal ball of our troubleshooting process!? Learn the esoteric means by which we commune with the great spirits of GameEx!? Learn the secret transcendental language by which we converse with the oracle!? Are you sure you're ready for that!? OK sorry. Honestly I'm sure everyone has their own methods of gleaning information form the logs and configs. More than anything it just takes experience in terms of analyzing the problem statement: MAME is showing a lot more games than I actually have and applying knowledge of the system to resolve that: Sounds like it's likely related to the Only Existing ROMs setting on the MAME Settings screen So yeah, I'm pretty sure Tempest nailed it. In this particular instance that would be the first setting I would check in your GameEx.ini
  22. This is a really great idea Tempest! Well done man! But more than any of that, this is the best name I've ever seen for a helper app. In the history of the world. EVAR!!!
  23. You'll definitely want to do your research (especially where motherboard manufacturers use various terminology for the same things), but I'm guessing it should be as easy as turning off turbo boost, and setting your multiplier to 9 in accordance with the calculation above (if it doesn't just default to that already). That should net you 2400Mhz full time clock speed.
  24. nullPointer

    Plex access

Also it uses its own set of codecs independent of other codecs installed on the system. It's certainly a good goto player when nothing else seems to be working.
  25. Glad to hear of your progress Doug! There is a setting in Nestopia to set a fullscreen flag, but I'm away from my emulation rig at the moment. This post should be exceedingly helpful in that regard. Regarding your plethora of MAME games, have you rebuilt your list after applying changes? If you scroll down to the bottom of your MAME menu in GameEx (not your game list, but the menu that lists game categories and the like), you'll see an option to rebuild your list. Give that a whirl and see what happens. If that doesn't work, post up your GameEx.ini and we'll have a look-see. Thanks Doug I see that fReq beat me to the Nestopia thing. Redundant advice isn't necessarily bad advice it just reinforces the concept. Yeah ... that's what I'm going with.
