  1. Dudes, have I got a deal for you. GOG is running a very limited time promotion where you can score Fallout, Fallout 2, and Fallout Tactics for free. They've run a similar promotion in the past, but free is free, and if you haven't played these legendary post apocalyptic RPGs you really should treat yourself. It's a limited time deal though, so better strike while the iron's hot!
  2. Oh dude, I had completely forgotten about how tricky that stupid Cooler Master mounting bracket can be! I seem to remember a few tense "balancing act" moments while trying to secure that bracket down. (having the cooler upside down with the mobo precariously balanced on top while securing the nuts down - the whole time hoping that I wasn't screwing up my application of thermal paste) I'm so glad to hear that your temps are more manageable now. Not as glad to hear that you're socked under with the flu though. Hope you feel better soon man!
  3. That's good news rtkiii! Glad to hear it working now (or at least not crashing).
  4. Hi DoCouto19 and welcome to the GameEx forums! I am in agreement that the ability to use save states is one of the great features of the emulation hobby. As someone who doesn't have as much time for gaming as I used to, I don't have time to repeatedly try the same thing over and over again to grind through levels (I'm looking squarely at you BattleToads ) Thank you save states! Being that I use an HTPC setup I also like to avoid keyboard interaction as much as possible. What I do is use Xpadder to map keyboard macros to controller button combinations (In my particular setup I generally map save state functionality to Start+Select). Essentially this starts to get into some nuts and bolts discussion of Xpadder, you should be able to do the same thing with most controller mapping programs (Pinnacle Game Profiler, the Logitech Gaming Software, and even GameEx has built in controller mapping functionality). My recommendation would be to take a look at the various controller mapping utilities available, and decide which one is right for you. My opinion is that it's a critical piece in your toolbelt of emulation utilities. Bear in mind that there is an excellent Xpadder plugin for GameEx. We also have a few PGP stalwarts and folks using the built in GameEx functionality as well. Once you decide what utility works for you we might be able to provide some further direction should you hit any snags. Good luck man!
  5. Hey man I hadn't taken the opportunity to congratulate you on all of the awesome updates to your plugins recently. You've really had an amazing month! Well done man! Once again I'm in awe of your talent and productivity.
  6. Hey Celly, I believe that DazzleHP has extended an offer of a possible team-up opportunity! Could make for an unbeatable combination!
  7. Hi helpman, I'm guessing that you're running into the same problem reported earlier. Try giving this a whirl: Nice score be77amy. Beats my second spot Entering your initials > see in the lower left side of the screen. When you're game over "continue ?" is counting from 10 til 0. You've to wait till the counter reaches 0. After that you can enter your initials. Updated OP, DB, RSS, LB
  8. Cool Riffman! Looks great!
  9. There's a lot of missing information here. My guess is that your emulator is balking at whatever file is being loaded by GameEx. But what emulator? Are we talking specifically about the pSXFin emulator or "psx" in the generic PlayStation sense? Sside note: it's for this very reason that I've always thought "pSX" was a terrible name for an emulator.) What specific file is causing the issue? Uploading your emulator config and the contents of your runitgame.bat (after having experienced the error) will go along way towards clarifying some of this ambiguity. See here for further details. Thanks man!
  10. Hi rtkiii I'm guessing this is due to differences in environments between your two machines. Are theses systems running the same codecs (or equivalent)? Are they running the same version of DirectX? Are they running the same version of .NET? These situations can be tricky to see where the differences are.
  11. Ditto for me ... but I can't wait to check it out KRC! Something to look forward to.
  12. Uff da! I gotta be completely honest I'm not sure how well that bodes for your installation of Windows. Your registration key is simply a registry entry which should be recognized by Windows and run without issue. (We are talking about the file with the .gxkey extension right?) Short of that give this a whirl Open the Start Menu and type regedit in the Search Programs and Files box Open regedit.exe Within regedit select File > Import ... Navigate to your gxkey file and double-click Hopefully the above should work. Are you using a stock standard installation of Windows or a Streamlined / nLited / other custom version?
  13. Hopefully you have the registration key that Tom sent when you originally registered (check your email). Otherwise you'll need to contact Tom directly.
  14. Glad to hear it worked out for you wrnagy! Ingenuity For The Win! LOL. Sorry for the late response, and of course welcome to the GameEx forums!
  15. This mock-up is looking great rtkiii! I'll be eagerly following the development on this one!
  16. @Adultery and Ben: Thanks for being your normal badass selves! @Tom: Thanks for being King of the Badasses! Great update.
  17. Sweet! I knew that being a paranoid, anti-social, misfit would pay off in big dividends someday! And look at me now, in the good graces of the King! Woo! On second thought ...
  18. So glad to hear that the new drive is working out for you Han! Sounds like it was pretty crazy getting all the files moved over. Yeah that Tempest is a pretty great guy! Sounds like the community owes you a virtual beverage of your choice there Temp!
  19. While I'd absolutely agree with you about some people wanting things handed to them on a platter, I would actually contend that GameEx is the most flexible and user friendly frontend to set up (in my experience at any rate). I've messed around with Maximus Arcade (my first frontend), Mala, and HyperSpin. In my opinion GameEx handily trumps them all in terms of ease of configuration (in large part thanks to the Setup Wizard). To be fair that may be because I know my way around GameEx pretty well at this point, but even as a beginner I don't remember struggling all that much (which admittedly could be seeing the past through rose-tinted glasses, not to mention that by that point I also had some frontend experience under my belt). But to call something like HS "plug and play" I think would be a gross overstatement.
  20. If it weren't Stryker posting this, and I didn't know better I'd probably consider this troll baiting. But since I do know better I'll bite. I honestly fail to see how GameEx is loosing out on anything. All I see is a single comment on Facebook of all places claiming that no one in that particular group uses GameEx. Are we talking about this Facebook group? The one that you need a Facebook account to even view (and thus excludes me from viewing it)? Taken in that context it's a bit underwhelming as proof that GameEx is losing anything. Those that actually bother to use it generally consider it to be one of the best frontends out there (if not the best). Configurability and user-friendliness are second to none. I have seen various posts elsewhere claiming that, "GameEx is more tailored to HTPC setups than for cabinets". I generally consider this to be a lazy and uninformed view being that it tends to indicate that the user didn't spend much time with GameEx (or worse that their judgement is based purely on YouTube). Admittedly the default theme has a more subdued media center appearance to it, but as Draco points out there are a plethora of alternate themes available, not to mention the tools available to get out there and create what you please. Further to the point is the fact that these sort of complaints exist for every frontend under the sun. People complain that, "HS is difficult to configure," or that "HS looks to busy," or that "HS is a loosely cobbled together assemblage of flash animations, AHK scripts, and multitudes of hyper-configuration utilities" (OK that last one is mine ) Does that mean that HS is losing out on something? Not at all! The first two critiques are based on the same sort of uninformed laziness exhibited by those who say, "GameEx is for HTPCs". And as far as the last one goes ... well, I'm sure no one over on the HS forums is loosing sleep over the fact that I'm not among their users. Ultimately I think the course of action here is not to lament that there are users out there uninformed about the greatness of GameEx, but to educate those users on the possibilities of GameEx. I mean we can sit here commiserating or we can do something about it. I say we take action! Join the GameEx street team! The movement starts here and now! OK that last bit was a bit heavy on hyperbole, but the message stands - our discussion of and enthusiasm for GameEx shouldn't strictly be limited to these forums. Spread the word! It starts with you!. (If you need more of this sort of morale boosting I suggest listening to some positive hardcore from the 80s - Gorilla Biscuits is my choice, but you'll have to find your own thang ...)
  21. You can find information on the FTP server right here. Thanks and good luck!
  22. Hot damn dude, I'm coming over to your house for game night! That is a beautiful cabinet, and your game room is the type of thing I can only dream of. Well done man.
  23. Well I'm certainly late to the party on this one! I had a great holiday weekend though. We had a nice turkey feast on Thursday followed by a 3-day weekend of hanging Christmas lights on the eaves (just in time to beat the Winter storm front!) and Christmas candy making. I'm thankful for ... My Wife. Without her I'd be an anti-social, eccentric hermit dividing time between wandering the hills of Montana and playing video games. More than any other living person she has taught me the value of grace and compassion. ... My Kids. It's easy to become jaded in this world of ours. My kids have taught me to occasionally slow down and look at things with a fresh set of eyes. Buddhists would call this Beginners Mind. Hey, sometimes you just have to lie down on the ground and stare at clouds for a while. ... Blessings. I have a job that I (mostly) enjoy. I live in a home that is ample for the needs of my family. I have too much to eat and a dry place to sleep. Money has never been my God. ... Our Community. We have an amazing group of people here, and I can honestly say that I've made friends all over the world through these forums. Let's face it, emulation is an exceedingly niche hobby. Most of the general populace has no idea what an emulator even is. Even within the broad world of gaming there are those that question the value of preserving our past, or even ... gasp ... playing these moldy oldies on a regular basis. I'm so grateful I can come here, kick up my heels, and (virtually) hang out with like minded individuals who get it. Like Adultery said I talk to you guys more than I do any of my IRL friends, and for that I can't thank you enough.
  24. Hi JRock The 2012 Theme competition was a epic event wasn't it! We had a blast doing it, and like you we were thrilled to see the creativity of our GameEx user base shining brightly. It was also a herculean endeavor that involved a lot of coordination with the awesome sponsors of the competition. The overall management of the competition occurred in large part before my time as a moderator, but I'm still in awe of just how well it all came together. Due to the effort involved, I wouldn't count on the theme competition being an annual or even a bi-annual event. The months of preparation time is a lengthy and drawn-out process. I think I'm still recovering from the first one, and I played but a tiny part in the overall running of the competition! Having said that, I certainly wouldn't say that it won't ever happen again. Who knows, future enhancements to the capabilities of GameEx theme creation tools may even enable amazing new ways for users to flex their creative muscle when creating themes. And if that's the case, I can safely assure you that we would postpone any hypothetical discussion of a new competition until such time as new tools are available. No promises though ...
  25. I generally roll with the tried and true; good ol' original Arctic Silver 5. Dollar for dollar and ounce for ounce I feel like it's the best deal going in thermal paste. Obviously you'd want to avoid the bargain basement stuff, but for the most part I feel like the effectiveness of any thermal paste is dictated much more so by the quality and effectiveness of the application than it is by the "secret herbs and spices" they put into the formula. Arctic Silver is somewhat conductive so that is a bit of a concern, but there again in order to actually make contact with any bare connections you'd really have to be globbing it on in the first place. I have heard good things about both Tuniq TX-4 and Arctic Cooling MX-4 though.
